  1. Lawler delivers an awesome promo how Gilbert always measured himself against Lawler, bringing up a Missy Hyatt story to make the point. Easy to see this tv show selling you on a MSC main event.
  2. Gilbert is out with PWI rankings to show he's better than Lawler. I don't know how this would play locally, but it would seem like a big deal if someone fighting for my local title, in my local promotion, was ranked #6 in the world. But if you view your local promotion as the world, well then maybe you look at things differently.
  3. Razor! Debut in Miami, Scarface suit, looks like a big deal. Toothpick. Cool stuff.
  4. After clips of what got the feud to this point, Shango delivers a WCW-cliche promo before we get to the money and Okerlund's hand spewing black.
  5. Just an awesome match, easily one of the best of the year and so far my #2 AJ behind the May 6-man. Jdw above used a lot of words -- but a lot less than I'd need -- to explain why I never found too much fault with AJ booking. You had clean finishes for years on end and without rigidly adhering to a certain hierarchy those classic matches & moments are not classic. Onto the match. Love Taue heeling it on Kobashi early and then Misawa turning the tables and doing his best Taue to the original's leg. This role reversal may not always work, but it sure does here. Just like Hansen would typically put Kawada over strong, Jumbo does a fantastic job selling for Kobashi while showing the kid isn't quite up to the task of putting away the ace. I figured Misawa bumping his head on the rail was a sign Kobashi was about to eat the pin, so they even had me surprised when he got back in time to break up the fall on a nodowa/backdrop combo. Kobashi didn't just lay down and die at that point, he kicked out of a power bomb and hit a German of his own before Taue goes over strong with three nodowas. Not only great on its own, but as a precursor to the big tags in 12/93, 5/94 and 6/95. ****1/2
  6. This doesn't rise to their classics, but is still a fine match. Frenzied striking early followed by Hansen attacking Kawada's knee, which he sells throughout. The middle seemed to drag a bit for an AJ main event. The crowd got back into things after Kawada's offensive explosion. Pretty cool to see Hansen mix in a dropkick. After ducking one lariat, Kawada eats a power bomb and a short lariat. ***1/2
  7. This greatly exceeded my expectations. These two looked faster, crisper and a cut above anything else going on in the WWF at the time. By the same token, they seemed to avoid putting on a main event style match with lots of finishers or huge moves as though they were saving that for the top of the card, but what they did they made count. Michaels was so fresh as an act with great mannerisms and facials, just bumping all over the place. Sherri may have taken a backseat for most of the match, but that only makes it a bigger deal when she does get involved. Any chance they were piping in crowd noise here? Really fun and simple with seamless transitions built around hope spots for Hart before the finish after a Sherri bump. ***1/2
  8. Language barriers sometimes make it difficult to follow feuds in Japan, but cool to see Liger against Samurai in the wake of their awesome singles matches (and Pegasus) in another context here and a continuation of their feud post-match. TM3 may be young, but Liger carries him through this like a champ as they gel pretty well given their experience levels. Benoit takes out Liger with a jumping tombstone and Samurai finishes TM with a Russian legsweep and submission. Fun and different. ***
  9. I like Muta in the right setting and Armstrong is not someone you'd ever say is boring, but man was this ever slow and boring. I understand they were having 2/3 falls main events every week, but you can do that without dragging them out like this. Served no purpose and no one came out of the match looking better. The highlight here are promos from Windham & Arn setting up next week's main event. **1/4
  10. Arn talks about being part of 2 great groups, but now its time to do something for himself. One of the few guys who could put together a great promo out of any material at all (not that the material here sucked). Too bad this was really just a couple week thing on tv or for house shows, but I guess that's the story of his career as a singles.
  11. Horner wins on a neat roll up and Landel attacks afterward. Nothing special at all. **1/4
  12. Landel wins after Tim Horner takes a powder. Good interview by Landel afterwards setting up their $5K rematch.
  13. Solid promo from Gilbert talking stips for a title match.
  14. The low point of 1992 WWF continues.
  15. Pretty memorable angle from the era with Nailz jumping Bossman during a squash and absolutely destroying him with the nightstick as Bossman is cuffed to the ropes and then his hands behind his back. Pushed as a really big deal, much moreso than other mid-card angles.
  16. Was this really the first time Taue used the Nodowa? I could swear I've seen it throughout the yearbook but perhaps I missed something that distinguished his finisher there from here. Kikuchi stepped and worked pretty big here against the larger heel squad. Jumbo griding his fist into Misawa's ribs during an abdominal stretch was a great spot as well, so simple and effective yet something other workers wouldn't think of. ***3/4
  17. Nice, always loved how they produced that. Looked so much better than similar angles, even if I fully recognize I may just appreciate it given when I saw it.
  18. I was skeptical but listened to the first 2 episodes at the gym and on the commute this morning, and I'll be damned but his charisma carries over to a podcast as they just breeze by. Really great listens and never get boring, even when he's shilling his various projects as its just hilarious.

This wins the award for point of view I disagree with most on this board in the month of April Glad I could get in under the wire
  20. With a good finish it would've been my favorite on the night. As it stands probably 2nd favorite for me, though I could always dock it for that post-match nonsense. But I thought it was great until then.
  21. It was really good relative to what I would expect or is typical for such a weekly match. Not "really good" to the point that I'll I'll remember it months or years from now or be touting it when looking back at 2013 in the ring. It was much more engaging than most Orton matches of late and had me questioning what was predictable before the bush finish. I'll take it.
  22. It was a really good match. For a fleeting moment they even had me thinking Cody might go over.

Big Show is probably the least watchable top tier guy on the roster for me these days. His character, work and mic are all things I fast forward when watching on dvr.
  24. I may have laughed the first time I watched them as I was blown away things like that were happening in Japan in the 80s. Sheer, joyful laughter.
