  1. Thanks, definitely gives me some stuff to work with. Will probably check out IVP's comps once I'm ready to hit the 2000s. Thanks, definitely looking forward to working through these. Looks like a great mix. Appreciate all the suggestions!
  2. Ole was a phenomenal promo. The man did a great job combining evil, maniacal and intelligent. Shia LaBeouf would've gone home without his lunch rather than face off with Ole.
  3. Add Mayumi Ozaki to the list. Could add more from joshi, but the point stands. I'd rename it for Hansen.
  4. But why does one have to discount Brody just because Hansen is so good? Hansen is also one of my faves and I loved his AWA title reign. I appreciate the differences they have in their style. Again I'm going to watch Brody over the next couple of days just to freshen up on him. Its not so much that Hansen's excellence discounts Brody but rather that when viewed side by side with Hansen, Brody's shitshow is even more rancid. He had a fantastic ring entrance and pre-match charisma. Then the bell rings and you've got a total stiff who doesn't bring you anything on either side of the ball. Imagine Ray Lewis or Drew Brees doing their thing before kickoff and then they come out and instead you've got Bart Scott manning the middle and Trent Dilfer under center. BRUISAH BRODY!
  5. Somehow I went to college for 4 years in St. Louis and even though it was LONG after there was no such thing as Wrestling At the Chase, the only thing that ever got me to the Chase was the bar. Still incredibly disappointed and one of my big regrets from my time there. In other news, Brody still sucks. I never minded his kneedrop and appreciated his willingness to bleed, but I haven't seen too many wrestlers that sold so little or produced such little offense from such constant motion. I'm always waiting for his energy to pay off but after the ring entrance find myself constantly bored. Sorry -- didn't notice the Brody thread till just now.
  6. Bonus points to this for setting up the classic final a couple days later. That isn't the same without this setting the table first.
  7. Also Brody. He was so bad he gave the Berzerker a bad rap.
  8. Cannot stand Sheamus. Not sure if I hate his work on the stick more or less than in the ring, but his segments are ones I comfortably fast forward through without regret. Randy Orton too. Its been said before that he performs like the generic CAW in a video game. I'll say it again. He sucks.
  9. I could've posted this in the Longevity thread as it's juts as relevant there, but given this is all about Jumbo & Tenryu opted for it here. On the 80s AJ set Tenryu simply didn't do it for me. I loved him in the Jumbo/Choshu tags as well as vs. Jumbo in singles matches, but otherwise I couldn't get into him at all. I loved the Baba/Hansen matches better than any Tenryu singles outing that didn't involve Jumbo. Fast forward to the 90s and aughts, and its a whole other story. Love him vs. Hash in G1, love him in WAR vs. NJ, as well as badass Tenryu vs. AJ nearly a decade later. Perhaps he had to grow into being the surly old bastard I eventually grew to love, but I did not connect at all with the clean cut, blase greaseball frrom the 80s. Jumbo? Easily my favorite from the 80s set and top 5 on my GOAT list.
  10. Much more compelling conversation that this is not true.
  11. Yes, wasn't looking for something quite as focused as those comps. Ideally something organized on a bit broader basis.
  12. Don't recall saying that other wrestlers -- good, great or GOAT -- lack any repetitive elements to their game. Your point as I read it was that Flair is not as prone to this as others. I disagree.
  13. Not every day I can send a link to friends & family and say this is why I'm proud to be a wrestling fan. Today is one such day.
  14. Perhaps if you pull these out and chart them move for move like a pitcher every fifth day you'll find he's in fact mixing up what he's throwing out there. But leave that technical analysis aside you're left feeling the same about what's taking place. You may see a curve or slider every now and then but you're generally seeing the same repertoire.
  15. This is basically where I've always come out on Funk, although his highs in Japan, NWA, ECW and promo work ensured he was a cut above that level overall, but pretty far from the GOAT discussion.
  16. Cosign. Not only would I hate it, I don't think there's any way they'd piss away 6 figures worth of PPV buys, which I legitimately believe watering down the main event would do. You maximize money with Cena/Rock 2 and would take a hit with Punk/Rock. A triple threat is an absolute waste, and say what you will about their booking, but they and Rock are not blind enough to make that kind of mistake. As for the show, they did a really great job putting the shield over without making Ryback/Kane/Bryan look weak at all. As noted earlier some of the camera angles and cuts they used made it feel a lot more chaotic and violent than is typical. I thought the shield was effective in not only selling where appropriate without looking out of their league, but constantly working as a unit that was greater than the sum of its parts.
  17. Great match, but it never connected with me on the same level that I've seen it touted over time. There's obviously nothing wrong with it and as Loss notes its certainly a fantastic spotfest. But I agree that afterwards you're not left recalling much other than "that was a lot of fun." Which means its still better than most of what you'd find elsewhere while failing to rise to the level of what I'd consider memorable.
  18. Are there any stellar Joshi comps out there folks would recommend? I'll probably settle on what's in the yearbooks as I was looking to start there with '92 or so but thought I'd see if there were any more focused comps available on that front. Thanks.
  19. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Austin praised him that highly.
  20. No question the story had passed its natural climax by the end of '95 and certainly after Kobashi was split off from Misawa. I wonder if Jumbo doesn't get ill, at what point does Misawa get a chance to take over as ace and the events of '93-'94 take place instead from '95-'96? Does Jumbo stay on top so long that Kobashi eventually gets the run? Quite the MMQB convo, but fun to think about.
  21. What's next -- HOF points for what could've been if he turned in '96 instead of Hogan?
  22. That's a win. Pretty much nailed it.
  23. Definitely interesting. Assuming things played out that way I don't think there's any question the resulting product would've been less compelling than what came of it. Unrelated, but I can't get over the job Hansen did selling for Misawa and painting him out as some kind of unstoppable force. Just awesome.
  24. '92 CC and 8/92 TC are not classics (although the TC is great), but I always thought Hansen selling for and putting Misawa over in these two, particularly his elbows, did nearly as much for Misawa as the Jumbo win 2 years earlier. Hansen went out of his way to paint Misawa as the type of force that he just didn't do for anyone on the 80s set or on this level in the early 90s.
  25. Do we know any more about plans for the TC post '93? Fascinating to think about what that would've led to, but man would we have missed out on so much.
