paul sosnowski
For some unknown reason, they only aired the final 10 minutes JIP from this match on the 1/14/84 World Class TV show. There are other Flair-Von Erich matches that aired in their entirety, but not this one!!! We start with Flair working over David's left arm, clamping down and putting on the pressure. David starts to go for the claw with his right hand, but Flair quickly pulls his hair and brings him down to the mat. Flair screams at the referee and denies the illegal act. You can hear the ring announcer make the "15 minutes" call. Flair puts David in a tight standing wristlock, clamps the arm down and goes for a pin, gets a two count, four times in a row. David finally rises to his feet and nails Flair with three swinging shots to the head, but Flair whips him hard into the turnbuckle. Big Flair chop, trading blows, David whips Flair into the opposite corner and catches him in a sleeper. Flair eventually breaks it with a back suplex, Flair goes for a piledriver, but David escapes with a high back body drop. David goes to the mat and attempts to put on the Clawhold, but Flair meets him with knees to the midsection. David nails Flair with two big rights, Flair chops and kicks in return. Flair runs down the apron and goes up to the top rope, but David catches him and slams him down. Twenty minutes...the crowd heat is insane!!! David charges at Flair, nails him with 7 blows to the head in the corner, the Champ is getting desperate. David whips Flair into the ropes and hits the high running kneelift for a 2 count. They charge at each other again and David gets a bodypress for another two count. David backslides Flair for and still can't pin him down. Flair throws David over the top rope, directly in front of referee David Manning, Manning screams at Flair and he will not let the Champ disqualify himself, he refuses to end the match. Flair attempts a suplex, David rolls him up and comes back with a suplex of his own. Flair begs for mercy, on his knees in the corner, but David is relentless. Flair does the corner turnbuckle bump, but David immediately gets him in the claw!!!! Flair is busted open and bleeding heavily now. David gets him down, but too close to the ropes. Flair reaches over to the announce table, grabs the ring announcer's microphone and whacks David right in the head with it, busting his opponent open. They both stumble to their feet, but the referee decides he has no choice but to DQ Flair at 23:48. The title does not change hands on a disqualification and Flair clutches his belt tight to his chest. Kerry and Kevin run in, but it is too late. Holy FUCK this was great!!! I really wish we had the complete match. This has to be David's last great match. At least 4**** based on what airs. I need to go back and watch 10/11/82 . kingkangrulz
You didn't miss much in the first 15 minutes. David works the arm for most of that time. I think that brings down the rating for the whole match.
