Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

No way you can bring him back and not have him on last. -
There is a world of difference difference between a snappy one word name like Sunny, Chyna and Jazz and something like 'Charlotte' which just so everyday and boring. At least make it vaguely memorable.

Just beyond belief. Either Austin has a huge ego and wants his win back from all those years ago, or Trips is a huge mark for himself and thinks he is the top 'dream match' of any returning star. Maybe both. You're bringing Austin back after eleven years and you have him face the guy he has wrestled a million times already? Why not Cena, Orton, Punk, Lesnar? Rey should just accept he is done as well, or he is going to become an even bigger wreck. I suppose it is harder for him, because he can't carry on in a non wrestling/special attraction role like others due to the mask. -
Charlotte?! That's all the writers could come up with? Fucking hell, how do these guys keep their jobs. Whoever is in charge of names for WWE does the worst job imaginable. Dolph Ziggler is the most striking example, but the list is endless. "Here is your new Divas Champion....Charlotte."

I could dig this as a modern version of Raven's Flock actually.

I don't get the Wyatt Family hype either. Seems a bit forced and corny to me, and there aren't a lot of places they can go with it once the novelty value wears off. I'd have probably said that about Undertaker in 1990 though.

Got the strange urge to see Rikishi work heel against Necro Butcher. Imagine the heat if he gave him the stink face in front of a massive smark crowd. -
Surprised at: - The comparatively small amount of AJPW - The comparatively large amount of WWF promos/angles Surprised not disappointed - an indication of current trends? Looks a fantastic set in any case, wish I had the money and the time to properly enjoy it. Hoping to buy a full set of all these yearbooks once the cash flow restarts in earnest. Seems like the only wrestling a fan would need on the shelf.

The "Confirmed Stories of Triple H Being A Total Douchebag" Thread
anarchistxx replied to sek69's topic in WWE
Batista would certainly make things interesting, although to be honest there aren't too many fresh feuds for him with the current roster. Brock Lesnar and The Rock are the only really appealing things he could do; nobody wants to see another series with Orton, Cena or HHH. -
Axel is bland as hell. He won't ever be more than a mid card talent - a solid worker but he just doesn't have 'it'. Best suited in the tag division. Maybe Heyman was initially trying to help Punk win the match, but when Punk attacked Curtis Axel he got pissed off and attacked Punk. They could play it as a 'lost patience on the spur of the moment' turn instead of something that has long been planned. Seems to most logical kayfabe explanation. Pretty much. I know you enjoy the product but it constantly underwhelms me. There must be something that keeps me watching on and off. Habit and convenience, I suppose, although it is just as convenient for me to watch TNA and I never find myself tuning in to that. The one where he fell back first on top of it? He looked seriously pissed off at RVD after that, and worked very stiff for the remainder of the match.

I was thinking last night that they should put Dean Ambrose and AJ together, it would be fantastic.

Pretty dreadful show in my opinion. The wrestling was so fucking predictable without ever being noticeably bad. Too many people looked like they were just going through the motions, too many matches just did the minimum possible to get by and look respectable. The booking decisions were horrendous, and all of them played out really badly. At least SkySports showed it for free, I'd have felt ripped off if I'd paid for it.

The main event was underwhelming to say the least, as poor a ladder match as I have seen in a long while. Really badly laid out, a terrible mess given the talent involved. Horrifically slow pace, loads of sitting around, shitty strikes, utterly generic ladder spots. They picked it up slightly for the stretch but still couldn’t call it a good match. The finish was terrible as well, the crowd didn’t give a fuck about Orton. RVD and Bryan were the saving graces, crazily over and was the only ones who showed any type of charisma or connection with the crowd. Punk looks in bad shape and unmotivated. Sheamus should probably go heel, his joke cracking smiley happy lame face character is the pits and he got serious heat tonight. The Heyman turn was predictable and uninteresting, especially since they did a similar face wrestler/heel manager turn with AJ and Ziggler earlier on. They should have really pushed the button on both Ziggler and RVD tonight, when they are at the peak of their freshness and popularity. If RVD does get a title shot in a few months the aura will be lost, after months of pointless defeats on Raw and underwhelming feuds with the vacuous midcard.

