  1. I just wanted to drop in and let everyone know I just finished writing a book along with Doug Gilbert about his brother "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert. A lot of great insight from the brother of a man who was WAY before his time in the pro wrestling business. Anyone who was a fan of "Hot Stuff" or who wants to learn more about this life will really enjoy this. It's available to pre-order now at www.tinyurl.com/EddieGilbertBook The book will ship on May 25th! Here's the release: Thomas Edward Gilbert Jr. (August 14, 1961 - February 18, 1995) better known by his ring name "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert, was an American professional wrestler and booker. Gilbert started his wrestling career for the Continental Wrestling Association in 1977, using the ring name Tommy Gilbert Jr. and winning the AWA Southern Tag Team Championship with his father in 1980. He later moved to the World Wrestling Federation in 1982, working a storyline as the protégé of Bob Backlund until leaving the company in 1984. He found his greatest success in Memphis, teaming with Tommy Rich to form "Fargo's Fabulous Ones" and winning the AWA Southern Tag Team Championship. Gilbert eventually turned heel and feuded with Rich as well as Jerry Lawler. He moved to Mid-South Wrestling (later the Universal Wrestling Federation) in 1985, where he wrestled and worked as a manager, forming the villainous stable "Hot Stuff International, Inc." From the pen of someone who knew the man better than anyone, Doug Gilbert shares his memories of his brother and his legendary career.

  9. Twin States Wrestling CHAMBER OF HORRORS Monday Oct 31, 1987 Boutwell Auditorium Birmingham, Alabama Bell Time: 7:30pm Vic Steamboat pinned "Gentleman" Jack Hart w/Downtown Bruno with an inside cradle FINAL SHOWDOWN Ranger Ross/Brickhouse Brown defeated Boris Zhukov/Soldat Ustinov w/Sir Oliver Humperdink when Ross pinned Ustinov after a "combat kick" ALABAMA JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP Scott Armstrong defeated "Flamboyant" Eric Embry w/Downtown Bruno by DQ when Downtown Bruno got caught interfering TRIPLE BULLROPE MATCH The Lone Desperados (#1/#2/#3) defeated The Thunderfoots (#1/#2/#3) in a crazy, bloody…and as far as we know first ever TRIPLE BULLROPE MATCH…..at different points in the match everyone but Lone Desperado #3 was unmasked (who turned out to be Mr. Olympia) during the course of the match Lone Desperado #1 was revealed to be Wendell Cooley, L.D. #2 was revealed to be Johnny Mantell…….Thunderfoot #1 was Joel Deaton, Thunderfoot #2 was Ron Bass, and Thunderfoot #3 was none other than Dirty Rhodes. STEEL CAGE MATCH Los Mega Starrs (Chicky/Ron) defeated The Nightmares (Danny Davis/Ken Wayne) when "Tennessee Stud" Ron Fuller came down and slide some brass knucks through the cage to Ron Starr who knocked out Ken Wayne and pinned him. After the match as Los Mega Starrs and Ron Fuller were celebrating, a masked man who appeared to be "The Bullet" came down and threw a fireball in the face of Ron Fuller!! SEMI-MAIN EVENT STEEL CAGE MATCH TWIN STATES TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP LOSER OF THE FALL LEAVES TWIN STATES Johnny/Davey Rich vs. Billy Joe Travis/Tommy "Wildfire" Rich w/Downtown Bruno The champions ended up coming out first. Billy Joe Travis came out by himself and said that "due to circumstances beyond his control" Tommy Rich couldn't be there tonight. He said that Tommy did however send his "real cousin" Timmy Rich (Tim Patterson) to wrestle in his place. "Timmy Rich" came out wearing a t-shirt that read "TOMMY DOUBLE BOOKED HIMSELF". REVISED SEMI-MAIN EVENT STEEL CAGE MATCH TWIN STATES TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP LOSER OF THE FALL LEAVES TWIN STATES Johnny/Davey Rich defeated Billy Joe Travis/Timmy "Mildfire" Rich w/Downtown Bruno when Johnny Rich pinned Timmy Rich with a "Thesz Press"! Travis and Downtown Bruno left Patterson in the ring after the loss MAIN EVENT STEEL CAGE MATCH TWIN STATES HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP Brad Armstrong vs. "Tennessee Stud" Ron Fuller Just before the main event, Les Thatcher came out and announced that due to the fact that Ron Fuller was taken to the hospital after being burned earlier in the evening. Brad Armstrong is left without a challenger. This brought out (much to everyone's surprise) "the Great" Al Madril who was sans a bodyguard now. Thatcher asked what Madril was doing here seemingly fine after claiming to have a laundry list of injuries on Saturday. Madril claimed that he went to church on Sunday on was touched by a faith healer and "Hallelujah, I woke up healed! Amen!" He followed that up by pointing out he never got his "much deserved" rematch with Brad Armstrong after "that stunt Special Olympia pulled"! Thatcher wasn't happy but being in a bad spot with no challenger, he agreed to give him the match. NEW MAIN EVENT STEEL CAGE MATCH TWIN STATES HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP Brad Armstrong vs. "The Great" Al Madril A pretty competitive match for a good 15 minutes or so until……Madril did a leap frog and crumbled to the mat screaming in pain…."my knee is gone…..I'm mean for real this time! My knee is really blown out, I'm not kidding!" The referee struggles to keep Brad back because he clearly doesn't believe Madril is hurt. Madril reaches into his trunks and pulls out something…….finally Armstrong shoves the referee out of his way and charges in to drag Madril off the mat, when Madril sprays something into Brad's eyes…..Al quickly rolls him up and gets the 1--2--3!! New Twin States Champion "the Great" Al Madril! Madril leaps to his feet and begins jumping up and down celebrating as Armstrong writhes on the match covering face, ringsiders speculate on what Madril sprayed in his eyes to be mace or pepper spray. Madril: "I DID IT I DID IT!! All by myself! I didn't need any fake Mexican bodyguards…….it was all ME!!" The fans begin to throw things towards the ring but they bounce off the cage as Madril continues his celebration as Brad Armstrong is helped out of the ring by referees and the ringside medic

