I had never seen Matty In The House until yesterday. I hate this man. I hate him with the heat of a thousand suns. Did Johnny slip up and call his partner "Rocco Rumble"?

While this was obviously done by the USWA people (I think Randy West was still around), this never aired on any USWA TV show. The footage in question here is from December 1991 - January 1992. Even my 14-year-old dumb ass thought it was awfully suspicious that any surfer would be braving the winter in Mid-America rather than, you know, surfing in sunny El Lay. I also at that time thought Sandman was one of the very worst I'd ever seen.

The guy here was John Gillem, Eddie's good friend/loyal stooge. John followed Eddie anywhere. Eddie even put John in the main event in Dothan, Alabama one time. A real problem with this early ECW stuff is that they have more tv time to fill than they had shows to promote. Some TV tapings every three months and a big show here and there. That's really not a whole lot to work with here. Even though Eddie is one of my very favorites, I have to be honest here: This ECW run was not his best stuff. Eddie also saw Tod Gordon as just another money-mark to suck dry, have a little fun, get some of his friends and old favorites a payday here and there and split.

A Troma "cantaloupe filled with cranberry sauce and hamburger and has a frowny face painted on it" squishing close-up would have made this the greatest thing ever.

What is the real story about the match at Fall Brawl between the two (that didnt happen)? The story I heard way back then was that Bagwell, furious that he was asked to put someone over, hid in his truck and pouted all night. They sent Duggan in, who refused to sell and Berlyn was doomed from there.

Corny also had the neckbrace on during their appearance on Regis & Kathy Lee that morning, referring to some trouble he's having down in Knoxville. The real problem here is Yokozuna just cannot do a long main event match. It's amazing really he was able to do as much as he could but there was a morbid fear watching him out there after more than like 6 minutes.

[1993-08-29-USWA-Mid-South Coliseum] Bret Hart vs Jerry Lawler (Cage)
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
Corey wont get any better either. Who can forget when the Orient Express came in and he didnt know Kato's name, referring to him only as "That Big Guy"? Razor Ramon will end up defending the "International" title when he rolls in. Terry Gordy does a run-in during the USWA-SMW run and he literally has no idea who that is. The timekeeper can be heard clueing him in. Happy viewing. -
The announcer in question here was named Tony Friedman. The word I heard why the guys didnt like him (Lawler particularly) was that we was Kevin Lawler's roommate while also openly gay. Pretty lame reason if you ask me.

I will never forget this one. I still get the goosebumps watching it. And Oh, to have seen Hogan's face watching this...

I was once considering ordering both the 1998 & 1999 Yearbooks sets. Those years, for me, are a tad murky. But, reading about all the Russo-phlemic stuff not just in WCW but in WWF as well, I reconsidered. Some things are best left forgotten. So, Loss, you really ought to be mad at Russo. He actually cost you money.

Yup, pretty sure Jennifer was Jeff's baby sister.

[1993-03-20-SMW-TV] Kevin Sullivan vs Yukihiro Kanemura
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in March 1993
I wouldnt worry what the station owners or program directors' reactions. That was somebody else's problem. Plus, having spent a good deal of time in broadcasting, I can tell you that those guys are the scum of the earth. If the sales team could sell ad time for mules farting the Pledge of Allegiance, they'd run it.- 16 replies

From what I remember, the Bluegrass Brawl footage was longer (and far more important for the TV show) than anticipated and so this got cut down. Sometimes, things like that happened. The TBS Saturday Night show was notorious for starting big main event matches and then leaving the air, with the match never mentioned again. They probably should have done this or that, but, they had other priorities and Bobby was leaving anyhow.

There was a major Gay Pride parade in New York the day before this show. This is what Shawn was referencing which caused the "Shawn is Gay" chants.

Simply Divine would be Rex King & Steve Doll, soon to hit the USWA and later, WWF as "Well Dunn"

[1993-02-20-SMW-TV] Tracy Smothers vs The Nightstalker
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
I remember Tracy once saying that this angle worked so well in the area that the sponsors of the house shows (i.e. the Vol. Fire Departments, Civic groups which were all full of Klan members) told him that if he ever needed help with DWB, they'd be there for him. Just because White Boy torched the Rebel Flag. Thank God the Gangstas never pulled that trick.- 11 replies

By the time Dundee came back, the rapping was way in the distance. You will see a lot of parallels with John Cena & PG 13

[1993-02-06-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler, Downtown Bruno and Howard Finkel
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
The theory is that the whole Finkel being beat up and stretchered out that night was just so Vince and the office staff could watch it and laugh at staff parties. Memphis TV was the only place where that made air.- 14 replies

[1993-01-23-USWA-TV] Honky Tonk Man and Jeff Jarrett
ajtroma replied to Loss's topic in January 1993
Of course, this lead to...nothing. Honky never wrestled Jeff in the main towns and only worked Buddy Wayne's spot shows. A couple weeks later, Jeff entered a program with "The Rock n Roll Phantom" whom, I think, the promoters wanted us to think it was Honky, but it was obviously Don Bass in a mask.- 11 replies

I don't know where wrestlingdata.com got their info, but trust me as someone who was around these parts back then, that didn't happen. The only Bill Dundee sighting the whole time he was in WCW was in about January 1994. WCW has a casino-sponsored show in Tupelo and Dundee made a cameo to plug it on Memphis TV. This was during a Lawler interview which was odd seeing Lawler plug a WCW show, even while on "hiatus" from the WWF for his legal problems at the time.

Well, the Fabulous Ones did make a fortune and got tons of ass doing videos like this one. So...yeah...there's that...good point, me!
