Yoshida wakes me up with the surprise dive to the floor on an unsuspecting Toyota, but beyond that, I wasn't getting much from this. I do get more from Yoshida vs Hasegawa than I do Toyota vs Inoue, but I admit that's probably because it's a fresher pairing for me. Okay match, but nothing I'll remember.

The match where Scott Keith pulled some statement out of his ass that this was ****1/2 and a great example of "improvising a match with five minutes notice", or whatever he said. No clue where he even got that, or if he just made it up like he does most other things he said. This needed to go on the yearbook, as it has developed a little bit of a reputation based on that, but this is an incredibly long, boring match. Muta never put out in the U.S. after the '89 run. Ross and Rachtmann seem aware that Muta is holding back and try to cover for it. The last 30 seconds of the first fall see some action and are sort of fun, but everything else in the first fall is throwaway material. The second fall is a little better, but not really up the potential of what these guys could do if Muta was coming to work. I'm not sure why I included this on the old DVD club disc.

Rikki Rachtmann years before his Nitro gig. This was around the time they were trying to push Arn as an interim challenger for Sting on top between the Rude and Vader feuds, which is a bit of forgotten history. It's Arn Anderson, it's always a strong promo.

Really good match. This would make an interesting comp to the Rude/Pillman match earlier on the yearbook. This one gets a few extra minutes and is probably slightly better at getting over the big picture stuff -- Dustin had Rude's number, Dustin got screwed. The Pillman match is less formulaic than this. I wouldn't say that babyfaces doing camel clutches on Rude ending up in a low blow or Rude unable to do his hip swivel because of lower back pain were tired spots at this point, but they were definitely spots anyone who had seen a significant number of Rude matches could easily call in advance. But there are moments of brilliance here, particularly the way they build the heat to a fever pitch with the tombstone reversal spot and really great nearfall. Both are excellent matches, and both are at about the same level. I could see someone going either way on which they prefer between the two.

"What would Tim Horner even do with $5,000? Buddy Landell at least has a track record of spending his money wisely." -- Dutch Mantell Good action, but disappointing heat. Horner wins and gets his money back after being screwed at the battle royal in some messed up logic but Landell isn't done. He attacks Horner after the match and tears up the check and stuffs it in Horner's mouth, which redeems this whole segment somewhat.

Last few minutes. We see Buddy Landell (making his first appearance on a yearbook) throw powder in Horner's eyes and the remaining guys start falling quickly. They set up a rematch with Horner and Landell with Landell putting the $5,000 he won in this battle royal on the line in a rematch. Landell does a fun promo responding to this, saying Horner would have better luck walking through hell with gasoline drawers than messing with him!

DOC 902174. Nailz debuts and attacks Boss Man. Vince at the booth and Boss Man in the ring put this over about as strong as humanly possible. He puts handcuffs behind Boss Man's back, which is pretty wild and chokes him with his nightstick. It is preposterous to me that it takes forever for the Dave Hebner/Rene Goulet types to try to put a stop to this, yet Elizabeth simply walking to ringside at Wrestlemania VIII brings out the whole brigade. This went on way too long.

I don't really care that it's not his news or that he doesn't credit his sources. He's not a journalist, he's a poster at a message board. Asking him to do Cageside Seats-type sourcing when he's not running a web site is not realistic. Everyone knows where the stuff can be found. If not, if you want to know what his source is for something specific, ask him. If he doesn't respond, then that's a different issue. He was a person who dragged it over. Not a big deal.

I always love watching Jumbo play monster to Kikuchi because of the difference in size and card placement. And this match definitely has the typically fun Jumbo/Kikuchi interaction, especially the sleeper. But maybe just to be different, Misawa is the one getting beat up for a while and Kikuchi is the savior of the team. At least for a while. The spot where Misawa gets the hot tag and goes to do his usual punching Jumbo to the floor from the apron spot and Jumbo is prepared is great. You can look at who is in this match and accurately predict who's eating the fall. Really strong match.

The best crowd in the entire history of pro wrestling combined with wrestlers going all out with tons of big moves and great nearfalls makes for a classic match. I agree that it's not the "deepest" match in All Japan, but it may be the most satisfying. Not too much for me really to say because I think the match speaks really well for itself.

I also think HHH is exceptionally petty. Like, even by wrestling standards exceptionally petty. I get annoyed with all the HHHate myself, but is any of it untrue?

Yes, and this is bottom of the bottom for the Birds. It is kinda funny to see Eric Bischoff blown off as nobody important though.

This is a good match, but I think it's been a little overhyped. They're given lots of time and there is some definite good stuff that I really liked, but it's also really one-sided. Heel in peril definitely applies to this match because 80% of this is the heel side taking bumps for the babyfaces. As a result, this never built heat like it could have and should have. The positives were things I really, really liked, but there just wasn't enough focus on them. Steamboat getting his face worked over with Arn pulling off his nose tape and punching him was tremendous. I thought Eaton looked really good too, and the storyline with Zbyszko was furthered. I do sort of wish though that Eaton, who while he looked good was probably still injured at this point, could have been subbed for Austin, and Koloff could have been subbed for Windham. I'm sure that would have made for an even better match. It just seems like this match never gets going. The first 10 minutes of a 20 minute MX match are usually the MX being embarrassed and putting shine on the babyfaces. Here, that is pretty much the whole match and the heels don't get a lot of heat put on them. I think that's what keeps this from hitting the next level, even if there is some really, really good stuff going on at times.

I'm not sure WCW was quite ready to execute all of these ideas. You'll see what I mean when you watch this. DDP reveals that Paul E. paid off the bimbos to pretend they were having an affair with Steamboat. Steamboat's music starts playing at Center Stage and the DA surrounds Paul E. Steamboat LEAPS OVER THEM and tears off Paul E.'s pants and the other babyfaces come in to even the sides and hold the DA at bay. Once they got past DDP and to the action, this was pretty good.

Finish only. Gilbert gets involved, tripping Pritchard at the finish, ensuring that he has to leave the USWA based on match stips. Wherever will he go? After the match, we get the return of BILLY TRAVIS. He says he's had more ring time than Christopher has had shower time and sets off a brawl. NOW I know where the Undertaker got that line.
-
Gilbert is outstanding. I like him with the Ric Flair look (since even Ric Flair doesn't have the Ric Flair look in 1992) doing great heel promos.

Famous interview. Warrior is doing a promo and ooze starts falling down his face. I don't care what anyone says, this stuff is awesome.
-
Flair and Perfect are at a picnic with his boombox playing his theme music and a random woman. O ... kay. They play a tape of Liz saying when Flair gets home she is going to give him an extra special homecoming. The highlight is we now know what Ric Flair's answering machine message sounds like, and it's funny. Perfect says Savage got the cow, but Flair got the milk for free. Flair says she ain't comin' back, but the belt is.

Recap of the Warrior/Shango angle from last week. Extra footage is shown of Warrior vomiting. Charles Wright is obviously a guy Vince really, really wanted to be a star because he got tons and tons of chances over a long period of time.
