He was in all three original Indy movies, Willow, Kevin Costner's Robin Hood, Never Say Never Again and Conan the Destroyer... Pretty cool filmography :-) Move over, Dwayne Johnson :-)
-
And it's not Honky himself who voted, 'cause then he'd be higher... What a waste of time it would be to go through the process of filling out the list just to troll we happy few, we band of nerdy brothers. ... If it was a troll vote, wouldn't there be other equally insane choices already? I think it could be a serious vote and that's way more scary :-)

#14 Since others are taking guesses, I'll take a shot here for Randy Savage. Guys like Steamboat and Savage would be my guess as well. ... What about Eddie or Rey? Did they top lists?

And that's a much better (and shorter...) way of putting it. So I'd rather hear the answer to that than to my post :-)

GOTNW... I hear you. I know that's the reasoning from those who don't rank the "obligatory" names. But that's specifically why I don't much care for the arguments for putting down a Misawa for instance, but making a case for the 100(!!!!) guys people who don't rank think are really better wrestlers. ... I'm not that into lucha (not really at all actually), but I've sat through hours and hours of footage for this and I can't seriously make the claim that 100 guys are better than Necro Casas, EHDS, Satanico and some others, so I have a lot of them listed. I have two joshi wrestlers, and that's a direct result of me not having seen enough to fairly rank more. And I think that's a pretty good argument. But I doubt a lot haven't seen at least 10+ Flair, Misawa, Funk etc. matches. ... Look, I don't really care who people rank. It's all fine and their business. No sweat. But I would always love to hear the reasoning why 100 guys are considered so good that they're ranked higher than a Michael Jordan in a top 100 basket players, a Van Gogh in painters or a Beethoven etc. ... I get that people (including me) could be uneducated on a Volk Han (or just haven't seen the light), but surely that's not the case with a Ric Flair or the like. Fair enough if you've rated on favorites, then we've just done it differently. Flair's not my #1 favorite, and you could probably still easily ridicule my list and tear it to pieces. That's not my point. I just can't, for the life of me, see 100 wrestlers objectively being better. If I hated Flair I'd probably still have to at least rank him in my top 50. I know a lot of people don't really like a Bret Hart, but still acknowledge his abilities and career and have him in their top 100. ... Again: I really have no personal problem with people leaving anybody off or including anyone (I have a couple of ridiculously personal choices that I have precious few good arguments for including). I just don't understand it :-) ... I've rambled on long enough about it and JvK has made the argument often and better than me anyway, but thanks for sharing your thoughts and reasoning :-)

I know the lists are never gonna be 100% objective (would be both impossible and a little boring), but Flair is still interesting in this thread to me. I have him high. Really high. I totally get someone not liking him or at least not loving him and dropping him from their top 5, top 10 or even top 20 for whatever reason. But can someone (anyone) seriously make a case for Flair (or Funk, Jumbo, Misawa etc.) not being one of the 100 greatest wrestlers of all time (that we have a decent amount of footage of)? Since no one is on every single list, someone must have come to that conclusion with these guys. Otherwise it's just a protest vote, which fortunately won't matter much in the big picture, but is just... Oh well... Don't want to hear bad excuses for disliking Flair etc., but damn I'd be interested in the solid, serious, well thought through arguments that 100 guys were better :-)

Like you, Dylan, a number of my 101-200 guys have fallen off now. None of my top 100 yet (I must be boringly mainstream). ... Expanding the lists from 100 to 200 (or all the nominees) would change things a lot for this part of the total rankings. ... On the other hand, I found it increasingly hard placing guys in specific spots once I got past the first 40 or so. Can't imagine that it wouldn't be slightly random who would be my #175 and #184 say. Will be fun in 2026 though ;-)

I love the text on the Hans Schmidt picture... "Hans Schmidt... He can annoy you..."

Lowest ranked wrestler with a number one vote?
Danish Dynamite replied to Timbo Slice's topic in 2016
Laugh... and cry... -
Agree. Could even see an argument for the possibility of ranking every nominee. If there's some of the nominated wrestlers you don't know (I definetelye didn't know all of them...) or didn't feel like you'd seen enough of to rank, you'd just leave them off the list. Ditto if you don't feel comfortable voting for a Benoit or someone else. ... Doing a Top 100 was probably the right decision for this project, but we all seem to love these lists and rankings and the level of detail, so could have worked... Still, this project is already so fucking awesome and so much fun :-D

I hear you. I've been very impressed by his 70's stuff recently... Really wanted to not count the worst parts of people's careers against them, if they had great peaks, and I think this could help a lot of the 70's guys if I was to do this list again and got to see more footage of them. A lot of very cool stuff from that period, including Jones.

