  1. It reminds me of the time Kent Walton called Keiichi Yamada a "fast-moving Jap."

When Cena was feuding with Miz? Yeah, WWE was pretty much a wasteland at that point. It's picked up big-time the past couple of years. The Cena/Rhodes Brothers vs. Wyatts six-man tag at the house show I went to in March is probably the best match I've seen all year.
  3. Or it could be case of Mays, Mantle, Snider and Ashburn. It may depend on how much one views them in relative terms to each other or in relative terms to everyone else. How about as the Isaiah to Magic or Bird, or Barkley to Jordan? He's not The Guy. But that guy isn't The Guy without him. I like the analogy I've made in the past. If Misawa/Kawada/Kobashi are Jordan/Magic/Bird, then Taue is Scottie Pippen-a level below the other three, but still an all-time great in his own right.
  4. Put me in the "punch Russ Davis in the face" camp. He was approaching heel Cole levels of intolerability for me.
  5. Steamboat probably would have gotten over more in Japan if Abdullah and Sheik had bloodied him up and gotten the crowd behind him in a big way like they did with the Funks.
  6. Being a plumber involves different demands and challenges than being President of the United States. And maybe Teddy Roosevelt wouldn't have done as good a job of unclogging sinks. But that doesn't mean the two jobs are even remotely comparable in terms of difficulty.
  7. Why was it crass? Because he's dead? If that's the case, then a lot of people here owe the Brody estate an apology. Anyway, his schtick sucked. The "Davis grabs Dandy's arm to prevent him from throwing a punch and opens him up to get blindsided by the rudo" bullshit would have been bad enough if it had been confined to a single match, but he did it in every apuestas match I've seen him officiate. I reiterate: fuck that guy.

    Vader

Dude managed to beat a good match out of Hulk Hogan. Dark horse top ten pick.
  9. El Dandy might be the best technical wrestler I've ever seen, so he'll place pretty high on my ballot. I'm not nearly as enamored of his brawls, though. Then again, that's largely due to the fact that just about all of them involve El Gran Davis, the Earl Hebner of Mexico. Seriously, fuck that guy.
  10. Have you not seen 2/28/93 vs. Kawada or 7/29/93 vs. Kobashi? I consider those to be the two best matches of his career.
  11. As I recall, the story on Henry is that he really sucked his first few years but improved a lot after going down to OVW to be retrained.
  12. What "really good stuff" did he do besides doing well in a limited role?
  13. But having carte blanche to go out and have the best match you can isn't worth much if you suck. What indication do we have that Haku would've had main event-caliber matches if the bookers had taken him off the leash?
  14. In what ways was it harder? Be specific.
  15. I think "great match" is being defined too narrowly here. A match doesn't have to be a 30-minute main event epic to be great. There are plenty of matches that go less than half that that I would consider great. Given that, I think lack of great matches is absolutely something that should be held against someone.
  16. My top four of Jumbo, Misawa, Kawada, and Kobashi is pretty well set in stone. After that, it's pretty fluid.
  17. Real talk, playing hide and seek with an imaginary foreign object is the dumbest shit ever.
  18. I'm pretty sure I've seen every notable Flair match (I haven't seen the Brody broadway, but you'd have to put a gun to my head to get me to sit through that), and I've found that the ones that are held up as being not typical Flair matches end up being basically typical Flair matches. The ones where Flair is a babyface are obvious exceptions.
  19. Of the nominees who currently have threads, I'd tentatively rank them as follows: Jumbo Misawa Kawada Kobashi Flair Funk Bret Eddy Hansen Santo Liger Tenryu Aja Rey Hokuto The group between Hansen and Hokuto is a total crapshoot for me. I could see myself putting them in literally any order.
  20. This is the first time I've seen Charlotte in action, and I have to say that I really dig her touring heel champ act. She has a viciousness about her that I like a lot. So naturally, they're apparently turning her face.
  21. Superstar Billy Graham is far more culpable in that regard, and he was one of the inaugural inductees. So I doubt that's the main thing holding JYD back.

I was wondering what they'd do with the guys whose signings they made a big deal about. Like, it seems weird to announce that you've signed Fergal Devitt and then have him show up in NXT as Mickey O'Malley.

    Not in Rey's current state.
  24. Dave once said that every old-timer he talked to besides Bret and Austin thinks Punk is shit. So I don't see him doing very well among former wrestlers. Also, there are plenty of perfectly logical reasons to oppose Daddy's candidacy.
  25. Here's what Meltzer wrote about the R&R's HOF candidacies back in 2009:
