Beast Posted November 6, 2015 Report Share Posted November 6, 2015 Saturday November 5th 1983 MACW TV Airing The show begins with the final minute of The Freebirds' NWA Tag Team Title victory over The Russians from Halloween Havoc, ending with the image of all three Freebirds holding up a title. Bob & David open up the show by announcing both sets of Freebird titles will be on the line today, with Terry Gordy defending his NWA TV Title against former NWA Tag Champion, Nikolai Volkoff and Michael Hayes and Buddy Roberts will be defending their NWA Tag Team Titles in the main event against Hector Guerrero and a partner to be revealed on Rogers' Corner. They also share that the results of the big Flair/Piper vs. Sullivan/Hansen main event will be shown and discussed, but first introduce the opening TV match. Dutch Mantell defeated Billy Two Eagles after a powerslam followed by a running elbow drop. Mantell roughed up Eagles a bit following the match and taunted fans at ringside. Footage of Ric Flair pinning Kevin Sullivan to finally earn a NWA World Heavyweight Title match with Harley Race was played and David Crockett announced that his brother had decided that the match needed to be held on the biggest stage possible. Therefore, on November 24th, Thanksgiving night, in the Greensboro Coliseum, the NWA and Jim Crockett Promotions will be presenting Starrcade: A Flair For The Gold! Flair vs. Race will headline the show, but a number of other NWA promotions will be providing matches as well. The only details revealed so far were that WWC will be providing a match between Carlos Colon and Sgt. Slaughter, WWA will be sending NWA Missouri Champion Nick Bockwinkel to defend his title, and Abdullah The Butcher, Bruiser Brody, and Stan Hansen will be competing. More matches from MACW and the NWA will be revealed each week as this huge event gets closer. David Schultz defeated Tony Zane after a piledriver. The Iron Sheik was on commentary wearing his NWA Iran (United States) title and waving an American flag around in a mocking manner while making disparaging comments. He dropped it on the ground a few times, heavily distracting Schultz, but in the end not impacting the finish of the match. After the match, Schultz hopped out of the ring to confront Sheik, but he was blindsided by an attack by Nikolai Volkoff who nailed him with a Russian Sickle to the back of the head. The two anti-Americans kicked and stomped Schultz until Terry Gordy ran out to make the save. He helped Schultz up and they shook hands to the cheers of the crowd. Scott Casey and The Vachons defeated Rudy Diamond, Bob Bradley, & Steve Estes when Casey pinned Estes after a bulldog. Dutch Mantell accompinied Casey's team to ringside and jawed with the announcers and fans. As the victors celebrated, Mr. Wrestling II made his return and attacked Scott Casey, nailing him with a kneelift that sent him out of the ring. Avoiding a followup attack by the Vachons and Mantell, Wrestling II got on the house mic to challenge Casey to a rematch at Starrcade. Knowing Casey would be hesitant to risk getting in the ring with a man who he only beat thanks to outside interference, Wrestling II offered to put up his mask! Casey (recovering from the kneelift) heartily agreed, but Wrestling II then added it would only be fair for Casey to in turn put up his hair! Casey vigorously shook his head no, but after a group discussion with Dutch Mantell and the Vachons (including Mantell peeking up and over his partners to make sure no one was eavesdropping), Casey finally agreed. Rogers' Corner began with Buddy Rogers welcoming Hector Guerrero to his program. Rogers shared that while he and Harley Race had much to say regarding Halloween Havoc and the upcoming Starrcade, now was not the time. Instead he congratulated Hector Guerrero for defeating his ex-partner Terry Taylor and asked who he had chosen to be his partner for the title shot tonight. To Rogers' surprise, Hector revealed he would not in fact be taking the match and instead had chosen two replacements, his brothers Chavo and Mando! The two Guerreros from WWA came out and all three embraced. Chavo and Mando each took turns building themselves up with Chavo making special mention of how he came close to defeating Harley Race not too long ago. Hector closed by saying "Guerrero" means "warrior" and that the path to representing their namesake starts today and that every champion should be looking over their shoulders since warriors aren't afraid to lie and cheat to come out on top. NWA TV Champion Terry Gordy defeated Nikolai Volkoff with a running legdrop. Strong power match with Gordy getting a clean decisive win in the end. Michael Hayes and Buddy Roberts came out to join their brother Bam Bam for a quick interview. Hayes led the charge, celebrating their tag titles