soup23
I have had enough of Chavo but we do get a look at Kid Romeo here. Romeo has a big time 2000 gimmick with the rave thing he is doing. Chain wrestling to start here was actually pretty impressive. Chavo’s strikes look better today too. An awkward moment does occur when he tries to place Romeo on the ropes. After being worked over for a bit, Romeo makes his comeback with a good looking splash. A leg drop gets another two. Sloppy counter from Romeo from a neckbreaker attempt. Chavo hits the tornado DDT and puts him away. Romeo looked out of position here a good bit and while the dive did get good air, if that is your one moment of flash in a match, something better and more impressive may be expected. *1/
Loss
Kid Romeo is pretty green here. Mike Tenay volunteering WCW to send talent to New Japan's juniors tournament and namedropping Otani is the type of thing that would cause Vince McMahon to faint. Other than the opening chain wrestling and the dive, not much to this, and there's little I hate more in terms of gimmicks than Chavo selling Amway. But like Scott Hudson said, at least Oklahoma isn't cruiserweight champ, right?
Tim Evans
Chavo selling Amway was such a Russo gimmick but he did try his best with it. This match was a decent vet vs rookie match. Romeo I thought would go far but it just wasn't meant to be. Chavo looked pissed a couple times with Romeo being out of position. My jaw dropped at Tenay name dropping Otani. Wasn't expecting that. GSR
Chavo is doing the salesman gimmick and he has some hairspray for Charles Robinson. A series of waistlock reversals and Romeo rolls through for the ankle lock which Chavo can only break by grabbing the ropes. Chavo with a suplex that Romeo doesnt go up right for so he ends up sitting him on the top turnbuckle. He then proceeds to slip off and Chavo gives him a standing dropkick in the corner. Belly to back suplex by Chavo for a two. Romeo then block a belly to back off the top with some elbows and comes off with a high crossbody for a two of his own. Chavo has Romeo in a firemans carry and Kid was supposed to reverse it into something (possibly a neckbreaker). But he makes a hash of things in a horrible looking spot. Chavo has had enough and hits the tornado DDT for the win. Not the most auspicious of starts for Kid Romeo with this following on from the Tommy Rogers match. Youve got Scott Hudson and Mike Tenay singing the praises of Paul Orndorff and the Power Plant, and then youve a nondescript performance from Romeo with a couple of blown spots, one especially that looks down right awful. Chavo tries but Romeo was disappointing.
