Is the knock on George Scott for 88-89 run unfair?
sek69 replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
Very true, the role of a booker changed a great deal in the post territory era. Not the least of which being the need to get talent over and keep them that way longer rather than the territory way of cycling people in and out to keep them fresh. Who knows how well the great bookers of the past would have been able to manage in an era where everyone stays around for years (or decades if its WWE) rather than a short cycle. -
Yeah that belt design is a solid no from me, dawg. Not sure why they couldn't just update the design of the previous one to have it say World Championship or something. It looks like one of Jeff Hardy's custom belts.

WWE will 100% go after Jungle Boy ay some point just because his dad was a big star in the 90s and that's their target demo lol.

I watched Wrestlemania 3 last night. since I was feeling nostalgic and that was the show that cemented my WWF fandom at he time. It was interesting looking at it in a booking/layout aspect to see how poorly agented it was. There were at least three matches with a "heel does the Stevens/Flair flip over the turnbuckle spot" nearly back to back, and nearly every match with the heels winning had the same "babyface attacks the heel and looks like a poor loser" spot afterwards. I'm also pretty sure Jimmy Hart took more bumps than anyone on the show since he got manhandled in every match his guys were in. Plus in light of the editing Peacock was doing, it was interesting to hear Gorilla describe Alice Cooper's leather jacket as "something Adrian brought with him out of the closet" which was both homophobic and dumb considering it looked more like something Adrian would have worn prior to the Adorable gimmick.

So per Andrade and then Charlotte, she was taken out of storylines before she got COVID because one of the WWE mandated tests indicated elevated hormones present with pregnancy. They did their own at home test to make sure and it came out negative, but apparently she got COVID not too much later. Already the conspiracy theorists are speculating WWE pulled a fast one on her to cost her a Mania spot, and while that sounds crazy it's also pretty hard to fuck up what one would assume was a lab tested specimen to show pregnancy hormones that weren't there.

The best part about that is Riddle's response was 100% appropriate for his character, and Askua was the perfect one to be in it because she reacted to it the way her character would have as well.

I want Omos and Kofi do the Kareem/Bruce Lee fight now.

Man, they didn't have to have Miz and Morrison's song to jam so much but they did. And I appreciate that.

I would suspect Tay would do better in MMA than Punk did. Hell, most of us probably could to better than he did, but yes your point stands. If she just wants to be a weekend warrior and do some low level MMA on the side that would probably not be too much of an issue. If she decides she wants to make a serious go at it, it would get in the way of her pro wrestling.

He was the only heel to get booed against Cena when it was rare for Cena to not be the one getting booed in programs, dude's heel chops are underrated.

It was mentioned in the latest Observer that Edge looking old was a factor but not the deciding one:

Well Logan's done boxing so he's familiar with worked sports (I kid....sort of)
-
Its so typically WWE that they look at Logan Paul and all they see is "23 million YouTube subs" and not all the times he's been an unrepentant douchebag. The thirst is so transparent with this company.

I mean, I keep hoping it's that because the alternative is that it appeals to people who are into women acting like little girls, which is.......ugh.

People who think the Joker and Harley Quinn are relationship goals?
-
Well I suppose that's a relief to know the embarrassingly bad edit was a WWE deal and not an NBC one .
-
Yeah I wasn't particularly sad that comment was edited out, it was just shocking to see it done in a manner that looked like my 9 year old did it. I can't imagine how like.......75% of ECW stuff is going to pass muster either.

Someone shared a clip of the ham-fisted way they edited out Brian Pillman (as Yellow Dog) calling Johnny B. Badd "Johnny B GAY" by adding fake technical difficulties, and if that's the way things are going to be edited going forward the internet outrage will be amazingly hilarious.

Amazed that anyone here would get that bent out of shape over a reality show. Yeah It looks kinda dumb. No I have no interest in watching it. It's practically zero risk and all reward for AEW. If it becomes a hit and draws more eyes, great. If it flops its no big deal since most of AEW's hardcores won't watch it and won't know if it gets canceled anyway. The only possible downside would be if it flops and somehow sours TNT folks on AEW, which considering how much they seem to love them doesn't seem likely.

Funny thing is it's also a phrase used to describe when cops stick together and protect one of their own from having to accept any responsibility for wrongdoing.

He's largely coasting by on being lucky that there is both a sports rights fees boom and a "streaming services paying out the ass for content" boom going on. If one pops the other will still be around to keep them afloat for the foreseeable future. The only issue is if he believes he's getting all this money because it's high quality content rather than just large amounts of it.

To be fair, Tommaso aged himself about 15 years by growing his hair out so he looks like a jacked Bugsy McGraw.

So they did an angle after NXT went off the air where O'Reilly called out Cole to fight and in the fracas that followed, Cole decked William Regal. Between that and the segment from Regal's office where his brass knux were prominently on display, I wonder if he's going to end up coming out of retirement.
-
I wasn't sure if that segment with Cole and O'Reilly was going to end with them signing a contract or making out on that table. Either one seemed equally likely to happen.