  11. Sorry, it's been a crazy few weeks, I've gotten slammed with both wrestling shows and stand up bookings as well as podcasts....I wanted to go ahead and get this posted to stay caught up and hopefully I'll be able to get caught up on feedback this week.\ ===================================================== Twin States Wrestling TV Pre-Recorded and airing on 10/31/87 WTVY Channel 4 Studios Dothan, Alabama Airing on various stations across Alabama & Mississippi (Show opens with a montage of Twin States footage featuring clips of Ron Fuller, Bob Armstrong, Jos Leduc, The Mongolian Stomper, The Nightmares, Ranger Ross, Al Madril, Los Mega Starrs, Mr. Olympia, and others…set to the instrumental of 'White Wedding by Billy Idol with a voiceover saying, "Welcome to Twin States Wrestling bringing you great wrestling action from across Alabama and Mississippi, we now take you to your host….Charlie Platt!") (The camera pans across the lively studio audience before heading over to the desk where Charlie Platt is joined by "Luscious" Johnny V!) Platt: "Hello everybody and welcome once again to Twin States Wrestling, I'm Charlie Platt along with the one and only "Luscious" Johnny V and this week we will once again have an abbreviated version of the show due to being pre-empted by the S.E.C. Game of the Week." JV: "That's right, so in light of that we're going to get right to the good and stuff go directly to the Fiesta Garden with everyone's compadre, 'the Great' Al Madril!" Platt: "I was hoping that meant we would be skipping the Fiesta Garden this week." JV: "Are you crazy? Besides 'Luscious' Johnny V, the Fiesta Garden is the reason everyone tunes in!" Platt: "Well before we get to the Garden, Les Thatcher wants it to be known that since this Monday night is Halloween, this Monday's show will be called, 'Chamber of Horrors' featuring not one….not two…but THREE steel cage matches!" ==================== The camera pans over to the Fiesta Garden stage decorated with four large, fake cacti in each corner, each of which is wearing a different colored sombrero. On the wall behind the stage is a Fiesta Garden banner that is done up in the colors of the Mexican flag and also has streamers and balloons attached to it. Standing under the banner with his arms crossed, dressed in his American Flag Zubaz, as well as a lucha mask and a sombrero is the nearly three hundred and fifty pound "Tugboat Ramirez." At the front of the stage sits two directors chairs, done in green fabric. One of them has the name Alberto Madril stenciled on the back of it, and the other says "Special Guest." In between those two chairs, standing with the aid of a pair of crutches, wearing a pair of blue jeans with a knee brace on one knee, a black shirt with a gold chain, with a cowboy boot on one foot, and a walking boot on the other is none other than the host of the Fiesta Garden..... Al Madril. Madril stands stoically as he waits for the crowd to stop booing. Al Madril: "You disrespectful hillbillies can obviously see that I am injured, and just standing here is painful. So the sooner you shut up, the sooner I can get this over with." The boo's come hot and heavy again and Madril rolls his eyes. Al Madril: "Classy as always Alabama. Anyway, tonight I was scheduled to compete in a hair versus mask match against that no good son of a gun Mr. Olympia, and believe me when I tell you that there is nothing I want more in this world than to rip that stupid looking rag off of his face and expose his hideous, mongoloid features to the world! However, this past Monday night as I was competing against Vic Steamboat I executed a wrestling maneuver known as a leap frog, and when I landed I was severely injured due to the shoddy construction of the Twin States Wrestling ring and the poor work of the Birmingham ring crew. I had to be helped from the ring by Tugboat Ramirez and I was taken to a local medical facility where I was diagnosed with conjunctivitis, a sprained and broken ankle, gout, a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL, athlete's foot, a broken femur, tennis elbow of the knee, hammer toe, as well as the third, fourth, and fifth metatarsal being dislocated and broken. So no matter how much I may hate Mr. Olympia, and no matter how much I want to risk my hair so that I can take that stupid mask away from him, I unfortunately can not risk my newly surgically repaired leg and my career to do so. Sometimes you just have to live to fight another day amigos." Les Thatcher comes out from the back and walks up to the Fiesta Garden stage. He takes a moment to look at Madril's leg, and then gets a smirk on his face like he knows the whole thing is total bullshit. Al holds the microphone out for him. Les Thatcher: "Madril, I don't buy for a minute that you are hurt, but you know what, I don't care. We promised these people a match with some stakes for the main event this week, and we are going to give them one. So if you aren't wrestling Olympia, then your friend Tugboat can wrestle him and if he loses, you can get your haircut!! Al Madril: WOAH! WOAH! WOAH! Wait a minute, wait a minute! That's not fair! I should be able to defend my own hair! What if Tugboat's mask is on the line?" Tugboat: "What?" Al Madril: "Just go with it, I'll double your pay....." Tugboat: "Works for me." Les Thatcher: "No Way Madril, we promised....." Mr. Olympia comes from the back and his arm is in a sling! He comes to the Fiesta