  2. WWA News and Notes USA officials were happy with the presentation of the special this past Saturday, but the rating was a disappointment as they couldn't advertise the show properly with so much turmoil in the back office. The next special is tentatively scheduled for May 26, but between Mid-South's Superdome show and the Missouri Title tournament, WWA officials are trying to get it pushed back to June 9. USA is claiming pushing the special back would be in violation of their contract and are insisting on changing the date to May 19. Apparently there will be some roster turnover in the near future, which is the primary reason for the Missouri Title tournament. Chris Adams and Nick Bockwinkel will be placed on opposite brackets to make people think they will be facing each other in the finals, but I'm told that's not necessarily the case. At some point Dick the Bruiser will resign as commissioner to make an in-ring comeback, but they're waiting for the right angle and opponent. The tournament for the Missouri Title will be 16 men and is expected to last 6 weeks. There is talk of trying to do something that has never been done before the semifinals and finals, but at this point nobody is saying what that is. Rumors that Brickhouse Brown might be on the way out.
  3. April 28, 1984 - WWA’s April Assault, airing live on the USA Network from the International Ampitheatre in Chicago, IL David McLane introduces the show and announces that Arnold Skaaland has resigned as WWA’s commissioner. He introduces the replacement, Dick the Bruiser. Bruiser announces that in order to accept the position as WWA Commissioner that he can no longer compete in a WWA ring without prior approval from the WWA Board of Directors. He also apologizes for the recent hiatus but says that every WWA title will be on the line tonight, including the NWA World Heavyweight Title as Ric Flair will defend the title against Jimmy Snuka in a rematch of the last two USA specials, and this time it will take place in a steel cage. 1. One fall with a 15-minute time limit for the NWA Midwest Television Title: Larry Zbyszko© went to a time limit draw against Harley Race. 2. No Disqualification Match: Bobo Brazil pinned Brickhouse Brown with a Coco Butt in 7:14. 3. One fall with a 20-minute time limit: Les Thornton pinned Jim Powers with a double underhook suplex in 3:27. 4. One fall with a 20-minute time limit: Keith Larsen pinned Zoltan the Great with a high cross body in 2:27. 5. One fall with a 30-minute time limit for the NWA Central States Tag Team Championship: Common Ground© defeated The O Zone in 12:41 when Eddie Gilbert pinned Jerry Oske with a small package. Both teams shook hands after the match. Intermission. During the intermission, McLane interviewed Flair and Snuka about their upcoming cage match, as well as Nick Bockwinkel and Chris Adams about their upcoming return match for the Missouri Title. 6. One fall with a 20-minute time limit: Dory Funk Jr. defeated Billy Anderson by submission to a spinning toehold in 1:31. 7. One fall with a one hour time limit for the NWA World Tag Team Championship: Mando & Chavo Guerrero© defeated Matt Borne & Dan Spivey in 14:23 when Chavo pinned Spivey with the moonsault. 8. One fall with a one hour time limit for the NWA Missouri Heavyweight Championship: In a controversial finish, Chris Adams© appeared to pin Nick Bockwinkel with a bridging back suplex in 46:21; however, referee Connie Marker ruled that Adams’ shoulders were also down on the pinfall. Replays showed that Adams’ shoulders were indeed down but that Bockwinkel may have lifted a shoulder just as the third count hit the mat. During the intermission to set up the cage, David McLane interviewed Commissioner Dick the Bruiser. “We have never had an ending like this to a title match in the history of WWA. We have a situation here where the champion was clearly pinned, and it appears the challenger may have kicked out in time but there’s just no way to tell. So here’s what we have. Chris Adams is no longer the Missouri Heavyweight Champion.” At this point, Bockwinkel interrupts and asks for the belt, but Bruiser cuts him off. “However, since the referee’s ruling was that Bockwinkel was also pinned, I have no choice but to rule the title vacant” (Bockwinkel: “That’s ridiculous!”) “and we will start a tournament for the title on television next week.” Bruiser walks off as Bockwinkel remains incredulous at the decision. 9. Steel Cage Match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship: Ric Flair© pinned Jimmy Snuka in 14:25. Snuka had Flair bloody and in trouble when he climbed to the top rope, paused, and then climbed all the way up to the top rope. He went for the Superfly Splash, but Flair rolled out of the way, sending Snuka crashing to the canvas. Flair was able to drape an arm over Snuka for the pin.