victory. He was surprised at the Guerreros' appearance, but wasn't worried because after spending months trying to win those titles, they weren't about to let them get away. Terry Taylor, Blackjack Mulligan, & The Tonga Kid defeated Tiger Williams and The Devil's Duo when Taylor pinned Sword with a flying forearm. Following the match, Mr. Wrestling II came down to congratulate the victorious trio, especially Tonga Kid. Bob & David ran down the cards for the upcoming shows paying special attention to Sunday in Baltimore being the official "Starrcade Kickoff", with matches including a no DQ match between Hector Guerrero and Terry Taylor, a cage match between David Schultz and Nikolai Volkoff, Terry Gordy defending the TV Title against Dutch Mantell, Ric Flair facing The Iron Sheik in a non-title match, and main event battle royal with a 50,000 dollar prize to the winner. Bob then announced some of the matches for next week's television with Scott Casey facing David Schultz, Dutch Mantell vs. The Tonga Kid, and The Freebirds defending their titles against The Vachons (pending a win today). In addition Ric Flair will be making his first appearance since the announcement of Starrcade and will be in action. MAIN EVENT NWA World Tag Team Titles - The Guerreros (Chavo & Mando) defeated The Freebirds (Hayes & Roberts) when Hector Guerrero interfered, hitting Hayes with a chair to the back, setting up a moonsault from Chavo for the pin. A very fast paced match with the Guerreros attacking with a number of distinctive moves, including a German Suplex by Mando on Roberts for a very close two count. At the same time, they constantly took advantage whenever the referee was distracted, double-teaming Roberts to an extent that even the announcers were shocked. Hayes was practically going crazy on the apron and when Roberts dodged a Mando dropkick and tagging him in, Hayes leveled both Guerrero's with a number of lefts, eventually hitting Chavo with a DDT for a close two broken up by Mando. At the end, all four men were fighting and Hector made his way down to ringside, closely followed by Terry Gordy. He nailed Gordy with a lowblow before he could react, and then nailed Hayes to set up the finish. The show went off the air with the three Guerrero brothers celebrating and rushing to the back with their tag titles held high as Bob & David went bonkers. It is almost the equivalent to the Freebirds coming in to World Class to face the Von Erichs but the opposite with the Guerreros to come into MACW to feud with the Birds. The excitement must be building for Flair/Race but the use of Kevin Sullivan on any card makes it a must watch show. Imagine the Freebirds being the ones who were hit with the chair. This is going to be some feud. I still cringe with the idea of the Iranian Champ. Just so I am clear, in the wrestling business, when a fan cringes it is a great thing! Also love the mask on the line angle with Mr. Wrestling II. Also love that you used more than half your roster on one card. It keeps us up to date on everybody. I've used the old MACW/JCP Saturday night show as kind of a template in that usually the majority of the roster would make an appearance in squashes and a couple name matches. I do less interviews because I have a hard time writing them, but the goal is to keep each program in the spotlight enough for the wrestlers involved to have something to do. Personally I can't wait until 1984 because there are some big things planned, but for now MACW should be ending 1983 with some pretty interesting stuff. Flair/Race, Schultz/Sheik, Freebirds/Russians will all be getting big blowoffs, though not all at the same time, and a few new faces will have major roles to play as the months go on. Beast Posted November 11, 2015 Author Report Share Posted November 11, 2015 Saturday November 12th, 1983 MACW TV Airing The show begins with the final minute of The Guerreros' surprise NWA World Tag Team Title victory over The Freebirds from last week, ending with the image of all three Guerreros celebrating in the aisle. Bob & David open up the show by announcing the spotlight matches for today's show, including The Tonga Kid taking on Dutch Mantell, "Dr. D" David Schultz competing against "Cowboy" Scott Casey, and in the main event, Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts of The Fabulous Freebirds taking on The Vachons. They share that the main event had originally been signed as a title match, but the Guerreros had thrown plans up in the air. Ric Flair will also be in action as well as Buddy Rogers' guest on Rogers' Corner as we move closer to his big title match against Harley Race at Starrcade. Bob Caudle then introduced footage of The Guerreros' celebration following their title victory last week. We cut to Hector, Chavo, & Mando in a locker room backstage spraying