I like Orton. What sold me was the TV match with Rey last year on Smackdown, which was my favorite free TV match of 2006. It's not even that Orton has changed that much about his style compared to his earlier days, but he's certainly learned how to make it mean more. It'll be fun to see him continue to improve.

DVD #1 of Pro Wrestling Only DVD Club Complete
Loss replied to Loss's topic in Sign-Ups and Announcements
Just to update, I am just waiting on a few guys to either pay or let me know if they aren't going to participate this month or exactly what's going on. Once I know who is (and who isn't) part of the first month, I can send out the discs. The good news is that I've completed a bonus disc for the first month only of surprise material. So, you guys that are doing this the first month will get two 4-hour DVDs instead of one. -
There are options that would involve PayPal and options that wouldn't require it.

Unfortunately, that match didn't make tape. Jeff Bowdren saw it live in Philly. All of your others will most likely make disc at some point. -
Suggestions for things to include in the future
Loss replied to Loss's topic in Feedback and Suggestions
I will find a way to put every suggestion made on future discs if at all possible, so thanks, and keep 'em coming. Without spoiling too much about the content (yet), the first DVD has stuff from 90s WWF, Mid Atlantic, 80s AJW, early 90s WCW, early 90s AJPW, Mid South, Memphis, early 90s EMLL and World of Sport. The next volume will probably be something to offset that a little featuring more NJPW, maybe some UWF or UWF-i, maybe some Hamada's UWF or Michinoku Pro, some lucha from a different time period, some mid-80s NWA, some AWA, some SMW and a few other things. The third volume would be stuff that wasn't on the first two, and then you'd circle back around. I want to hit on as much variety as possible. -
If you missed out the first time around and would like to do this in the future, please post here. If you have already signed up, it is not necessary to sign up again. Thanks.

Ok, good. I think you did send me that one. I will check. I got some directly from DG as well, so it may be one of those. -

Also suggested by PM that I include the Ding Dongs squash (their debut) with Cornette on commentary. -
The Blue Meanie is married to a woman that once had sexual intercourse with over 40,000 men in one night.

Matt Hardy is shamefully proficient in Microsoft Internet Explorer. Rick Rude posthumously apologizes for appearing on WCW Monday Nitro during a taped episode of RAW. The Lex Express was known to make occasional detours to other organizations without informing anyone.

They can go in this thread.

Stacy Keibler was playfully nicknamed "Chicklet Chest" in high school. Matches in Memphis can only be won by chain or fireball. Terri Runnells' breast implants were originally purchased for her ex-husband. The combined age of all wrestlers who ever headlined a pay-per-view for World Championship Wrestling is 4,372. Andre the Giant was 7'8" and 923 pounds.

World Championship Wrestling ceased to exist after signing Bret Hart to a contract. Bret Hart has never put 150,000 fans in Budokan Hall.

The first DVD is complete! I just need the following people to PM me their e-mail address, name and address if they're still interested. Ultimo smkelly KCook I want to send everything for everyone at the same time, so if I have everyone's information by the end of the week, I should be able to mail next Saturday. You know how 24/7 has factoids that pop up during their show about whoever is in the ring at the time? Well, knowing the guys WWE hates and how everything seems to have a certain WWE agenda, Bix and I came up with a few potential future factoids that we thought were funny. Anyone who wants to add can feel free to do so. Randy Savage would lock Elizabeth in a closet. Lex Luger is famous for the murder of Elizabeth. Bruno Sammartino and Bret Hart have been paid by a pedophile to do 'shoot' interviews where they insult the people who made them millionaires. The Ultimate Warior is rumored to have been a gay prostitute prior to starting his career in sports entertainment. Owen Hart passed away in a tragic accident at Over The Edge '99 and is dearly missed. His wife is a cunt. Hulk Hogan was once sued for raping a woman at The Mall Of America. Jeff Jarrett was once caught with a crackpipe at an airport. Shane Douglas once vomited in the middle of a match while wrestling for a small-time independent promotion. Konnan stole the Max Moon outfit that was paid for by WWE. He is also not a real Mexican. Rob Van Dam and Sabu were stopped for marijuana and anti-manboob pills by state troopers. Chris Kanyon was a middling performer and Pat Patterson is gay, you idiot. Diamond Dallas Page lived next door to former WCW President Eric Bischoff, and they occasionally swapped wives. Buff Bagwell's mother once called in sick for him to WWE. Stacy Keibler has dated many, many, many, many wrestlers. Terry Taylor thought that hiring Public Enemy was a good idea. The Rock had breast reduction surgery in 1999. Dawn Marie is promiscuous. Kurt Angle's physical appearance changed dramatically in his time to WWE, which can be attributed to any number of factors. Chyna began her wrestling career in 1984 as Tom Zenk. Chyna starred in a pornographic film where she was revealed to have a penis. A judge ruled that no man would sexually harass Nicole Bass, regardless of his sexual orientation. Ted Turner no longer has any power. In 1994, the federal government attempted to destroy the reputation of the World Wrestling Federation. The Clinton Administration can reasonably be compared to Al Qaeda. Missy Hyatt was terminated after 3 weeks of employment with WWE for making sexual advances toward Vince McMahon. D-Lo Brown carelessly made Droz a quadriplegic in 1999. Sean O'Haire was obliterated recently after a bar fight. Ole Anderson is the same size as Art Barr, just fat. Goldberg is not actually a UFC fighter. Goldberg was subdued by the considerably smaller Chris Jericho. Jim Cornette was arrested for smashing a former employee's windshield with a baseball bat. The Rock made terroristic threats toward Shawn Michaels in Hawaii in 1985. The TBS studio crowd is roughly the same size of their arena crowds. This show drew 1,000 people to pay to see wrestling at the Louisana Superdome. After wrestling for over 25 years and never selling a single ticket, Triple H opened the doors for Ric Flair to come into WWE as a charity case. WCW drew 300 people to the Pontiac Silverdome, while WWE drew 93,173. Kevin Nash faked a heart attack to get out of his WWF contract in 1996. The Rock prefers to keep his race a secret. The Big Show had a problem losing weight. Paul Heyman used his Jew magic to get New Yorkers to boo Batista. The Scorpion King did only slightly better box office numbers than The Condemned. When you factor in production costs, No Holds Barred was more profitable than Be Cool. Joan Severence and Kelly Carlson are much prettier than Sarah Michelle Gellar. Harley Race was once afraid to fight Vince McMahon. Ron Simmons and Teddy Long were fired from the Turner organization for being black. Jim Cornette and Bret Hart are known friends of a dirtsheet writer from San Jose who fabricates stories for his wrestling newsletter.

