[1997-02-23-WCW-Superbrawl VII] Hulk Hogan vs Roddy Piper
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
At the time, with my cable company, you could still easily make out the pay per views with older sets. While this match was going on, some relatives stopped by. Their "these guys are still wrestling?" question did make me be embarrassed to be watching. -
[1997-02-03-WWF-Raw] Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin and Sid
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
The lighting here is sub-par, mainly because USA wanted a two-hour show from now on (Robin Hood was beating La Femme Nikita, you see). WWF literally made this a tv taping like 48 hours beforehand. -
There wasn't a delay on the original airing. We got the entire tirade uncensored which was a little surprising at the time. The next week, USA Network overdid it with the delay though.

[1997-09-15-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair face shot / Tony Schiavone reaction
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in September 1997
Flair literally looked like he'd been dead for a few hours there. Quite a disturbing way to open a Nitro. -
[1997-09-20-WWF-One Night Only] Shawn Michaels vs Davey Boy Smith
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in September 1997
I think this one is one of the more bullshitty of bullshit things Shawn got away with. Shawn couldn't slip on the banana peel and put the hometown hero over in front of the guys dying sister? In a country that just lost Princess Diana a couple weeks prior to this (I know Davey Boy going over here wasn't THAT big a deal to equate with Diana dying in a car wreck, but still every little bit helps a rather depressed at the time island)? -
[1997-09-15-WCW-Nitro] Curt Hennig vs Steve McMichael
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in September 1997
Since this was Charlotte, the Horsemen just have to be beaten and humiliated. -
Mason was with both. Bulldog would fire him later that night during the Superstars taping. Owen and Funk had a very good match that was overshadowed by Paul E and Lawler's jabs.

[1997-02-01-WWF-Shotgun Saturday Night] Interview: Headbangers

I believe the mess on Thrasher's arm was a mix of candle wax and Mosh's milky vomit spray. -
[1997-02-13-WWF-Raw Thursday] Shawn Michaels loses his smile
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
He could cry on cue. Give him that. -
[1997-02-13-WWF-Raw Thursday] Rocky Maivia vs Hunter Hearst Helmsley
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
They'd trimmed it a little so it wasn't the complete pineapple thing he had at Survivor Series. They also canned that pancho or whatever the hell that thing was. -
Mike Samples is also noted for booking sub-regional, one town Indys around his own ego resulting in the wrestling equivalent of liquid shit.

Yeah, PeteF3 has this that one. As 1997 progresses, the DX stuff becomes even more immature, dickish and in my view, just lame. I was with Cornette on all this bullshit even back then (and I was 20 at the time). Sadly, things would get worse (way worse) before getting better and then plummeting back into the shitpot of today's current horrendous wrestling scene.

[1997-09-13-ECW-TV] Paul E. Dangerously announcement
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in September 1997
There was talk that Tod was going to come back in around 2000 to be a heel claiming he was the reason Mike Awesome, Chastity, Sandman, Mikey, Lance Storm and all left ECW for WCW -
[1997-09-05-WWF-Friday Night's Main Event] Interview: Steve Austin

I couldn't work a crossbow like that if my very life depended on it. -
Holy shit, the HEAT for this. If somehow Shawn would have broken his leg out there, all of Halifax would have creamed.
-
Tommy's scream is still just sickening. I guess all those cinderblock on his crotch shots didn't make that area stronger.
-
I bloody HATE Earl Hebner's "dramatic" three count cadence.
-
The fact it did as well as it did was a small miracle. For a moment, it looked like better days were finally coming back to Memphis. This did not last long.
-
To be fair, half the audience was probably from Kentucky. But yeah, I was rather ashamed.
-
I thought this was complete bullshit then and actually hate this crap even more today. Kevin Nash is proof that Satan, indeed, sends demons to Earth to spread evil. If you think that's a load of crap, then, okay. But, Nash is a vomitous scumbag.

[1997-09-07-WWF-Ground Zero] Sgt. Slaughter and Jim Ross
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in September 1997
If Austin would have gotten Vince that night, the Louisville Gardens would have crumbled from the effect of 5000 lunatics' pure joy. Louisville is a shithole. -
We have to remember that this particular RAW was in Cincinnati. It would have looked wrong to have the dastardly, family-busting heel getting cheered vociferously.

[1997-09-07-WWF-Ground Zero] Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in September 1997
I was there that night and the crowd was pretty into most of the show. But, man, did it not come across that way on TV. Louisville is a shithole, btw.