champagne and holding the NWA World Tag Team Titles high. Suddenly, Hector stops his brothers and says that champagne isn't the right drink for this situation and he reaches into a locker and grabs a bottle of tequila. He takes a large swig and passes it around as the brothers whoop and holler. Tony Schiavone walks in with a microphone to get their thoughts on their victory. Hector starts off by declaring The Guerreros as "The Greatest Warriors in all of Wrestling" and that he was thrilled he didn't have any dead weight to carry anymore. Chavo took the mic and sarcastically introduced Mando and himself to the MACW audience and surprised Tony by saying they weren't staying in MACW, but were taking the belts back to Chicago to defend in the WWA. Mando added that The Freebirds and The Russians would NOT be getting rematches! Hector took over again to reveal that the Guerreros were descended from the Spanish conquistadors and just like their forefathers, they were all about the gold and for now he was staying in the Carolinas to add to the Guerrero's title collection. Now that the tag belts were in their possession, he was going to get to work on collecting the three biggest singles titles in the NWA: the TV, US (no matter what Iron Sheik calls it), and World Heavyweight Title. Hector looked straight into the camera and turned serious for a second as he challenged Terry Gordy to a match at Starrcade. Either Gordy will be able to redeem his brothers' loss last week or the TV Title will just be another belt on the Guerrero family coat of arms. Dutch Mantell defeated The Tonga Kid with a rollup while holding the tights. The Tonga Kid used his highflying moves and youthful stamina to control the majority of the match, but in the end Mantell was able to make a desperation rollup and eke out the victory. Scott Casey joined Dutch Mantell at the announce desk to congratulate him on beating that "stinkin' south islander" and to promote his upcoming victory over David Schultz later on. Terry Taylor defeated Tiger Williams with the Flying Forearm. Just a basic squash to get Taylor some momentum back after his recent trials with Hector Guerrero. The Russians joined Bob & David at ringside to mock the Freebirds for losing the tag team titles so quickly. Kruschev revealed he wasn't surprised that The Guerreros defeated The Freebirds as whether Russian or Mexican, everyone is better than Americans.Volkoff was asked by Crockett about his own recent losses to David Schultz and he immediately changed the subject to Schultz's own loss of the US Title to The Iron Sheik. Kruschev finished up by saying that no matter what The Guerreros' claimed, The Russians would be getting their title rematch, whether in WWA, MACW, or any other NWA territories. Krusher Kruschev defeated Billy Two Eagles with the Russian Sickle to the back of Eagles' head. A video package played detailing David Schultz's US Title victory over Greg Valentine in July, his subsequent successful defenses against men like Sgt. Slaughter, and finally his defeat last month against The Iron Sheik. The video then switched focus to Scott Casey's run in MACW, picking up numerous victories over Joe Lightfoot, Jay Strongbow, Billy Two Eagles, David Von Erich, The Tonga Kid, and Mr. Wrestling II before losing to Ric Flair. It ended with Casey's acceptance of Wrestling II's hair vs. mask challenge last week. David Schultz defeated Scott Casey with a piledriver following a distraction by Mr. Wrestling II. A very competitive match, the rare one that goes through a commercial break. Schultz had something to prove, but so did Casey so the first half was a pure brawl with both men laying in some fierce punches and kicks. Casey was able to reverse a leap by Schultz into a shoulderbreaker for a quick 2. Schultz came back with a diving clothesline from the 2nd rope, but couldn't get the pin. Things slowed down after the commercial break as both men used some holds, but towards the end Casey's frustration led to him starting to utilize some cheap maneuvers. Schultz was able to match Casey's lowblow with his own devious tactics and soon both men were brawling again. The end came when Casey hit Schultz with his bulldog, only for Schultz to put his foot on the rope. Casey began arguing with the referee which allowed Dutch Mantell (who had been at ringside the entire match, but had not gotten involved as of yet), to grab a chair at ringside. He was cut off by Mr. Wrestling II who ran down to the ring and hit Mantell. As Casey bent out of the ring to strike back, Wrestling II nailed him with a big righthand, knocking him backwards into David Schultz who hit his piledriver for the win. While Casey and Mantell recovered in the ring and on the outside, Schultz made his way over to the announce booth to share some words. First he yelled at