  5. WWA News There are a lot of rumors taking place backstage as to the state of the company and how it will move forward in the future, and most of it is not clear. After Shamrocks and Shenanigans, some issues with how things were handled backstage have led to the current hiatus of the WWA. The contract with USA requires one special to air every month, so they have to run a show on Saturday (April 28) in order to keep the deal, but a lot of people are wondering if that show will even take place. WWA does have the International Ampitheatre in Chicago booked for Saturday and they have had a date on NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair booked for months, so I'd expect the show to go off in some form. However, due to the turmoil and the hiatus (which came with no advance notice) there is no word as to whether anybody on the roster will be there. Aside from those who worked the Paul Boesch tag tournament (and a handful taking limited dates outside WWA), nobody has worked, which means nobody's making money What we do know for sure is that Arnold Skaaland has been removed as WWA's on-screen commissioner. This was Skaaland's decision as he doesn't want to travel from White Plains, New York to Indianapolis every week. A new commissioner is expected to be named on the USA special should it take place. There is a new manager coming in to replace Bobby Heenan. The original plan was to debut him on the upcoming special but due to the hiatus, the angle to bring him in that was to be started a few weeks ago hasn't started, so it could be pushed back a month.
  6. Since it hasn't come up, I'd assume the Graham-Bruno match from Baltimore mentioned a couple of pages ago is the title change, which would be Vince Jr. on commentary. If somehow it isn't the title change, I'm curious. I am so behind on this stuff right now.
  7. Sorry guys, haven't been checking into the board much with this sabbatical but post your May requests here. 9. WWA Superstar Challenge quick ‘n’ dirty results 3/17/2016 1. In a coward waves the flag match, Chris Adams & Common Gorund (w/surprise cornerman Dick the Bruiser) defeated Nick Bockwinkel & The Midnight Express (w/Bobby Heenan) in 8:46 when Heenan swung his flag to try to keep Bruiser at bay and the referee mistook it for waving the flag in surrender; as a result, Bockwinkel would be forced to defend the Missouri Heavyweight Championship against Adams at Shamrock and Shenanigans. WWA Shamrocks and Shenanigans quick ‘n’ dirty results 3/17/2016 1. NWA Midwest Television Champion Larry Zbyszko pinned Hector Guerrero in 17:24. 2. The Rougeau Brothers defeated The Zambuie Express by disqualification in 7:48. 3. Harley Race pinned Dory Funk Jr. in 9:21. 4. Goliath left his boots in the ring after the match, signaling his retirement. 8. Chris Adams pinned Nick Bockwinkel with a superkick in 11:23 to win the NWA Missouri Heavyweight Title. Bobby Heenan came to ringside with Bockwinkel but was escorted to the back by security as he was no longer a WWA employee. 8. NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair defeated Jimmy Snuka by disqualification in 16:42 when Snuka accidentally punched referee Connie Marker.
