Were the Death of the Territories in the 80s Inevitable?
Bix replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
I thought it was the other way around, that Dusty was brought in off the Florida TV's popularity in NY. -

Right, I know that. I'm asking who actually controlled the time slot. -

The Funks vs Sheik/Abby show is the one with the "robbery with the box office" that led to outside names no longer coming in, isn't it? -
Were the Death of the Territories in the 80s Inevitable?

For all intents and purposes, wasn't that a WWF show? Or was it a completely independent deal where Graham just gave up the local promo time to Vince since he had no use for it? Also, at the time of the expansion, that station (WNJU) didn't just show CWF, it was also carrying the same WWF syndicated shows that were airing on WWOR. -

1. Watts wasn't an NWA member, CWF was closer geographically, CWF shared talent with the Georgia office regularly.2. Knoxville was dead too for years. The promotional war between the Fullers and All-Star wrestling killed it (I forget exactly how...paging Zellner) circa '79 and it was (usually) promoted by outside offices until Fuller came back in '84. And that's a great wrestling town with no "real" sports franchises of note. -
On WWF TV, it was a match that was taking place all over the country. Both Hogan and Flair talked about it, not just with local promos, but also in features on the shows. There was that "I acknowledge you" promo by Hogan, and a number of ones by Flair. They just never had a match on TV or PPV, discounting the MSG pair that aired on the MSG Network. I will adjust for this. Yo Bix—this is why I send these things to you first. I thought it was a fair simplification in the sense that Hogan was working in less and less markets back then. With no SNME it wasn't blown off to most people.

I totally forgot this happened. It gets worse a few weeks later.

Something more than a cosmetic difference? The only thing they did with the six sided ring was make it difficult for the ex-WWE guys to run the ropes. Also: WTF. Good for him to get a job and all, but what's the point of the mask if he's cutting promos without it? I get the alter-ego thing ala Cactus Jack and Mankind, but they're doing it really poorly. From the promo it seems like the idea is closer to The Patriot's WWF run. "This is Del Wilkes, but he wrestles as The Patriot because the mask is a symbol of blah blah blah..."

It's less that Matt Morgan was any good and more that he was someone with potential who was called up in the stupidest way possible. I will never say anything bad about those weird last runs for the OVW guys. Basham vs Jindrak and THE CON MAN FTW. I know I haven't been updating the thread, just follow me on Twitter or something.

Would Steve Austin be looked at like HHH with longer time?

How is that match a squash? -
Sid Waddell's Wrestling Show, it had old ITV/World of Sport matches: http://www.espnclassic.com/gb/ecuk/sports-...onal-wrestling/

No, if something is airing on one country's version of ESPN Classic, never assume it's airing on another country's ESPN Classic. The American, Canadian, and British channels have all aired different wrestling shows.

P.J. Friedman's entire career makes a lot more sense when you find out his dad is a ridiculously influential toy executive. Why else would a guy with no physique and little talent be in developmental while he's pushing 40? Also, we all owe Court Bauer an apology... Not really, they wanted good hands who could do jobs on TV (so the young guys wouldn't have to) but wouldn't be "jobbers."

Did some digging and slightly_twiztid (or however you spell it) at CMax has some. SMWFAN is probably worth asking, too. Tim has this w/ the OMEGA guys: DVD 587-MUSIC CITY WRESTLING TV 7/18—7/24/98 (1:59) GD QUAL. Preview this Nashville-based promotion as it's invaded by 3 of the OMEGA boys (7/18 TV)--Tennessee Volz (Dunn & Riggins) juice open 3 guys/Black Sheep (Wolfie & Flash) squash/Recon attacks Colorado Kid/Chirs Michaels attacks Shane Eden & puts make-up on him/Kid Dynamo vs. Willow the Whisp/Billy Black vs. Rex King brawl/Volz vs. Sheep brawl//(7/24 TV)--Hardy Boys squash/Brian Keyes appears as Lance Erickson/ continuation of feuds

Erik Watts started in the WWF about 6 months before his dad.

Not even Steve or Jeff?

If they paid for his recovery is it really scummy at all? If you say he'll always have a job in the company then yes, it is.

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad
Bix replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
Didn't see this until now. He also added this in the comments when somebody linked this thread: I dunno if I should email him or ignore him or what, but I remember it basically being what he said, only from my side. And for the record, the reason I started this thread was that I found the Elizabeth stuff in that book legitimately offensive, on top of the continued "SUNNY IS A CRACKWHORE!" type of stuff. I don't pretend I never wrote anything like the latter (and there's one person in particular I obviously feel like an ass for writing similarly juvenile stuff about), but I regret it deeply. And even then, I don't think I ever took it further than "LOL amusing anecdote" type message board posts, while Scott was a writer with a following who knew he was seen as an authority. -
Dave basically confirmed this on the latest WOR Sin Limite show. Also said something caused Paige to lose favor this week.
