According to Bobby Backlund's book, Vince Sr. wouldn't book Dusty that often after his initial run in 78 because he thought that Dusty was angling his way into getting a power position. He wouldn't book Dusty as strong as you think he would considering his name as a worldwide attraction. Here is his schedule in 1979. WWWF @ New York City 1979/01/22 @ Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York (United States of America) Dusty Rhodes defeated Lumberjack Pierre (7:02 minutes) WWWF @ Uniondale 1979/02/10 @ Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York (United States of America) Dusty Rhodes vs. Ivan Koloff had no winner because of a time limit draw WWWF @ Springfield 1979/02/24 @ Springfield Civic Center in Springfield, Massachusetts (United States of America) Dusty Rhodes defeated Baron Mikel Scicluna WWWF @ Uniondale 1979/03/16 @ Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York (United States of America) Dusty Rhodes defeated Ivan Koloff by countout (15:58 minutes) WWWF @ Landover 1979/03/17 @ Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland (United States of America) Ernie Ladd defeated Dusty Rhodes by referee stoppage WWWF @ Philadelphia 1979/03/17 @ The Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (United States of America) Ivan Koloff defeated Dusty Rhodes by referee stoppage (7:31 minutes) WWWF @ Randolph 1979/03/24 @ Randolph, New Jersey (United States of America) Dusty Rhodes defeated Ivan Koloff WWWF @ Torrington 1979/03/25 @ Torrington, Connecticut (United States of America) Dusty Rhodes defeated Peter Maivia by disqualification WWWF @ New York City 1979/03/26 @ Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York (United States of America) Lou Albano, Jerry Valiant and Johnny Valiant defeated Dusty Rhodes, Larry Zbyszko and Tony Garea (18:04 minutes) [2 out of 3 Falls Match] WWF TV-Taping @ New York City 1979/10/22 @ Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York (United States of America) Dusty Rhodes defeated Jimmy Valiant (5:27 minutes) WWF TV-Taping @ New York City 1979/12/17 @ Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York (United States of America) Harley Race (c) defeated Dusty Rhodes by referee stoppage (13:18 minutes) [NWA World Heavyweight Title] -

WPCQ 36 Sports anchor Lou Tilley received some information from Mid-Atlantic official Sandy Scott about some of the teams that will be involved in Mid-Atlantic wrestling. The first is the Andersons ( Ole & Gene), Along with cousin Ric Flair. Flair has a tag team partner named Greg Valentine and this foursome is going to be known as the Family. Scott said that the Family could have some issues in the future if they meet up in the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Tournament. Both Flair & Valentine are strong singles wrestlers and are always in the mix for any single title held around the world and the Anderson's are the area's longest tenured tag team. The next group is managed by long time veteran Bobby Heenan and he has his stable of wrestlers. First is former world champion Nick Bockwinkle and powerful tag team known as the Black & Blue Express ( former Olympian Ken Patera & veteran "Big Bad" Bobby Duncum). These 4 will not be afraid to break the rules, even though they don't have to. Now coming down the aisle are the people of the Street and they are 4 individuals who love to slap hands and kiss babies ( I wouldn't advise that last part) and they are managed by Jimmy Hart and his group consists of former enemy Jerry "The King" Lawler, "Bad Bad" Leroy Brown and The "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant. This eccentric group should be fun to watch and could cause havoc to some of the bad guys in the area. We have now an interesting mix of talent from the US and Japan in terms of wrestling skill and violence. They are known as the House of Humperdink and are managed by Sir Oliver Humperdink. Buzz Sawyer and Matt Borne are young veterans who have a nice mix of violence and wrestling ability. Sawyer is a former Florida High School Wrestling champion and Borne is a Second generation wrestler who has been around the business all of his life. When speaking of wrestlers , you can't go without saying the name of Dory Funk Jr. The former heavyweight champion . Funk is known as a Pro's pro and can win a match anyway that is needed. He is still a dangerous man who can defeat wrestlers much younger then himself. The man known as "Hump" went to the orient and brought back a former Olympian in Jumbo Tsuruta and strike master Tenryu. Lastly originally from the Pacific Northwest, where they dominated the competition there for 3 years, you have "Playboy" Buddy Rose and his army of men. Long time tag team partner "Crippler" Rip Oliver is his main lieutenant and now has been joined by "Cowboy" Ron Bass and 6'9", 400 lb. monster the One Man Gang. This is one dangerous crew and will be a force to reckon with.

I remember a cover with John Studd and Jimmy Snuka wrestling and it said it was the battle for the future of the NWA Title.

PRESS RELEASE: Jim Crockett Jr. sells Mid-Atlantic Wrestling! In a shocking move, Jim Crockett Jr., who took over the operations of Jim Crockett Promotions after his father, Jim Sr. passed away in 1973, has decided to sell the promotion and the rights to the contract of the talent that was under Jim Crockett Promotions. Coming in is a mystery man only known as "Dr. Dunk" and he has made the following statement about the future of the promotion. I have bought my favorite wrestling promotion from one of the nicest men in the wrestling business, Jim Crockett Jr. Everyone's contract in talent and production will transfer in the sale and they will all get a 20% increase in pay due to any sort of inconvenience this sale might cause. Our announcement on the wrestling side is that all titles will be vacant and starting this Saturday Feb 20th, he will start our tournaments to determine new Mid-Atlantic, Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions and a new U.S Heavyweight Champion. We will announce the seeds and information on when the finals for each title will be.
