  1. Booking Tyrus is an indefensible decision for me. I don't care about whether they booked the show during Fastlane frankly. I don't think what was on that card looked anything on that card looked like it came close to being worth $20. If a Nick Aldis match gets you pumped...I guess more power to you but couldn't be me. We have a lot of promotions in the world with just better talent for similar or lower pricing. I say that knowing the state of most non-major US wrestling promotions is not all that great. And I still don't think NWA is close. If you want to watch a quality wrestling promotion where you can feel like there are storylines and quality wrestling, go watch Action Wrestling on IWTV. Probably a much better use of your time and energy.
  2. I for one know I will have a number of blind spots and I’ll probably be closer to trying to have surface level impressions of most important things. I submitted a ballot last time where I feel I may have had a little too many blind spots...but also I don’t care. Hope is that I submit a ballot to the best of my ability, other people with other blind spots do the same and things balance out. Last time I also feel like I didn’t interact in threads with the best intentions as in I wanted to feel like I was participating without really having anything to say. I’m hoping I can at least chart where I’m at with various wrestlers a bit better this time around.
  3. The thing is, I'm looking for less planned stuff if that makes sense. I want folks that are already doing great writing, great podcasts, or great YouTube channels to want to write, talk, or produce pieces with the goal of pushing cases or discussing processes, or whatever.
  4. I think 2 is something I agree with and I know a lot of folks not here agree with. I still think there were a lot of great discussions in the wrestler threads but agree that these weird, insular topics that feel more like bits in 2021 than actual arguments, sucked a bit of air out of the room/had better topics folded into them. While, I actually don't know if Grimmas will make some sort of Zine but I think something I want to do is try and pump more out of this GWE and encourage people to do the same. I want MORE podcasts, MORE blog posts, MORE oddball projects that all come back to GWE. Maybe on podcast feeds that are at all searchable or don't feel like wholesale podcast series are only found through forum links.
  5. Is it Mania weekend yet? The thing I'm most looking forward to is figuring out the feel of who has shifted over the past five years. There were a lot of wrestlers that may have been solid picks that I don't think we as a collective really did the proper "process" with which I think is going to be awesome. Folks like Fred Yehi, Drew Gulak, Super Dragon, Ikuto Hidaka, etc. Your post 2000s candidates.
  6. Clearly I have a personal stake (stake is probably too strong of a word, I make negative money) but the feed is one FIRE right now. If you haven't checked out the BeruBara Tag Boom episodes also recommend checking those out. Seems right up PWO's alley Once you have finished the Top Wrestlers of the Decade Podcasts I highly, highly recommend you spend about 17 hours listening to these episodes
  7. No worries, always looking for folks to follow https://letterboxd.com/concrete/ And I hear where you are coming from but given we are five years I think that takes some of the burden off feeling like I have to always be ON. Like there is a 50% chance I do a podcast series on Ra King Ka which I assume will not be helpful for GWE but it will be something I enjoy and it isn't like I don't have time. There is a good chance if I tried using every free moment of time towards GWE over the next five years I would die internally and externally.
  8. In almost the opposite way, it allows me to dabble for a week in early 2000s Zero1 then bounce to 80s lucha and then watch 2016 ROH TV. I can do little dives but also because the goal is so broad, I don't have to worry about burning myself out. Right now I'm going through 80s NJPW but I know by the time I watch 5 Inoki vs. Hansen matches I'm going to want something different.
  9. Do want to quickly note that this doesn't add some pressure or what not to my watching. I need some sort of funnel for pretty much everything I enjoy. If it is a game, I either will be writing throwing at least 500 words at it on a forum thread or listening to a podcast on it. If it is movie I am going to Letterboxd it and each movie is part of my understanding of movies. Sometimes it adds little, sometimes it adds a lot. Want to get ahead of anyone thinking "seems like a terrible way to watch wrestling" when in reality it helps me squeeze value out of something that likely wouldn't and gives me a lens for viewing even the great stuff.
  10. Frankly, not having a bi-monthly zine makes the entire endeavor feel pointless. I need it.
  11. I have literally been reading GWE posts for the past 6 months as it is informative and fun. I know a ton of people got burned out by GWE 2016 but it created one of the best wrestling-related criticism resources. Between the actual list to the wrestler discussions to the broader topics. It makes me genuinely sad to think that whatever the next iteration might be could possibly not have that. I'm fairly certain it will, so not too worried but of all the things that I felt may have been given undue importance last time, having a documented history of these discussions is something that I think is worth preserving and continuing.