Cena/Henry followed the trend of the night by being just about there. Nothing was particularly good, except for the Henry control segment early on which was fun. The STFU is the worst looking submission move ever, in the hands of Cena anyway. The final application looked so weak, almost embarrassing that he tapped to that. All a bit underwhelming, although it was always going to be a placeholder feud.

Del Rio/Ziggler is the feud that will never end. They need to get the belt back on Dolph as soon as possible, Del Rio is close to getting X-Pac heat at the minute. Have they ditched the annoying personal ring announcer? Finish was predictable and unrewarding. They obviously tried with the match and there were a couple of decent spots, but if you have no connection with the workers or the characters it makes no difference.

Pretty nondescript since the opener. Axel hasn't convinced me, very bland to say the least. Him against Miz was as boring and average as it sounds. The women's match surprised me, although I didn't pay too much attention. Sloppy at times. I liked the finish. Ryback/Jericho was another by-the-numbers type match, nothing to make it stand out. Horrible finish too, didn't seem to further any kind of storyline.

The blood was strange. Presumably it was hardway, it just seemed to disappear really quickly.

Cody Rhodes will make a brilliant fiery underdog face judging by that evidence. Hopefully this constitutes a turn, his heel character is really dull. The match itself was fun. The first half seemed a bit awkward, and the dynamic between the workers wasn't the best. After that there were some really innovative spots, mostly involving Dean Ambrose who I was certain would win. Not sure what Sandow gets from this, nobody buys him seriously as a world title threat and if they do put the strap on him it will seem ridiculously premature.

Problem is, nobody knows when the board is going to implode, so the temptation is just to put off any archiving. I've regretted not saving more on music forums I've been on. Always meant to, but never had the time and just decided I could do it at some vague point in the future. Plus, many large threads are constantly evolving anyway. This is a big thing that needs to be considered by the whole internet. So much important stuff from the 90s and early 00s has just disappeared into oblivion. Historians in the future are going to be pulling their hair out at all the early internet content that just got unceremoniously deleted. You lose the whole cultural story it told. Was it Angelfire where the whole thing was just expunged? Disgraceful. -

A better solution would have been to manually save the threads, to be distributed once more to whoever wanted to read them, or kept in a database online. I find it hard to believe that nobody preserved anything. -

I wouldn't bank on it. Most forums I know that have crashed have lost all usable backups. Server companies aren't exactly diligent in terms of securing this kind of stuff, that is why it is best to keep personal records of anything you want to revisit. -

ProWrestlingOnly is far better than DVDVR in my opinion. Better, uncluttered, more concise presentation for a start. Some incredibly knowledgeable people are here, and some brilliant research is written and talked about. There is a varied crowd. There is more openness to opinions that clash often irrevocably. There is generally a very good atmosphere. This board is fascinating just to read, even when you have nothing worthwhile to contribute yourself. The sheer depth of knowledge and viewed wrestling on here can be quite intimidating to a casual fan, but nobody is made to feel unwelcome. Easily the best wrestling board since Smarkschoice, albeit completely different in tone to that. That had the best sub-forums, especially for the music sections. Chit Chat was always funny as well. These days I tend to go on different forums for different things - I have no desire to talk about film or music on a wrestling board. -
If WWE wants to get 'hot' again they will need to significantly change their style and image, which they don't appear willing to do. They are currently a safe, corporate, clean, non-offensive, homogenous product, which will continue steadily along but probably won't see any vast rises or dips in business until they change the way it is perceived and presented.

DVDVR has been slowly dying for years, hasn't it? Message boards in general are declining rapidly. This board is a happy exception. -
Yeah, the ending to that Elimination Chamber match was awful, made all the more galling by the fact HHH was injured, in makeshift gear and should have been dropping the title regardless in that condition. That era is filled with the resigned sighs of the IWC after Trips regained or retained at PPVs - the 2003 Armageddon triple threat and the Orton match in 2004 are perhapsthe zeniths of internet disdain for Helmsley, where people just couldn't believe he would book himself to win the belt once again.
