  1. How did Generico/Steen compare to something like the really great Crazy/Tajiri Mexican Death Matches?
  2. What are the odds that Strong/Richards won't be Res Evil's MOTY?
  3. Raven really was a terrible fucking performer on just about every level. In a promotion known for brawling and workrate style matches he wasn't good at either and his matches were always riddled with overbooking and needless bullshit.
  4. Scorp/Bags were clearly the best team of the bunch. They had the best Blondes match ever, the good match v. Eaton/Arn from Slamboree, a fun series with the Nasty's and probably some other shit I'm forgetting.
  5. Bossman is pretty easily a better WON HoF contender than Angle
  6. Will hit back with more later but the last ride of the midnights at hh90 is sort of a below the radar must both for match quality and importance.
  7. Yeah the argument was always "Angle couldn't have a good match with Henry, when Taker and Rey did." This is not surprising as Angle has been in a variety of disappointing matches with guys who one of "the best ever" (as he has often been called) should be having all time classics with. I think Angle peaked in 01 myself. Also should say that "Henry was in a few good matches" is not entirely what the pro-Henry side was saying. In fact I think Henry was really good in 06 and 08 in particular.
  8. Henry had four of five great matches on SD with Rey that year. His series with Taker was good too. Actually his worst match of the year was with Kurt which isn't surprising as Kurt wasn't about to alter his style to work to Henry's strengths.
  9. Need a date on Windham v. Mero which would be a good random tv match to throw in as a sort of "this is what was going on on the syndicated shows" match. It was on the SC greatest matches in WCW list though way down near the bottom. I was one of the only voters. Pretty sure it was a "computer challenge" match if that helps. Also for a random WCW match that might not pass the Meltzer star rating test, the Slamboree match with Scorp/Bagwell v. Benoit/Eaton was a hell of a lot of fun, with a great finish and is sort of interesting to watch as it was the front end of the wave of guys like Scorp and Benoit influencing the U.S. wrestling scene.
  10. ECW 04/05/93 Promo By Terry Funk 05/04/93 Promo By Terry Funk At The Double Cross Ranch 06/08/93 Video Package On Terry Funk And Eddie Gilbert Chain Match: Terry Funk vs. Eddie Gilbert - Summer Sizzler 6/19/93 08/10/93 (A Best Of ECW Show) Highlights Of Terry Funk vs. Eddie Gilbert This was the best thing in 93 ECW by a long shot. If the last package includes enough I don't know that the May/June stuff should go on. The first promo should go on as that was the first thing ever on ECW tv. 08/17/93 Eddie Gilbert Goes Out And Finds A Replacement Host For Jay Sullie 08/31/93 Tito Santana/Stan Hansen vs. Shane Douglas/Don Muraco (Random as fuck that this happened in ECW and sort of falls under the "curiosity category") Crash The Terminator/Miguel Perez Jr. vs. Head Hunters - Ultra Clash 9/18/93 09/21/93 Interview w/ The Public Enemy The Public Enemy vs. Jason/Ian Rotten (First PE appearance) 10/5/93 Sabu vs. Tazmaniac 10/12/93 Terry Funk/JT Smith/Abdullah The Butcher vs. Kevin Sullivan/Don Muraco/Jimmy Snuka (This is maybe six minutes from beginning to end, but it's a fun chaotic with J.T. making up for being the non-legend by taking a couple of insane bumps) 12/21/93 A Video Highlighting The Feud Between The Public Enemy And Bad Company 12/28/93 Sabu vs. Terry Funk (ECW Title Match From Holiday Hell) That is the stuff I would mark as "essential" or "near essential" to a get a representation of ECW for the year. There are other things worth considering. For example you might want to get something from surfer Sandman (almost anything would do really) or a match from one of the early guys that never really went anywhere like Larry Winters or Tony Stetson. But I don't feel like that stuff is necessary for a set like this. God willing I'll be going through SMW tv soon and will be able to give you a pretty comprehensive list there as well. For now here are some things from SMW I would look for: Cornette's Army v. Armsrong's Army (Rage In The Cage) -Fire On The Mountain 8-14-93 The Heavenly Bodies/Jim Cornette v. Bob, Scott and Steve Armstrong Hot August Night in Mo-Town 8-13-93 Brian Lee v. Tracy Smothers - Hot August Night in Mo-Town 8-13-93 Bruise Brothers v. The Heavenly Bodies (Street Fight) - Thanksgiving Thunder 11-26-93 There is also a Cowabunga v. Jim Cornette FanCam I love though I don't think it NEEDS to make a set like this. From memory there are several things on Will's Funk set that ought to be considered. At the top of the list should be Funk v. Tony St. Clair which would give you a European flavor and is a great match. Here is a link to the WKO 93 forum which will probably be helpful http://z11.invisionfree.com/wrestling_ko/i...hp?showforum=68 Sabu vs. Lightning Kid NWA Grandslam 4/17 is the one non-Funk indy match I am certain should make the set.
  11. I think the most telling thing about HHH is that he was the companies "big star" when Vince decided to promote around the notion of the brand and not the superstar, game changing, larger than life character.
