  1. Three minutes to pin a Guerrero is an impossible task even for the likes of Bill Dundee. Some funny stuff here in Florida while keeping the pretense of seriousness. Now, we have the lawyer saga for next week - just one of those things to keep the fans tuning in. Enjoying the Top Gun stuff and throwing Ricky Santana into the mix extends it, making for both singles matches and tags. Good stuff there. The promo by Dory was excellent and didn't really require much of Humperdink in any way. Again, another funny spot in a super serious segment especially considering Dory Fink being involved. Now, the ball is in Kendall's court. Don't envy him much. Precious turning Lancaster's words against him was another funny spot, accepting a Handicap match challenge. Christmas card looks really good.
  2. Voiceover: You are watching Bluegrass Championship Wrestling on WPSD-TV, Channel 6. Wrestling action to snappy music plays interspersed with images of Kentucky to kick off the program. Bluegrass Championship Wrestling December 14th, 1989 TV Taping - WPSD-TV, Channel 6 Studios Paducah, Kentucky Announcers: Bert Prentice & Ronnie Gossett Referee: Bruno Laurer We are back! Host Bert welcomes everyone to Bluegrass Championship Wrestling's Power Half Hour and introduces his co-host Ronnie Gossett is pretty sure everyone knows who he is by now. Bert says that if he didn't introduce him, Ronnie would complain about it. Gossett nods his head and says probably. Anyway, back to today's program ... what do we have in store for today? Jason Sterling takes on the Zebra Kid. Gossett doesn't know much about Sterling other than he comes to us from Texas, he wrestles barefoot and his father is quite a wrestler in his own right, making Jason and his brother second generation wrestlers. Bert shoots him a look and wonders what kind of synopsis we would get if Ronnie actually knew something about the wrestler. Gossett says Bert is just jealous and he shouldn't use such big words in these parts ... the people here are not too bright. Bert tells him to cut that out and apologizes. Oh by the way, Gossett is happy to report he was able to dig down deep into the identity of the witchy woman who has been out here the last two weeks. Her name is Lock and she has ties to the Prince of Evil, Kevin Sullivan. Looks like Sullivan wants to spread his darkness all across the state of Kentucky with it's own history of witches and gypsies over the last 300 years. Bert finds her downright scary and Gossett says that isn't all as she brings in a tag team for our main event. The two unfortunate souls having to deal with that are the Hillbillies who are still reeling from their defeat at the hands of the Cuban Assassins ... Gary U.S. Royal comes out followed by youngster Bobby Starr in a red, white and blue singlet. Royal says he's going take this young man under his wing and promises to take care of the likes of the Cuban Assassins and the Tazmaniac! Starr is proud to stand with Royal and promises he will do everything in his power to make sure Royal and all these good people believe in him! There you have it, Bert goes to a commercial break. ----- COMMERCIAL BREAK ----- We return to Bert telling Ronnie to behave before throwing it to the ring! The Zebra Kid versus Jason Sterling The masked man heels it up with the fans before we get to the match and after the bell refuses to get in the ring, slowing Sterling who looks ready to go. Finally underway, fairly athletic match with a speedy Sterling putting Zebra through his paces as he tries to slow the match down. Several armdrags, a high drop kick and a flying head scissor takedown gets the fans on their feet. A discombobulated Zebra is nearly pinned but is able to kick out of it. Throughout, Ronnie is trying to notify the referee that Sterling is cheating. The match is slowed when Sterling takes a thumb to the eye. Bert supposes Jason Sterling cheated there, too? Rake across the back has him in pain as the Zebra Kid follows him around the ring dishing it out. Clothesline leads to a cover and a two count that leaves the Kid arguing with ref Bruno over a slow count. Zebra follows with elbow drops and a fist drop from the middle rope to soften up Sterling before making another cover ... 1! 2! KICK OUT! Zebra jumps to his feet and celebrates a victory before Bruno pulls his arms down, saying it was only a two count. We get a shoving match between the two as the referee protects himself and Jason Sterling intervenes with an inside cradle ... 1! 2! 