FMW Grand Slam, Night 8

September 23, 1995

in Nakamura, Kochi, Japan

Nakamura Sports Center

FMW Grand Slam Brass Knuckles Championship Round Robin Tournament:

Masato Tanaka [8]

vs.

Jinsei Shinzaki [2]

Shinzaki already defeated Hayabusa, so was confident coming into this contest. These two battled with Tanaka almost gaining the win with a Fire Thunder Bomb and a Roaring Elbow, but both times Shinzaki's leg was close enough to the ropes to break the count. Tanaka and Shinzaki battled on the top turnbuckle which ended with Tanaka hitting a superplex, but Shinzaki hooked the leg for the surprise win.

Koji Nakagawa & Daisuke Ikeda
vs.
Damian 666 & W*ING Kanemaru

Nakagawa made Damian submit to the Sharpshooter in a match featured a variety of styles of wrestling.

La Parka
vs.
Horace Boulder

Unlike previous Parka matches this was more brawling. Parka picks up the win with a moonsault onto a chair.

Hisakatsu Oya, Ricky Fuji, Hanzo Nakajima, & Katsutoshi Niiyama
vs.

The Headhunters, Yuji Yasaroaka, & Mitsuharu Matsunaga

A crazy brawl mixed in with some great high flying by Nakajima and Yasaroaka. Matsunaga got the pin with a piledriver on Fuji, after both Headhunters gave him moonsaults.

Megumi Kudo, Combat Toyoda, & Chigusa Nagayo
vs.
Monster Ripper, Shark Tsuchiya, & Crusher Maedomori

A fun and action packed match that saw Ripper pin Kudo, after Nagayo accidentally lariated Kudo.

FMW Grand Slam Brass Knuckles Championship Round Robin Tournament:

Terry Funk [6]

vs.

Big Boss Man [4]

Terry Funk was with Super Leather again, but this time Boss Man brought Hayabusa with him. Hayabusa was limping around, but managed to stop Super Leather from interfering. This lead to Boss Man and Terry Funk having an intense contest in the ring without interference and weapons, as neither wanted to go to ringside and get ambushed. The finish came when Super Leather tried to hand Funk a branding iron, but Hayabusa chased him around the ring. Leather dived into the ring to get out of the way and was hit with a Boss Man Slam. With Boss Man distracted, Funk nailed him with the branding iron and then hit a Piledriver for the win.

FMW Grand Slam Brass Knuckles Championship Round Robin Tournament:

Sabu [6]

vs.

The Gladiator [8]

These two men killed each other in this match, breaking 11 tables in total with numerous Sabu dives and Awesome Bombs and Splashes. The finish came when Sabu went for a Super Frankensteiner, but Gladiator countered it into a Super Awesome Bomb onto a pile of chairs in the middle of the ring. With this victory, Gladiator has earned himself a spot in the finals.

Current Grand Slam Round Robin Standings:

1. The Gladiator [10]
2. Hayabusa [8]
2. Masato Tanaka [8]
2. Terry Funk [8]
5. Sabu [6]
6. Big Boss Man [4]
6. Jinsei Shinzaki [4]
8. Mr. Gannosuke [0]
The final four matches of the Grand Slam Tournament, scheduled for 9/24, are:
Sabu [6] vs. Haybusa [8]
Mr. Gannosuke [0] vs. Jinsei Shinzaki [4]
Terry Funk [8] vs. Masato Tanaka [8]
The Gladiator [10] vs. Big Boss Man [4]
The Gladiator is in the finals and at this point he could be facing Sabu, Hayabusa, Terry Funk, or Masato Tanaka. If there are more than two people tied for the most points, a mini one night tournament will take place.

FMW Grand Slam, Night 9

September 24, 1995

in Tokyo, Japan

Hachioji Civic Hall

FMW Grand Slam Brass Knuckles Championship Round Robin Tournament:

Mr. Gannosuke [0]

vs.

Jinsei Shinzaki [4]

Gannosuke was a man obsessed and went on full offense, however his agressive style lead to mistakes and Shinzaki gaining the victory with an inside cradle. After the match Gannosuke snapped in the ring.

FMW Grand Slam Brass Knuckles Championship Round Robin Tournament:

The Gladiator [10]

vs.

Big Boss Man [4]

The Gladiator was very confident, since he is already into the finals of the tournament. Early on Boss Man caught him a Boss Man slam. Gladiator rolled to the outside and walked away getting a count out loss.