Garden stage and Les Thatcher looks at him like "What the Hell" while Madril eyes him suspiciously. Mr. Olympia: "It's okay Les. Al doesn't need to put his hair on the line tonight, because I can't put my mask on the line tonight. Because as you can see, I was also injured this past Monday night." Thatcher throws his hands up into the air, while Madril loudly says "bullcrap." Mr. Olympia: "It's true. Mr. Madril came to the ring and distracted me, causing me to be rolled up by Jack Hart. With all of Mr. Hart's weight on top of me, my shoulder became separated, my elbow was dislocated, my rotator cuff was torn, my wrist was fractured, and my pinky finger was bent backwards at an unnatural angle." Al Madril: "Stop stealing my bit....." Mr. Olympia: "Anyway Les, I understand that you need a main event here tonight, so if Mr. Madril's bodyguard is willing to put his mask on the line, I have a good friend of mine that is willing to wrestle in my place. He also wears a mask and he will put it on the line in a Mask versus Mask match." Les Thatcher: "Who is he?" Al Madril: "Yeah.... Who?" Mr. Olympia: "Ladies and Gentleman...... Super Duper Olympia......" Super Duper Olympia comes lumbering from behind the curtain as the fan's go absolutely crazy. Les Thatcher is shaking his head, while Madril's eyes are as wide as dinner plates. Les Thatcher: "You know what. Fine. Whatever. It's a match." Thatcher walks away from the Fiesta Garden with a look of annoyance on his face. He glances up at "Super Duper Olympia" and just shakes his head as they pass one another. Thatcher then disappears behind the curtain. The giant masked man makes his way to the Fiesta Garden stage and stands beside Mr. Olympia. Al Madril meawhile is staring at the big man with a look that appears to be a mix of anger and fear. Mr. Olympia: "Well Madril, do you think Tugboat Ramirez can beat my pal Super Duper Olympia?" Al Madril: "What are you trying to pull here Olympia? We both know who that is!" Mr. Olympia: "Yeah, it's my good friend Super Duper Olympia." Al Madril: "Cut the Crap!! We both know that's Plowboy Frazier!" Mr. Olympia: "Don't you mean Plowboy Reyes?" Al Madril: "Huh? Oh Yeah....." Mr. Olympia: "or was it Plowboy Sanchez?" Al Madril: "Ummm..... Could have been...." Mr. Olympia: "No, wait... it was Plowboy Lopez." Al Madril: "Stop trying to confuse me Olympia!" Mr. Olympia: "You're right, it was Plowboy Martinez." Al Madril: "Yeah, sure...whatever. I fired that big, fat oaf!" Mr. Olympia: "Now, Wait a minute. I thought he was your lifelong friend and you were mourning his loss." Al Madril: "What! Yeah! You're just confusing me! I'm done talking to you. Plowboy, listen to me buddy. This guy attacked you with a chair. Whatever he did to convince you to dress up like this, he is lying to you. The only reason I wasn't there for you is because I thought you were dead. Did you not see the eulogy we had for you?" Mr. Olympia hands the microphone to the big man who steps toward Madril. "You listen here Madril. My name is Plowb.... Super Duper Olympia, and tonight I am going to unmask Tugboat Tay.... Ramirez in the main event." The two Olympia's walk away from the Fiesta Garden, and Madril takes a step to go after them before remembering his injured leg which he immediately goes back to selling as the show goes to commercial. =================== MATCH #1: Billy Joe Travis/Tommy "Wildfire" Rich defeated Randy Watson/Jackie Daytona when Rich pinned Watson after a piledriver Promo recap: (After the match, Tommy Rich slips on a t-shirt that reads "WE GOT ROBBED!") Tommy Rich says his "fake cousins" stole their titles and he wants revenge anyway they can get it. He says that he's so sure that they will be Johnny and Davey for their titles that if and Billy Joe Travis lose, he will leave Twin States Wrestling! Billy Joe doesn't look to thrilled with that statement but he pats Rich on the back as they walk away. ==================== COMMERCIAL BREAK ==================== MATCH #2: The Lone Desperados (#1/#2) defeated Sammy Hall/Buck Spivey when Desperado #2 pinned Hall after a running bulldog Promo recap: The Lone Desperados let it be known that they too have a third member and they challenge all three Thunderfeet to a TRIPLE BULLROPE MATCH this Monday night in Birmingham! ==================== (VTR promo recap: An enraged Brad Armstrong says that Ron Fuller took it too far throwing fire in the face of his father last week and that this week he wants revenge! He says he wants Fuller one on one in the cage in Birmingham and he's fine with putting the Twin States title on the line if that what it takes to get his hands on Fuller!) ==================== COMMERCIAL BREAK ==================== MATCH #3: MAIN EVENT Super Duper Olympia w/Mr. Olympia and Tugboat Ramirez w/Al Madril wrestled to a Double Disqualification. The two lumbering big men exchanged blows for several minutes and were both sucking enough wind behind the masks that the first few rows were starting to be deprived of oxygen. Then Ramirez inadvertently hit the referee while swinging his big arm backwards to throw another haymaker. No sooner than the referee hit the canvas, Madril started removing his knee brace and walking boot. Once he had it off, he slid into the ring and blasted Super Duper Olympia across the back with one of his crutches which broke in half and the big man fell to the mat like a giant oak tree. Meanwhile, Mr. Olympia slid into the ring, and removed the sling on his arm. Apparently the lead pipe that appeared in his hands had been bracing it the whole time. He then used said lead pipe to clock Tugboat Ramirez in the back of the head, and he crumbled to the mat like a ton of bricks. Madril and Olympia locked eyes from across the ring, then both looked over to see the referee starting to get to his