  12. I think what Grimmas said previously is probably more the camp I'm in then "People should have to be part of the discussion". It is about creating an environment, systems, and platforms in place that make people want to discuss. That also means that in 5 years if 100 folks that you didn't see participate drop lists into the system, got to let that roll off your back. It isn't ideal but maybe making people want to participate is better than removing folks that don't. And I think "based on footage" is a safe enough metric. Even if it comes with an asterick that "Most folks will be considering in-ring work as their main/sole criteria". I would love for it to just be the latter but sometimes it feels like we get wrapped up in that minutia so much that we spend more time on the rubric than the process. The process is extremely fun!
  13. I wholly disagree, there is no way around circular discussions because of a decent time frame. It isn't a matter of "years of knowledge".
  14. I have seen with some recent projects that having a live chat platform being the main place to articulate your thoughts, you get a lot of circular discussions. Imagine every day being a new discussion on Ric Flair but you can't really avoid it.
  15. Some things have been suggested by others but will jot them down here anyway: Way to catalog recommended matches if possible. Sometimes there would be recommended matches across 5 threads and 20 pages where it became difficult to figure out what to watch despite people sharing their thoughts on the matter In general, give folks more resources. I don't think all of this needs to be an "official" GWE thing, but providing the link of active streaming services, any wrestling review sites/blogs that might be helpful, link to similar projects done in the past (The WWF and ROH lists) Improvements to the Nomintation process. I like the three match rule in theory but that didn't carry over to the actual thread. It stinks cause multiple people have said that they would like tweaks here but folks including myself aren't really able to say concretely what else would be a viable solution. Even if it was a quick 3 sentences on why you might vote for a person and then have that start their thread, that would be helpful I think to start a thread with a dialog in place Start watch parties earlier No anonymous voters but continue to leave it open Have a central hub but it is 2021 so accept early on not conversations will take place there. A lot of folks were mad in 2016 when Parv posted an article on a website that had connections to PWO and was easily acceptable. Acting like he was "hiding" his thoughts or not opening himself up for discussion. And while context matters, if folks want to post their passionate case for Sasha Banks or Akira Maeda on their blog or in a 3 hour podcast, that should be encouraged. As a community we just have to figure out how to allow that to be part of the discussion
  16. Looking back at this and the talk of possibly condensing the period seems in contrast to what everyone I talk to is wanting. I know so many people right now that want to start working towards 2026 right now. Maybe it is too early but I think so many people that did and didn't vote last time want to continue those conversations from 2016. Living in a pandemic, at least for me, has certainly boosted interest. With modern wrestling stinking up the joint bless being morally questionable in a more in-your-face manner. Wrestling has always been bad but not sure we mixed allegations of sexual assault/misconduct by active wrestlers with promotions being active, putting fans and talent in harm's way. A real double whammy of not being totally interested. I have trouble doing anything if it doesn't feel somewhat goal-oriented though. I love watching wrestling...but need something to with that. I watched Shinya Hashimoto vs. The Predator last night and tweeted about it but I want that to feed into something. Essentially right now I'm viewing everything I watch as a piece of the GWE puzzle for me. I have years so I can be broad in my focus. I do want to try and come to some conclusions though for me personally. I feel like a whole group of posters got burned out and that whole other group has gotten energized. Trying to figure out how to outline all my thoughts without some sort of hub at the moment. Don't know if that's blogging or podcasting or something else entirely.
