Motor City Machine Guns vs American Wolves from 2CW is good if only to see how much more polished the Guns and the Wolves are out of their respective bad environments (TNA's under-reliance on tag team wrestliing and ROH's over-indulgence of the worst parts of Richards and Edwards.)

Does Chikara count as indy? Because if it does, Gargano\Taylor vs Kotoge\Harada from Burlington, NC is fun. Quackensaw vs Ares\Claudio for the tag belts means a lot if you get the backstory, but the work is solid enough without it. I'm trying to narrow down my favorite PWG tag match and i think Tozawa\Steen vs the Bucks at one of the DDT's is also spectacular.

He's the guy in the group who's a singles Champ so he should look a little different than the Tag Champs in the trio. That, and he's been hitting the gym like nuts and should be showing it. I never noticed that before. In much the same way, I never noticed how lame Kofi's tights have perpetually been. Almost since the start of his career.

I was really underwhelmed by that when I watched it too, I thought I was the only one. The good news is that it is the worst part of their feud, from vague memory all the Best of 5 matches are good, and the 2/3 Falls final is excellent. I'm going to look those up. Because, quite frankly, the Guns give me a vibe like they wanted to be a really slick tag team. And against Beer Money, who are these roughhouse brawling guys, it really works. It's the tag version of Whitaker vs Chavez.

I'm watching the Motor City Machine Guns vs Beer Money from Victory Road 2010. It's funny how much better this would have been if, for instance, Jim Cornette was around to give this some structure that it needs.

You can't beat that.

fave 5. 1: Mike Quackenbush. I'm not going to lie, there's something about his work that draws me in. The Quackensaw tag team especially is quality wherever you can find it. 2: Motor City Machine Guns (do tag teams count? If not, I'll fix this later.) One of the great crimes of TNA is that Vince Russo's fetish for running tag splits took us away from what could have been a truly awesome reign as tag champs, including a awesome war with Beer Money. 3: Ricky Steamboat. I e-fed a lot, and whenever people ask me how a babyface is supposed to act, I say him. Plus, the Steamboat-Flair series is what pro wrestling should be. 4: Bryan Danielson. Even though WWE doesn't do weight classes, he is perhaps the most complete jr. heavyweight I can remember seeing. There's nothing he can't do at a world-class level. It's brilliant. 5: Brian Pillman. The first wrestler I really enjoyed watching, and the guy who became my gateway into the NJ Juniors.

In what is a poor segue, who had the best ring gear amongst female wrestlers? Mariko Yoshida comes to mind for some reason.

the black Flair robe is money. Side note: I am dying for someone to do a real boxing trunks ripoff. The times it's been done before, it's like filtered through the Golden Age of Boxing stuff. You mean to tell me Dolph Ziggler couldn't pull off something like what Meldrick Taylor wore to the ring against Chavez?

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

Pibb Xtra is totally better than Dr. Pepper. It's smoother and has a subtle note of cinnamon that's really nice. We can only get those at the Five Guys here in Brooklyn. That, plus Cajun Fries, is something I have to try. -

interesting thing I noticed watching an old America's Most Wanted dvd I had lying around: TNA might be a shitty promotion, but until they decided they wanted to be the Mr. Pibb to WWE's Dr. Pepper, they were at least a promotion with a unique view. I miss that about TNA, and frankly I think it's something they should try and get back to. Side note: Also, the redoing of a proper World X Cup wouldn't be the worst thing anyone thought of either. -
Well, those are simple things. And there's always a place for that. I actually think the simplistic ring gear works best in Japan, where something simple like the Rising Sun tights Kikuchi wore stand out more.
-
Another example of the Best: HHH's purple tights with the crossed swords. Something about that seemed awesome. closest example I could find:

You want me to have no happiness, JVK? I made mint iced tea and now I have to glower at my computer because of this.

There's something that feels right with Macho Man in the trunks with the stars. Especially because of the Wrestlemania 4 masterwork where he changed colors for every match.
-
Oh god. I completely forgot about that. I think that was the worst thing I ever saw.
-
Um... What's the Um for? Couldn't find a good pic of it at Wrestlemania 7, and so I found this from survivor series instead. Fair enough. 90 and 91 was an interesting time for the WWF design-wise, the gear was becoming more and more colorful and their overall aesthetic was changing to reflect the new decade. Yeah. Everything seemed brighter, which folded right into the Attitude era where wearing bright colors became an insult. And because I thought about it, perhaps no tag team breakup had a greater effect on a wrestler than the Strike Force breakup had on Tito Santana. He wore those same trunks from Wrestlemania V all the way through to the El Matador repackaging.

This is absolutely true. Like that's the one galling thing about the AJ tag team era.
-
Didn't even notice those. Also, for another best: AJ Styles pretty much for the entire Biker Shorts run. he somehow managed to make that look like something a star would do. http://www.wrestleenigma.com/wp-content/up...6/aj_styles.jpg

See, that never bothered me. I think it was because the Rockers were supposed to be like a young, cool team for the 1990's. (Roddy Piper constantly calling them the Team of the 1990's helped with this.)

There was one where he was with about 30 dudes, proclaiming that he was in a gang too. That whole era of WWE was weird as hell. Also, another best: America's Most Wanted and their ring jackets. How they managed to get that little swatch of the American Flag, and key parts to both members of the team, on a ring jacket is beyond me. Edit: Here's an example of what I mean:

The less we discuss that Ahmed Johnson picture, the better we will be.
-
I actually liked the Huss stuff much more than I did the hot-pink Pleather stuff he was wearing when he was with Lacey, and even more than the AOTF era.

I'll see if I can find some to go with the ones I picked for Best. I am going to try my level best to block worst out of my mind.