3! JASON STERLING HAS PINNED THE ZEBRA KID! Jason rolls out of the ring followed by the ref while the Zebra Kid kicks at the ropes and complains about the finish. Right now, we need to take a station break! ----- COMMERCIAL BREAK ----- Local ad with Tony Falk ... Tony Falk: Do you want to become a wrestler, a manager or a valet? Call the number below and we can get you on the path to stardom! Call today! Back to Bert and Ronnie with Bert repeating the phone number to call if anyone is looking for a career in the business. Gossett thinks it is a waste of time and money. Bert tells him to knock that off. Tony Falk is a well respected and seasoned wrestler in these parts. The Hillbillies come to the ring to a cheer and have the unenviable task of facing Lock's tag team, whoever they may be. Last week, we saw her Tazmaniac put on a one man demolition show, what does this week hold? We don't have to wait long to find out as the Tazmaniac follows her out to the ring. Bert says maybe we are getting a handicap match? NO! A second Tazmaniac makes his way out to the ring, grunting and growling at the fans as they move out of the way. They both charge the ring and get right to it! The Hillibillies versus The Tazmaniacs w/Lock. It is a brawl with the two wildmen on the attack. They toss Dennis to the outside and double team Donnie. Double hip toss into a stomp fest which looks like it is going to be an early night with Bruno counting towards a disqualification. They break off the attack just in time and Taz #2 hammers Donnie all over the ring. Taz #1 gets in and throws Donnie around. Big suplexes. Taz #2 nails Dennis getting on the ring apron to keep him away from the action. Double suplex and Taz #2 with a double stomp off the middle rope which draws a warning. The manhandled Donnie is thrown into his corner and we get a Hillbilly tag. Dennis in with right hands for Taz #1 who laughs it off and tags out. Taz #2 in and he invites right hands from Dennis and takes them, laughing as well. Gossett makes a comment about these two feeling no pain. Double clothesline puts Dennis down and he takes a stomping. Bert says these two are like sharks, circling for the kill. Outside the ring, Lock threatens fans, making wild gestures and hissing at them. Ronnie Gossett is glad she is staying over there. Both Hillbillies are dragged into the ring and beaten. No pin attempts in the match as the Tazmaniacs appear to be content just beating on their opponents. Lock with directions to her men and Taz #2 leaves the ring. He collects a folding chair and slides it into the ring. Taz #1 with a belly-to-belly suplex onto the chair and referee Bruno calls for the bell and the immediate disqualification. They don't stop there and continue the assault on the Hillbillies that has the fans in the studio pelting them in the ring. Lock climbs into the ring and directs her animals. Taz #1 grabs the chair and nails Donnie over the head. Dennis gets one before the Taz uses the chair to Dennis' throat. Ref Bruno calls for the bell again and Bert is calling for help from the back all the while Lock dances around the ring. Leaving the ring, Taz #1 with the chair eyes the camera and moves towards it. Getting right up to it, he swings the chair ... No video feed but we can hear the bell being rung over and over as well as the sounds of chaos and pandemonium around the ring ...
  3. Short version is okay by me. It works and told enough of a story to continue things along and to keep the viewer/reader wanting to come back next week. Too bad you don't have Kevin Sullivan to wreck havoc upon the Sunshine State along with Humperdink. Top Gun is a fun and interesting gimmick used by Sierra and could prove to be a thorn in Humperdink's side. Good win by Bill Dundee as he moves on in the tournament to face another Guerrero. Should be a good match.
  4. This week ... Around the Territory! Though new to the game and considerably smaller in scope than some of their bigger cousins, Bluegrass Championship Wrestling has certainly started with a bang with a mixture of hardcore ring veterans and some of the smaller athletic guys along with a few seasoned hands who have been not only durable but are known commodities in the area. Wrestlers Gypsy Joe and the Cuban Assassin, though largely kept off of television, have been tearing up the house show circuit with a bloody feud that fills the seats. Night in and night out, these two have been shedding each other's blood like nobody's business and continue to entertain and pack the houses. How long these two can continue on this break neck pace is anyone's guess. Another veteran with close ties to Memphis, Tony Falk, has been hawking his training school on television as well as working with new recruits and anyone interested in the business. Wrestlers, managers and valets are all fair game. With interest in the promotion from outside of the Kentucky/Tennessee area, Texas has provided the likes of Jason Sterling, the high flying barefoot Canadian that now calls the Dallas/Ft. Worth area home and joins the youngest son of the famed Von Erich family, Chris Von Erich. What Von Erich brings to the table is unknown but like his older brothers looks to take the family act outside of Texas. It should be noted that Kentucky has also become the new stomping grounds of several women wrestlers looking to ply their trade. Of note, Misty Blue Simmes has come to the territory with hopes of showing just what she can do in the squared circle.