feet. Madril quickly dropped his half a crutch next to the fallen Super Duper Olympia, while Mr. Olympia dropped the pipe next to Tugboat. They both then slowly backed out of the ring and up their respective aisles, watching each other the whole way. When the referee came too, he saw both men laying unconcious on the mat, each with a weapon laying beside them. He spoke to the ring announcer who then announced that both men were DQ'ed for using a weapon, and thusly both would be unmasked. A host of officials came to the ring to help both of the big men up, and to get them unmasked. To the shock of absolutely no one, they were Plowboy Frazier and Tugboat Taylor. Standing in between those two chairs wearing a pair of blue jeans, a black shirt with a gold chain, and a pair of cowboy boots is none other than the host of the Fiesta Garden..... Al Madril. Madril is back to grinning this week, and soaks in the boo's for a few moments before bringing the microphone to his mouth and beginning. Al Madril: "Hola Mi Amigos! Welcome to The Fiesta Garden, the greatest show in the history of the professional wrestling business! Hosted by me, Alberto Madril, the greatest wrestler in the history of the professional wrestling business!" When the boo's come heavier, Al gets an even bigger smile. He pulls the microphone away from his mouth and leans into the camera and whispers "They know I am" before jumping right back into it. Al Madril: "and standing behind me is my new enforcer, the new head of Fiesta Garden security. The three hundred fifty pound human machine of destruction that only answers to me, he is Tugboat Ramirez!! Now....Say Hello Tugboat!" Without so much as turning around, Madril simply holds the microphone behind his back. Tugboat steps forward and speaks into the microphone in a voice that doesn't hold the slightest hint of a Spanish accent. "Tugboat Ramirez": "Hello Tugboat." Al Madril: "Wham! Nailed It! First Try! That's why this guy is getting paid the big bucks!" The fans begin chanting "We Want Plowboy" and Madril looks annoyed for a minute, then seems to remember he is supposed to be sad and his face turns deadly serious. Al Madril: "Me too amigos. Me too. Just seven days ago, I stood here heartbroken, grieving for all that I had lost as my good friend Johnny V said all of those nice things. I stood here thinking about the terrible, unspeakable things that Mr. Olympia had done, and how he couldn't be allowed to get away with them. So this past Monday, I went to Birmingham, and I avenged the single greatest tragedy in the history of Twin States Wrestling....." Madril's serious facade cracks and his shit eating grin is back with a vengeance. Al Madril: "I defeated Mr. Olympia and got my revenge for him causing me to be distracted when I wrestled Brad Armstrong for the Twin States Title!" Somehow, the boo's come even heavier now Al Madril: "What! You thought I was still crying about old what's his name? Why would I do that?" Madril rolls his eyes at the continued boo'ing. Al Madril: "Seriously people, I have Tugboat Ramirez now. Sure he might not be quite as tall, or....... (Madril glances back, then appears to contemplate something for a moment)....quite...as fat, but that just means that he is faster and better equipped to protect "The Great" Al Madril when the need arises." Mr. Olympia comes walking out from the back and heads straight for The Fiesta Garden stage. Tugboat Ramirez steps forward and stands in front of Madril. Olympia pretty much shows no fear and gets nose to nose with the other masked man. A stage hand runs up and gives Olympia a second microphone. Al Madril: "The Fiesta Garden wasn't taking guests this week. But I can only assume you are out here to congratulate me on being the better man since I beat you this past Monday night?" Mr. Olympia: "No Madril, like everyone else in this building, I was just sick and tired of hearing you talk!" That gets a big pop from the crowd, and Madril's face scrunches up into a look that says "Thats not true." Mr. Olympia: "and you didn't beat me this past Monday night. This big goof standing between us is the only reason you won that match." Al Madril: "The record book says...." Mr. Olympia: "I don't care what the record book says Alberto! You only won that match cause you cheated, and we both know you can't beat me fair and square." Al Madril: "Listen here Special Olympia, I can beat you any night of the week, in any kind of match you can think of. Regular match, I'll beat you. Cage match, I'll beat you. Mexican Death Match, I'll beat you." Mr. Olympia: "Okay, then why don't we do it right here on television next week. That way everyone can see you beat me." Al Madril: "I just told you, it doesn't matter. I can beat you on TV too! Maybe I'll rip that stupid mask off your head." Mr. Olympia: "Okay, I like it Madril. If you can beat me fair and square, right here on TV next week, I will unmask." Al Madril: "Wait.. Really?" Mr. Olympia: "Yeah. You leave 'ole Tugger there in the back, and if you beat me, I will give you my mask." Al Madril: "Ha! You're on!" Olympia reaches into the back of his tights and produces a contract. He hands it to Tugboat, who unfolds it and hands it to Madril. Al Madril: "Bend Over." Ramirez bends down and Madril quickly signs the contract on his rather broad back. With a smirk, he hands it over to Olympia. Al Madril: "Next week, I am going to show everyone that you've gotten even uglier Jerry!" Mr. Olympia: "and next week, I am going to show everyone that only a complete idiot doesn't read a contract." Madril's smile quickly fades. Al Madril: "What do you mean?" Mr. Olympia: "Next week, you and I will wrestle right here on TV..... in as mask vs hair match!" Olympia walks away from The Fiesta Garden set as Madril loses it and starts kicking over the