NotJayTabb Posted October 26, 2021 Report Posted October 26, 2021 There's 5 von Erich's nominated for GWE, albeit with Waldo not a real part of the clan, and I'm interested to see who ends up higher. Kerry had the highest spot in 2016, but it feels like this could go any way. Maybe not Lacey, I guess...
elliott Posted October 26, 2021 Report Posted October 26, 2021 Kerry is a lock for my list. Huge fan. I'm glad we've sort of managed to put to bed the idea that he wasn't at least a good worker. I can accept someone saying Kerry isn't a top 100 all time worker, but I think the old line about him being bad and needing to be carried is crazy. (Obviously that changes towards the end of his career when he's a mess). Kevin is someone I'm going to think a lot about. He's a tentative no right now for a top 100 list, but he'd be on a top 100 favorites. I absolutely love him in tag & multi man matches. I plan on revisiting some singles matches as we go along. Huge fan of his ultra stiff uncooperative style. It really stands out for the era and fits in.
Dav'oh Posted October 27, 2021 Report Posted October 27, 2021 I don't understand how people can possibly believe the cat story... c'mon - even a high-powered circular saw would take a second or two to bisect a feline, and that's at several thousand RPMs. Someone just throws a blade and it hits the cat, but the blade keeps spinning and moving forward at its original rate, through bone and out the other side? Yeah, nah... Anyway, 1. Kerry 2. Fritz 3. Kevin 4. David
NotJayTabb Posted October 28, 2021 Author Report Posted October 28, 2021 I voted for Kevin, he was my highest placed von Erich in 2016 because of how much I love his scrappy nature, but I'm glad to see some votes in for Fritz too. Everything I've seen of him suggests he was an excellent wrestler, love the Baba matches and even his retirement match with Bundy is a lot of fun. If he had more footage available, I suspect he'd do really well.
elliott Posted October 28, 2021 Report Posted October 28, 2021 I agree with your assessment of Fritz. He's almost certainly the best and an all time great but I just need to see more. The Baba matches are must see matches that everyone should prioritize. They're so great I wouldn't really bat an eye at someone voting for Fritz and he's someone I'll think about at some point during this. Interesting to see David get a vote. I always thought he was pretty bad and I'll overlook just about anything as long as jumping knees are involved.
Mr JMML Posted May 27, 2023 Report Posted May 27, 2023 Fritz's problem is the lack of footage and Kerry is a lock in my list so the answer is clear.
Kain Posted yesterday at 10:41 AM Report Posted yesterday at 10:41 AM Tough one. When I first discovered the Territories World Class became my first favorite which is more or less on the Freebirds vs. von Erichs. I agree that we don't have enough footage of Fritz and that it might be different if we had more. I also agree that what we have is pretty great. But I don't think I could vote for him based on just that. As glad as I am that we have what we have. I've barely seen anything from Waldo and I don't think that anyone would give the vote to Mike or Lacey (or Lance and Chris for that matter). So it's between the Brothers 3 for me. We had the WWF in Germany and Texas Tornado was around. I liked him. That gives him a head start. David was the first one I've checked out. Someone had something available like "Tough Guys of Wrestling" which included David, Dynamite Kid, Steve Williams and Terry Gordy. From that I went to WCCW and did some googleing on them/World Class. One interesting point someone had back then was, that David got the Charisma, Kevin got the Ability in the Ring and Kerry was a mix of both but not as good as either of his Brothers in their resp. strong suits. I'm not sure that I agree, but it's something to play with. David's career was cut short. Had we more the result might be different, esp. if he had become the World Champion and that had worked out. I do think that his Matches are the least memorable. Not bad, mind you. But when it comes to this I do prefer both his Brothers. And while it's always great to see Kevin I do think that Kerry's stuff stands out a lot more. Not just the stuff with the Birds, also vs. Flair, Lawler, Killer Khan, Mr. Perfect and even him teaming with the Warrior in the WWF. So, I'm going with Kerry.
