  1. Hindsight being 20/20 and all but this just didn't work and went way too long. I think the sit-down segments in the ensuing weeks were much better but still, it was an uphill climb for Jeff this go around.
  2. You'll notice little subtle shots at Bret here and there. Not just during the vile racist angle but like calling Owen the "real Hitman". Vince is a petty man, but, goddammit, he is fascinating.
  3. I don't know why I hated this so much back then, but actually, Marlena does a pretty good acting job here. Although, way too much makeup.
  4. I don't know about the quarter hour breakdown but this RAW only deepened my Seasonal Holiday Depression that year.
  5. You could tell this shit was driving poor JR crazy.
  6. I think this little chunk of segments shows what a wild identity conflict the WWF was going through at the time.
  7. This looked edited all to hell so who knows what kind of immature nonsense hit the proverbial cutting room floor.
  8. I don't get offended much. Bad taste? That's a matter of personal preferences. There are some lines that just shouldn't be crossed. However, the one thing that really just turns my stomach is EGO. This was just about 20 minutes of Clique circle-jerking and flat out obnoxiously adolescent behavior. The Melanie Pillman tease there at the end was one of those afore-mentioned lines that shouldn't have been crossed. So, this was quite the segment.
  9. I have said it before on here somewhere but I think Flash Flanagan is about the most underappreciated and under-used talent in the last twenty years or so. He would have fit in beautifully with the new Indys generation of 2003 to whenever WWE started signing them all up.

  11. This is still one of my favorite RAW moments ever.
  12. Jim's going so fast this time, he's about to hyperventilate.
  13. One wonders how Bill Watts would have handled the Bret-Shawn backstage soap opera. My guess would be lots of screaming and open gunplay
  14. I loved JR's rather sad "What has happened to us?" line.
  15. From what I remember, this one made the USA Network more than a little nervous. It is pretty damn awful. Clearly, the intent would be that Shawn and Hunter outsmarted the Nation to do their dirty work in beating the shit out of the Harts. So just another way Shawn gets over this year. I don't know which is worse. This one or the Melanie Pillman interview. Both made my skin crawl. Guys, what do you think? As fun as the WWF was in 1997, they also weren't afraid of the sleazy.
  16. I wish they'd used "Back in Black" for his music that night. Cheapskates
  17. Who was this Commandant? He certainly looked the part.
  18. Shawn seemed to be inebriated. Since the rules of professional conduct NEVER applied to him, heaven forfend, I certainly wouldn't doubt it.
  19. As completely unnerving as that story is, I think it makes JR's dad a complete cock, not him. Daddy would've probably taken the hammer to poor Jim if he hadn't went along with that one.
  20. Ive never read Page's book but his La Parka impression was spot-on. No one saw this one coming.
  21. Plus, both guys' knees were pretty buggered up at the time. Bret just flat ruled in 1997 and Austin was right there with him.
  22. Yeah, looking back on all this stuff, especially with this little nugget of bitchiness and Bret's night after WrestleMania promo, I'm really on the Hitman's side of this one.
  23. This particular Shotgun was the best of the original six (which, yeah, high praise). By this time, they cordoned the audience back. Earlier in the show, the crowd was RIGHT up against the ring. Helmsley, on his exit, nearly gets into a fight with a drunken Texas and has to be dragged back to the dressing room
  24. Funny to watch in hindsight. I thought they'd go with "Don't Speak" by No Doubt but they were still too cheap back then.
