I really liked Sting's part in this. And I agree that Savage looks really horrible just kowtowing to Hogan after all he endured during the initial part of the nWo angle. I take Bischoff and Hogan's bravado about Schiller as more of a heel lie than any kind of truth.

I was wondering why they had a bunch of no-name guys the crowd had no interest at all in come out for this. I will admit that it is indeed ballsy, as was most of the early nWo stuff. This seemed like a stinker from conception though. They really did kill a hot crowd.

[1997-03-03-WCW-Nitro] Eric Bischoff and Harvey Schiller
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in March 1997
I really enjoyed this, but I thought Schiller was the wrong guy for it. You can literally see he doesn't want to be on TV. The idea behind the segment is solid and Bischoff really carried it.- 7 replies

LOVED the Lawler vs. Heyman stuff. The match is fine for a garbage match.
-
I also did not get the finish. Looked like a Roadies squash to me from the get-go.
-
I'll agree. Lawler showing his ass made this for sure.

[1997-02-24-WCW-Nitro] Lex Luger & The Giant vs Harlem Heat

What a great segment. Bischoff is slimy, Luger is both smart and into it. Sting is mysterious. Wonderful stuff all around. -
I love the way the announcers put this over. They leave no doubt that the nWo is stronger than it has ever been. I'd say it also freshens up the nWo as well as Savage.

[1997-02-24-WCW-Nitro] Diamond Dallas Page vs David Taylor

What a great start to a feud. I barely remember this stuff, so I'm very much looking forward to it. -
[1997-02-24-WCW-Nitro] Eddy Guerrero & Chris Jericho vs Meng & Barbarian

Faces of Fear are all-time favorites for me and this match showcases why. They are huge, powerful monsters who know how and when to show ass just enough to let their smaller opponents look good. I really wish WCW had put them in more matches like this. -
[1997-02-23-WCW-Superbrawl VII] Hulk Hogan vs Roddy Piper
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
I can see all the explanations making sense. I can also see this actually putting more questions about the Sting character in the mind of viewers despite him not being around for this specific finish. Either way, they could have done way more for letting people know what happened. Not a great finish. -
[1997-02-23-WCW-Superbrawl VII] Dean Malenko vs Syxx
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
I thought this was one of Malenko's better PPV matches since early 96. Syxx really brought a lot of good stuff here (from what little I saw) that covered up some of the thigns Malenko has not gotten right in the past. Finish is iffy at very best and probably woefully bad. -
Much better match than I expected with Bret working on top in a very believable way against Sid. The finish was obvious from the booking of the earlier parts of the show, but it doesn't distract from the match.

Lawler and Heyman actually do hate each other from my understanding. Didn't that stem from Lawler always putting down ECW?
-
How soon before hey lose Gorilla? He absolutely does not fit. Austin fixating on Bret is leading us down a glorious road.
-
I have really come around to Hogan as a promo. He's got that coked out, 1980s style that Piper has but with enough discipline to make it work in a shortened amount of time.
-
This made no sense at all. Wouldn't you destroy that tape???
-
Crazy Piper promo that sounds legit, check. But the whole Alcatraz thing is super weird and completely unbelievable. Still, Roddy can sure cut a (not a) promo.

[1997-02-17-WCW-Nitro] Steven Regal vs Prince Iaukea

Obvious copy of the Rock thing in the WWF and I agree that it was a dumb thing to do. Raw is a mess and they are throwing everything at the wall in hopes that something sticks. Why copy that? -
[1997-02-17-WCW-Nitro] Steve McMichael vs Hugh Morrus
dawho5 replied to SirEdger's topic in February 1997
I have no memory of the Mongo/Jarrett match coming up at SuperBrawl, but I haveto think there is some sort of ulterior motive for HughMorrus to be working over Mongo's leg. Not a great match, but probably Mongo's most coherent one to date. -
Sid also looked really tepid out there. Kind of a mess of a segment and I'm happy I didn't have full Raw's for the last few weeks. Does not look like much good is going on at the high end and midcard has been a mess on Raw for a while.
