[1992-03-15-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Roddy Piper and Bret Hart
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
Less then a year ago, Piper was doing commentary when Bret won the IC title at Summerslam. Now, he's defending the title against Bret at Wrestlemania. I never made that connection before. This felt a little staged but Piper is so great that it ended up being great. Bret pulling his straps down was comical.- 11 replies

When the heel is holding the ropes during an abdominal stretch and the ref kicks his arm away, always cracks me up.

[1992-03-14-WCW-Saturday Night] Ricky Morton vs Brian Pillman
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
Match was alright, lots of limb work than a quick finish. Went longer than I expected. Brad Armstrong said they were "moving like cats out there." Morton hits Pillman's knee on the ringpost then puts Pillman in the figure four on the other knee. I like the intensity while in the hold by both guys. A few minutes later Pillman is running the ropes fine. He uses the same pin he used to beat Liger at the PPV, Morton had trouble getting into position.- 10 replies

Rip Rogers is wearing some amazing sunglasses and is still upset about not getting paid for all his squats. Tim Horner is apparently loved by these fans and gets a hug from an old lady in the front row who looks a lot like my grandmother in 1992. People in the crowd appear to be holding foam lightning bolts, was this a gimmick actually being sold? I feel like Horner should be wearing white trunks & boots, the colorful gear he has on really doesn't match his personality. Match was fine, the finish was surprising. Not just a sunset flip, but Rip was holding onto the ropes for dear life before losing his grip and getting flipped over and pinned.

[1992-03-14-SMW-TV] Interview: Ron Wright & Dirty White Boy
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
This was pretty cool, having the DWB involved in two storylines in two companies playing different characters on the same day. Ron Wright is such an interesting character to me, what he's doing is unlike anything I've ever seen before in wrestling. I really like when he shows up.- 11 replies

[1992-03-14-USWA-TV] Eric Embry and Dirty White Girl
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
Poor scheduling on USWA's part, having the Dirty White Girl come out to speak at ringside right before Eric Embry's match. DWG does a horrible promo, Embry comes out and harasses her. Embry's glee after pushing himself onto the DWG was weird, he almost seemed like a bit of a simpleton who really thought she liked him, instead of the sleazy dirtbag he's supposed to be.- 10 replies

Amazed that I recognized Nailz's voice immediately. I probably haven't seen anything with Nailz since it originally aired 20+ years ago. Looking back, it's interesting how this feud went from the first promo in March all the way until the first match between Nailz and Boss Man at Survivor Series. Today, this would be a two month program, if that.

More talk about clubbing seals! Was this a hot news topic in 1992 that I'm not aware of? How far in advance did Jake know he was leaving? I've been wondering how much of him pushing the line in these promos was because he was on the way out and a little more willing to say things that he otherwise might not have.

[1992-03-14-WWF-Superstars] Update: Wrestlemania Press Conference highlights
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
First thing you see is an ad for Super Wrestlemania on SNES. I got that game not long after it came out and hated it. The followup, Royal Rumble, was probably my favorite video game as a kid. Loved Flair and McMahon. Vince's reactions to the stuff Flair was saying was hilarious. "Let me assure you McMahon, the temperature in her pool is second to none." !- 10 replies

I watched this match a week ago and have been struggling to comment on it since. There just wasn't much to be said. It was a fine match that lasted longer than needed and never got to the point where it grabbed my attention. Solid, but I don't need to watch again.

[1992-03-08-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Interview: Jake Roberts
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
Jake Roberts might be the best ever at cutting these diabolical promos. The imagery used to describe what he was going to do to the Undertaker was incredible. A gold medal in seal clubbing!- 10 replies

[1992-03-07-WCW-Saturday Night] Public Service Announcement: Brian Pillman
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
Pillman has seen the heartbreak and despair for a young athlete and his family who has to go through a career ending suspension thanks to steroids. WCW was certainly trying to distance themselves from the controversy the WWF was embroiled in at the time.- 8 replies

So much greatness in this clip. Venturas hair. Rudes outfit. The DA in tuxes. The brawl was good and looked like a legit fight between the two. Good thing Koloff just happened to be in Milwaukee to back Sting up.

Bischoff is treating this like he is doing a report for 60 Minutes or something. The Liger/Pillman clip was strange. The action that aired was a crucifix into a pin attempt, they could have shown 10-15 other things that were more exciting. It also seemed to cut out some of Ventura's commentary, why that was the clip that was shown is a mystery. I liked DDP here.

Tim Horner, what a jerk! I cannot see why this would be a babyface move. Rogers flailing on the ground trying to get up was hilarious.

Skinny Bob Holly sighting! He benefits from some Ron Wright interference. Bob Armstrong is dressed like my grandpa. Ron Wright plays the helpless old man card, one which I've seen people use at my job before so it was nice seeing Bob Armstrong put him in his place. You know Wright will return with someone to manage.

[1992-03-07-SMW-TV] Interview: Rip Rogers & Dutch Mantell

My God, the fans they show here. I'm looking forward to more for SMW just to see more crowd shots! Rip Rogers doing squats for the WHOLE HOUR is great.- 10 replies

Embry's eye is still in bad shape. Good promo, I like picturing Embry searching his home for items to hold up as weapons before taping this.

[1992-03-07-USWA-TV] The Moondogs vs Jerry Lawler & Koko B Ware
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
The world title feud was between Koko Ware and Kamala?!? Oh my. Ware apparently agrees to double duty, a Moondog interferes in his first match and accidentally decks Kamala with a garbage can. Kamala, it can be presumed, tears a door off the hinges backstage and storms down to ringside with the door, which ceases to be a door after colliding with a few Moondogs. More wild USWA brawling, the Moondogs continue to collect enemies. -
[1992-03-07-WWF-Superstars] Sid Justice vs Mickey Jay
xlynwoodx replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
Not a fan of Wippleman. I don't think Sid needed him, he works fine as a guy who was felt betrayed by Hulk Hogan and is lashing out. The post match stuff felt like the stuff a debuting heel would do, not a guy about to battle Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania.- 12 replies
