  1. I've been to plenty of ECCW shows, does anyone know of any wrestling promotions that run from BC to Oregon? Looking to do a road trip to watch some wrestling but the internet hasn't helped me in my search.
  2. Chris Benoit & Owen Hart would have been the best possible Canadian tag team at that time from who was available but I would have loved for Leo Burke to somehow have been included.
  3. Good call on Bart over Billy, I hated Billy's punches and he always seemed to botch his drop toe holds.
  4. Al Kaissie was always billed as being from Iraq. (Except when he was Billy White Wolf of course)
  5. Ask him who his favorite manager to work with was.
  6. I have always preferred Animal to Hawk and I've noticed that this is probably the team with the most variation on who people prefer. There are some obvious choices like Bret to the Anvil, Bobby to Stan or Dennis so I'm more interested in the teams that are seemingly closer to equal. I prefer Sags to Knobs, Afa to Sika, Rick Steiner to Scott Steiner. There are some where it varies, sometimes I prefer Enos to Bloom, other times it's Bloom who I think is better. I think Samu was initially the better worker between he and Fatu but Fatu passed him near the end of their run together. I'll take Tully slightly over Arn but could see a case for the Enforcer. I always had a soft spot for Moondog Spike cause I saw him getting wins for Savoldi's ICW while Spot was a JTTS in the WWF.
  7. The main reason why the Slaughter match doesn't get much love is that the outcome is never in doubt. I don't think there was a fan in the world who bought Slaughter retaining. Part of the appeal of wrestling matches is buying near falls and possible outcomes. This is why most Hogan matches suffer in my eyes, you know he's gonna win so there's no suspense. When pitted against another super face, there is some doubt and thus you're able to get into the match a little more.
  8. I remember losing my shit for the Haku LJN figure, I was usually really good at snooping & that one alluded my hunt. Also, I had never seen it in any of the local stores so I thought it would have the outdated King Haku motif going by the ads around that time in the wrestling mags.
  9. A fun drinking game would be to take a shot every time El-P references Dean Malenko in a match Dean is not involved in, almost comes across as "masturbatory"
  10. I'm partial to 92 due to matches getting so much time and the work was second to none.
  11. As far as in ring work is concerned, if someone works a variety of different styles in different promotions I will take that into account. Rocky & Taker only worked WWE style and due to that I couldn't rate either ahead of guys who were good in other promotions.
  12. I'd have Austin & Michaels above him but he's safely above Taker & The Rock. I will always rate guys higher who were able to get over in a variety of different environments while Taker & Rock were WWE exclusive.
  13. Harley's opinion of Lawler might be negative due to Jerry suing the WWF over the King moniker.
  14. I never got into Tommy Rich or Eddie Gilbert, they simply never did anything for me. It may have been due to being introduced to them as JTTS with NWA/WCW but when I watch their other stuff I am always more impressed with someone else in their angles. Watts, Lawler, Idol, Buzz, but never Wildfire or Hot Stuff.
  15. Demolition held the WWF straps three times and were the main focal point for the division during two very hot years for the company. They could at least be in the discussion.
  16. Lots of excellent replies. With regards to some of the other wrestling vocations, I would say Chris Cruise was the most boring announcer. Babyface Teddy Long was the most boring manager. The Godwinns were a good shout for most boring tag team. Dark Journey is my pick for the most boring valet. Ted Dibiase was the most boring colour commentator.
  17. I've always been a huge fan of Larry, my fandom for peaked during his run as AWA champ, he could get a watchable match out of any opponent. The only peer I can think of for pure heel hate was Tully Blanchard. Larry could be teamed with Arn, Rude or whoever and you can bet the chant you'd hear would be "Larry Sucks" I know he gets a lot of flack for his stalling techniques but I think it was used effectively because fans who otherwise would just be going along with the show or bored would be actively rooting for whoever Larry was up against to just kick his ass, thus an effective heel. I love Larry's promos. He always sounded intelligent & like he believed everything he was saying, which is integral for a wrestler. Naturally everyone loves the Regal matches, which other matches stand out? Someone needs to make a comp, hint hint.
  18. I'd throw in the WWF syndie 6 man of Money Inc. teaming up with Doink versus The Steiners & Tatanka. As an extra, the introduction of the Michael Wallstreet character. In those vignettes he played smarmy quite well.
  19. Rude was slated to go face against Vader and it would have been all sorts of awesome. I know it's been said to death about everyone from Dr. D. To Badnews but I really think Rude would have been a predecessor to the Stone Cold shtick. Hogan neutered everything around him. I could see Rude having an Austin like hissyfit leading to an ECW launch pad to a New Generation Stone Cold type character who would have gotten over huge against Diesel in a snark heavy crowd not unlike Sid against Shawn circa SS96.
  20. Regal & Axel are great mentions. Crush as well for that horrible WCW run as well as his run with Fuji when he was feuding with Luger. Lex Luger from post Wrestlemania X until he left the WWF was woefully boring too. Tatanka was another guy who I won't be rushing to buy a comp of. Although I did not mind his comeback stuff in 06.
  21. I think placement on the card really counts with regards to believability of near falls. For instance, as good as Brad Armstrong was, no one was buying his pin attempts on Austin in 94 for example. The great thing about the midnights was they stooged enough that you could buy a lower ranked team beating them but were over enough to justify going over super teams like the Roadies or The Steiners.
  22. I was thinking it's a toss up between B. Brian Blair & Brian Adias with Mike Rotundain the discussion. Are there any other candidates I'm overlooking?
  23. I recently did a top 30 list for guys who I enjoy. My top 5. 5. Rick Rude 4. Steve Austin 3. Stan Hansen 2. Randy Savage 1. Bret Hart
  24. I think a contender for worst performance in a main event has to be Jeff Hardy when he was in no condition to perform against Sting. Also any Andre match post 1990 has got to be in the discussion.
