[1993-08-18-WCW-Clash of Champions XXIV] Ricky Steamboat vs Paul Orndorff
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
I liked this one very much. Two old war horses going out and busting their ass. A row of lights went down after Steamboat blows the fireball and I liked the darker look. Im probably the only one.- 8 replies

[1993-08-18-WCW-Clash of Champions XXIV] Flair for the Gold: The Shockmaster
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
If I recall correctly, Harlem Heat had been on TV prior to this (I want to say on Main Event) but they were relatively unknown. I chuckled at the time that a mere three days previous WCW was in Linton, Indiana at the un-air-conditioned National Guard Armory (Chris Benoit put Erik Watts over clean that night). Anyway, yeah, this was really bad. WCW, at the time, had this horrible habit of throwing us head first into programs that nobody knew were going on. Not one person on WCW had so much as mentioned Fall Brawl much less the War Games or that their would be a mystery partner to War Game with.- 16 replies

The man who, as Michael Cole said "personified energy back in the day" shuffles out of the ring like George friggin Burns.

[1994-10-01-SMW-TV] Interview: Ole & Bryant Anderson
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in October 1994
This was actually taped, just to point it out, in front of the infamous WCW Power Plant. -
Did anyone else find Quack's interview with Alvarez just vomitus? Quakenbush spends 40 minutes spewing each and every pompous, pretentious, theatrical buzzword while Skippy Alvarez sits there dumbfounded, absolutely incapable of wrapping his feeble brain around the useless, fifty-cent bullshit terms Mike is barfing out. Bring Chikara back. Fine. Im okay with that. But, also don't sit there and say you've never insulted the audience's intelligence or sling all the penny-ante arthouse jive you overheard from the smelly loser (who doesn't know either what all this shit means) at the Godard festival.

The Jim Cornette Experience
ajtroma replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Considering Corny shares the same political views that I do, I enjoy it. Enjoy them more than any conversation with that slimy, carny reprobate Bill Dundee any goddamned day. -
Did you get the feeling that if they were in the same room, Dave and Bryan totally would have come to blows last night?

"Rock America" by Danger Danger? I could not believe that one. Danger Danger was a C-level hair band (which, once again, it was never called "hair metal" until well after that era was over) and I don't remember that one being released as a single. I couldn't believe Cornette pulled that one out of his ass.

As I recall, Mean Gene and the legends he interviewed just took a massive shit all over this one right after the match.

Yeah, I remember that place. I believe the joint you're referring to was the Central High School in Liberty, NY. I dig TV shot in high schools.

They actually tried to make this one work, storyline-wise. They played it that Dream Machine and Eddie Gilbert had been lying to Jarrett. They were claiming that Lawler had been knocking Jeff and prevented him from being at Monday Night Memories, etc. Plus, Marlin is Jeff's grandfather and Jeff was furious over Eddie getting beaten up so bad the previous Monday.

They did their best to explain why a camera would catch this criminal act, at least. Yeah, it was contrived as hell but at least they tried. I have a non-ironic love for Zubaz. In fact, one of my senior pictures has a younger, cuter, MUCH thinner me in those red, white and blue Zubaz that Sandman used to don. I had a mullet too. I looked goooooooood. 1991 - 1995: The Glory Years of Zubaz

I love wrestling with danger, controversy and heat. Damn, did the Gangstas bring it. It was topical and New Jack was just brilliant. Compare this to the Hulk Hogan Disney Press Conference bullshit and tell me you wouldn't take this every time.

"Famous Final Scene" was the song they used in Memphis in 1985 for the Lawler-Jimmy Hart Loser Leaves Town match. Dollars to doughnuts says that's why Cornette picked that one. Do Ribera satin jackets come in any normal colors?

I taped RAW in those days (those torturous days of Freshman year) to watch after the CBS Monday night comedies. I flipped over during a Murphy Brown commercial break to see Razor laying in that chop in the corner and tuned back to CBS. "Nothing to see here", I thought.

The HUG was fabulous. Everyone in sight is just sweating profusely. This is the darkest, smallest building that I've ever seen a WWF TV show come from. I like the smaller buildings for TV myself.

[1993-03-20-SMW-TV] Kevin Sullivan vs Yukihiro Kanemura
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in March 1993
I really thought Kevin Sullivan was going to end up as The Sheik of the 90's. I'd read about this in PWI and the rest of the Apter mags and longed to see it (much like the Killer Brooks bloodbaths in Global that ESPN wasn't showing). I finally saw it and it was just as violent and chaotic as I'd imagined. I love the odd coincidence that both this and the Brian Lee Stabbing in November were both taped in Elementary School gyms.- 16 replies

Perhaps he's just terrified we'll discover how many copies of Rhonda Shear Up All Night bumpers he saved... There's a pretty good demand for that stuff as well. Not just at my house, either.
