  1. Inspired by goodhelmet's thread, this week's Squared Circle Gazette Radio takes nominations and talks about almost every Rumble PPV in history to determine those considered the Best and Worst of All Time. This was a really fun look at classics like 1992, 2000 and 2001, ones that may have fallen short like 1993, 1995 and 2006, and a whole host of others that people made a strong case for, one way or the other. A good way to kick off Rumble season! Check it out and as always, let me know what you think! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/web/8wiksa/SCGRadio27-TheBestandWorstRoyalRumblePPVs.mp3
  2. I absolutely love this topic, so much that I thought it would make for an really fun podcast on the Best & Worst Royal Rumble PPVs in history, so for those who are interested in such a discussion, you can hear our show at the following link - a really fun look at classics like 1992, 2000 and 2001, ones that may have fallen short like 1993, 1995 and 2006, and a whole host of others that people made a strong case for, one way or the other. http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/web/8wiksa/SCGRadio27-TheBestandWorstRoyalRumblePPVs.mp3
  3. Glad you dug it - we were gauging the success of this one before we committed to it, but the idea was to do 6 month blocks covering the entire War eventually. The issue I suppose is that the MNW is such a common topic of conversation and has been covered a great deal, but I do think there is something to Observer coverage and the different perspectives. We got a request for a TNA timeline from January 4th 2010 to Bound For Glory that year as well, which would likely end up as an evisceration. But if people enjoy this format, I expect we'll be doing the first half of 1996 in a few weeks.
  4. Following on from the historic event, the SCG panel review the whole show top to bottom, breaking down all the matches and outcomes, conflicting thoughts on JR & Striker, possible future directions and take a lot of fan feedback on the event itself. An interesting show, as the panel is a mix of New Japan regulars and newbies, and there are some differing opinions that were surprising with the show watched through different sets of eyes. A really fun show to do, check it out and as always, let me know what you think~! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/e7pbtk/SCGRadio26-WrestleKingdom9Review.mp3
  5. Well, you're the first to say that, so sorry if you didn't enjoy it. I will say we landed the interview right before he did Meltzer's show, and a lot of the questions we wanted to ask were already covered and I didn't want to rehash, plus we put out on our previous show and on a few forums that we were interviewing Jeff and to send in questions, so a good few of the ones read were what people wanted to know. I wouldn't go so far as to say no real questions were asked, we got the fact TripleMania is being negotiated out of him which nobody else has, asked about a TV deal, if he thinks PPV is dying, the timing issue with the Dome show... Then again, I'm bound to feel that way.
  6. The latest Squared Circle Gazette Radio is now online, featuring our interview with Jeff Jarrett talking NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 9, Global Force Wrestling, whether PPV is a dying breed, the TV situation in wrestling, Jim Ross Vs. Lance Russell, TripleMania on PPV in America, what he learned from founding TNA that has served him well this time, and a whole hell of a lot more. From there, the usual panel discusses what Jeff had to say and talk Global Force Wrestling and the possibilities and drawbacks of a new alternative. I want to thank everybody that sent questions in via email, we got to ask a few of them and Jeff was happy to answer anything. Please excuse the first 60 seconds or so of the interview, it was recorded on Skype and was glitchy at first but got much better as we progressed. A really fun show and hope you enjoy! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/web/sd5yr4/SCGRadio25-JeffJarrettandGFW.mp3
  7. Squared Circle Gazette Radio returns this week for our Christmas Show edition, as we break our typical format and answer email questions from the listeners, discussing the NXT special last week, favourite WrestleMania matches, the best year in wrestling history, WWE.Com's Top 50 Babyfaces list, awful PPVs, whether a British wrestling company can make it big, and a special announcement regarding a guest on next week's show. With beer flowing and fun discussion aplenty, the festive cheer is in abundance - check it out and let me know what you think! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/zq35gf/SCGRadio24-The2014ChristmasShow.mp3
  8. A guy like Rowan probably would have more protected then, agreed. All you have to do is look around and even in an 84 Mid South you've got a guy like Masao Ito that they're be book to their strengths and not overexpose them too much. More TV in the modern era means you have to have less holes in your game just because it's easier to get caught out...
  9. First one that came to mind for me too.
  10. Based on the thread posted here and elsewhere, the podcast on this subject is now up, as we take your suggestions and discuss wrestlers throughout history that may have done better in a different time or place. Featuring speculative discussion on Superstar Billy Graham, Randy Savage, Brian Pillman, Raven, JYD, Jerry Lawler, Bobby Lashley, CM Punk, Goldberg, Cesaro, Jack Swagger, DDP and many many more. This show was a lot of fun, check it out and let me know what you think! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/fz2keq/SCGRadio23-WrestlersInTheWrongTimeAndPlace.mp3 As an additional note, we're doing a Christmas show this week, so if you're a regular listener and want to submit a random question or topic of discussion, email us at [email protected] and we'll be reading them on next week's show...
  11. 12. I don't see it with Takahashi myself, he's just missing that fire all the special guys have. They seemed to have missed the window on Goto and Naito, and to an extent Shibata too. Ishii is a candidate but they need to act on him now. Komatsu has something that really draws emotion out of the crowd, which in time could develop into something great, though.