La Parka

vs.

Hanzo Nakajima

Parks picks up the win in an exciting bout.

Combat Toyoda

vs.

Miwa Sato

Combat demolished Sato, sending a message to Kudo that she wants the belt!

Hisakatsu Oya, Ricky Fuji, Katsutoshi Niiyama, & Yuji Yasaroaka

vs.

The Headhunters, Horace Boulder, & Damian 666

This was just a fast paced everybody get stuff in to get people hyped for the end of the tournament. Headhunters pinned Fuji to win the match.

FMW Grand Slam Brass Knuckles Championship Round Robin Tournament:

Sabu [6]

vs.

Haybusa [8]

If Hayabusa wins he is in the finals versus The Gladiator, if he loses he will not be. Of course Hayabusa came into this with his bum knee from the tournament and Sabu came into this with generally being injured like normal. This was a risk heavy match with both man crashing and burning while attempting high spots. Hayabusa was able to hit the Firebird Splash, but Sabu was too close to the ropes and broke up the pin. Super Leather, Terry Funk's friend, came to ringside. Funk has feuded with Sabu and is still mad about Hayabusa's win over him, so the crowd was unsure of what would happen. The referee was distracted, when Terry Funk came from under the ring and nailed both men with a flaming branding iron knocking them out. The referee counted both men out, for a double knock out and a draw. This means the only way Hayabusa will be in the finals is if Tanaka and Funk battle to a draw.

FMW Grand Slam Brass Knuckles Championship Round Robin Tournament:

Terry Funk [8]

vs.

Masato Tanaka [8]

Terry Funk was a crazed man trying to get into the finals for this match, using every weapon he could. Tanaka was valiant and never gave up and kept coming back. Both men were bloody. The finish saw Funk put on the Spinning Toe Hold. Tanaka was able to wrap his forearm in barbed-wire and nail Funk with an elbow. As Funk staggered off, Tanaka got up and hitting the Roaring Elbow which was wrapped in barbed-wire for the victory.

Final Grand Slam Round Robin Standings:

1. The Gladiator [10]

1. Masato Tanaka [10]

3. Hayabusa [9]

4. Terry Funk [8]

5. Sabu [7]

7. Big Boss Man [6]

7. Jinsei Shinzaki [6]

8. Mr. Gannosuke [0]

This sets the stages for the closing show of the tour on September 26th at the Korakeun Hall, shown on tape delay. Also on a future commercial tape, entitled "FMW Grand Slam"!

This show will be loaded with the following!

The finals of the Grand Slam Tournament with the winner becoming the FMW World Brass Knuckles Heavyweight Champion will see Masato Tanaka battle The Gladiator!

Good friends will square off for the FMW Independent Women's & WWA Women's Championship as Megumi Kudo defends against Combat Toyoda. Toyoda will retire in May 1996 and wants to go out as Champion, she gets her shot here!

The WWF Women's Champion Monster Ripper will defend her belt against AJW legend Chigusa Nagayo!

The FMW World Brass Knuckles Tag Team Champions of Ricky Fuji & Hisakatsu Oya have battled The Headhunters all over this tour. They will square off one more time in a "Barbed Wired Boards Death Match" with the titles on the line!

After tonight's show, FMW announced some brand new match ups!

Terry Funk will team with Super Leather to take on Hayabusa and the Big Boss Man! Funk and Leather have been a thorn in both of their sides the entire Grand Slam Tournament. Boss Man is not happy with having a cheater and a serial killer in the promotion and will try to carry Hayabusa, who is working on one leg. This should be a war!

There is a lot of styles in professional wrestling and in an "All-Styles Match" many of them will be on display as: Daisuke Ikeda (shoot style), La Parka (lucha libre), and Sabu (Sabu style) take on W*ING Kanemaru (Strong Style), Hanzo Nakajima (Lucharesu), & Mitsuharu Matsunaga (Death Style)!

Koji Nakagawa did not take too kindly to Mr. Gannosuke throwing a fit after losing in the Grand Slam, since he wasn't even in the tournament. A challenge was issued and accepted!

The two premier tag teams in FMW's joshi division will battle as Shark & Crusher battle Takako Inoue & Mayumi Ozaki!

Finally, on the pre-show the team of Jinsei Shinzaki & Yuji Yasuraoka will face Horace Boulder & Katsutoshi Niiyama.

Welcome to the THUNDER FIRE BOMB REVIEW #14

@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!

Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (9/26/95)

(by Phil Dean)

This show features the finals of the Grand Slam Tournament, FMW's garbage version of the Champions Carnvial. It was also the first big show under the new management, so let's see if they live up to the standards of Onita's FMW.

Shark Tsuchiya/Crusher Maedomori vs. Maymi Ozaki/Takako Inoue

Ozaki and Inoue brought their slick joshi skills, while Shark and Crusher are more just untrained brutes throwing punches and using plunder. Shark cheated using some weapons to bloody up Ozaki which lead to a really fun face in peril sequence. Inoue was a great house of fire on the hot tag and Ozaki & Inoue hit a double dropkick for the win. A fun opener

Koji Nakagawa vs. Mr. Gannosuke

The story in this one is that Gannosuke lost every match in the tournament and when he was throwing fits after losing, Nakagawa called him out (since he wasn't even in the tournament). Gannosuke was really aggressive here and hit all of his offense, but he just couldn't keep Nakagawa down. Nakagawa was in full Bret Hart mood selling all match, and then coming back to win with a Victory Roll. After the match Gannosuke left the promotion, saying he was too embarrassed to ever show his face again.

Sabu/La Parka/Daisuke Ikdea vs. Mitsuharu Matsunaga/Hanzo Nakajima/W*ING Kanemaru

Billed as an "all-styles" match as FMW keeps trying to push the narrative that "Death Style" is the best wrestling style. It's certainly the most fun, outside of lucha. Hey there is a luchador here in La Parka. Parka is awesome and was getting really over in AAA before coming to FMW. He's still awesome here and the crowd was into his dancing. Every style here did their own thing, including Ikeda being awesome at shoot style. They really need to push him more. After everybody shined, of course the "Death Style" worker in Matsunaga gets the win, after busting a light tube over the head of La Parka. Sabu looked pretty beat up from the tournament, so didn't get to be the star he usually is.

Monster Ripper vs. Chigusa Nagayo (WWF Women's Title)

Yeah it's Bertha Faye in FMW defending the WWF Women's Title against AJW legend Nagayo. This just had a really werid feel to it, due to who was involved and what was on the line. Faye dominated early, but Nagayo got a comeback and a quick victory. This was about 6 minutes in total, just there to make sure the FMW fans know how great she is.

Ricky Fuji/Hisakatsu Oya vs. The Headhunters (Barbed Wire Board Death Match for the FMW World Brass Knuckles Tag Team Titles)

This is what FMW is all about, blood and guts. Everybody bleed, everybody brawled and had great punches. This is garbage wrestling at it's finest. Fuji tried his best to be Ricky Morton, but he's not Ricky Morton. Although he can certainly bleed. Headhunters lost when A missed a moonsault and landed on the barbed wire board.

Megumi Kudo vs. Combat Toyoda (FMW & WWA Women's Title)

Toyoda is set to retire in May and it's her quest to retire as champion. To do that she needs to defeat her best friend and tag partner. This is perfect story telling and this was quite the match. They both tried to be friendly and fight fair, however each time Kudo kicked out Combat got a little more rough. After several nearfalls both way, Combat had her power bomb countered with a frankensteiner and lost. They shook hands, but Combat side eyed her.

Terry Funk/Super Leather vs. Hayabusa/Big Boss Man

Terry Funk and Super Leather both came out wearing matching outfits and carrying matching chainsaws. Funk got on the mic and told everybody Terry Funk couldn't make it tonight, but Chainsaw Charlie was here. He then told Hayabusa if his team won, he wanted a mask vs mask match. Funk was just wearing pantyhouse on his head, not really a mask, so this was even more hilarious. Boss Man came to the ring and had to help Hayabusa at times, due to his injured leg in the tournament. These four brawled everywhere with Funk and Leather trying to corner Hayabusa and take him out, leaving Boss Man alone. They succeeded but Boss Man had his night stick to help him out. Everyone bleeded and this was wild. After using every weapon they could Boss Man hit the Boss Man slam on Super Leather and Hayabusa hit a Firebird Special for the win. Afterwards Jason the Terrible jumped the ring and helped Leather and Funk destroy Boss Man and Hayabusa. Both men had to go out on stretchers as "Chainsaw Charlie", Super Leather and Jason the Terrible celebrated in the ring. What an evil alliance this is!