  6. Voiceover: You are watching Bluegrass Championship Wrestling on WPSD-TV, Channel 6. Wrestling action to snappy music plays interspersed with images of Kentucky to kick off the program. Bluegrass Championship Wrestling December 7th, 1989 TV Taping - WPSD-TV, Channel 6 Studios Paducah, Kentucky Announcers: Bert Prentice & Ronnie Gossett Referee: Bruno Laurer We are back! Host Bert welcomes everyone to Bluegrass Championship Wrestling's Power Half Hour and introduces his co-host Ronnie Gossett. Gossett was surprised they had enough money to be here two weeks in a row. Bert wants to know if it is going to be "one of those days"? Ronnie says he's paid to tell it like it is and he can't help it if Bert can't handle the truth. Anyway, back to today's program ... we have Tim Renesto in action today, taking on Lou Winston which should be a good one. Allen Martin takes on Tony Williams and in our opener, we've got a couple of youngsters with Bobby Starr and Johnny Hotbody. Ronnie is not impressed with this lineup. It was better last week when the Cuban Assassins were in the studio. Today's episode should be a real snoozer and thinks someone should be ashamed of themselves. Bert tells him to cut that out. Okay, now that they cut through all the red tape, Ronnie Gossett tells Bert to go ahead and ask his questions. Bert wants to know what Gossett is blabbering about now? You know you want to ask. Go ahead. Bert wants to know what he is supposed to be asking about? Go ahead ask whatever you want ... Bert wants to know if we can just get on with the rest of the program? Gossett says that when God was handing out brains, Bert must have been playing hooky that day. You want to know what's in my wrestling museum ... the nationally recognized wrestling museum, he adds. Oh brother. Okay, Bert bites and asks what's in the museum? Gossett won't answer that because he has to pay the entry fee first! Gossett charges people to go to his museum? Bet that makes a lot of money. Gossett says it does ... much more than he gets paid for his expertise on this program. He does say that his prized possession is the Assassin mask worn by Tom Renesto Sr. and was given to Ronnie Gossett after they won the World titles. Rolling his eyes, Bert goes to a commercial break. ----- COMMERCIAL BREAK ----- We return to Bert telling Ronnie to behave before throwing it to the ring! Bobby Starr versus Johnny Hotbody. We get the bell and the two men tie up ... The woman from last week makes her way to the ring followed by someone in a black hooded robe. She says something and pulls the hood back. The wild looking man jumps into the ring and attacks both men. He softens them up with forearms before ragdolling them with suplexes. Referee Bruno Laurer calls for the bell then tries to jump in but quickly backs away when the man with the crazed look in his eye comes for him. We keep getting the bell and Bert Prentice calling for Security to come out here. The woman gets into the ring and says something to her man and pulls the hood back over his head which seems to immediately immobilize him. She leads him to the back to a chorus of boos. Right now, we need to restore order and take a station break! ----- COMMERCIAL BREAK ----- Back from commercial, we are back with the hosts talking about what happened before the break. Gossett wants to know why his safety isn't more of a concern with that woman being allowed to run around here and do as she pleases? This needs to be nipped in the bud before the hoodoo only gets worse. Not that again? Gossett calls Bert an unbeliever but mark his words, he knows better. Bert wants him to stop that but Ronnie says he won't and as a son of gypsies and a long line of Romney witches, he knows ... Bert gives him a look and says that if Ronnie Gossett is a gypsy, well then he's the King of England, now can we get back to the wrestling? Tony Williams versus Allen Martin. Quick little match with the technician Martin slowing the pace against Williams who comes out all fired up. Slow and steady wins the race today as Martin rolls Williams all over the mat and finally pinning him. Martin joins Bert and Ronnie. Talks about