Wrestlers that you have discovered or rediscoverd via 24/7
Loss replied to Dylan Waco's topic in Pro Wrestling
No one has ever argued that workrate draws on its own or anything like that, at least that I've seen. I agree that it's all about build. I just think some people take that point of view to mean that good wrestling will turn people away. -

Just wanted to come back to this. I totally agree with it, but someone looking to troll would probably say something like, "That just proves that workrate doesn't draw because the WWF had the big crowds in spite of the bad matches" or some other oddball talking point. The NWA and Mid South having a faster, more physical wrestling style was a benefit to them. Part of their fanbase was fans who enjoyed that style. People did not tune into the WWF because they *weren't* working that style, or because they wanted to see bad matches. People did tune into the WWF because they had larger than life stars. I don't think anyone would deny that's the sort of thing that's going to draw in a way to lead to record gates, mainstream exposure, etc. There seems to be an Internet movement at times with people who look to completely devalue the importance of being good in the ring, almost like they're arguing that fans would rather see a bad match than a good one. It also doesn't mean that the peak of JCP when they were selling out baseball stadiums is any less impressive, even if they weren't the #1 company at the time. No one has ever argued Ric Flair as a bigger draw than Hulk Hogan. But the NWA, even as the #2 promotion, had a really hot 2+ year run until various things happened to screw it up. Common sense, but you see this argument rearing its head at times in strange forms, and it never fails to annoy me. Carry on. -

I remember the night that Juventud Guerrera debuted on Nitro, and Tony and Larry just did this incredible job getting him over. Schiavone had all this information about his background and knew the names of all his moves. Then, Gene Okerlund swoops in after the match and starts yelling at him to speak English and that was the end of that. The worst WCW debut around that time was still Chris Jericho though. Alex Wright gets a groin injury off of a highspot and Jericho has the match stopped because he doesn't want to win that way. He then does an interview after the match saying that he and Alex Wright will defend WCW "with all their heart". There's a perception that babyfaces were wholesome once upon a time, and that's true, but even your classic babyfaces like Ricky Morton and Ricky Steamboat were more aggressive than that. -

Even if they aren't her ideas necessarily, if she's putting people who are equipped to make good decisions in those spots, then she's doing her job. I believe I've read that she's been a big advocate of sticking with John Cena when others were against it. And she was obviously behind the DX reunion, which was nauseating at times but worked. -
Bumping this since Dylan mentioned at DVDVR that *I* said Ricky Morton was weak on the mic. I said no such thing. Note the author.

The response to this has been greater than I expected. Based on that, I feel that this may do best if I try to get the first disc out quickly, so people don't forget about it or stop frequenting the board. I want to do monthly discs in the future, but time isn't going to permit it at first. Still, I think the best option is to get a disc out now rather than waiting, even if it means it takes longer for me to do the second one. So ... I'm closing this thread. I will open a new thread next time we do this so people that didn't participate the first month can do so the second month if they want. In the meantime, everyone who posted here, please PM me the following: Your name Your address Your e-mail address I will then send everyone an e-mail with instructions on where to send payment, how to send, etc. I'll probably set up a special e-mail box for this in the future. I hope to have the disc done maybe over the Memorial Day holiday. I can't promise that, because I will be doing some traveling, but I should be back early enough that I'll have time to do it. Once I have everyone's personal information and payment, I will send out all the discs at the same time. If all goes well, maybe that can happen within the next two weeks. I'm also going to set up a new folder just for the DVD Club. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Well, Stephanie does have her faults, but she appears to have picked up on a few things along the way. She's done a good job protecting John Cena and making him a star, and her team has done a much better job putting together storylines lately, mainly because they've simplified them so much. -
I plan on getting it. Should be a good read.