The Gladiator vs. Masato Tanaka (Grand Slam Finals, FMW World Brass Knuckles Title Decision Match)

These two might be tailor made for each other. Awesome can look like a monster throwing around the smaller Tanaka, but Tanaka looks tough as shit taking the huge power bombs and chair shots. The more insane thing was Tanaka giving a tornado DDT onto about 20 chairs in the ring. This kept a great pace and only topped at about 16 minutes, but that was just about perfect. The finish saw Awesome hit a power bomb off the apron through a table at ringside. Since both were exhausted it took a while before Awesome rolled Tanaka into the ring. Once in the ring Awesome picked up Tanaka for one more Awesome Bomb, but he was rolled up with an inside cradle. Tanaka is your FMW champion, which is kind of a shocker with all the talent in this tournament, but if he will perform like this, who cares?

Awesome write up of the show and I can 'feel' the old school DVDVR review voice. You just need 'Dean Phil' calling The Gladiator the next Stan Hansen or something else crazy like that to finish things off. As for Battle Bowl, I like Hayabusa vs. Funk as the big match so you can give Gladiator an 'easier' 1st defense for now.

FMW Lethal Lottery

October 16, 1995

in Kumamoto, Kumamoto, Japan

Honda Civic Center

Lethal Lottery:

Hisakatsu Oya & Koji Nakagawa

vs.

W*ING Kanemaru & Super Leather

The brawling team here showed good chemistry and picked up the win when Leather pinned Oya. Leather demanded a title shot for him and Jason the Terrible after the match. Kanemaru was pissed and believes he deserves a title shot for getting a win over Oya.

Lethal Lottery:

Jason the Terrible & Ricky Fuji

vs.

Hayabusa & Katsutoshi Niiyama

Hayabusa carried Niiyama to the win here, picking up a pin on Fuji with the Fire Thunder Bomb.

Lethal Lottery:

Big Boss Man & Mitsuharu Matsunaga

vs.

Chainsaw Charlie & La Parka

In the bloodiest brawl of the show, these two teams parted into a Charlie-Boss Man and a Parka-Matsunaga brawl. All four bleed as they went all over the arena. Just as Boss Man hit the Slam, Jason the Terrible and Super Leather came out of nowhere and helped lay him out leading to Charlie pinning him.

Lethal Lottery:

Hanzo Nakajima & Masayoshi Motegi

vs.

Jinsei Shinzaki & Horace Boulder

The juniors versus the heavyweights here. Although Shinzaki kept up with the juniors in the flying department, this match went to the Goliaths when Shinzaki hit the Praying Power Bomb on Motegi.

Lethal Lottery:

Masato Tanaka & Maxx Payne

vs.

Sabu & Daisuke Ikeda

FMW talks about having all styles compete and this was truly an "All-Styles Match". Early on Payne and Ikeda tried to mat wrestle, but when Sabu and Tanaka got involved this became a crazy brawl. Ikeda did a great job of working over Tanaka's leg which lead to Sabu pinning Tanaka after a Triple Jump Moonsault.

Bring Your Own Weapon's Battle Bowl

Featuring:

Super Leather with a chainsaw

W*ING Kanemaru with a 2x4

Hayabusa with numchucks

Katsutoshi Niiyama with a kendo stick

Chainsaw Charlie with a chainsaw

La Parka with a chair

Jinsei Shinzaki with a bed of nails

Horace Boulder with a barbed-wire baseball bat

Sabu with a table

Daisuke Ikeda with his own fists

A wild out of control brawl that went all over the arena. Eliminations were by pinfall with falls counting anywhere. Chainsaw Charlie and Super Leather teamed up and took out Hayabusa early. The final four came down to Charlie, Leather, Sabu, and Jinsei Shinzaki. Sabu and Shinzaki teamed up and were able to tie Charlie up onto the barbed-wire board and then put Leather through the table. Charlie nailed Sabu in the arm with the chainsaw and pinned him, while Shinzaki came from behind and rolled up Charlie for the win.

Annoucements:

Jinsei Shinzaki earned a title shot against Masato Tanaka on October 28th at Korakuen Hall.

Also signed for October 28th is Chainsaw Charlie, Super Leather, and Jason the Terrible taking on Big Boss Man, Hayabusa, and a mystery partner in a Barbed-Wire Explosion Death Match.

The third announced match for October 28th is W*ING Kanemaru and a partner of his choice getting a tag title shot.

On October 26th Jason the Terrible and Super Leather get a tag title shot as well.