You know it's ironic, all the 100s of shows I've done, and I put such genuine love into those five, and I don't think I've ever had heat like that before (or actually even heat at all!). I find it funny really. I also think that Marty, Pete and Loss each put forward damn good cases for him in their respective parts. And it is also clear that Will "lost" the debate episode I know elliot is joking too btw, a wind-up merchant. -------------------------- In other news, I'm offering a reward for anyone who can get me the name of the OTHER Tom Zenk voter! Haha, yeah. When some people come up against a winning argument they get aggressive. It's hooliganism, I tell you! :-D

To me the biggest upset so far is someone seemingly intelligent claiming to have dropped Flair from his top 5 all the way to #9, not because of anything Flair did or didn't do, but because he was annoyed by JvK's five-part podcast on him. Good thing I know it MUST be a joke, Elliot ;-) ... If anything, that series confirmed my position for him :-) As for that penis-grabbing wrestling style... Holy hell that's stupid. But gotta love that someone lives it. I just wish I'd nominated the Gobbledygooker now...

Props to Steven! This reveal of the results (including the pictures) is almost even more fun than catching up on hours of wrestling and putting the list together!

DeBeers / Wiskowski... I wonder which wrestler could actually have an obscure enough alter ego, so he could have snuck onto the nominations list twice :-)
-
I'm starting to feel I might not be too. That would suck! Right? Since you have access to the lists: I was considering switching my #5 and #6 right up til deadline, but that wouldn't have changed not being the high vote on anyone :-) ... Maybe I should have nominated and championed my countryman, Eric the Red :-D :-D :-D ... Look out for him in 2026!!!
-
Hmmm. That might be a regret for me... Not including John Tenta... I cut him off at about #125, but he could have gotten a sentimentality vote from me. Glad he's getting some love though! Looking at the names coming up now, I'm getting a feeling I might not be the high vote on anyone... That already makes me feel so boring and conventional. Damn. Fingers crossed though :-)
-
Yeah, I considered Fulton. He was on my 150 name shortlist. ... By the way, so was Chicky Starr, and I'm another who started checking out Puerto Rico thanks to El Boricua and the others on the podcast. So thanks for that. I didn't quite have the time to go really deep on that area and give them a fair chance of ranking. But I'll be seeking out a lot more Puerto Rico and that's something at least :-) Maybe it'll show in 2026 ;-)

Holy s#ۤ... From the names you guys are mentioning here I guess there could be som big surprises in the final rankings... Sure, some will be disgusted by a few names I have very high, but other than that, I think my main omissions are a couple of WoS guys, joshi talent (I have only two on my list), golden era (5-10 matches generally just wasn't enough for me to rate on), and I probably have left off some post-2000 names (especially indie workers) that some will cry about. Will might roll his eyes at me leaving off Dick Murdoch. So it's mainly names like Randy Orton, Kurt Angle and the like that I've not included, and I'm really ok with that...

Grimmas (and all others involved in organizing, planning and promoting via the board or the podcasts): Thank you! This has been one hell of a ride, and it's nowhere near over! Can't wait for the final lists to be revealed and then debated endlessly (and that's a good thing!) here and on the numerous shows. Nothing wrestling related post-2000 could have rekindled my fandom as well as this project and the effort you guys have put into it!

Just turned in both singles and tag ballots. Getting excited :-)

[GWE] Jack of All Trades vs Doing One Thing Exceptionally Well
Danish Dynamite replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
Hansen is my highest ranking "only did one thing" guy. And I agree with Elliott's reasoning why. -

Had to wait to see what my list ended up like to comfortably join this (possibly very important) thread. It turns out that for me, it's definetely not a question of finding things to "punish" a guy for not being able to do. Generallly flaws are not going to matter much in my ranking. Everyone starts at 0. Then positives will add more and more to someones case, with there not being a limitation on how many "points" they can score. So the best at one thing might score enough points for that one thing, if it's a thing that matters enough to me and he's that good at it, to rank really high. But realistically he'll be overtaken by someone who excells at something important AND is great at other stuff too. So Morton and Steamboat will go way higher than more versatile guys, but they won't be nr 1.