  10. A bit behind on TV and my big show but will be posting them sometime this week. After that, I'll end up taking a few weeks off. Getting burned out between this and a few other projects so aside from what is absolutely necessary, I'll be backing away until I get back from my Vegas trip next month. This is still fun for me but time is not an ally right now
  11. March 10, 1984 – WWA Superstar Challenge (airing as Wrestling at the Chase in St. Louis, MO) airing live from the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN David McLane welcomes us to the show and announces the main event tonight will be Nick Bockwinkel defending the NWA Missouri Heavyweight Title against the top contender, “Gentleman” Chris Adams. This brings out Nick Bockwinkel, who admits the actions of Bobby Heenan as of late have been a distraction, as he is worried that Heenan will not be his manager in two weeks time, but he vows not to allow it to take away from the match. Heenan then comes out to the interview area and says not to worry about him, as there is no way his Midnight Express won’t walk away without the Central States Tag Team Titles, so he’ll always be in Bockwinkel’s corner. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- 1. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Dan Spivey (w/Matt Borne) pinned Jerry Grey with a bulldog in just 30 seconds. After the match, Borne and Spivey hit the interview area. Borne again brags about running Mike Rotundo out of the WWA and puts the rest of the promotion on notice. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- McLane interviews Gary Hart, who has Black Gordman and Goliath with him. Hart announces that Goliath has an announcement to make. Goliath says that while he has had a great career, over the last few years injuries have caught up to him and that the time has come for him to retire. He says he wants to have one final match next week at Shamrocks and Shenanigans, and he can think of no better opponent than his long time partner, Black Gordman. Gordman and Hart both look surprised, and Goliath explains that over the years, a lot of people asked who is the better of the two. Now, he wants one match against his long time partner just to say the match happened. Gordman thinks about it for a few minutes, but eventually agrees and shakes Goliath’s hand. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- 2. One fall with a 30-minute time limit for the NWA Missouri Heavyweight Championship: Chris Adams defeated Nick Bockwinkel© (w/Bobby Heenan) by disqualification in 10:26. Adams hits Bockwinkel with the superkick and goes for the pin, but Heenan broke up the pin. After the bell, Adams superkicks Heenan and lays him out cold. The Midnight Express come out to the ring and begin screaming at McLane for what just happened to Heenan. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- The Midnight Express are at ringside still yelling, and Bockwinkel comes over and calls Adams a coward. So Bockwinkel has a proposal for Adams. Next week, he wants a six man tag match where he teams with the Midnight Express. He wants Adams to team with Common Ground and find a cornerman. Heenan will be in their corner. The cornermen will carry white flags, and the only way to win the match is for the cornerman to prove himself a coward and wave the flag to force his team to surrender. “And if, by some fluke, your team wins this match, then later that night at Shamrocks and Shenanigans, I will give you one more shot at this belt.” 3. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Jimmy Snuka pinned Zoltan the Great with the Superfly Leap in 5:28. McLane interviews Snuka after the match. A short interview with Snuka saying he will be the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion after he defeats Ric Flair at Shamrocks and Shenanigans. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- 4. One fall with a 15-minute time limit: The Rougeau Brothers defeated Jerry Valiant & Sheik Abdullah in 11:06 when Jacques pinned Abdullah with le Bombe de Rougeau. Most in the crowd are surprised that Valiant and Abdullah got as much offense in as they did. During the match, McLane announces The Rougeau Brothers will face The Zambuie Express at Shamrocks and Shenanigans. After the match, Dory Funk Jr. and James J. Dillon are at the interview area. Dillon says he just received word that Funk will be facing Harley Race next Saturday night at Shamrocks and Shenanigans. Dillon says Race might think he has the advantage since he defeated Dory for the NWA World Title, but that was over ten years ago. It’s time to stop living in the past and start living in the present. McLane then runs down the card as it stands now for Shamrocks and Shenanigans: -The Rougeau Brothers vs. The Zambuie Express -Harley Race vs. Dory Funk Jr. -Goliath’s retirement match: Black Gordman vs. Goliath -NWA Central States Tag Team Title vs. Bobby Heenan’s career: The Midnight Express vs. Common Ground© -NWA World Heavyweight Title: Jimmy Snuka vs. Ric Flair© McLane then announces that during the break, Chris Adams and Common Ground accepted the challenge of Nick Bockwinkel and the Midnight Express for the Coward Waves the Flag Match for TV next week. Adams then comes to the interview area and says they will name their cornerman next week just prior to the match getting underway. With that, McLane tells us to come back next week for Superstar Challenge.
  12. Updated. Sorry for the delay
  13. March 3, 1984 – WWA Superstar Challenge live from the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN David McLane welcomes us to the show and says the main event, airing in its entirety, will be the main event from the Tough Love broadcast that did not air on February 17 as scheduled. COMMERCIAL Common Ground, fresh off of their upset victory over the Zambuie Express last week, come to the interview area. They say they have nothing to prove against Bobby Heenan’s Midnight Express, but given the chance to get rid of Heenan once and for all, they will gladly accept the challenge. COMMERCIAL 1. One fall with a 15-minute time limit: In a mild upset, The Midnight Express (w/Bobby Heenan) are defeated by The Rougeau Brothers in 14:23. Jacques appeared to injure his left shoulder early in the match and was pounded on by the Express for most of the last ten minutes. Late in the match, Eddie Gilbert and Tony Garea stand behind Bobby Heenan. Heenan turns around and starts screaming at them, which distracts Dennis Condrey long enough for Raymond to tag in and roll him up for a pin. After the match, a livid Heenan begins screaming at Common Ground from ringside. COMMERCIAL \he Chris Adams/Harley Race vs. Nick Bockwinkel/Dory Funk Jr. match from Tough Love airs in its entirety.