  12. Tossing my review of this up here. I'll be getting the set eventually (sooner rather than later hopefully) and this is a match I sort of went to bat for with goodhelmet as a FanCam match that ought to be included. Note that my copy of this had audio issues. There was a lengthy dance off segment at the beginning of this was actually especially funny because of the lack of audio. Scorp finally gets pissed off at Bubba's attempt to break dance and attacks him from behind which of course leads to Bubba making a quick comeback and Scorp rolling out to the floor. Back in and Scorp establishes dominance and it's evident pretty quickly how awesome this match is going to be. Story of match is basically Scorp kicking the shit out of Bubba when he can get the advantage and Bubba telling him to bring it and Bubba bringing it himself only to come up a little short. At one point Scorp punts Bubba viciously and busts him open which makes stuttering Bubba even more sympathetic. There was a great spot early where Bubba eats a few clotheslines and screams at Scorp who then decks him with a running clothesline putting him flat on his ass. Also really loved Bubba taking a full length ricochet bump off of a really sick top rope dropkick from Scorp. Scorp was great working the crowd in this with taunts and man alive his big spots are awesome as he absolutely creams Bubba with a plancha and a couple of moonsaults. I also loved his big bump into the crowd as he seemed to hang in the air for effect. Gotta give it to Bubba too for really milking his moments in this hamming it up after hitting a powerbomb and having to be coaxed into going for the cover, running to the wrong rope after getting Scorp down and having to reposition leading to a missed splash, et. I've long thought that Scorp may have been the best in the States in 96 and this bolsters his case.
  13. What's interesting about Charleston is that the WWF took over the old Mid-Atlantic building and post-Crockett WCW moved into the "bigger" Arena which was (at the time) the McAllister Fieldhouse where The Citadel plays basketball. From memory that seats a bit less than 7,000 max for wrestling. County Hall - or the King Street Palace when Vince ran the place - is in a really bad part of town (it no longer exists actually) and I doubt you could get more than 3,500 people in their without obliterating the fire code (the building has since been converted into a housing project). I'm trying to remember when Vince first ran down here, but I honestly have no recollection. I would be shocked if it was before 88 and honestly it may have not even been til 89 or 90. Trying to remember when NWA/WCW moved into McAllister is tough too. I know they used to run St. Andrews High School Gym semi-regularly before that and they ran the Citadel football stadium at least once I THINK in 86.
  14. So, for clarification's sake, you're saying Coughlin is a quality analyst on his podcasts, but one whose analysis is so completely unremarkable that you can't actually remember any specifics about anything he's ever said without writing it out immediately after he says it for future reference? I mean, I guess it's possible to analyze a fight well without actually being able to deliver that analysis in a compelling manner, but is he really so unmemorable that you literally can remember nothing about anything he's ever said on his podcasts without taking notes as it happens? Seriously why are you being such an utter cunt here? "Please stop with the personal attacks"
  15. There is at least one Valentine v. Hogan match that made tape and I remember thinking it was pretty good when I watched it a couple years back.
  16. I agree. I am specifically interested in seeing during what year the drawing gap between Flair and Hogan widened the most. Flair's drawing power at his peak sometimes gets undersold because it wasn't at the level of Hogan's, although he is still in the top handful of all time draws in the U.S. I like mentioning that because some like to make the argument about how most of the biggest draws have been guys who weren't that good in the ring, when really, Hogan is the exception, not the rule. I say that acknowledging that Flair's persona is what made him a draw. But the longevity came because people knew they were getting a show when he headlined. What big draws were bad workers? Hogan, Shiek, Big Daddy. Pretty much everyone else has been pretty good or great. I think it's extremely debatable whether or not Hogan was a bad worker
  17. I got my Maple Leaf in the mail today. Haven't had a chance to watch any of it yet and probably won't anytime in the near future. When I do I will have opinionssssssss
  18. From memory Cornette goes ballistic about Mitchell's presentation of Gordy and how Corny used him on a couple of the SMW FanFest DVD's that are floating around in circulation.
  19. Best part about this is that MVP got one of the loudest pops I can ever remember him getting at Survivor Series. The guy has sucked pretty horribly for the last two years and they clearly had nothing for him.

  21. Is this the Gordy List for what is wrestling? "When the WWE comes into a market, do they have, in their contract, that the arena can't host a syndicated talk show within 45 days before or after due to confusion in the marketplace?" No, but irrelevant because talk show's run in studio enviornment's - much like wrestling used too. "When syndicated talk shows air in Europe, does WWE, go to the stations and say that they are bad for children, too violent, and should not be allowed to air?" Don't know about Europe, but I know for an absolute fact that WWE/WCW pressured stations not to carry certain talk shows in certain time slots in my area, Springer being one of them - and the excuse used was that they were "bad for kids." I've heard this from two people - one a prominent local ad executive that I have worked with through radio contacts, and the second a long time friend and source of Dave Meltzer. Did WWE offer a syndicated talk show host $2 million to fight Undertaker at WrestleMania this year? No - But Springer did host a Raw this year, and Morton Downey Jr./Roddy Piper skit was promoted as a key moment on one of WWE's biggest shows in history (at the time). Did all but a few UFC heavyweight champions also work as syndicated talk show hosts? Irrelevant, worthless point. How many football players went on to become wrestlers? Bouncers? Drug dealers? Is Nickey Barnes candidate for "lost worker of all time" due to lack of footage?
  22. you can't go by the liberal media folks at fox
  23. Dave has said that but he has no knowledge of it and even if they were worked it is highly highly unlikely they were worked by near the margin that would be needed to explain the huge disparity. The "my source died and took the evidence with him" line of reasoning would be viewed critically in any other line of journalism and ought to be here.
  24. I know for a fact that Dave's definition of "reporter" is very, very relaxed
