Dylan Waco
In here I will write a LOT about Southern Indie wrestling. Would love for others to chime in. First order of business is to note that this years Scenic City Invitational has been set for the first weekend in August and the slow release of names has begun. Though not officially announced a "hint" last week revealed that Lio Rush will be in the tournament, and Jimmy Rave is returning again to see if he can be a repeat winner. More names will be released in the coming weeks, but the promoters have promised to announce the next entrant when the Facebook match gets 730 likes. As of this writing that means it needs 9 likes to get over the hump and make it happen. https://www.facebook.com/ScenicCityInvitational/ I'll be back with a massive post or two in the next couple of days covering AWE or Empire or PWX or Peachstate or something. soup23
Peachstates' card on Saturday looks pretty stacked. I unfortunately wont be able to go (damn you Papa Campbell for having a birthday on this day) but the tournament has been booked really well even though from the outside looking in, it looks like we are on a collision course for another Rave vs. Tyson Dean match. The undercard also has some exciting stuff with a five way with P-Dog, Matthews and C.B. Suave and Sal Rinauro vs. Kevin Blue. I really hope I can make it out on May 21st when the tournament concludes.
Luchaundead
We will be reviewing PWX Rise of a Champion on the next episode of This Week In Wrestling and I have some thoughts especially on Hero v Cedric
Troy
Much needed thread. I was at Why We Wrestle's Hardcore Hell in March. Tremendous show. Thought about going back in July but I've made the decision to make the trip to Ooltewah for SCI.
Dylan Waco
That Peachstate tourney has gotten pretty good reviews too Soup. I wish they would release it as one single DVD, but I'm sure they won't. I was hoping they were building to Rave v. Sal, but Rave v. Dean is hard to complain about given how great their series of matches last year was. If I remember correctly you were at the 30 minute draw right? Great match and probably my favorite of the series in some ways, though the Iron Man is almost shockingly good all things considered. Really want to make it out to a Why We Wrestle show Troy. Heard really good things about Hardcore Hell by a few people who went, and I'm cheering for WWW to succeed in the Church (for those who don't know, WWW is running in the same building that Wildside and Anarchy ran in). For those who went a glimpse of that show I believe the Anthony Henry v. David Young match is still up on YouTube, and it's a match I enjoyed quite a bit. Glad you are hitting the SCI Troy. Hoping a few people from the board will be making it out.

I still haven't seen the Iron Man match but the 30 minute draw was probably the single best indy match I saw last year including the February and August ROH shows. shoe
If people haven't seen the PWX Rise of a Champion show. Timothy and I reviewed it on TWIW. It's a really fun show. It has a bit of everything for everyone.

WhooWrestling
The Scenic City Invitational has just announced tickets will be available for purchase online this Wednesday, June 1st, at 5pm (Eastern). In addition, they will announce the name of the 9th entrant 15 minutes prior to that. While I don't anticipate a PWG-level flurry of activity, I would say if you're looking at buying front-row tickets, you should consider purchasing them as soon as possible. Like and follow for the deets: https://www.facebook.com/ScenicCityInvitational/