directors chairs. The show fades to commercial as Madril slaps Tugboat! ====================== COMMERCIAL BREAK ====================== MATCH #3: "Bullet" Bob/Brad Armstrong & The Nightmares (Danny Davis/Ken Wayne) defeated Ray Purchase/Jackie Daytona/Rich Mahogany/Buck Spivey when Brad pinned Daytona following a Russian Leg sweep Promo Recap: Ken Wayne talks about how the whole time he was injured he thought about what he wanted to do to Los Mega Starrs when he gets his hands on them and they haven't even BEGUN to pay for what they did to him. Bullet Bob says if hasn't said it already, he's sorry to all the fans and his friends and family for "going off the deep end" for a moment with that whole 'Armstrong's Army' thing but that just the kind of effect that The Fullers have on people but now that he has his head on straight and great people like his son, Brad and the Nightmares by his side, he doesn't care who Ron Fuller puts in his so called 'Stud Stable', he won't rest until the "Tennessee Stud" is "put out to pasture" for good! ======================= (VTR- The Movement Promo Recap: Shaska said he came in with high hopes for getting Brickhouse back in the Movement, but he can see now that he's been hanging around that "sell out" Ranger Ross too long and that he's hopeless case. Jack Hart says that Alberto Madril has offered him $5,000 if he can remove Mr. Olympia's mask during their match and that he could use the extra cash. (camera pans over to Tommy Rich whose t-shirt says, "Johnny & Davey Who?" Tommy Rich says that Johnny and Davey Rich "went crying to Les Thatcher" saying they wanted ANOTHER tag team title shot. Tommy says that they have reason to face them again, they already took their belts and then successfully defended them….but Johnny and Davey do have one more thing he wants to take away from them….his name! So, Rich and Travis have agreed to face Johnny and Davey one last time this Monday with the belts on the line vs. Johnny and Davey's last name. If Tommy and Billy Joe win, Johnny and Davey can no longer use the last name Rich. Les Thatcher comes out and says that Johnny and Davey have agreed to that stipulation but Thatcher says he's added one more to make sure things are fair…..it will be in a STEEL CAGE!! 16. Oh man, how I would have loved to have a ringside seat for Nick Bockwinkle vs. Owen Hart!
  17. Idol lets Keirn know it's not over and he show up anywhere at anytime! I love it! Carlos is looking to redeem himself but I'm not sure this is the "baptism by fire" he was looking for...don't cross King Curtis! Lawler seems confident heading into his World title match with Bad News but I don't know if he realizes just who he's up against. Fun house show as The British Bombers get a win, Abudah Iaukea impresses with a dominant win, Mike George pisses everyone off with another successful title defense, but Al Perez ends things on a high note with a win over the Living Legend!
  18. Two great cards that really highlights your roster. Gonna give Watts the slight edge on this one but it's very close. Hot Stuff Inc are really building up steam here! Steiner and Hercules is a fun and Steiner would really benefit teaming with a guy like Herc who has been around a while at this stage in career. Solid defense for Luger putting down Vader!

After a bunch of brawling and hoopla resulted in Ross/Brown/Whatley/Conway/Ustinov/Zhukov all eventually being eliminated….it was down to two babyfaces Tim Horner/Vic Steamboat. After several minutes of scientific wrestling, Steamboat managed to use Horner's own momentum against to him to send him over the top and become the winner of the $15,000 battle royal Alabama Jr. Heavyweight Championship Scott Armstrong pinned "Flamboyant" Eric Embry w/Downtown Bruno when Bruno distracted the referee for Jack Hart to help Embry, instead Dennis Brown ran out and threw powder in Embry's face allowing Armstrong to get the win! Brown left with Armstrong as the Downtown Connection were beside themselves in the ring! The Nightmares (Danny Davis/Ken Wayne) fought Los Mega Starrs (Chicky/Ron) to a double count out SPECIAL CHALLENGE MATCH "The Great" Al Madril w/Tugboat Ramirez pinned Mr. Olympia after interference from Tugboat Ramirez It should be noted that before the match, Madril came out and demanded a 60 second "moment of silence in memory of Plowboy Martinez". Madril and Tugboat stood in the ring with their heads bowed, it would be silent for a couple of seconds and the crowd would start booing, Madril would take the mic and say he would not wrestle until "these disrespectful hayseeds from Alabama gives me 60 consecutive seconds of silence out of respect for Cowboy Martinez….I mean Plowboy Menendez you know who I’m talking about, look how upset you've made me. I can't even say the name of my best and oldest friend!" This went on for a few minutes with Madril starting over the 60 second timer and then everyone booing until Mr. Olympia hit the ring and dropkicked Tugboat from behind sending him flying out of the ring, and then laying into Madril as the referee called to start the match SEMI-MAIN EVENT TWIN STATES TAG TEAM TITLES-REMATCH Billy Joe Travis/Tommy "Wildfire" Rich defeated Johnny/Davey Rich when Downtown Bruno came to ringside and distracted the referee allowing Rich to use a chain on Davey and get the pin to retain the titles MAIN EVENT GRUDGE TAG TEAM MATCH "Bullet" Bob/Brad Armstrong defeated "Tennessee Stud" Ron Fuller/Jos Leduc when Brad pinned Fuller with a small package, as soon as the match was over Chicky/Ron Starr hit the ring and joined Fuller in Leduc in a four on two attack until the Nightmares came down to even the odds and the heels retreated
