Most wrestlers have the professionalism to get high either before the show or after their match. Jerry Estrada was out of his mind here. It wasn't a good match so towards the end I found myself just watching what he did next. Metal was bad as well. Psicosis looked impressive, but only having one rudo on his game doesn't cut it.

[1996-01-04-NJPW-Wrestling World 1996] Shinya Hashimoto vs Kazuo Yamazaki
Zenjo replied to Loss's topic in January 1996
This was frustrating, and I'm sure glad they had future matches in this rivalry. They set their stall out to go 15m+ and it felt like it had a fair chunk of it chopped off. Hash won before it could develop into a full length encounter. As an aside the "Chono sucked after his 1992 neck injury" is one of these stupid assumptions that emerged from a little insider knowledge and woefully insufficient viewing in the 1990's. There are good Chono matches you can find in the mid 00's even.- 27 replies

[1996-01-04-NJPW-Wrestling World 1996] Jushin Liger vs Koji Kanemoto
Zenjo replied to Loss's topic in January 1996
In commemoration of this match I decided to write a very short song: 'Juniors in the Dome, Juniors in the Dome, Juniors in the motherfucking Dome' The action had more of an aerial emphasis than normal. The execution was quite variable. Kanemoto's selling was atrocious. Liger followed up his Super J Cup victory to leave no doubts that he was back, and the ace of the division.- 18 replies

First half they worked the mat. It was a pleasant way to pass the time with a few nice touches. They patiently built it up. I liked how nothing came easy and they had to fight to pull off the higher powered moves. The stretch had clear shifts in momentum with one and then the other getting close but just being denied. It was a matchup of equals and on this day Mutoh shaded it. If it had gone to the better performer then Hash would have retained. I have no idea what "shenanigans" rzombie is referring to. I would usually use the term to refer to sports entertainment related screwiness. The match was by no means perfect, but it was a good main event for a Dome show and well worth a watch.

Right from the start Francine had most of her ass on display. At one stage Dreamer even did the rarely seen Vaginal Claw on her! Then there was the infamous piledriver where he exposed her hard plastic titties and showed them to everyone. Gravity had to tap out. This girl made the special guest pornstars in ECW blush.

[1996-12-15-WWF-It's Time] Flash Funk vs Leif Cassidy
Zenjo replied to Loss's topic in December 1996
Oh great. Scorpio gets the dancing gimmick and stupid costume that's got so many wrestlers long term employment and a push to the top of the card.- 10 replies

Piper's video wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting. He should've come out the next week and shown a Hulk Hogan music video. 'Hulk Rules' was such a great album.

This had a nicely booked finish that put Luger over big time. I really like Luger's character in 96-97.

[1996-11-04-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin-Brian Pillman confrontation
Zenjo replied to Loss's topic in November 1996
The promotion has done so many tasteless angles but I think this deserves a spot in the top 10. I'm trying to figure out Austin's motivation for doing this anyway? Pillman hadn't done anything to him in the first place and he 'breaks' the guys ankle. That apparently wasn't enough so he decides to fly to Cincinatti, drive to his house and break in just to beat him up. Jake Roberts probably wrote this as a sick joke to see if they'd actually go through with it.- 12 replies

[1996-11-17-WWF-Survivor Series] Interview: Rocky Maivia
Zenjo replied to Loss's topic in November 1996
Normally they'd have a clip of the babyface signing autographs for kids but nobody knew who Rocky was yet. -
Nothing that Angle had seen before had quite prepared him for ECW. Little did Kurt know that he'd end up more fucked up than most of the guys in the locker room.

The tone of this was really well judged. Respectful of an Olympic champion and the sport of amateur wrestling whilst also putting over pro wrestling.

[1996-10-27-WWF-Superstars] Brian Pillman interviews Steve Austin
Zenjo replied to Loss's topic in October 1996
Stone Cold was so cool that watching it now I always wonder why the fans weren't cheering for him yet. If you ever want to 'break' someone's ankle in wrestling then this is the way to go. -
My heart bleeds for poor Liz. If this had been the WWF they'd have shot to a woman crying in the crowd afterwards.

It would lead to a terrible angle but this was a really strong promo by JR. He really changed his character from the cheerful football obsessed PBP guy of the early 90's into a bitter and spiteful announcer, angry at how badly he'd been treated by McMahon.

This worked well because Jake did look like a broken down alcoholic. At 41 he was the same age as the Rock is now. Okay maybe that's a bit of a harsh physical comparison. The Snake was still fit enough to work at this time.

It was just a really pathetic attempt to discredit a WCW midcarder.

Backlund and the Iron Sheik were awesome. Bob's facial expressions early on were cracking me up and then the Shiek comes out and cuts an unintelligible promo. It was like watching one of those crazy adverts on Japanese TV. Afterwards you're shaking your head in disbelief and have no idea what it was trying to promote.

Presumably Sting was turned away from the camera to symbolise turning his back on WCW.

Bischoff trying to be a tough guy looked especially ridiculous after getting punk'd out the previous week. They needed an ex-wrestler as an authority figure doing this.