Woof
Curious if anybody follows CWF-Mid Atlantic regularly with their YouTube show. They've really hit a groove over the last couple of months with Trevor Lee as champion. I'm not necessarily partial to long-form matches, but he's had a couple of great one recently (Lee vs Jesse Adler was a really great "make a young guy" match) and the Lee-Cedric Alexander match from a couple episodes back was a tremendous deal. Felt like a legit MOTY candidate to me, with some fantastic crowd interaction in the first half and then some snug work in the body of the match. Very well structred too. Seriously just a total breeze to sit through and makes me wonder just what the hell ROH doesn't see in Alexander that causes them to misuse him so. I was lukewarm to Lee based on the limited Evolve and PWG stuff I saw from him, but he's really turned me around in CWF-MA. I love the old-school studio feel of their show and how they keep the wrestling more grounded without all the super-indy flash.
Dylan Waco
Scenic City Invitational just announced Matt Riddle as the ninth entrant. Field is INSANELY awesome so far - Jimmy Rave, Lio Rush, Kyle Matthews, Ray Fury, Gunner Miller, Corey Hollis, John Skyler, Anthony Henry, and Riddle. If the final 7 are half as good I'd say the tourney is on pace to fairly easily top last year and I loved last years shows. Tickets are available here. If you are on the fence the promoters are pushing the 16th entrant as another "game changer." Would love to see some people from PWO make it out to these shows. http://www.empirewrestling.net/store/c2/Scenic_City_Invitational_Event_Tickets.html
AstroBoy
Really looking forward to checking out the Scenic City Invitational this year. So. . . any guesses on who the final entrant is going to be? I really have no idea but I'm intrigued.
Dylan Waco
I don't know who the last entrant is, or who any of the remaining entrants are. My feeling is that there will probably be at least a couple more local guys and that the only major name left in the field will be the 16th entrant, but really anything is possible at this point. I don't think very many people would have seen them getting Riddle for this thing and the way they are talking and have positioned the announcements he is actually the second biggest name in the tournament after number 16. The only real hint I have about the 16th guy - and I got this from one of the promoters who is a friend and knows a lot about my tastes and specific guys who I do and don't enjoy - is that it's someone he is positive I will be happy to see in the tournament. Of the ten guys announced so far none is worse than good in my opinion, and most of them are guys who I legitimately think are in the very good to great territory. WhooWrestling
Since the Scenic City Invitational's announcement of Matt Riddle, the following have also been announced: Billy Buck, Odinson and Mikael Judas. Two long-time guys from Anarchy in Cornelia and an up-and-coming hoss in Odinson. With Lio Rush, Odinson, Matt Riddle and Gunner Miller, that's four incredibly talented "youngsters" (in wrestling experience if not in age; all have between 1 and 3 years in). Four more names to be announced, including two returnees from last year's tournament and one more "outside name" that should make people happy. Cap
As an aside, I am moving from Utah to North Carolina next month and I am SSSSOOOOOOOOO excited about being much closer to so much good indy wrestling again. My wife... not as excited about that part.

My wife... not as excited about that part. CWF and PWX are no worse than top 5 indies in the U.S. right now in my opinion. Great companies for different reasons. CWF was mentioned above and I think if you factor in everything - production, announcing, quality short term and long term storylines, talent and guys filling their respective roles, venue/environment - they might be the best promotion in the World right now. I just think they do a better job executing their vision better than anyone else. PWX is awesome in a different way but well worth checking out. Where are you moving to in NC? Laney
CWF shows are a 2 hour drive from where I live, and it is well worth the trip every time I've gone. I highly recommend going to a show if you are within driving distance. I love the atmosphere with the crowd. It is mostly regulars that sit in the same seat every show, boo the heels, cheer the faces, and always call the wrestler's by their first name when they cheer. The Absolute Justice show last night was fantastic. Andrew Everett vs Trevor Lee is worth checking out once it hits Worldwide in about 3 weeks. AstroBoy
Scenic City Invitational was completely awesome. As a two-day event it might be my show of the year. At least five matches were at the very good to great level with a couple others slightly behind. And outside of one misfire, there was nothing less than solid the whole weekend. Everybody should check it out when it's available. And apparently the Jimmy Rave vs. John Skyler first round match is going up for free tomorrow as a teaser. goc
Finally jumped on the CWF Mid-Atlantic bandwagon after someone got me to watch the Trevor Lee vs. Rob McBride match that I thought was really good. Watched the first part of Battlecade this morning and really enjoyed that as well. Looking forward to part 2 going up on Wednesday night. Very good commentary, a good lively crowd (non-smarky/chant happy) and some of the best production values I've seen in indie wrestling quite possible THE best. Like I have no idea how or why CWF Mid-Atlantic has better production values for it's youtube show than ROH did for a long time after it first started on Sinclair Broadcasting (although it looks like they've finally gotten a lot better in the regard now)