  20. Twin States Wrestling TV Pre-Recorded and airing on 10/15/87 WTVY Channel 4 Studios Dothan, Alabama Airing on various stations across Alabama & Mississippi (The show opens with a shot of the parking lot as Ron Bass, Dirty Rhodes, and Joel Deaton attempt to enter the studio. Les Thatcher meets them at the door and tells them that Wendell Cooley is still missing and until he shows back up they are suspended from Twin States. Deaton speaks up and says "Look, we jumped him and took him out of the building long enough for him to miss his match with Ronnie….but we left him right down the road in the parking lot of a truck stop." Bass and Rhodes smack him across the back of the head. Deaton says, "I'm just kidding we ain't seen him and didn't have nothing to do with it." Thatcher tells them that they better find out where Cooley is at, because until Cooley returns they are suspended from Twin States Wrestling!) (We then go to a montage of footage from previous Twin States shows in 1985 featuring clips of Ron Fuller, Bob Armstrong, Jos Leduc, The Mongolian Stomper, The Nightmares, Bill Dundee & George Barnes, Mr. Olympia, and others…set to the instrumental of 'White Wedding by Billy Idol with a voiceover saying, "Welcome to Twin States Wrestling bringing you great wrestling action from across Alabama and Mississippi, we now take you to your host….Charlie Platt!") (The camera pans across the lively studio audience before heading over to the desk where Charlie Platt is joined by "Luscious" Johnny V!) Platt: "Hello everyone and welcome once again to Twin States Wrestling, I'm Charlie Platt and I'm joined as always by the one and only 'Luscious' Johnny V." Valiant: (dressed in all black with dark sunglasses) "Charles, it's a very somber and sad day today. The Fiesta Garden will be a memorial for the big man who is no longer with us, thanks to that psychopath Mr. Olympia." Platt: "Wait, are you trying to imply that Plowboy died…because I heard…" Valiant: "Shut up Charles! Did I say he DIED? I said he's NO LONGER WITH US! Show some respect, I can't talk about it anymore…change the subject, please." Platt: (looking bewildered) "So, anyway….a lot happened last Monday night and one of the more interesting turn of events involved Jos Leduc turning out to be Ron Fuller's mystery opponent for Bob Armstrong." Valiant: "Yeah, the fans who weren't there missed out because a lot went down and I understand we're going to have a tag match this Monday night with Bob and Brad Armstrong facing the "Tennessee Stud" Ron Fuller and 'Lumberjack' Jos Leduc and this whole 'Armstrong's Army' nonsense is officially over and done with." Platt: "That is true, that tag team match will happen this Monday night along with a rematch as the new Twin States tag team champions Billy Joe Travis and Tommy 'Wildfire' Rich will defend those belts against the former champions Johnny and Davey Rich." Valiant: "I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for Billy Joe and Tommy Rich to win those tag team titles, what a great team they make!" Platt: "Well, we'll hear from them a little later on….but right now speaking of teams…we have a brand new tag team to Twin States about to make their debut, the masked duo of the Lone Desperados!" ======================= MATCH #1: The Lone Desperados (#1/#2) defeated Randy Watson/Ray Purchase when L.D. #1 pinned Watson following a running bulldog! During the match, Johnny V commented on the fact that he's absolutely certain the 'Lone Desperados' are Wendell Cooley and Johnny Mantell. Platt asked, "What makes you say that?" Valiant replied: "Because they are wearing the EXACT SAME gear as Cooley and Mantell just with masks on….in fact Desperado # 2 has tights that say "Mantell" on them!!" Platt seemed to get a chuckle out of this. After the match, Johnny V got up from the desk and tried to talk to the Lone Desperados as they were leaving the ring. Valiant: "Hold up just a moment! I have two issues with you guys! Number one, you can't be LONE Desperados because there's TWO of you! More importantly, clearly you two are Wendell Cooley and Johnny Mantell! You're just pulling this crap so Ron Bass, Dirty Rhodes, and Joel Deaton stay suspended." LD #1: "No speaka any english." LD #2: "No habla, poor favor." (The Lone Desperados immediately leave to cheers from the studio audience) (Valiant returns to the desk livid) Valiant: "Platt, this is a travesty! It's absurd that Lester Thatcher allows guys to parade around here with socks on their head and pull this kinda stuff! First you have Jerry Stubbs in his stupid looking mask attacking poor, helpless Plowboy Martinez with a chair and ending him." Platt: "Poor and helpless, the guy was six foot six and eight hundred pounds." Valiant: "How dare you? You better hope poor Alberto didn't hear you say that. Anyway, you had that tragedy and now you got these two goofy cowboys parading around in masks like it's halloween and it's these poor fans who are getting ripped off. You know they all came here to see 'Outlaw' Ron Bass, Dirty Rhodes, and Dead Eye Deaton!" (the fans boo mercilessly) Platt: "I think they'll be ok, Johnny. We'll be right back after these words." ========================= COMMERCIAL BREAK ========================= (Upon returning from break, Boni Blackstone welcomes out the 'Downtown Connection' of Eric Embry, Dennis Brown, and Jack Hart along with Downtown Bruno) BB: "Downtown Bruno, not a stellar night for the Downtown Connection last Monday night in Birmingham as 'Uptown' Dennis Brown lost the Alabama Jr Heavyweight Championship to Scott Armstrong." Bruno: "Let me correct you, Miss Blackstone. It was not a stellar night for Denny Brown because Jack Hart didn't lose to Vic Steamboat. Eric Embry BEAT little Timmy Horner, and all that would have had to happen for it to be a PERFECT night for the 'Downtown Connection' was for Denny Brown to beat the littlest Armstrong….wee little Scotty, hell as little