I assume that you have never read this: http://pwchronicle.blogspot.com/2006/01/an...our-groups.html

Yeah, I don't think Tim's quote was to be taken literally and in fact he was pointing that out on the first line of his message.

I hope that during this week somebody realises that the Los Matadores gimmick is a total jobber gimmick and that it ends up being Cody and Dustin under the masks.

Really? I could be in a minority here but I think that Stephanie is a terrible actress, even in the realm of the generally terrible pro-wrestling acting. Hunter is great in this role though.

I can't see anything other than big time attitude era and beyond Wrestlemania matches having anything close to universal appeal. Many Americans think that Lucha looks coreographed, and some Japanese that it looks weak. Mexican fans think that 80s American wrestling and 90s Japanese heavyweight wrestling is way too slow, and in the case of Japan, colorless. There are many other cliches like that, even among superfans of one country or style. WWE seems to be the only thing that gets appreciated even by the Mexican and Japanese.

Am I the only one who thinks that Dusty and Flair are slowly morphing into the same person? -
It's such a blessing that we have a list obsessed person like you on this board Loss (I know that while you are working on this you are always working on other non-wrestling related lists). I believe that you are the only person I know who I can see organizing humongous collections of media like this. Not to disrupt the thread, but are these DVD collections, or just stuff from your thousands of discs that you are watching in order? (Sorry if I missed the explanation somewhere)

Court Baurer shared the same anecdote about Dave on his Baurer & Pollock podcast this morning. Dave sent him his ballot in response to a years old email when Court was still in WWE. Court offered the pro-tip of bombarding Dave with (news tip) emails during this season if you want a decent chance in receiving a ballot. My ballot came as a reply to an email I had sent him years earlier about UFC fighter Tim Kennedy. I'm dying over here. My ballot was a reply to an email I sent him titled "NWA Houston Parade of Champions". That was months ago and not the last email i've sent him. Odd. Mine was a reply to an email asking him and Bryan about the "demon voice" at UFC 159. Re: French roller derby I think that I win.

There's a guy I saw a few times shopping at the supermarket on Saturday mornings after I stayed over at a lady friend's house in North London several years ago. I was pretty sure that was Cas Martin but I didn't realize it at the time and I never saw him again so never got around to ask him. I told this story to a British historian friend some time ago and he told me that he indeed lived in North London with his wife who is either German or Austrian. I think Dave "The Butcher" Bond also lived there before he died. I believe that Martin wrestled in the first or second UWF, I'm wondering if there's any footage of him there and how good is it.

Dammit FLIK you are a big dude. Sarge is looking alright, hadn't seen him in years so if you had asked me I'd have guessed that he'd look bloated and unhealthy like a lot of ex-WWF 80s wrestlers. -
I have never voted for somebody to keep him on the ballot because I always ended up voting for more people than I initially thought. However, I have voted for people that need the support more than other names that I consider stronger candidates. But I have never voted for anyone that I didn't consider a true HOF'er at the time that I voted.

Hey Dylan, I don't want to go through 100 posts so it would be awesome if you linked me to two or three Patera posts that you have written that I should read. Patera is a guy that I only saw at the tail end of his career. Koloff is a guy I was kind of considering but right now the "he doesn't belong" crowd is making better arguments in my view. That's a great example of a guy that on gut feeling should be in but there's probably a reason why he hasn't made it for so long. I guess Pedro is a similar example. Where can I read on Stanley Weston? I know Apter is a no for me, but I want to know more about Weston.
-
Okerlund I could see. You are absolutely right. I don't know if he was such a hot commodity when he jumped to WCW, but I agree with your arguments. I don't see right now the role of an interviewer as being sufficient. It's the same problem I have with Apter or Weston. IMO Valente Perez of Lucha Libre has got a much stronger case. He literally created Tinieblas, Cien Caras, Canek, Dos Caras and Mil Mascaras as characters, among others. He had a much more tangible impact on the business than the American magazines. Three of his creations are unarguable WON HOF'ers, to me Cien Caras is a WON HOF worthy wrestler and Tinieblas can't be disputed as a Mexican-only HOF'er. Ventura, though, would be different but he doesn't have the longevity that I think you need in that role. A commentator or colour man is (or should I say used to be) a key person in getting you to buy tickets or PPV's. I can see Lance Russell, Jim Ross, Alfonso Morales, but not Ventura, as funny and smart as he was. His political career doesn't mean anything to me when talking about the WON HOF (you didn't bring it up Jerry, but most people who vouch for him end up doing so).

This is what my ballot looks like today. Carlos Colon Big Daddy Ivan Koloff Enrique Torres Cien Caras Karloff Lagarde Blue Panther Villano III Dr Wagner Sr. Atlantis (*) (*) I could easily drop Atlantis off the ballot and vote for him next year if I can be convinced that somebody else is more worthy. I think he's the most worthy candidate in Mexico other than Cien and Villano and I think that he'll have it easier in the long run and the others need the help now. I think that other than dying and people realising suddenly how awesome he was (and fuck hopefully this never happens and he wrestles while he's happy to do so), Blue Panther isn't probably going to have a much stronger case in 1, 2 or 5 years. I don't know if I will vote for non-wrestlers. Other than Matsunaga and Jarrett nobody looks too appealing to me. I need to think about these.

They did hire Eaton as a trainer for what I think was still OVW at the time, but it was short lived because he apparently couldn't really teach it to someone else. Barry also had a very short run as a road agent. Not sure why Ricky Morton has never had a chance as a trainer or anything. They hired Dennis Condrey as a trainer in 2010 but I don't know if he's still there. Hey goc, thanks, that's interesting, I had no idea as until early this year I hadn't been following wrestling closely for a very long time. Hiring Condrey but not Morton or even Gibson seems odd. Funny how this works. Eaton can't teach but apparently Billy Gunn is a fantastic trainer.

Ryan, I thought about Hamada too, but he main evented semi-regularly at El Toreo and perhaps Palacio de los Deportes from 75 to maybe 79 or 80, usually feuding with Perro Aguayo or Rene Guajardo. He main evented more often at smaller arenas. He was a regular main event opponent of Aguayo, Fishman, Canek and others later on until he left for Japan in the mid 80s and semi-retired to train women wrestlers. So he was on top of cards for enough time and with enough different opponents to be considered a true major league main eventer. I'm not counting Michinoku or Universal as those two were obviously minor promotions.

Some names to consider Black Terry HERODES~ Solar Espanto Jr. Javier Monarca Cruz Americo Rocca

It could be. I don't know because my mindset is pretty much removed from the WWE superfan mindset, but I believe the SNME match has gotten a lot more play on Comps/DVD's/Classics on Demand.
-
I think that in the current WWE it's a very underrated "skill" (not sure how to call it) for NWA guys to have some kind of WWF mythology legendary matches/feuds/gimmick. Steamboat has got Wrestlemania III, Dusty has got the polka dots, Arn has got the SNME match vs Rockers. Barry Windham, on the other hand, is just a dude that is on the WWE HOF because Ole Anderson is an insufferable douchebag that nobody likes. Nobody remembers Magnum T.A. I'm pretty sure that with a WWF run, as shitty as it may have been, Bobby Eaton would be a super respected agent nowadays. Probably Ricky Morton too. I'm sure there are more cases like that. Those names are all pretty worthless on the WWE Universe, much further down the legends chain than Tito Santana or Chavo Guerrero, just to mention two random names.
-
Yeah it's weird to see Arn mentioned. Tully I understand because he fucked up, but I don't think Arn's career would have been any different if he had not jumped. And probably it benefited him in the long run because if you ask your average "smart fan" (not sure if that makes sense, but I just mean the normal WWF/WWE/NWA/WCW superfans who have been watching forever but are not the kind of people that post on this board) to mention five classic Arn matches pretty sure the Rockers match from SNME is going to be one of them.

Hahaha I remember that now. So, people, when your life looks like it's a bit shit and it can't get any worse, remember that there's somebody in Crazy Max who tried to get "himself over" by doing that. -

I am more interested in wrestling in Guatemala actually. I have a few lucha libre mags from there somewhere in my parents' house. Gimmicks seemed to be very wacky, in the vein of Titanes or Super Muneco from Mexico: they had a fake Parka, clowns, etc. Style is similar to the Mexican style but they didn't seem to use dives and didn't do trios matches as often. To my knowledge there's only a tape around which was actually my tape that was converted to DVD by Bob Barnett. I got it from Kurt Brown who got it from an old historian whose name I can't recall now, who I used to know and has got this massive collection of old and rare tapes but he's not into trading (he's a memorabilia guy) so he doesn't even know what he's got. If you have never seen Jorge Mendoza check this out. This is from 1991 if I recall correctly. -

Somebody may remember the exact details but back when I was into DVD trading (so we are talking 2007 or earlier) I think there was somebody who had the complete Jack Veneno vs Ric Flair match but didn't want to release it for reasons I can't remember. Apparently the match was replayed even decades after the fact. This youtube channel seems to have a little bit of footage, not sure how good this is or isn't. Most of it seems to be IWA Japan mid 90s though. http://www.youtube.com/user/luchalibreboxeoymma/videos -

Bastien is an interesting name. I read his bio recently and I'd vote for him if I knew more. What's so positive about the CAC? This is an honest question. I know about it as a place for older dudes to meet with old colleagues and fans. I vaguely recall them collecting money for injured/destitute wrestlers but can't remember any specifics. He also gets points for the most creative promoter payoff scam ever (most of you know this already, but for those that don't, he gave lucha wrestlers checks that could be cashed by "Pirata Morgan" or "Superboy" instead of their real names).
