  1. To me, Match of the Year means the best match of the year, not the best match of a 12-month period, if that makes sense. Was the Triple H-HBK title match from Raw in December 2003, arguably the best match the two have ever had together, even in contention for 2004 MOTY in Observer or RSPW voting? I know I didn't consider it because I was voting for the 2004 match of the year I'd rather be six weeks behind the times but get an accurate award than have it ready to go on January 1 but miss a month of matches. On a side note, either system is better than the Aptermags system of "only the current calendar year can be considered even though we need your votes before Thanksgiving". And people wonder why everybody claims the PWI awards are fake.

  3. Flair vs. Carlito on Raw. Not necessarily a better match than anything else on that list (although I missed Velocity this week), but a fun match that vastly exceeded my expectations.
  4. Point taken, though. It'd probably help matters if Mae wasn't riding on Moolah's jock all the time though, because then maybe Moolah would have a chance to look relevant instead of being hindered by her sidekick that the company still thinks is funny and shocking, but isn't. Here's my thing. Moolah doesn't bother me since she held the Women's Title for so long, the WWWF wasn't even in existence when her first reign started. But did Mae Young ever have a WWWFE match prior to being brought into the Attitude era for no other reason then being the only woman wrestler Moolah's age that was still alive?
  5. It's WWE. The place where clean pins in title matches mean you've pissed somebody off and will thus get buried. Has there been a completely clean pin in a tag team title change since they went from WWF to WWE? Hell, off the top of my head, the only face tag team I can recall jobbing the titles cleanly to a heel team were Tony Atlas and Rocky Johnson. To, coindicentally, Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch.
  6. As much I love Dick Beyer as The Destroyer, the words "Giant Baba" and "Five Stars" being in the same post just don't go together. I'd really have to see the match to buy that.
  7. They had basically booked themselves into a corner with this. They had to get the belt off of Gibson since he could be called by WWE to go on the road at anytime. Plus, the kayfabe reason Dragon left in May was his failure to win the belt off of Aries. The fact that Dragon might be the best worker in the company (an arguable point, I know, but you can make the case for it) only helps matters.
  8. I actually thought "Road Warriors vs. Midnight Express" when I first saw it, but either way it's shades of Dusty Rhodes. I actually like the finish though, as it puts Cade and Murdoch over without completely burying Rosey and The Hurricane.
  9. There's enough on it that I haven't seen that I might consider buying it. This is one time where not having the Mid-South and World Class libraries is biting Vince in the ass though, as most of Jake's best stuff came from those two areas.
  10. The one thing that's been bothering me the most about this: Why the hell did they wait two years to go after Justin Credible if they're so damn concerned with their "intellectual property" rights?
  11. I forget what source they used, but someone on TSM posted that Spike TV wanted Jarrett to have the title since he tested well with audiences. Still, why not somebody who, you know, gets a reaction on TV or something?
  12. Doesn't that initial year actually expire in December? You know, since that's when the competition ended and all?
  13. I'd actually like to add the 10/81 Backlund-Muraco match from Philly. A solid one hour draw (actually in the 55-minute range).
  14. Roddy Piper vs. Greg Valentine (11/24/1983 -- Dog Collar match from Starrcade) The Brisco Brothers vs. Jay Youngblood/Ricky Steamboat (11/24/1983--NWA Tag Team Title match from Starrcade) The Rougeau Brothers vs. The British Bulldogs (8/29/1988 -- SummerSlam) The Rougeau Brothers/Rick Martel vs. The Rockers/Tito Santana (8/28/1989 -- SummerSlam)
  15. Al Snow vs. Marty Jannetty -- MTW Title Match -- SMW Super Bowl of Wrestling (8/4/95) --I dunno if it's available in its entirety, but I saw the last six or seven minutes of this on SMW TV a few weeks after it happened and was blown away. This went something like 27 minutes too. Probably available from someone if you look hard enough. Heavenly Bodies vs. Thrillseekers (SMW Night of the Legends -- sometime in 1994. August 7 maybe?) --This is the match where Jericho broke his arm trying a shooting star press before the show, and they work around his injury and still put on some pretty good stuff.
  16. I don't remember seeing this nominated (although if it has then by all means ignore it): 6/12/04: CM Punk vs. Samoa Joe (the first one hour draw)
  17. Pretty good opener, particularly once it comes down to Furnas and LaFon vs. Owen and Davey Boy Sucked. The first bad match they had at a major show I don't remember this being bad, but it wasn't particularly memorable either. The best match they ever had together, and quite possibly the best match ever. Seriously. This was actually hitting a pretty good groove before they had to rush the finish. I hate to shill my work, but I've got the in-depth review here. Pretty good by Sid Vicious standards.

  22. Two TV tapings on the same day? Does anybody know if this was a common occurence with the WWWF?

  24. I think McMahon would have been surprised by the pop had Christian pinned Cena at Vengeance.
  25. Here's one thing I don't get about this match, and it's not even the match itself. The decision wound up being reversed (supposedly Verne Gagne ordered the replay to be shown on the Jumbotron), only for the Roadies to lose the belts to Jimmy Garvin and "Mr. Electricity" Steve (not William) Regal. Who the fuck thought that was a good idea?
