I've heard of tournaments for cars and money, but this is a new one for me. Oh man, this had the makings of a great angle. Imagine some heel winning the tournament and taking on a new gimmick as a cocky, mink coat-wearing fashionista. And then you could have a virtuous animal-loving babyface splatter the coat with red paint, starting a hot new feud. Now that's money! I wonder who won that tourney. I hope it was the Assassin. I'd love to see him sportin' a mink.

I had no idea Bull did any shows for WWF before '94.

Funny that Dave was down on the Rumble as a match. I was surprised to read that the Rockers were supposed to go to Memphis as heels. Did they ever work heel? I can't really imagine Jannetty playing heel, even though the New Rockers in '96 were booked as heels but didn't do anything particularly heelish at all. Whose idea within WWF was it to bring in the Jumping Bomb Angels? I never really thought about it before, but it seems so oddly un-80's-WWF-like to bring in a joshi tag team, let alone make them faces. The whole card for Bunkhouse Stampede was so lame, and I can't believe that they went on PPV with such a weak lineup. Was Flair-Hawk a hot program? Garfield Portz is a great name. Loss, this is appreciated. I'd love if you made this a regular feature.

3 concussions on 1 ROH show, 2 wrestlers back next night
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
Well, I can't speak for Bix, but I assume he was saying either fuck the wrestlers for being dumb enough to risk brain damage or fuck the promotion for letting them do it (probably both). Yeah, I want to spark a discussion here. Throwing some points for discussion out here, not really opinions. Who else thinks "F*ck those guys"? And if we do presumably say "F*ck those guys" for giving each other concussions, than do we say "F*ck everyone"? Because every wrestler is going to get concussions. People get concussed getting whipped into the turnbuckles. There are lots of people out there who don't wrestle ROH style and are basically screwed concussion wise. Tracy Smothers has big problems from what I hear. Maybe Jerry Lawler's bad memory is due to concussions? I'm certain his ring time didn't help there. What's the answer? What style should people be wrestling? Give an example from the past or present Is ROH too over the top? Do their wrestlers need to be trained better or differently? What about Japan or old Stampede wrestling? Too rough? Well yeah, concussions are a part of the game, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a wrestler who has never had one. The point is that they wrestled THE NIGHT AFTER getting concussions, which is just plain dumb. -

I'm confused as to why WWE would plant the Fragile X story. In what way would planting the story make them look better?

Doesn't the first failure only get you a warning? Besides which, if he had a prescription for whatever he was taking, he's fine under the policy. I don't believe the names of the drugs he was getting from Signature were ever released, actually.

Kenta Kobashi is back from cancer
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Resident Evil's topic in Megathread archive
Well by some token you could say nobody truly knows about Scott Steiner and roids besides guesswork, but COME ON. I mean, WP, you're into bodybuilding. You should be able to spot a guy who's bigger that a person can naturally get. -
Kenta Kobashi is back from cancer
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Resident Evil's topic in Megathread archive
I know we're getting off topic from Kobashi here, but since it concerns injuries, am I the only one who thinks JBL getting back in the ring is a really bad idea and that his back is going to start acting up real quick after his return and will most likely force him back into retirement some time before the end of 2008? -

The greatest cons in wrestling history
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
Well you have to take into account some other factors, some of which might support your argument and others which might not: - Sure Shawn got "main event money", but nothing compared to what he could have made main-eventing against Austin. You don't think he would have come back in '99 or 2000 when business was super-hot to get a big pay-off? - He did do one match in 2000, against Paul Diamond for the indy promotion he was running at the time. - If I remember correctly, he was supposed to have his return match at Backlash '01 (his interference in the Taker-HHH match at WM would have led to this), but his pilled-up backstage behavior at Raw the week before Mania ruined that) - He still only worked a very limited schedule for the first year or so that he was back. Not saying that you are right or wrong, just a few things to consider. -
WON awards front-runners for the first half of the year

It should be noted that the 2.8 was the night Cena wasn't there because he was on Larry King. I have to think his absence played a big part in the drop (and yes I know he did a via satellite interview that night but who wanted to see that?). -

No gay man since the days of Rickie Vasquez on My So-Called Life would be fashion-impaired enough to wear that vest.

I don't think CNN and the media really are that into wrestling that they would strongly differentiate between top stars and guys on the lower rung. I'm sure if someone gave them two choices - bust a top star like Cena or HHH or bust a lesser-known star like Harry they would choose the first option, but this is the kind of dirt CNN would have loved to have had in their documentary, especially since Bulldog was mentioned in it.

Benoit brain examination findings to be released tomorrow
Boondocks Kernoodle replied to Bix's topic in WWE
It was an updated version of the 2003 piece. They basically just went over the Benoit stuff, everything you've heard, the drugs, tough lifestyle, concussions (that issue got all of one sentence). They had a new interview with Bagwell, talking about how tough the business is and all that. They showed footage of him working a small indy show. He talked about how he still needs painkillers to make it through the day. When asked why he doesn't just give it up, he says it's all he has. They also showed interviews from the '03 segment with Vince, the Patriot, and Teddy Hart. They mentioned the wellness policy and the suspensions. It was nothing special. -

He was on the "History of Raw" special WWE did 2 years ago when they moved back to USA. -
Last I checked, wrestling wasn't a real sport. That doesn't mean Flair should get a last big run. But if there was a situation in which a 58-year-old guy getting a big push was the best option, well, you can't put your foot down and say "No, doesn't matter, he's too old". Because it's wrestling.