  17. Two big things, first we will have a new podcast joining the feed! Boots and Trunks from former British Wrestling Experience host, Jamesie. Then, Quentin and Tim have started their annual kick-off with a twist, this year breaking down their top 50 wrestlers of the 2010s The inaugural episode of the Boots and Trunks Podcst is here! Jamesie draws a line under what was a challenging 2020 and outlines his plans for the show in 2021. Quentin and Tim are back for the annual PID year end festivities, but this time running down the best wrestlers of the 2010s
  18. Once again back talking about THE most efficient promotion in wrestling history, Wrestling Society X. I'm joined this week by FKA StevieRichardsIsGood AKA doxxxystocksy. We break down episode 4 of the show where instead of talking about the show for most of it we talk about the GOAT, Big Vision Entertainment. Shout out to Clipse and his love/hate relationship with ass tassels, WHO TO FOLLOW:twitter.com/DoxxxyStocksy HOW TO WATCH: www.youtube.com/watch?v=V77ldxikE…=PatricioGuerrero
  19. Got a few more things going on over the past couple of weeks, so lets post that here. On this episode of the Desert Island Comp series, we are joined by long-standing member of the Online Wrestling Community (OWM) and Phoenix Pro Wrestling commentator, Tim Livingston. While he is in an interesting part of his fandom currently, we dig into the comfort food that is his list that taps on all time periods of his time loving the sport of wrestling. CHECK OUT: TIM'S TWITTER: twitter.com/MrTimLivingston We are the Ice Cubes from Sugarland! Back here to talk about the only important thing in wrestling this week yep you guessed it Kenny "The Collector" Omega. His title win, his bad promos, his future as champion, & his best buddy/uncle/groomer? Don "The Virus" Callis. Follow that up with talk about a good match with GCH champion Go Shiozaki defending against "Killing Machine" Takashi Sugiura. Finally the main event of the evening DDT D-King tournament overview.
  20. On the third episode of We Don't Know Wrestling Society X, I am joined by former WASIMCAST GUEST Dan Rice. We break down WSXtra 2 and WSX Episode 3. That means we chat Trailer Park Boyz and WSX getting very sexually charged. NOTE: In this episode, there is a Teddy Hart match so we talk about that. Attempted to talk around someone else last episode and had a harder time here. If that makes you not want to listen totally understand.
  21. Really wish they would bounce that age back to 45 or even 55. Note entirely sure that changes the standard to get in. If Kenny is a HOF guy now, he would be a HOF wrestler later. If that meant possibly resurfacing wrestlers that fell off and were presented before turning 45, I would be okay with that! Load these ballots up. I'm super interested in the candidacy of Kenny right now but think maybe in a decade when we have more info on how AEW plays out, he would at least be fun to discuss. He has layers to his career, is going to be a top guy in 2 of the 5 biggest promotions of the past decade, and one of the more divisive in-ring talents of this era. But that is a less enjoyable conversation when we still don't have much distance from it. Will say I am super happy for Jun who should have been in. The WONHOF feels like the closest thing we have to a HOF for wrestling so will take it when one of the good ones get in.
  22. Episode 2 of the World's Greatest Podcast on the Most Efficient Pro Wrestling Promotion To Ever Exist. It is We Don't Know Wrestling Society X. This week joined by Andy of Pizza Party and backyard wrestling fame. Sorry, no, not that one. We talk the greatness that is Human Tornado and paying someone for an 8x10 because you just feel bad. Follow Andy on Twitter: twitter.com/VerbGagne
  23. Yeah, initially hearing this I thought "this seems absurd!" But honestly if more people are going to submit ballots would love to do a lil' watching and submit a gutcheck ballot. Then when things start building up again in 2024 and I'm past 30 and some folks can start legally drinking, we can start getting this all together.
  24. The world needed a podcast on the greatest wrestling promotion SLASH wrestling tv product in the history of this fine sport. With that, we give you episode #1 of We Don't Know Wrestling Society X. Sam and guest, KrisPLettuce, go through the groundbreaking first episode including a match between two current AEW wrestlers and TNA level gimmick match. 25. I statted this in a Slack group but I feel like this is going to melt my brain. The UWN has been around for about 7 years. It was started by Marquez as he got booted after the whole Pearce vs. Cabana "debacle" for the NWA title. During this time the UWN amounts to essentially squat. The pitch seemed to be that the UWN, well Marquez I guess, had enough connections where he would be able to arrange local TV deals for affiliates. Currently the UWN website lists 3 promotions under the governing body, all Championships Wrestling From, Hollywood, Arizona, and Memphis. Not exactly exciting to see the BRANDING on all three affiliates. Anyway, no World title is established until they gain some sort of access to the NWA belts? I'm just confused on after all this time, why now when all Marquez really wanted was to have his own NWA sort of system. This tournament line-up feels like you are a few months in to your Local to Global TEW challenge run. Heck, if you were attempting to get a TV deal on a low-rent network you might even try and pitch a tournament with 5 former WWE wrestlers that have been on TV the past decade. But good lord, other than that not sure why we are doing this thing.