  13. For this week's podcast, we're looking at classic examples of guys in wrestling history who may have been more successful if they had come around at a different time or place, and as always, we're looking for your suggestions. So who is the ONE guy that you've always watched and thought they would have done better had they come along at a different time or place, when would have been the best time for them, and more importantly, why? I'm really looking forward to the feedback from you guys on this, as there's been a lot of tape watching done that would identify some of the unsung gems who were caught in the midst of the wrong time frame to stand out... We'll be reading the best candidates on the show and crediting you accordingly, so this should be a lot of fun. Who's your pick?
  14. This really sucks to hear. As a kid I loved the Heavenly Bodies, and Del Rey in particular with his moonsault and great bumps. Hated even as a youngster that they became an underneath team...
  15. After taking feedback from all over the place, the latest SCG Radio is up, as we talk about the creation and early months of the Monday Night War. Timelining the events of 1995 with added details from the Wrestling Observer Newsletters of the time, as well as taking feedback on viewing habits and the highs and lows, this show hits all the talking points of the time and a lot more. This one was a lot of fun to do, check it out and as always, let me know what you think! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/feznb8/SCGRadio22-TheMondayNightWarin1995.mp3
  16. Well, two weeks on, and the podcast is finally up and ready. I want to thank everybody for their contributions, we got to a fair few of them on the show and took your picks for your All Time Favourite Feud, and had a blast talking about some classic rivalries. Featuring talk on Austin Vs. Bret, Flair Vs. Funk, Lawler Vs. Kaufman, Rock Vs. Mankind, Hogan Vs. Andre, Savage Vs. Jake, Misawa Vs. Kawada, Sullivan Vs. Mulligan, Magnum Vs. Tully and many, many more. Check it out if you like, feedback is always appreciated. http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/fva95j/SCGRadio21-AllTimeFavouriteFeuds.mp3

  18. After a couple of weeks of impassioned debate, we're taking a lighter route for this week's podcast, and want to talk about some of the classic feuds in wrestling history, so the question I wish to pose to you is simple – personally, what is your all-time favourite feud, and more importantly, why? Be it a forgotten gem or a renowned classic, feel free to detail what about it you loved that makes it stand out of the pack, and as always, we'll be reading the best feedback on the show and crediting your fine selves. I’m eager to see the variety in different people’s tastes for this when you have to whittle it down to personal favourite…
  19. Haha, glad you enjoy them - the ad-lib Happy Gilmore ending on this one just slayed me. Names are Liam O'Rourke (myself), Kieran O'Rourke, Karl Jones, Luke Edwards, Matt Holt, and the fella in question is G. John Chase (G for Gareth, but he's been called "G" his whole life).
  20. Agreed, and when I went back to edit this show that was pretty glaring, and I'm a little annoyed by the fact I let the "it's the system" argument gain so much steam throughout. With Crockett they have the "accountant was behind" excuse, but when the booking is so destructive and kills attendance and buyrates, how much accountability can really be deflected....
  21. Some awesome nominations from you guys here - the podcast is now up, if you wish to listen to us discussing as many of the candidates as we could, from the likes of Ahmed Johnson, Sid and Lex Luger, to misfires such as Sean O'Haire, Mr. Kennedy and Big Show, to some interesting candidates such as Barry Windham and CM Punk, as well as a hell of a lot more. This was a really fun show to do, if you're interested you can listen on the link below, enjoy. http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/4df9m5/SCGRadio20-MostDisappointingWrestlers.mp3
  22. After taking feedback from here, there and everywhere, the show is now up! After almost 70 different nominations, we discuss who we and you think are among the Most Disappointing Wrestlers, from the likes of Ahmed Johnson, Sid and Lex Luger, to misfires such as Sean O'Haire, Shelton Benjamin, Mr. Kennedy and Big Show, to some interesting candidates such as Barry Windham and CM Punk, as well as a hell of a lot more. This was a really fun show to do, check it out, enjoy, and as always, let me know what you think! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/4df9m5/SCGRadio20-MostDisappointingWrestlers.mp3
  23. May be my pick on the show if I can justify picking him over a few others...
  24. So for our podcast this week, we're going to talk about some of the most disappointing wrestlers in history - guys that for whatever reason just fell short of expectations. It can be somebody you really thought was going to make it and as it panned out just didn't have the goods, or it can even be a guy you had heard a lot about that didn't live up to the hype for you personally. But I'm curious to hear people's takes on this - the more detail you wish to go into on the expectations and how they fell off the beaten path the better, and as always, we'll read as many of your picks on the show as we can. So who is it for you, that you see as the most disappointing?
  25. Haha, I did feel a little bad since Luke travelled a long way specifically to do the trial, but alas, this ended up being quite amusing in its own right, so thanks for the kind words. Agreed on Savage's placement being pretty much the blaring siren that makes the whole list questionable. There was a whole section that got cut out where I challenged everybody to give their 1-2-3 ranking out of Edge, Jericho and Punk, and there's something about ranking Edge highly that seems hard to do for me...