wrestling here in Kentucky and Southern style rasslin that he is used to which should get him far. Mentions looking forward wrestling for a belt and representing the great folks here in the Studio and watching from home. Bert sends it to a break. He says that Ronnie should call, maybe they could train him to simply be a better person. Oh har de har har! Ronnie says he's been there, done that. Wrestler ... check. Manager ... check. He adds championship wrestler as well as a manager of champions. Maybe Bert should call and get some training on how to be a REAL announcer. Bert says that Ronnie should be one to talk. Gossett says he could do a MUCH better job all by himself, without Bert holding them back. Moving on ... we have Tim Renesto taking on Lou Winston ... Tim Renesto versus Lou Winston. Handshake to start things off. Some basic wrestling to start as they try to feel out their opponents. Winston works the arm, not letting Renesto get free no matter what he counters with. Bert calls the former tag team specialist a wily ring veteran who knows all the tricks of the trade. Ronnie says that Renesto would have the veteran savvy IF he had followed in his father's footsteps. Bert tells him to knock that off. Throughout the match, Gossett reminisces about the good old days when the likes of the Assassins ruled the territories. They don't make wrestlers like Tom Renesto anymore. Eye roll from Bert as he continues to call the match. Winston catches Renesto with a flying cross body block but Tim is able to roll through and come out on top ... 1! 2! Winston kicks out. Gossett says that wouldn't have happened if he was Renesto's manager. Bert asks if he would have held Winston's legs down? Of course not, that would be cheating. Irish whip on Renesto who slides through Winston's legs on the return. Standing drop kick sends Lou through the ropes to the outside. Bouncing back against the ropes, Renesto takes off ... baseball slide to the outside and wipes out Winston. He slaps a few hands before rolling Winston into the ring. On the ring apron, Renesto pumps his fist in the air before using the ropes to propel himself up and into the ring ... LEGDROP! HE HOOKS A LEG! 1! 2! 3! TIM RENESTO PICKS UP THE WIN! Imagine that, Tim Renesto did his daddy proud as Renesto celebrates with the fans. That's all the time today as Bert Prentice signs off but reminds everyone to come back next week for more Bluegrass Championship Wrestling!
  7. Bluegrass would like to bring in the following: Chris Von Erich Lou Winston Not on the list: Alan Martin Tony Williams Dirty White Girl

  10. Voiceover: You are watching Bluegrass Championship Wrestling on WPSD-TV, Channel 6. Wrestling action to snappy music plays interspersed with images of Kentucky to kick off the program. Bluegrass Championship Wrestling November 30th, 1998 TV Taping - WPSD-TV, Channel 6 Studios Paducah, Kentucky Announcers: Bert Prentice & Ronnie Gossett Referee: Bruno Laurer Host Bert welcomes everyone to Bluegrass Championship Wrestling's Power Half Hour and introduces his co-host Ronnie Gossett. Bert is excited to be here, ready for all the action while Ronnie doesn't seem to want to be there and isn't surprised that Bert is excited. The two back and forth as to why Bert is seated on the left side which is Ronnie's better side and him trying to steal Ronnie's thunder. Bert with a snide comment about Ronnie's size and weight, being hard to hide him from the camera, not matter where he sits. Anyway, back to today's program ... we have Todd Morton in action. Ronnie comments about not being able to swing a cat without hitting a Morton. Bert mentions Todd being related to RIcky Morton and being a pretty good wrestler in his own right. Ronnie will believe that when he sees it. We also have the Cuban Assassins taking on the Hillbillies! Dennis and Don are in for a tough time against the Cubans. Ronnie wonders if the Cuban Assassin can be his lifeline to getting some Cuban cigars. Bert tells Ronnie to stop that. Moving on, Bert says that Tim Renesto will be joining them today. Ronnie excitedly talks about Renesto's father, Tom Renesto, also known as one half of The Assassins. They