  1. I think Bronco Lubich is still alive, actually. I thought I saw a thread on the Kayfabe Memories board that said his health wasn't the best these days, but he's still ticking. And yes, Jake Roberts is still alive but half the top names aren't. Weird how life turns out.
  2. I agree. I would LOVE to see Misawa, Kawada, Kobashi or Taue live and in person, and I'd probably be marking the fuck out if I was ever lucky enough to see one of them live up close. I know that all of them are nothing close to as good as they were when they were in their primes about 10 years ago...but it would still be a BLAST to see them live. Hell, I would have driven down from Toronto to see Kobashi if that had been possible for me. I could agree with that to a point. However, you've more or less set yourself up to be disappointed. I'd always wanted to see Ric Flair compete live and never thought I could because there was only so much the NWA came to town, and Flair may or may not have been at that particular show. So when he came to the WWF and wrestled Roddy Piper in the main event, I was sure to go and mark out like hell. But if I started chanting "This is awesome" as a markout move and the match sucked? Yikes.

  5. I just saw Kobashi vs. Joe the other day, and oh my God, what a fight. That's the best way to say it, a fight. Not the greatest match ever (and why the crowd chants "This is awesome" barely a minute in I'll never know), but North American Match of the Year by far.

    Carlito

The problem with that is Carlito's gimmick is so good ... and he's so good at it ... it's hard to keep him a heel as it is. I'd like to know what the excuse is for them not allowing their babyfaces to do all their highspots.
  7. I'm just glad we actually got a couple of good wrestling matches on a night that we held tribute to one of the greatest all-around performers I've ever seen in a wrestling ring. God, that was a hard two hours to go through.
  8. Greatest quote by a former pro wrestler ever.
  9. I'm on my lunch break, trying in vain to get through my work day, and it's still hard. I saw the news at 5pm yesterday, said "Holy shit" and just sat there stunned. And when my fiancee asked me what was wrong, I couldn't speak. I just pointed at the headline. She told me, "I can't believe you're taking this like you lost a family member." But you know, in a lot of ways, I feel like I have. Rest in peace, Eddy, and godspeed.
  10. The recap of the interview did say Jericho said it light-heartedly though. Did he actually mean to sass Angle or was he trying to be funny? Light hearted or not though, he's right. The Jericho-Cena matches were better than the Angle-Cena matches.
  11. How's this for one that's apparently slipped under the radar? Ric Flair vs. Sting (Clash I--3/27/88) I swear I remember it being nominated but did a search and didn't see it. They also had a hell of a match on Worldwide a month or so sooner. It aired in February, but I can't remember the date. If I find it, I'll post it here, but I'd like to nominate that one.
  12. What's the current status on this project? I know we'd been talking about pushing it back six months or so. Is that still the plan?
  13. Yeah, and then you have people like me who were loyal Monday Night wrestling viewers for years who don't watch on Monday nights anymore. In fact, I turned out in early 2002 watching dog skits. I can only imagine what I would have thought of a Katie Vick skit or this BS. Seriously, why do you guys watch this stuff? In the hopes of getting a good match? Maybe... just maybe you'll hear a great promo? I've actually resorted to watching tapes a day or two after the fact so I can fast forward through the garbage and watch what I enjoy. I can get through the average episode of Raw in about ten minutes these days, including the time it takes to stop the tape to grab a beer and make a sandwich.
  14. Eddy. As far as it goes in the ring, I like both guys and could watch them wrestle all day long. However, Rey has never had any type of substantial heel run that I'm aware of, and without that it's hard to call him better than Eddy, who has done both and been successful at both.

  16. I'm apparently in the minority, but I voted for Flair. Simply put, I can watch Ric Flair against anyone and know I'm getting something watchable out of it. George South of all people looked to be a viable threat to Flair, that's how good he was. Bret, while capable of doing the same thing, had a tendency to go through the motions more often than Flair IMO. In all actuality, I could watch both men's stuff all day long and not get sick of it, but I find myself more inclined to watch Flair's average stuff than Bret's average stuff.
  17. How hard is it to book a decent angle for somebody. "Hi, I'm Micki James. I want your title." Voila! It took all of ten seconds to figure that one out.
  18. Would it really have been bad to say "Jim Ross needs surgery and will be out for a month, so it's just Coach and King for the next few weeks"? I knew this was a Stephanie and/or Triple H thing as soon as Stephanie showed up on TV last week (which is what, three times they've welched on the "She'll never be on TV again" stipulation?). I'm very glad I'm only watching Raw on videotape anymore, because if I were still trying to watch this shit live I'd be changing the channel to Monday Night Football. Is it any coincidence that ever since the McMahons came back to Raw that SmackDown has felt like the better show?

  21. Adding one I don't remember seeing. It probably won't rate too high in the actual voting: Rick & Scott Steiner vs. Money Inc. -- cage match; 8/16/1993 (aired 8/22 on the SummerSlam Spectacular)
  22. I voted for US 80s, simply because... A.) That's the era I enjoyed the most. B.) I like to be different. Count me in on this project either way.
  23. I'm glad to see the love for the Bret-Steamboat match from Boston. One of the greatest matches that many fans have never seen.
  24. Hell, they have at least three hours and ten minutes to kill tonight. Are we supposed to get 190 minutes of Superstars-era squashes or something? Just be thankful they haven't announced Chief Jay Strongbow vs. Harley Race vs. Koko B. Ware or something for tonight.
  25. Um...I just want to know what the fuck Bobby Heenan ever did to cause Warrior to give that kind of reaction. Besides, you know, say Warrior couldn't work, which was true.
