[1990-12-29-WWF-Superstars] Interview: Sgt. Slaughter
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
I still get a little skeezed out by this stuff. But, it does have teeth, unlike that Hassan stuff back in '05 or the Zeb Colter shit of today. There is legitimate, pure hatred by the people here. So, if you are gonna wallow in bad taste, go whole hog, I say. I can only imagine what the sheets were saying about this stuff.- 10 replies

If you look closely at the poster, it clearly has Lawler's handwriting on it. -
[1990-12-29-NWA-Pro] The Freebirds and Lance Russell discuss the year
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
Charles and Lido look strangely familiar. Plus, they looked like they were just dragged out of the Spahn Ranch. -
We start the set with "We Are Dynamite" and end with this. I like how the Warrior kept the belt on the whole time.

[1990-11-24-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Terry Taylor vs Rip Rogers
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
How the hell is this match that guy's #1 WCW Match of the 1990s? I know this is all suggestive and tastes differ and all but really? -
[1990-12-15-WWF-Superstars] Mr Perfect vs Kerry Von Erich

Finkel goes for $500. More than I get for a days work. Fink, I hardly blame you. -

[1990-12-16-NWA Starrcade '90] Sting vs Black Scorpion (Cage)
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
Count me in as another one who thought it was the other two members of PowerTeam USA. I NEVER once, even remotely, snowballs chance in Hell thought for one second that it was the Ultimate Warrior. Never even occured to me. It sure SEEMED like Ole was implying it though. I hope they didnt pay a lot for that spaceship. There's a sentence I dont write everyday. Its obvious to the folks there at the old Kiel, as "whoo"s and chants of "Nature Boy" go up almost instantly. Flair tries his damndest to disguise himself but its just a lost cause. A for effort though. Tell me Flair wasnt a team player and I'll call "bullshit". I kinda enjoyed Ross having a fit at the announcers desk, seemingly giving time cues, trying to alert everyone that time is rapidly running out and lets get this shit over with. Dick the Bruiser grimmaces like he always did and pretty much stayed out of the way. Dick was my great grampas favorite wrestler. Gramps once (and Im not shitting here at all) stabbed a heel in the throat with his umbrella once. I think it was Ivan Koloff just from what Ive been able to piece together but not sure. -
The execution of this was rather putrid as well. We see this lady (possibly Bambi, not sure) just idly walk around the barricade into ringside (right in front of Doug Dellinger) and stand there for like 10 seconds before attacking. Ole never got another booking job exactly why again???

Rip is back from wrestling purgatory (that Maritimes joint) and is Hell on Wheels in WCW! -

[1990-12-01-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Michael Wallstreet vignette
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
A personal idiosyncracy (if thats how you spell it) is I find rings disgusting. I also find long nails gross and tacky. So here we have the talentless, shrill makeup girl/rat slapping on more makeup than Demolition plus about six rings AND blood red Lee Press-Ons and just puke me out! -
Fun match that also has Pork Chop Cash (!) roaming around ringside for no apparent reason.

[1990-11-24-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler & Bill Dundee
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
Lawler pretty much tells us that we're in for long, boring TV tapings at the arenas this week. Yeah, it was kinda of a cooled down week at the arenas but the Christmas season has started and houses are always down until Christmas. -
[1990-11-23-WWF-The Main Event] Ultimate Warrior vs Ted DiBiase
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
Warrior not only hit a sunset flip but remembered to pin down Ted's arms with his legs. Color me surprised. -
[1990-11-21-NWA-Clash of the Champions XIII] Sid Vicious vs The Nightstalker
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
I dont think this is anywhere near the Worst Match of All Time but it is pretty rotten. Been sitting here thinking if its worse than Abby - Zeus. The latter has that "why is this happening" quality that negates it's abundant horribleness. However, Abby - Zeus just wouldnt end. This match here with Sid and Nightstalker was much shorter (I figure Hughes was sent out early because they knew this thing was going nowhere). Sadly though, the Steroid Musclehead phase would continue for a little while after this debacle. You'd think after seeing this fiasco, that trend would have at least cooled off but it didnt. It was a frightening time for the wrestling fan. It looked like matches like these, with the huge immobile human action figures would be the flavor of the day, if not the entire decade. Truthfully, I think that if the Feds hadnt cracked down on Vince, that era would have never ended. -
WWF was actually quite smart in not letting her talk for nearly two years. That voice is seriously grating.

[1990-11-17-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Eddie Gilbert
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
Having a masked man in a Hospital Elimination match is brilliant strategy by the heels. Not only does Lawler's team have to unmask this joker but then they gotta bust him open. Or maybe this is just dumb booking. -