were a sight to behold in their heyday. Ronnie wonders if Tom is embarrassed how his sons, Tim and Tom Jr. turned out in the business. He knows he would be, that's for sure. Bert tells him to cut that out. Bert dares him to ask Tim Renesto that question but a scoffing Ronnie says he doesn't have to because he already knows the answer. Rolling his eyes, Bert goes to a commercial break. ----- COMMERCIAL BREAK ----- We return to Bert telling Ronnie to behave before throwing it to the ring! Todd Morton versus The Convict #1 Convict heels it up, attacking before the bell and getting the better of Morton in the early going. Morton kicks out of a pin attempt that leads to The Convict threatening the referee for a slow count, also giving Morton time to clear the cobwebs. Morton makes a comeback, taking over the match with the fans solidly behind him. A series of dropkicks softens up the criminal before a flying body press ends the match. The fans cheer for the victorious Morton. Tim Renesto joins our hosts and is welcomed by Bert to the program. Ronnie gushes about Renesto's father Tom who was a hero of his growing up which Bert refutes, saying both men are the same age. Ronnie goes on and on before hoping that Renesto is allowed to continues his father's legacy with the mask as The Assassin, something that his older brother wasn't allowed. Bert tells Renesto to ignore Gossett before adding that Renesto will be in action right here, nest week but right now, we need take a station break! ----- COMMERCIAL BREAK ----- Back from commercial, we are back with the hosts when a barefoot woman in a black robe slinks out from the back. The woman screams as she approaches. Ronnie Gossett jumps out of his chair like he is ready to get into the buffett line and gets behind the seated Bert Prentice. The woman nears, speaking gibberish which gets a weird reaction from Gossett who makes several hand gestures and hisses at her like a cat. She hisses back at him before leaving. Bert tells Gossett to get out from behind him. Ronnie goes on a tirade about the hoodoo from the witchy woman. Bert wants to know how he knows about this? Gossett says there is a lot about him that Prentice doesn't know, like his nationally recognized Wrestling Museum. Bert says he doesn't have a museum. Comedy bit with the two going back forth - yes, he does, no, he doesn't before it is time for our match. The Hillbillies (Dennis & Don Allen) versus The Cuban Assassins The fired up Assassins bring the brawl with the bell, attacking both Hillbillies until the referee can restore order. Back and forth match with the Cubans bringing a little more to the table and when things start to go against them, they resort to cheating. Hillbilly Dennis gets a near fall on Cuban #2 before it is broken up by the Cuban veteran. Don gets in and is immediately isolated and double teamed. Ring shaking double suplex and a big elbow drop from the middle rope. Cuban Assassin #2 chases off Hillbilly Dennis as Cuban Assassin hooks a leg for the pinfall. The Cubans are booed as they celebrate in the ring while Dennis checks on his brother. That's all the time today as Bert Prentice signs off but reminds everyone to come back next week for more Bluegrass Championship Wrestling!
  11. TONIGHT! TONIGHT! TONIGHT! From the Marshall County High School * Benton, Kentucky Home of the Marshals 1. Jason Sterling pinned The Shadow. 2. The Hillbillies defeated The Convicts. 3 Gary U.S. Royal won over The Cuban Assassin II. ** 4. Gypsy Joe and The Cuban Assassin battled to a Double DQ. *** * Decent house show the day before Thanksgiving for the new promotion. The gymnasium packed in some 300 paying customers. ** The red, white and blue wearing Royal kicked it up a notch when his opponent got his hands on Royal's patriotic leather jacket and threatened to destroy it. *** Bloody affair that featured very little wrestling as the two fought all over the gym. The referee finally threw the match out when neither man would get back into the ring.

A television deal has been struck, bringing all the action to Saturday mornings at 11 am on WPSD-TV, Channel 6. 15. You want SMW? You can have it
