Mad Dog
HARDCORE HOLLY SERIOUS INJURY UPDATE by Dave Scherer @ 7:06:00 PM on 4/23/2006 Thanks to Gabe Smith for sending this along, which is more information on a story we had posted earlier here on PWInsider.com. I wish Bob the best through this very trying time. From the Hardcore Holly Message board: Here's the latest on Bob's situation... --- The staph infection he got in the ring around August of last year turned into MSRA , they thought they had cured it, but when he had surgery on his right elbow in February it came back full force landing him back in the hospital in March. Everything seemed to be going ok until around the 7th or 8th of April when he came down with what we thought was a bad case of the flu (fever, chills, and then his arm began to swell). We went back to the doctor and he was admitted directly to the hospital that night and emergency surgery was scheduled the next morning. We stayed in the hospital until they put a PIC line in and got the results of the cultures back from surgery showing it was indeed still the MSRA which had gotten into his blood and also embedded his elbow joint. Unfortunately the only antibiotic that will probably get rid of it once and for all has to be administered by IV once every 12 hours for about the next 6 weeks. He has been on and off antibiotics since September of last year fighting this infection when he first got it, which really created a super strain infection resistant to everything they have given him. Now we are fighting along with that damage to other organs probably caused from such strong meds. They are monitoring him closely here at home, taking blood every other day now, delivering the medication to us daily, and at least trying to let him be here instead of at the hospital. The results on Friday were a little scary and they started him on an additional medication because his platelet level and potassium level were very high. Hopefully things will start to turn around and they will get this all out of his system without any long term damage to his kidneys. --- We encourage all Bob Holly fans to support Bob in this tough time! Any cards or anything from fans to cheer him up would be great! He is so ready to be back in the ring and all of this is very disheartening. He is a fighter and wants to be back to the ring and like I said we encourage you to drop Bob a note. The website (www.bobhollyacademy.com) has the address! Thanks everyone! Gabe added this. Being an EMT I wanted to give a little insight on the MSRA virus. This is a virus that is usually found in hospitals (scary thought) and can be VERY deadly. About 10% of people who get MSRA will die of complications from the infections that it can cause. This is not just a case of a wrestling being a little sick. This can possibly end an athlete's career. Just to give an idea of how bad that this situation MAY be. If y'all are praying people, send one out for him. http://pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=17635&p=

Mad Dog
Yes because we all want him to die because he roughed up a couple of guys here and there. Grow up.
Marty
I'm with Mad Dog. This isn't like HHH or Kevin Nash tearing his quad. This is a guy fighting for his life here. Am I a Bob Holly fan? Fuck, no. But wishing death on the guy is fucking childish, guys.
Guest Bruiser Chong
Who said anything about wanting him to die? I'm not gonna start praying and crying out, "Oh noes, not Bobby Holly, please god, no!" Him being ill still doesn't erase all accounts that he's a miserable shit of a person. Do I want him to die? Of course not. But let's not start sending out prayers and all that, as if any of us actually cared about him before this news broke.
Loss
Not to make light of this, as obviously, no one wants to wish him death, but I don't look forward to the photoshopped banners on message boards if it turns fatal.
Mad Dog
I always cringe at the messageboard banners.
Guest Cam Chaos
I'm backing Bruiser. Do I want him to die? No. Do I still think karma's a bitch? Yes. You beat up green dudes and stomp on their heads shit will come back round. He's not been a saint and hopefully this time will make him appreciate things more. I ain't wishing ill on him, don't get me wrong, but shit, you get what you give. If he does pull through hopefully he'll stick to training rather than stiffing people or stomping on them. Agreed fully. If Bob wasn't a notorious asshole, I'd have more sympathy for him. That being said, I hope that they get this under control and that it doesn't seriously fuck him up. Marty
I hope Bob recovers fully and that the experience will be an eye opening "life is too short to be an asshole" lesson. I like your take the best, Sek. I apologize to both Cam and Bruiser. Wrong of me to say that you both hope he does or something along those lines. The one thing, though, that still does upset me is how Holly gets ripped for stiffing the hell out of young kids like this, yet a guy like Dynamite Kid does the same thing and gets a free pass. This falls under one of those "double standards" debates.
World's Worst Man
Dynamite Kid doesn't get a free pass. Anyone worth their salt will concede he was a complete prick. It just has absolutely no bearing on his status as one of the best workers of all time, and it's not really relevant to discussion on his ring-work. And related to that, regardless of how much of a prick he was, people like him because he was such a good worker. Bob Holly doesn't have any such qualities, and that's why no one likes him. If he was a good worker, generally people would like him too, despite also being a prick.
Mad Dog
I still believe that management has been behind all of the time's he's stiffed guys. I think at least the Tough Enough incident was and it was to test Matt. I did really like Holly and Haas as a tag team last year.
