  1. I'd like to think WWE would be a little smarter than to start their biggest angle in years via a small-time article in the British press, STAN.
  2. He's just towing the company line. I'm sure Vince, HHH and Stephanie, as well as a number of wrestlers, feel the same way. Even if they're wrong.
  3. Actually a quick trip to Cawthon's site tells me both One Night Stand shows drew around 2500.
  4. Well, Hammerstein always did good business for deathbed ECW. Of course they had national TV when they did their first show there and they were always more popular than ROH. Isn't Hammerstein more than twice the size of the "Grand Ballroom" or whatever the other room is called? The old Raw tapings at the Manhattan Center used to draw around 1000 and when I saw Guns N' Roses at Hammerstein a couple of years ago there were like 3800. Of course there would be different configurations for concerts and wrestling shows, but still.
  5. Oh Bam Bam.
  6. OFFENSIVE. I see no problem with Taker's new move. I'm sure it doesn't pop the crowd like the tombstone. But you know, it's gotta hurt those knees to fall on them while holding 200-300 pound guys every match. I don't blame Taker for adopting a new finish that isn't so rough on his body.
  7. I think the second part is the one that should be bolded there.
  8. It's the "Three Stages of Hell" match from Armageddon 2002.
  9. Their current level apparently isn't making them much money, what with the cutbacks they're supposedly making.
  10. It was actually Steve Beverly himself who was responsible for this. He had the ear of someone at TBS and he told them that the Saturday night show should only have one host. So Ross was kept, Tony was removed from that spot and he left the promotion for a time. Then, in an interesting post-script, Beverly was someone's phone-a-friend on Who Wants to be a Millionaire 12 years later and gave him the wrong answer, and Schiavone totally sonned him on commentary on Nitro. It was all in East Coast J's WCW Observer Quotes thing on DVDVR.

  12. Just a thought, but I really wish WCW hadn't stopped doing the Crockett Cup. The whole 1-night (or two nights I guess) tag team tournament is a really cool idea and I would have been great to see that every year in WCW. I guess the closest somewhat modern equivalent I can remember would be the 2000 ECW tag title tournament, but I would have loved to see such a tourney in 90s WCW, particularly '92 (and the NWA tournament doesn't count since that used too much outside talent and didn't span the whole roster). It would work in today's WWE too. Imagine a one-week tag tournament spanning Raw, SD and ECW with everyone from Cena, HHH, Undertaker, Michaels, Edge, and Orton to the Hardys, Punk, Big Daddy V and Khali down to Jesse and Festus, whatever they're calling the Majors brothers now and Collin Delaney (with whom I'm sure they'd do a comedy spot of someone getting stuck with him as a partner). That shit would rule.
  13. He was in WCW in early-mid'90. Then he reappeared, I think, at the Clash in September '91 coming out of one of Luger's boxes to attack Sting. I'm not sure of the timeline exactly but he did the UWF stuff in between that. And then he returned for the company's final show, Blackjack Brawl, just five days after his last WCW match. Did you know Abrams' UWF only did 21 shows? And yet the legacy still lives on today.
  14. I believe he was the legit son of Curtis, not to be confused with Mike "Prince Iaukea" Haynes.
  15. Ugh, the extreme beret.
  16. So is Starrcade '89 the only face Ric-heel Lex match on record?
  17. Lesbians? Not joking, I think that really could have been a factor. Whenever I doubt Vince's promotional skill, I just think: He made Chyna into a sex symbol. He made people want to see her naked. That is amazing.
  18. Too bad there's no more room for a "People in all forms of entertainment do steroids, so why single out wrestling?" bingo card.
  19. If Al Keiper doesn't let all the scandal and sleaze in wrestling affect his enjoyment of it, that's fine, but why does he feel the need to defend WWE and downplay the significance of wrestling's drig problems whenever the subject is brought up here or at TSM?
  20. Whether Dave knew about his amputation or not, it was well-known that Kerry's leg was seriously messed up from his accident.
  21. Big Show doesn't come cheap. That's money they could be spending on Sid!
  22. This has to be on tape somewhere. Sounds great. Well here is the debut of Big Benjamin Bader: http://youtube.com/watch?v=uSI5aQIHFQo
  23. I imagine one of the reasons WWE doesn't like the idea is because of all the floor space the dual-ring setup would eat up, thus robbing them of hundreds of ticket sales.