  16. SMW drops Bart Sawyer, Bobby Blaze, JT Smith and Tarek the Great. That should get me to where I need to be.
  17. Don't change that channel all that flippin' around! You're about to see the hottest show in town. The biggest stars and the biggest brawls, the biggest hits and the biggest falls. Non stop action no messin' around, pretty soon we're comin' to your town. The way you like it, the way it used to be...Smoky Mountain Wrestling's on TV! You are watching professional wrestling on Knoxville's WEEE-LP, UPN Channel 32! Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV Episode #1 From the WEEE TV Studios in Knoxville, TN Air Date: Friday, August 30th, 1997 Announcer: Bob Caudle Referee: Aubrey Wayne and Mark Curtis The program opens to music over previous wrestling action before coming to the familiar face of announcer Bob Caudle in the confines of a television studio, in front of the SMW logo and a live studio audience. He welcomes everyone to the return of wrestling ... the way you like it and the way it used to be as Smoky Mountain Wrestling returns to the airwaves ... and it didn't take long before trouble comes along! Bob Caudle says this visit was not on the schedule ... Jim Cornette: Now hold on one second, Bob. I am here to say some nice things about Bert Prentice who was running the show here last year before it all went away. I mean this sincerely when I say that Bert Prentice is a Con Man and a Snake Oil Salesman! He is the epitome of a Used Car Salesman ... and believe me, Bob, I mean that with all sincerity. Caudle rolls his eyes and shakes his head. Jim Cornette: Those were the nice things I can say here on TV about Bert. I know, I know, Bob what you are thinking ... I'm just here to say something nasty about Bert Prentice and to probably pick on you at some point but that just isn't the case. After Bert ran this territory into the ground, stuffed his pockets with whatever cash he could take from these fans then closed the doors, I had a change of heart. You see, Bob, this area holds a special place in my heart. This is where wrestling was done the way it was supposed to be AND it was done in front of the best and most knowledgeable fans who know and appreciate a good wristlock over a wrist watch. They appreciate good wrestling over cartoon character buffoons and a chair shot that begins a feud ... Caudle thinks it does sound different than the usual Jim Cornette bashing people over the head with his tennis racket. He likes this Jim better. Jim Cornette: Getting to the point, I bought SMW lock, stock and barrel from Bert Prentice. I was able to secure a television deal as well as some of those who wrestled here before. I also think Smoky Mountain will be the place to see some of tomorrow's superstars today as they kick off their careers. I just ask everyone to be patient with us as we grow, starting today with our Power Half Hour! The fans cheer as Bob Caudle sends us off to our first commercial break! x-x-x-x-x COMMERCIAL BREAK x-x-x-x-x Local commercials as well as programming for the evening. Caudle talks about MItchell who was here previously, glossing over the "transformation" he went through to get to where we are here today, having replaced the Moondogs with these Night Terrors. He then moves on to their opponents, a pair of youngsters by the name of Joey Matthews and Christian York who are brothers by another mother. A dynamite pair looking to establish themselves here in SMW! The Night Terrors w/Father Jim Mitchell versus Christian York & Joey Matthews. Referee Aubrey Wayne. Mitchell sends in his masked men before the bell for a sneak attack to set the stage for the early going in the match. Mitchell is also able to get involved, slapping York and tripping up Matthews with his cane for a near pinfall. With the fans support, York and Matthews make a come back with some nifty double teaming with a double drop kick that knocks down both masked men AND Father Jim! York does the honors as Matthews holds off the Terror who tries to make the save. With the loss, Mitchell tries to send the Terrors back in for the attack but Matthews and York are ready. Thinking better of it, Mitchell pulls the Terrors back, promising this is far from over! Caudle praises the win by York and Matthews with the fans cheering as he sends it to a commercial break. x-x-x-x-x COMMERCIAL BREAK x-x-x-x-x Local commercials as well as programming for the evening. Kyle, with the size comes on like gangbusters, looking to bully SIlver Wings in the early going but finds himself quickly frustrated as SW uses his speed get himself out of predicaments as well as use hit and run tactics to get in some offense. Killer Kyle looks to have gotten back in control, snatching Silver Wings out of midair, catching him doing a crossbody block. Adjusting the weight, Killer Kyle is able to throw him through the air but the wiry guy lands on his feet ready for more action. Silver Wings wears Kyle down but a ref bump saves the big man who is able to turn the tide following an eye rake. No pin attempts, just a beating to take out the frustrations from earlier in the match. The fans start chanting Silver WIngs to bring him back into the match. A head scissors take down puts Kyle on the mat, allowing Silver Wings to climb the ropes ... TORNADO DDT! Mark Curtis crawls into position ... 