Still enjoying this series, have two comments about this episode.

The reason the Austin elimination comes off as so weird in 96 is that Austin wasn't supposed to be eliminated then. He was supposed to do one of those apron saves but his grip on the ropes slipped and out he went. He apparently was supposed to be one of the final four.

In 93, Colon basically ignores the Samoans hard heads because he's also an islander. It's not just Samoans, it's the different island guys that have the hard head narrative. So Colon's hard head cancels out Fatu's

Thanks for the kind words and notes... guessing Michaels would have eliminated him?

Sting having to leave for rehab/personal issues came at the end of '98, when Bret Hart takes him out at Havoc. This departure was caused by WCW using up all (almost all) of the contracted dates for the year--I'm not sure when Sting signed his contract but it was doubtless before Nitro was a thing, and they didn't anticipate using him as much as they did when they agreed on that limit. The initial plan was only to get through the end of '96 but then it obviously just kept going.