as I am, even I could beat Scott Armstrong but NOOOOO….that was too much to ask for ol' 'Lay Down' Denny Brown. He couldn't get the job done and it was embarrassing!" (Brown angrily cuts in) Brown: "First of all…it's DENNIS Brown, not Denny Brown. But more importantly….you failed to mention the reason I lost and they didn't…was because YOU screwed up and threw powder in my eyes….I'm sure if you would have thrown powder in their eyes then maybe they would've lost as well." (Embry snatches the mic away) Embry: "Bruno, I'll handle this….first of all….if Downtown Bruno says your name is Doo Doo Brown that's what you'll answer to. Second of all, it's not Downtown Bruno's fault that you couldn't beat Scott Armstrong on your own so you needed him to throw powder in his eyes and then you were too damn weak to even hold little Scotty Armstrong in place like you were supposed to! If I needed to hold Tim Horner in place I could have done it! If Jack needed to hold Vic Steamboat in place he could have done it and even if Bruno would have thrown powder in my eyes I STILL would have kicked out because I'm a real man…unlike you…BOY!" Brown: "Is that a fact? How about we test that out? Let Bruno throw powder in your face, I'll pin you and let's see if you kick out." Embry: "Oh, so instead of apologizing you wanna try to get cute out here? Is that's what's happening right now? Listen here…DENNY. Let's have a match…right here today….you vs. me. You have a guaranteed rematch for the Jr title due to being the former champion, and we all know you would lose anyway. So, how about you vs. me and if I win I get you're title match this Monday night against Scott Armstrong." Brown: "and if I win?" (Bruno/Embry/Hart all bust out laughing) Embry: "If by some miracle, God strikes me down and you somehow win this match….I'll retire from professional wrestling today. I will quit wrestling and go drive a truck for a living or work at the mall." Brown: "Fine, you're on." Bruno: "Let me go talk to Thatcher and we'll make this happen on this show today. Eric, will you take my spot in Jack's corner while I go handle this?" Embry: "Of course I will, boss!" ====================== MATCH #2: "Gentleman" Jack Hart w/Eric Embry pinned Parker Williams after a swinging neckbreaker ====================== The camera pans over to the Fiesta Garden stage decorated with four large, fake cacti in each corner, each of which is wearing a black veil. On the wall behind the stage is a Fiesta Garden banner that is done up in the colors of the Mexican flag and also has black streamers and black balloons attached to it. At the front of the stage sits a large black wreath and just over from it is an easel with a large picture of Plowboy Martinez on it. Standing in between those two items wearing a black suit, dress shoes, and dark sunglasses with his hair in a ponytail is Al Madril. He has a frown on his face as he raises the microphone to his mouth. Al Madril: "Ladies and Gentleman, we are here tonight to celebrate the memory of Plowboy Martinez. A giant of a man, who had just learned how to properly say 'Hello Plowboy', when he was taken from us far too soon at the hands of that no good Mr. Olympia!" Al places the hand not holding the microphone over his eyes and is obviously faking crying, and continues doing so long enough that the crowd begins to boo. Johnny V gets up from the announce position and heads over to the Fiesta Garden set, all the while yelling at the crowd to stop boo'ing. When he arrives at the set he puts his arm around Al and the fake crying increases. After several moments of this, Johnny says "Let me do this, buddy" and takes the microphone. Johnny V: "We thank you all for being here to help pay our last respects to Plowboy Reyes." Madril stops crying for a moment and whispers something into the ear of Johnny V. Valiant nods and resumes speaking, as Madril goes back to "crying." Johnny V: "I meant Martinez, Plowboy Martinez..... I'm just so upset by this tragic unnecessary loss. You see, Plowboy had such a big heart." Again Madril stops his fake crying and whispers something to Valiant. Johnny V: "I'm sorry....enlarged heart is the actual medical term. He had an enlarged heart. None the less, we'll always remember Plowboy and his thirst for life....and moonshine...umm, I mean tequila. Along with his huge appetite for knowledge...and tacos...mostly tacos. So many tacos. He was a good man, and while I didn't like for him to ride with me because of the wear and tear he put on the shocks of my car, not to mention those taco farts that would bring a tear to a glass eye...." Madril falls to the ground and pounds his fist on the floor of the Fiesta Garden stage while yelling "It's Not Fair!!" Johnny V kneels down and pats Madril on the back, before helping him to his feet and continuing. Johnny V: "I could go on all day about what a great loss it is for all of us to lose Plowboy Guerrero. Madril stops sobbing and looks like he is about to correct Johnny, but instead shrugs his shoulders and goes back to sobbing. Johnny V: "I could go on and on about all the good times me and Al Madril had traveling with Plowboy Sanchez all these many, many couple of weeks we've known him but let's not dwell on the past. The sad fact is this lunatic Mr. Olympia was allowed to assault Plowboy Lopez in the aisle from behind with a deadly weapon and as of yet has not been reprimanded or punished for his crime. Today as you reflect on the fond memories of Plowboy Menendez, remember that there's a masked menace parading around Twin States that deserves to be fined, suspended, fired, or just plain locked up. Be careful as you exit the building today and go to your cars as we have no clue when and where he may strike again." Al Madril: "Amen" Madril wipes his fake tears away and gives Valiant