I've got 58 left. Unlike last vote, while there are still some gaps to shore up, there are other areas where it's not really a gap and more that it just doesn't appeal to me.
-
Glad Bruno and Dandy survived. Sadly, not surprised by Rose. And we still have not reached the 40% ballot threshold.
-
Don't think anyone ranked so far has been on at least 40% of ballots yet.
-
It'll probably be something like Sammartino, Dandy, Windham, Rose, Benoit and Low Ki.
-
I was rooting for Abdullah to crack the top 100, heck of a placement.
-
62 remain from my ballot, let's see how many survive tomorrow's final drops before the top 100.
-
Most fascinating thing to me so far is we are almost at 120 and no one has yet been on at least 40% of ballots. We're getting mixed pockets of plurality rather than a majority so far.
-
Certainly, I think of how different my ballot this time was compared to 2016 because of the gaps I have filled since then (with more to go). Others are on their own journeys. It's a question of how open or curious people will be outside of the mindset that now is the greatest wrestling ever with no need to contextualize. Used to be 90s All Japan that had that mindset around it but its only relevance now is the Four Pillars and those wrestlers that orbit them. I'm enjoying the highs and lows of the reveal from my point of view, which is unique to me and different from others highs and lows. The good thing is that there are some results that show there are people willing to have curiosity on checking certain wrestlers or styles out. As you say, we just need to figure out how.

It's what I said before, focused on 2010s onwards with the only the visible accepted wisdom of who the legends are surviving this go around and the exceptions that come from pushes within GWE circles. One thing I think may have been more prevalent last time is the thought that the 'now' of the time was too new to properly put in perspective in such a vote. The opposite is seen now, heavier focus on the present and what should be paid attention too based on what exists in their now. It feels like the Boss Baby meme in a way.

Latest drop has put me at 27 gone from my list. Lucha getting hit hard.
-
Aw man, misread their points, thanks for pointing it out. Well, the dream is over then. 😄
-
Homicide and Orton have the same number of points so technically tied for 187. Don't know what the tiebreaker is but if you use points per ballot Homicide ranks higher.
-
I think the results are showing a bent towards those actively prominent from 2010s onwards plus the accepted collective wisdom greats that were still talked about on screen during that time as being great by the wrestling world that exists from 2010s on. Some exceptions mainly from wrestlers or styles that had a focused hyping up in the GWE circles, but I think the cues for which older wrestlers are surviving are coming from that 'accepted collective wisdom' narrative.

It's taken around three years since it was announced but the movie about Puerto Rico wrestling looks to finally be releasing later this summer. Here's the teaser trailer for La Super Estrellas de la Lucha Lubre. -

It's part of the lazy booking they do. Everything in service of going overlong just to hype that it's overlong. -
We're almost to thd end of 1989 in our journey through Puerto Rico wrestling over at Segunda Caida. Hopefully you've been enjoying El Deporte de las Mil Emociones, and if you havent been folliwing along ots a good time to catch up since we're almost at 1990. For those reading, let us know if you have any questions about what we've covered so far. https://segundacaida.blogspot.com/search/label/El Deporte de las Mil Emociones

For anyone interested, over at Segunda Caida I've been working with Matt D on a weekly (or so) column taking a look at Puerto Rican wrestling starting around late summer of 1989. It's called El Deporte de las Mil Emociones. https://segundacaida.blogspot.com/search/label/El Deporte de las Mil Emociones -
If any wrestler could be described as timeless it's Terry Funk. Could be put in any era, any place and just be the best. To me, the absolute greatest of all time.

It's Heyman, so it's self serving 'put my genius over' bs in terms of the 3rd inning wait til you see what happens next stuff.
-
It peaked a few months ago, late spring and summer should have been the ending coda.

For anyone that may be interested, the WWC Aniversario 50 show is this Saturday June 24 and will be available live on http://Fite.tv in both Spanish and English commentary. The event is dedicated to the founders and pillars of the company and to the Puerto Rican fans. Also, WWC was celebrated and honored by the Puerto Rico House of Representatives for the company's 50 year anniversary. A big congratulations to everyone at WWC, especially Victor Jovica and Carlos Colon. -
Yeah, it was all up from the opener which was fine if underwhelming. Looking forward to tomorrow.
-
That was an underwhelming opener. Theory winning got a meh reaction from the crowd.

Yeah, Izzy herself said it was unplanned and Sasha apologized to her after the event ended, Sasha ended up giving Izzy flowers. Although as you mention, Izzy was tangentially involved in the narrative of Bayley's story and a known entity / not just randomly selected. In the case of MJF throwing the drink, the incident should be taken as a warning to be a bit more careful on doing things so off the cuff with people who aren't in on it. You never know when you will inadvertently end up picking on the wrong person to do that to. Just minimizes the possibility of things out of your control happening if these intentional things are done with people who are in on it.
-
The only thing I'll say about the throwing drink thing is that, after seeing the takes out there on how "that's just for heel heat / that's old school heat getting", I'm just wondering when in the history of pro wrestling has heel work involved intentionally getting into a physical altercation with a kid where it hadn't been cleared beforehand.