  14. February 25, 1984 - WWA Superstar Challenge live from the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN The show opens with David McLane apologizing for last week’s technical difficulties preventing the show from going on the USA Network as scheduled, but the next two weeks will be dedicated to not only showing the key matches from that event, but also in building to the next scheduled event for the USA Network scheduled for March 17 entitled “Shamrocks and Shenanigans”, which will take place from the International Ampitheatre in Chicago, IL. McLane brings in Dan Spivey to go over the match from last week where Black Gordman and Goliath defeated Spivey and Mike Rotundo. As most of the match airs, Spivey admits that he came into the WWA for the sole purpose of taking Rotundo out, and befriending him was just part of the plan. Spivey says he didn’t act alone, and as soon as the finish is shown, Spivey introduces “My mentor, Matt Borne.” Borne then comes into the interview area, laughing maniacally at how easy things were. When McLane asks Borne why he would target Rotundo, he responds, “For the last year and a half, no matter where I go, all I hear about is this hotshot kid from Syracuse who is supposed to be the next coming of Jack Brisco or Lou Thesz. Well, a lot of people don’t know this, but he came through my home of Portland a few months ago, and as soon as he heard I was coming, he tucked his tail and ran. So I hired Danny here to let him know that he doesn’t decide when to leave a territory. I decide when he leaves a territory. And I decided it’s time for him to leave. And guess what? He isn’t here anymore, is he? And he’s never coming back, McLane!” ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- 1. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Jimmy Snuka pinned Brickhouse Brown with a Superfly Splash in 8:45. After the match, McLane interviews Snuka regarding his double disqualification against NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair last week as highlights of the match are shown. The rematch is official for March 17, and Snuka says Flair was lucky to get away with the title last time. This time, “the belt’s coming to the islands with me, brudda!” ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- McLane announces that by winning both matches in the best of three series against The Midnight Express last week, the team of Common Ground will be taking on The Zambuie Express for the NWA Central States Tag Team Title in tonight’s main event. Bobby Heenan comes out in protest, saying that if not for a referee that Tony Garea and Eddie Gilbert had in their back pocket, Randy Rose would have beaten Garea and the best they would be is tied right now. Heenan issues the challenge for Shamrocks and Shenanigans for a tag team rematch. “And I hope you guys win those belts tonight, because if you do, we’ll be the ones to take them from you.” ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- 2. One fall with a 15-minute time limit: The Midnight Express (w/Bobby Heenan) went to a double disqualification with The Rougeau Brothers in 11:48 when all four men wouldn’t stop brawling in the ring. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- McLane announces that next week’s main event will be the match from last week between Nick Bockwinkel and Dory Funk Jr. vs. Harley Race and Chris Adams in its entirety. 3. One fall with a 30-minute time limit for the NWA Central States Tag Team Title: Common Ground defeated The Zambuie Express (w/Gary Hart) to win the titles in 12:50. Garea was caught in a bearhug by Kareem Muhammad, but with the referee distracted by Elijah Akeem, Gilbert came off the top rope with a flying dropkick into Garea’s back that dropped both men, Garea landing on top of Akeem for the three count. After the match, a livid Gary Hart went to the interview area screaming at McLane about the finish. McLane says it serves them right for the underhanded tactics his men have been using, and Hart yells at McLane claiming he has no right to speak to him or his men like that. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- With the show getting ready to end, McLane seems flabbergasted as to how much has happened already tonight. With that, Bobby Heenan comes back out to the interview area with a big smile on his face. Heenan says he feels bad for Gary Hart that his men got jobbed like they did, but he has yet to hear an answer from Common Ground due to his earlier challenge. “So let me sweeten the pot just a little bit. Garea. Gilbert. You give me what I want. I want my men to get a shot at those Central States Tag Team Championships. And I’ll go so far as to put my career in the WWA on the line.” McLane: “You’re WHAT?” At this, Nick Bockwinkel comes to the interview area and pulls Heenan aside, and he starts asking Heenan “What are you thinking” as the show fades to black.