Mr. Wrestling II for showing his face where it didn't belong. Schultz didn't need any help and warned Wrestling II to never interfere in one of his matches ever again. Then he brought up The Iron Sheik, challenging him to a rematch. Caudle tried to ask a question, but Schultz cut him off, on a roll. He claimed he hadn't received a legit rematch since losing his belt, so no matter what Sheik said, he was declaring that they would meet one on one at Starrcade for once and for all. Rogers' Corner began with Buddy Rogers building up Starrcade as the biggest show in NWA history as Harley Race will shut down Ric Flair's title aspirations for once and for all. He says the NWA World champion will be here for the official contract signing next week. He then welcomed Ric Flair to the show for one last encounter. Flair came out ready for his upcoming match with Bob Bradley, wearing his robe and tights. He verbally sparred with his older "Nature Boy" counterpart and reminded him that after Starrcade he wouldn't be the champion's representative any longer making his show useless. Rogers refused to believe that Flair had even a chance to beat Race, but admitted that without Race as champion, he may have to reevaluate his opinion of Flair. Flair taunted Rogers some more and then hit the ring for his match. Ric Flair defeated Bob Bradley after making him submit to the Figure-Four Leglock. Bob & David ran down the cards for some upcoming shows including Saturday night in Spartanburg, South Carolina headlined by Ric Flair receiving a title shot at The Iron Shiek and Sunday night in Asheville, North Carolina headlined by a non-title flag match between The Iron Sheik and David Schultz as well as Ric Flair facing his friendly rival in the Freebirds, Michael Hayes. Bob then reiterated the announced card for Starrcade (on Thanksgiving, November 24th), thus far with the confirmation of Nick Bockwinkel's NWA Missouri title defense and a new match from Memphis. NWA World Heavyweight Title - Harley Race vs. Ric Flair NWA Missouri Title - Nick Bockwinkel vs. Bruiser Brody NWA Mid-American Title - Butch Reed vs. Austin Idol NWA Iran (United States) Title - The Iron Sheik vs. David Schultz 6-Man Tag - The Fabulous Freebirds vs. The Russians Stan Hansen vs. Abdullah The Butcher Hair vs. Mask - Scott Casey vs. Mr. Wrestling II and just signed, a rematch between Dutch Mantell and The Tonga Kid With that, The Freebirds make their way out to say their piece before their main event match with The Vachons. Hayes begins for congratulating Hector Guerrero and his brothers for taking the titles last week. He knows that The Freebirds can fight as dirty as anyone and next time they will be prepared. He and Buddy Roberts want a rematch, even if it takes a month or two for "The Warriors" to grow some cojones and man up. Terry Gordy takes the spotlight to respond to Hector Guerrero's challenge from last week. He knows that he and his brothers are signed to take on The Russians at Starrcade, but as much as he wants to "paint the ring red with those commies" he can't turn down a fight, especially one so attractive. He takes himself out of the 6-man and instead accepts Guerrero's TV Title challenge. Hayes and Roberts are totally OK with this and promise The Russians there will be a third man on their team at Starrcade. MAIN EVENT The Vachons defeated The Freebirds (Hayes & Roberts) by countout after The Freebirds ran after The Russians. Another smash mouth match with Mad Dog Vachon and Buddy Roberts going at it hard, trading blow after blow. Roberts eventually got double-teamed and was unable to tag out for a long period. He finally ducked under a Butcher Vachon clothesline and was able to tag Michael Hayes in. Hayes levelled the French Canadien brothers with lefts, before tumbling over the top with Butcher on a crossbody. Roberts stayed in the ring and hit Mad Dog with a DDT. While this was going on, The Russians (Volkoff, Kruschev, & Markoff) made their way down to ringside and jumped Terry Gordy from behind. Then they grabbed The Freebirds' ring jackets and presented a can of red paint from under the ring. They quickly poured the paint all over the jackets and then when Gordy tried to fend them off, threw red paint in his face. Roberts jumped out of the ring and he and Hayes chased The Russians to the back, allowing Mad Dog Vachon to get the countout victory for his team. Back from break, Hayes and Roberts were back at ringside helping Terry Gordy recover from the Russian attack. Bob Caudle thanked the fans for watching and announced next week's major matches, the last TV before Starrcade. Scott Casey and Dutch Mantell will take on Mr. Wrestling II and The Tonga Kid, The Iron Sheik will defend his belt against the legendary Chief Jay Strongbow, and both the Russians and Freebirds will be in six-man action!