a hearty handshake, followed by a hug. Johnny gives Madril another pat on the back and heads back toward the announce position. Madril continues... Al Madril: "First, I would like to thank Johnny V for that beautiful, heartfelt eulogy. I know if Plowboy were here, he would have appreciated it, even though he can't spell beautiful or heartfelt or eulogy! Secondly, I would like to take this time to publicly ask Les Thatcher why nothing has been done about this vicious assault and why I have not been granted my rematch with Brad Armstrong for the Twin States Championship under less mentally stressful conditions! I mean seriously, can Thatcher do any Less?" Madril gives his trademark grin to the camera on that one, but then his face twists into a look of anger. Al Madril: "Lastly, I would like to take this time to challenge that no good, masked piece of crap Mr. Olympia to fight me one on one this Monday night in Birmingham so I can take revenge for what he did to my compadre Plowboy Martinez! and Olympia, you go ahead and bring your steel chair tough guy! Because "The Great" Al Madril won't be coming alone, OH NO! You may have taken out Plowboy Martinez, but Al Madril has a lot of friends, and this Monday I will be bringing my new bodyguard to Birmingham! Ladies and Gentleman..... TUGBOAT RAMIREZ!!!" Madril cackles with glee as he slaps his nearly three hundred and fifty pound plus new bodyguard on the shoulder as The Fiesta Garden fades to commercial. ===================== COMMERCIAL BREAK ===================== (We return from the break to Platt and Johnny V at the desk) Platt: "So just like that we've now got Tugboat Ramirez?" Valiant: "Well yeah, Charles….one can't grieve forever. It's what Plowboy Bellomo would have wanted." Platt: "That name is not even hispanic." Valiant: "Wow, Charles…let's not bring race into this." Platt: (hangs his head) "Let's go to the ring, please." ==================== MATCH #3: Johnny/Davey Rich defeated Johnny Hogg/Luke Wilcox when Johnny pinned Wilcox after a double dropkick (After the match- Boni Blackstone approached Johnny and Davey Rich at ringside) BB: "Guys, I know you have to be taken aback by the fact that Billy Joe Travis has brought Tommy Rich back to Twin States and the fact they took the Twin States tag team titles from you in Birmingham." JR: "I'm glad you said 'took' Boni, because they certainly didn't WIN them, that low life Billy Travis broke that stupid guitar over my head to STEAL those belts from us." DR: "Boni, it absolutely makes me sick to see just how much of a low life human being Billy Joe Travis has turned out to be." (Meanwhile over at the interview area, Billy Joe Travis and Tommy Rich have come out, Tommy's t-shirt reads 'R.I.P. Plowboy Fernandez') TR: "First off, I just wanna say what a tragedy it is that we lost Plowboy Fernandez, but Billy when I came here and saw how much weight Manny had gained, I knew it wasn't good." Travis: "Tommy, I believe you're thinking of…..you know what, it's not important. What's important is these belts around our waist! Look at that, boys! We beat you two matches in a row and took your titles and now you're dumb enough to beg Les Thatcher to get your rematch this Monday? That's a big mistake, you should probably take a couple of months to study tapes, train, learn to wrestle, and pray about it before you get back in the ring and get embarrassed by us, right Tommy?" TR: "That's exactly right, Billy Joe. Do you two know how damn embarrassing it is for me that yall are running around rasslin using my last name and yall ain't any better at rasslin than what you are? If yall ain't gonna get no better than that, why don't you change your name to Johnny and Davey Armstrong? Or Johnny and Davey Cooley? Better yet, go with Johnny and Davey Lawler like a real loser!" JR: "ha ha ha Tommy, if wrestling titles could be won in a comedy competition you would be the World champion, but unfortunately for you and that goofy partner of yours…they're not and that's why you have to have your buddy Billy Joe use a guitar to beat us." TR: "That's where you're wrong because last week on this very TV show, Billy Joe used David Haskins' own stupidity to beat yall." JR: "No, he used his good nature against him but don't worry that won't happen again, he realizes exactly what kind of scumbags we're dealing with now." TR: "Well John Boy, that ain't no way to talk about your (does finger quotes) "family" is it?…You know what, that's just fine because when these two 'scumbags' beat you again on Monday night….we are officially done with you two for good….no more title shots, no more matches with you…..period!" (Rich and Travis turn and leave) DR: "That's all we need Boni, one fair shot and those titles will be ours once again!" ======================== (VTR- A highlight video is shown of The Armstrongs vs. The Fullers over the years up until now with a graphic at the end that reads, "Will it finally end this Monday?") ======================== COMMERCIAL BREAK As we return from the break, Charlie Platt runs down this Monday's card for Birmingham and promotes the week's spot shows Twin States Wrestling Monday Oct 17, 1987 Boutwell Auditorium Birmingham, Alabama Bell Time: 7:30pm MAIN EVENT GRUDGE TAG TEAM MATCH "Bullet" Bob/Brad Armstrong vs. "Tennessee Stud" Ron Fuller/"Lumberjack" Jos Leduc SEMI-MAIN EVENT TWIN STATES TAG TEAM TITLES-REMATCH Billy Joe Travis/Tommy "Wildfire" Rich vs. Johnny/Davey Rich PLOWBOY MARTINEZ MEMORIAL CHALLENGE MATCH Mr. Olympia vs. "The Great" Al Madril w/Tugboat Ramirez REVENGE MATCH The Nightmares (Danny Davis/Ken Wayne) vs. Los Mega Starrs (Chicky/Ron) Alabama Jr. Heavyweight Championship Scott Armstrong vs. DENNIS BROWN OR ERIC EMBRY w/Downtown Bruno $15,000 15 MAN BATTLE ROYAL Each wrestler puts up $1,000 to enter, WINNER TAKES ALL!!