  15. The USA Network is not happy with the satellite feed being unavailable due to the snowstorm that hit Indiana this past week. They filled the time airing old WWF shows from Madison Square Garden but never made it clear they were repeats, so a lot of fans tuning in thought the WWF was making a comeback, Mike Rotundo is gone as a full time member of the roster. He will be back to blow off his feud with Dan Spivey, but it may be several months down the line. I understand someone is coming in to replace Rotundo on TV next week and his appearance will lead to the next chapter of the story. There are rumors that Jimmy Hart may be coming in from Mid-South but they are asking for Bobby Heenan in return. Rumor is that Dick the Bruiser is interested in pulling the trigger (he and Heenan don't get along anyway) but Nick Bockwinkel might be blocking the deal.
  16. This roster is both the easiest and the toughest to write for, as I have to job SOMEBODY out and 3/4 of the roster I don't want to let job
  17. (NOTE: Due to issues beyond my control, I didn't have time for a full show so we're going with the TL;DR version) Due to a snowstorm in the Indianapolis area, the WWA TV show was not broadcast as the crew could not get to the studio. The live “Tough Love” event did take place but could not air due to the snow preventing the signal from reaching the satellite. Expect footage to air in future weeks on WWA TV, but we did receive a live report. 1. Billy Anderson pinned Zoltan the Great in 9:46. 2. NWA Midwest Television Champion Larry Zbyszko pinned Bobo Brazil in 7:31. 3. Tony Garea defeated Randy Rose by disqualification in 7:28. 4. Andre the Giant pinned The Magnificent Muraco in 8:21. 5. The Youngbloods defeated NWA Central States Tag Team Champions The Zambuie Express two falls to one in 16:25. The third fall ended in a disqualification so the Zambuie Express retained the titles. 6. NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair battled Jimmy Snuka to a double disqualification in 18:39. 7. Eddie Gilbert upset Dennis Condrey in 2:09. 8. Black Gordman & Goliath defeated Dan Spivey & Mike Rotundo in 4:18 when Goliath pinned Rotundo after Spivey took his own partner down with a bulldog. 9. Dory Funk Jr. & Nick Bockwinkel battled Chris Adams & Harley Race to a 30-minute time limit draw; Adams appeared to have Bockwinkel pinned following a superkick as time expired.
  18. February 11, 1984 – WWA Superstar Challenge (airing as Wrestling at the Chase in St. Louis) from the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN David McLane welcomes us to the show and pushes not only the open challenge announced last week between Black Gordman & Goliath vs. The O Zone, but also a match between Brickhousr Brown and Hector Guerrero to take place later tonight. The show begins with Bobby Heenan bringing out The Midnight Express where they discuss their three match series that begins next Saturday night at Tough Love in Indianapolis. Heenan calls it the easiest matches that Dennis Condrey and Randy Rose have ever had in their careers. “Garea’s OK, but that Gilbert kid is so over his head that being six feet under would be a step up for him. 1. One fall with a 15-minute time limit: Common Ground defeated NWA Central States Tag Team Champions The Zambuie Express (w/Gary Hart) by disqualification in 1:31 when The Midnight Express interfered. A 4 on 1 beatdown continued until The Youngbloods made the save. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- 2. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Dan Spivey (w/Mike Rotundo) pinned Zoltan the Great with a bulldog in 3:43. After the match, McLane interviewed Spivey and Mike Rotundo. Rotundo continued to praise the work ethic and potential on Spivey and said he was proud to be his partner while Spivey looked on and said nothing. --------- COMMERCIAL --------- 3. One fall with a 15-minute time limit: Black Gordman & Goliath (w/Gary Hart) defeated The O Zone in 4:45 when Goliath pinned Jerry Oske. After the match, McLane interviewed Gordman, Goliath and Hart. Hart issued another open challenge on behalf of his men for Tough Love next Saturday. The interview was interrupted by Dan Spivey, who immediately accepted the challenge. McLane asked if Mike Rotundo would be OK with this and Spivey assured him Rotundo would appreciate it. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- 4. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: In what has to be considered an upset, Brickhouse Brown pinned Hector Guerrero with a flying bodypress. After the match, Brickhouse comes to the interview area bragging about how he has proven he doesn’t need Bobo Brazil to be a superstar. This brings out Brazil who ends up goading Brown into accepting a match against him later in the show. McLane says we’ll have that match if there’s time. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- McLane interviews Mike Rotundo who says he doesn’t back down from a challenge and is perfectly fine with taking on Gordman and Goliath at Tough Love, but he wishes Spivey would have at least consulted with him before automatically accepting the challenge. 5. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Jimmy Snuka pinned Jerry Valiant with the Superfly Leap in 1:13. McLane comments about how Snuka is possibly on the best roll of his career leading into the match of a lifetime against Ric Flair next weekend. McLane runs down the card for Tough Love next Saturday, taking place at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis and airing live on USA. NWA World Heavyweight Title: Jimmy Snuka vs. Ric Flair© NWA Midwest Television Title: Larry Zbyszko© vs. Bobo Brazil JUST ANNOUNCED for the NWA Central States Tag Team Title: Jay & Mark Youngblood vs. The Zambuie Express© Two out of Three Falls: Dory Funk Jr. & Nick Bockwinkel vs. Harley Race & Chris Adams Match 1 of a Best of 3 Series: Randy Rose vs. Tony Garea Match 2 of a Best of 3 Series: Dennis Condrey vs. Eddie Gilbert Black Gordman & Goliath vs. Dan Spivey & Mike Rotundo PLUS: A special attraction match as The Magnificent Muraco takes on ANDRE THE GIANT 6. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Brickhouse Brown vs. Bobo Brazil ended in a time limit draw. Brazil hit the Coco Butt in the final 30 seconds but Brown ended up on the arena floor and time ran out before the referee reached the ten count. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- As the final match enters the ring, McLane announces that next week’s main event will be a six man tag team match to preview the Tough Love show: Chris Adams, Harley Race and Jimmy Snuka vs. Nick Bockwinkel, Dory Funk Jr. and NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair. 7. One fall non-title match with TV time remaining: NWA Missouri Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkel (w/Bobby Heenan) pinned Keith Larsen in 2:42 after reversing an inside cradle into one of his own. After the match, Bockwinkel joins McLane at the interview area. Bockwinkel says it is going to be an honor to team with Dory Funk Jr. next week and help put Chris Adams in his place. “His win against me recently was an anomaly that only happens once in a great while. Next week, we prove that to be the case. Mark my words, Chris Adams will never get close to this championship. With that, McLane signs us off.
  19. WWA news The big story is the future of Dick the Bruiser. Bruiser is still the owner of the WWA and is still officially part of the full time roster, but has not been on TV in months. There is a rumor that he might be looking to sell the company, and if he does, my guess is he'd retire because there's no way he'll get a push with that roster. Andre the Giant is coming in for the USA special on 12/18 but likely will not wrestle a full time member of the WWA roster. I'm expecting a shake up in the tag team division. Right now there are about six face tag teams as opposed to three heel teams and that's spreading potential matchups thin. Expect Chris Adams to get a future shot at Ric Flair at a USA special. I'm hearing rumors they want the match 3/17 but unless Adams-Bockwinkel for the Missouri Title is done on TV, I'm not sure they can extend that feud into April.
