    On one of the rekent WWE Xbox games I downloaded a komplete roster of Mortal Kombat Kharakters, as well as multiple MK rings and other kool stuff. So it wasn't such a krazy idea from Biskhoff in '97. They kould've just got a bunch of jobbers to wear near identikal ninja kostumes with different kolours to tell who was who. Damn I keep getting autokorrekted.

    I'm sure they wanted Tyson at this stage but probably weren't willing to cough up the $$$'s yet. Vader vs the chat show host was so old school, except with unfortunate cultural misunderstandings.

    This seemed to be more about Bret's heel turn with the Undertaker winning the title in the background. Not a very satisfying way to do a Wrestlemania main event.

    I can imagine the IWC at the time going crazy over this. I've no idea how much of this they planned to do but it comes off like things got out of hand. It would've been awesome if a group of WWF midcarders came down and had a huge brawl with the ECW guys. But Lawler asking for backup and nobody appearing was pretty good too.

    This was such a good idea they decided to do it again with Droz. Poor guy.

    This made me laugh as I have no idea who Mike Samples is either. Fun brawl. Wrestler in a restaurant = bull in a china shop.

    It's not hard to see why they kept Shamrock away from the mic as much as possible during his run.

    I remember Bobby Heenan saying how the WCW announcers often weren't informed about what was going to happen during the match, as Bischoff thought it would come across better when they were surprised. Terrible idea, but hey it's WCW. That was clearly the case here as they couldn't piece together what had happened with Savage dragging Hogan to the ropes after the bell. They'd just figured out Hogan's legs were outside the ropes without seeing the Savage interference. So the TV viewer knew what was happening better than the confused commentators afterwards.

    They'd probably just hired someone in Creative who was used to working in Hollywood and this was his most sensible suggestion. Ideas in wrestling need to have at least a loose connection to reality.

    I was hoping this was going to be Regal stiffing the shit out of the useless greenhorn, but it's Prince Iaukea joining Renegade in the varied list of TV Champions.

    Time hasn't been any kinder to Rocky's haircut. He was green in the ring as well as the outdated babyface gimmick.

    I can't believe I just watched a match from a train station, let alone in the WWF. Take away the fans and this is like something IWA Japan might have done. These early Metal shows are certainly interesting.

    One of the things I really hate is how turning heel suddenly makes a wrestler so much 'weaker'. Hulk Hogan had been beating countless opponents clean with the legdrop for 15 years. Now that he's Hollywood Hogan the move has no power all of the sudden. Okay the Giant was a special case, but now Hogan couldn't beat anyone legit anymore because he's a heel.

    Having never watched this I thought they were going to have him give birth to Mini Goldust next week.

    I'm not exactly sure how they'd have had sex. Elmo didn't appear to be "fully functional". I felt embarrassed to be watching this even though I was the only one there.

    Given the location it was surprising how little toilet humour there was. Would've been different on ECW or WWF for sure, but TNT was supposed to be more family friendly.

    I loved this segment. It was fresh, different, exciting and added another layer of intrigue to the ongoing storylines. Savage was such a loose cannon badass here. They made a mistake having him join the NWO.

    I just watched a clipped version from Youtube. It wasn't impressive at all with sub par execution from both men. Plus Juniors in the Dome heat obv.

    I'm not planning to do the 1996 yearbook for a while yet but have been sporadically rewatching some AJW from that year. I used to be under the impression that the years 91 & 96 were of a similar standard for AJW either side of the 92-95 golden era. Having viewed all the matches from 91 I was pleasantly surprised how well most things held up. The promotion was fresh, exciting and going places. Fast forward to 1996 and it's been a very different tale. Queendom was the biggest card of the year for the company, and it's hard to see how it could have been much worse from a match quality perspective. The only good thing about the show was Sakie Hasegawa's retirement ceremony. Hotta in a watchable shoot was the next best thing. None of the matches delivered, including this main event which really needed to save the show but didn't. It lacked intensity and had no big match feel. They started off with the giant swing and the rolling cradle which was just about the worst thing they could have done to put over the importance of the occasion. The rest was uninspired with some execution problems. 3 months into the year and Zenjo had now permanently lost Bull Nakano, Akira Hokuto and Sakie Hasegawa. A huge blow for the roster. Most of the remaining veterans were looking uninspired and just going through the motions, and the booking was every bit as lacklustre. They started to push the younger wrestlers but there was such a gulf between the girls who debuted in the 90's compared with the 80's that they couldn't represent any credible threat. Hopefully things will pick up a bit in the second half of the year.

    Why have a regular bash when you can have a Big Ass Extreme Bash? Sure this was a spotfest with barely any selling but it was really good fun. Plenty of spectacular aerial warfare from the two youngsters. They worked so fluently together. Plus an added hardcore element which included fighting outside the arena on the trunk of a car.

    Damn this was hot. A ***** crowd and parts of the match were also at that level. The stiffness and intensity of the Hotta vs Kansai rivalry was off the scale. Dyno was out for revenge for Fukuoka's beating and the two losses that her promotion had suffered. They both brutalised each other but it wasn't just that. Both partners absorbed a horrendous beating as the two badasses goaded each other. Amazing stuff. Despite the focus being on the two kickers Ozaki managed to make herself a factor in the match. Early on Takako was only required to have her ass kicked. Unfortunately the head kicks must have left her groggy as later on she messed up some moves and dragged it down a little. Had she been at her best this would've been one of my favourite matches of all time. It was still a classic with two great performances.
