Well, that was a tremendous tag match. It's a notch or two below the best tag league finals, but this built a finish so great, with Kobashi pulling off the miracle. I loved all the focus on Vader's striking and how they managed to further Vader-Kobashi as an issue while still giving Kobashi and Akiyama the victory. This wasn't a headdropping special at all, it was guys slugging it out and a big underdog narrative. I'm surprised to see Hansen in something so good so late.

I've read before that it was more that they just left themselves open during exchanges so they could be more back-and-forth. This is supposedly why some of the great workers have trouble transitioning well to shoots. Because instinctively, they leave themselves open.

I've always been partial to SuperBrawl II. A strong Liger-Pillman match, an even better Austin/Zbyszko vs Windham/Rhodes tag, Rude/Steamboat and Eaton/Arn vs Steiners is quite the 4-match punch.

There are times when these guys show their inexperience, but overall, it's pretty awesome that these guys look so polished despite not really working on a big stage yet. The Hardys were somewhat traveled, but Shane Helms is much better than I would expect at this stage. The Hardys would retool their act in a way that worked better on a national stage. Jeff was better as the hot tag guy since he had so many over highspots. Matt was a better seller so he was a better face in peril. In this one, they hadn't figured that out yet, and the Thrillaz got the heat on Jeff. Still, Jeff was good in his role and Matt worked the apron well too. I don't think this was a great match, but it was very good, and it's their 1/99 match that gets the most praise anyway. The more important takeaway was that it showed that these guys had promise.

I still love that WCW created a women's cruiserweight title that ended up staying in GAEA. I wonder how the WCW/GAEA relationship came about in the first place anyway.

These seem passe by late 1998. Chris Chetti's promo is almost inaudible. Tommy Rogers is there! He should not talk but he's there! They keep talking about how Taz "broke the wrestler's code" by intentionally taking out Sabu. Jesus Christ! The Dudley Boys attack him to close out the segment.

[1998-11-30-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin, Kane and Paul Bearer
Loss replied to Loss's topic in November 1998
Kane ends up finding Undertaker and brawling with him in the back. They put Kane in a bodybag when Austin comes from behind and pelts Undertaker with a shovel, even knocking the end of it off completely. After a break, Kane and Austin drag Paul Bearer to the ring. They tease that they are about to douse Paul Bearer in gasoline and Austin starts cutting his shirt open. Austin teases stabbing Paul in the stomach with a pair of scissors. They end up dragging him outside the building and tease throwing him in a sewer. They actually throw him in and seal it shut! What an awful, awful, awful segment. This iteration of the feud has been the worst thing all year, even worse than any of the WCW feuds. -
Didn't the Rock & Rolls come back to work the feud with Savage and Poffo in mid-1984? They also came back early in 1985, right?

Mankind is accompanied to the ring by the Job Squad for some reason. Shawn sends them packing, then does color commentary. Shawn holds up scorecards after a few of the spots, which is pretty funny, but he shits on the match. Not that the match is any good, as Boss Man is gone by this point. Crowd is dead until Mankind pulls out Mr. Socko, and the action is pretty pedestrian. Rock runs in and pushes Mankind off the ladder. He tries to help Boss Man win the match but Mick makes his own save. Rock has no kneepads on which looks kind of odd. Boss Man wins the Hardcore Title. Shawn joins Rock and Boss Man in getting in a few shots on Foley to close things out.

X-Pac is out to confront Shawn Michaels. He says he's going to beat Shawn's ass. Shawn is slapping hands and acting like a babyface in his intro, which makes no sense. Shawn tells Pac he's had chunks of guys bigger than him in his stool. He says if he even looks at Shawn the wrong way, he'll send him down to "that money pit in Atlanta" so fast his head will spin. He makes an X-Pac-Shamrock match for the European title tonight but never really explains why he turned the week before. Shawn pretty firmly put him in his place.

Mark Henry is all dressed up for his date with D-Lo there for moral support. He wants D-Lo to accompany him on the date. Henry has purchased a blazer for D-Lo to dress him up and also got him a new pair of sunglasses. He wraps it up with a driver's hat and suddenly D-Lo realizes what is happening and is not happy about it. In the next segment, Chyna shows up at the hotel and just wants to get this over with. Then Henry gives Chyna flowers but left the price tag ($1.99) on. They end up in the restaurant and Chyna seems annoyed while Henry tries to be romantic. She warms up to him a little when they get on the dance floor and dance to "Brick House", but is still pretty guarded. Mark walks away for a second when three guys come up and start putting the moves on Chyna and their attention is clearly unwanted. One of the guys calls her a bitch and she punches him and Henry takes out the other two guys. This actually sort of worked in the end, even if there were too many segments.

Austin walks with purpose to the ring holding a shovel. The ICP and Headbangers eat stunners since they happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Short promo with Austin saying he doesn't want to wait to get his hands on Undertaker at Rock Bottom. He wants him tonight.

After the commercial break, Goldberg runs outside and brawls with Bigelow in the parking lot. Good stuff. This is much hotter than Goldberg-Nash with Nash's funny faces.

[1998-11-30-WCW-Nitro] Contract Signing: Goldberg vs Kevin Nash
Loss replied to Loss's topic in November 1998
Bam Bam Bigelow is at ringside. Goldberg has to stand in the ring to wait on Nash, which is a questionable decision. Goldberg will not defend the title between now and Starrcade. Nash looks like an idiot with the funny faces and brings this down. Bigelow jumps the railing but is held back by security.- 5 replies

Bischoff decides that what the world needs now is another hero, making clear his disagreement with the lyrics to Tina Turner's hit song from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. He calls out Dean Malenko. If Malenko can beat Barry Windham, then Flair vs Bischoff will happen. Dean accepts before Bischoff adds another clause - the special referee will be Dusty Rhodes! Oh man, I wish we'd showed the finish of that match now that I remember it, as Dusty ends up swerving Bischoff and turning babyface.

Jericho was fired up here yet again! This was a surprisingly good match. He has told the story before of how he argued with Bischoff right before this match about his contract and how he was being used, and he was angry and came out and put it all out there in this match. Konnan wins the TV title because Kevin Nash is booking and is a guy who hooks up his friends. This was the end of Jericho's push in WCW and we won't see a lot of him even in 1999 for a few months.

Clip of Hogan on Leno announcing his retirement from wrestling and saying he plans to run for President of the United States. We need an honest American, which is hilarious coming from Hulk. He loves burying Jesse Ventura in these, calling him a "little teeny minnow in a big pond" here and comparing his popularity to Jesse's. Hogan talks tax policy and Saddam Hussein with a straight face.

Arn Anderson accompanies Benoit and Malenko to ringside and even brings out Ric Flair as a surprise before the match to present Brian Hildebrand with a replica Big Gold Belt. Eddy and Jericho heel it up big time, tearing into Brian at ringside, who supposedly loved it. This is a unique match for 1998, as none of these guys really got this much time all that often. Jericho and Eddy make an excellent heel team. I thought Jericho was fired up enough that he was on par with Benoit and Eddy for this one. Check out that chop battle with Benoit that ends with Jericho poking the guy in the eye. Malenko just couldn't match the intensity of the other three, but he hugged the apron for most of this anyway. I really loved this. I think it could have been even better if either team had more doubleteam moves, although we saw a little of that at times. But I suppose that's not a big issue since the Benoit-Malenko team was fairly new and Jericho and Eddy weren't teaming regularly. Beautiful finish with both heels tapping and Brian Hildebrand running in to ring the bell. Had this happened on pay-per-view or even television, it would be remembered as an all-time classic. The plus side to the handheld filming is that there's no obnoxious WCW commentary to not put it over properly.

[1998-11-29-WWF-Sunday Night Heat] Interview: Steve Austin
Loss replied to Loss's topic in November 1998
Austin has been given a 24-hour cooling off period, which is a nice way to save his reaction to what happened last week for RAW. -
Taz does a promo by phone that's obviously pre-recorded. I think it might have come off better if he was interacting with Styles, although maybe not since I'm not sure Styles could carry that.