  20. February 4, 1984 – WWA Superstar Challenge (airing as Wrestling at the Chase) from the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN David McLane opens the show. He says we will see many of the top ten wrestlers in WWA on the card tonight, and he starts by introducing the initial WWA Top 10 rankings: 1. Chris Adams 2. Jimmy Snuka 3. Larry Zbyszko (NWA Midwest Television Champion) 4. Brickhouse Brown 5. Nick Bockwinkel (NWA Missouri Heavyweight Champion) 6. Harley Race 7. Dory Funk Jr. 8. Bobo Brazil 9. Chavo Guerrero (NWA World Tag Team Champion) 10. Mike Rotundo With these ratings coming out, and with number one contender already being scheduled to compete at the Tough Love special on February 18, McLane announces that NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair will defend the title at the Market Square Arena that night against the number two contender Jimmy Snuka. Larry Zbyszko interrupts, saying that he doesn’t know who came up with these ratings, but as Midwest TV Champion he has won more matches than anybody in the WWA and should be first in line for the shot. McLane tells Zbyszko he is already otherwise engaged that evening as he will be defending the TV Title against Bobo Brazil. “Fine, if that’s what it takes to prove I deserve a shot at the World Title, then so be it.” ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- McLane interviews Mike Rotundo, who is with a tall blonde gentleman we haven’t seen on WWA TV before. Rotundo introduces him as Dan Spivey, saying Spivey was an amateur standout at the University of Georgia and he is proud to have him as a partner. Spivey thanks Rotundo for the opportunity and says he looks forward to making his mark in the WWA. 1. One fall with a 15-minute time limit: Mike Rotundo & Dan Spivey defeated Sheik Abdullah & Jerry Valiant when Spivey pinned Abdullah with a bulldog in 1:19. McLane marvels over the raw athletic ability of Spivey. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- 2. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Goliath (w/Black Gordman and Gary Hart) defeated Jerry Grey by submission to a camel clutch in 3:02. McLane interviews Gordman, Goliath and Hart after the match. Hart issues an open challenge to any tag team to face Gordman and Goliath next week. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- 3. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Bobo Brazil pinned Zoltan the Great with a Coco Butt in 3:09. After the match, Brazil goes to the interview area and tells McLane that he is glad to be in the top ten, glad to have an upcoming shot against Larry Zbyszko, but he still has a score to settle with Brickhouse Brown and won’t rest until one of them has left the WWA permanently. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- 4. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Jacques Rougeau (w/Raymond Rougeau) defeated Randy Rose (w/Bobby Heenan and Dennis Condrey) by disqualification in 8:52 when, after Condrey rammed Raymond into the ringpost, he entered the ring and attacked Jacques. The Midnight Express continued to beat on Jacques until Eddie Gilbert and Tony Garea made the save. ---------- COMMERCIAL ---------- Prior to the main event hitting the ring, David McLane runs down the lineup as it stands now for the Tough Love special on February 18: NWA World Heavyweight Title: Jimmy Snuka vs. Ric Flair© NWA Midwest Television Title: Larry Zbyszko© vs. Bobo Brazil Two out of Three Falls: Dory Funk Jr. & Nick Bockwinkel vs. Harley Race & Chris Adams Match 1 of a Best of 3 Series: Randy Rose vs. Tony Garea Match 2 of a Best of 3 Series: Dennis Condrey vs. Eddie Gilbert JUST ANNOUNCED: A special appearance by ANDRE THE GIANT McLane announces the final match is about to hit the ring, but first he announces that The O Zone of Steve O and Jerry Oske have accepted the open challenge of Black Gordman and Goliath for next week. 5. As soon as the ring announcer announced the decision, the show went off the air.
  21. WWA news The upcoming top ten rankings are going to be legit in the sense that it will be using winning percentages to determine the initial rankings, but worked in the sense that they'll be using everybody's rankings since the restructuring of the company in July to prevent someone like Nick Bockwinkel from falling out of the top ten. There's also a rumor that it will not be done weekly as originally announced, but may be done monthly to coincide with the USA specials. They'll also only be including wrestlers on the full time roster, so even though the WWA's deal with Mid-South allows them use Don Muraco whenever he's not booked for Mid-South, don't expect him in the ratings. Dan Spivey is expected to debut on this week's TV and will be getting at least a midcard push. They feel he has a tremendous upside but understand he's green and don't want to push him too hard too fast. Ric Flair will be appearing for the company on February 18 to defend their title on the USA special. Expect his opponent to be announced on TV next week. The Guerreros are being loaned out to other NWA promotions and will be booked similar to Flair.
  22. In regards to retirements: I show Goliath's last match in 1984 being March 9, with his next matches not until 1988. To me, that's a March 1984 retirement, so I'll wrap him up by my March 17 special. His partner, Black Gordman, I have steady results until February 1985, with another match in June before being off until mid-86. Since I know not every result is ever is known, I'd probably classify that as a June 1985 retirement (although I doubt I'll use him without Goliath being available). Everything is open to a reasonable interpretation. Unless there's a year or longer gap and you're still trying to use someone full time, I think we'll be reasonable about it.
  23. Can I add 2/11 for Andre please?