1! 2! 3! SILVER WINGS HAS DEFEATED KILLER KYLE! 22. Wrestling at the Chase Central States Wrestling Friday 5-3-1989 from the Chase Park Plaza Hotel St. Louis, Missouri Announce Team: Jay French and "The Professor" Marty Goldstein Match #1 Kevin Clark pinned Ken Jugan. Clark bounced back from a tough loss last time to Sterling with a win over Jugan though it was not as easy as Clark had told the fans. Match #2 Jason Sterling defeated Todd Morton. Fast paced match that saw Sterling go over Morton with a flying cross body block. Match #3 The Sandman & Ray Odyssey w/Miss Peaches went over Anthony Durante & Gary Wolfe by DQ. The Surfers in a hard hitting match against the very physical youngsters came out on the winning end when Bruno's Interns stormed the ring and attacked. All four men chased them off before shaking hands in the middle of the ring. Promoter Bob Geigel came out during a break in the action and announced that next week's main event would be a rematch of the previous bout ... AND ... if Bruno or the Interns interfered, they would be banned from Central States Wrestling for 30 days! Match #4 Central States Heavyweight Title Match Tom Renesto Jr. w/ Lou Albano successfully defended his title against Omar Atlas. Atlas brought everything he had in his veteran arsenal to take the belt off Renesto and nearly succeeded after suplexing the Champ all over the ring. Renesto weathered the storm thanks to his manager. Renesto shook off the cobwebs and again thanks to Albano was able to pick up the win and defend his title, using a foreign object slipped to him.
  23. He actually had two sons that wrestled. I don't remember seeing the other brother, but I do remember seeing Jason wrestle in Texas. Not the biggest guy but do remember him being pretty good. Opener/lower mid-card guy but was always a decent match. That certainly is a shocker to me because Capt. Lou has ALWAYS been the manager of Tom Renesto Jr.
  24. Wrestling at the Chase Central States Wrestling Friday 4-22-1989 from the Chase Park Plaza Hotel St. Louis, Missouri Announce Team: Jay French and "The Professor" Marty Goldstein Match #1 Jason Sterling pinned Kevin Clark. The barefoot Canadian and son of the Missing Link proved to be a tough individual against an equally tough opponent. Following the match, the two shook hands in a show of good sportsmanship. Match #2 The Cuban Assassin and Omar Atlas brawled to a Double Disqualification. Both veterans refused to listen to the referee. Match #3 Anthony Durante & Gary Wolfe defeated The Allen Boys. Tag team action with two very young teams. Promoter Bob Geigel came out during a break in the action and announced the main event as a title match for the Central States Heavyweight Belt. In honor of all those who have wrestled at the Chase in the past, the match would be a purely scientific affair! Match #4 The Interns w/Downtown Bruno lost to The Sandman & Ray Odyssey w/Miss Peaches. It could have gone either way but Miss Peaches took Bruno out of the picture which pushed her boys to victory. Match #5 Central States Heavyweight Title Match Tom Renesto Jr. w/ Lou Albano won over Ricky Santana to become the CSW Champion. One would have thought a scientific match would be more advantageous to Renesto but Santana was up to the task and showed his mat skills. Back and forth the two went with several near pinfalls to get the fans out of their seats. Albano with some trickery, passed a roll of quarters to Renesto before distracting the referee to allow Renesto to cold cock Santana. Ricky Santana was not going to kick out of this one. Tom Renesto Jr. won the title. The fans did their best to inform the referee but to no avail as Albano yanked his man from the ring before someone changed their mind.
  25. This Week ... in Central States Wrestling #1 - While the Central States territory has been largely vacant minus the occasional spot shows here and there, promoter Bob Giegel has moved forward with giving the area a go. Iowa, Kansas and Missouri appear to be the target states for the territory, at least to begin with. - The former St. Louis promotion brought in bigger names which may have been one of the reasons for it's downfall. Geigel has decided to go with the unknown and younger talent route. If the want for wrestling is there, bigger names (ie. higher paid talent) can always be brought in but Giegel said "It's an easier pill to swallow if no one comes out to the matches rather than what St. Louis tried, blowing the bank on just a couple of wrestlers". - As a test over the past week, Central States has been putting on house shows, testing the market as well as setting up their weekly circuit. To not oversaturate the first week's "blitz" of shows, Geigel's been running short cards to create some buzz. As has been found, the gates have been good so the interest is certainly there for the time being. Geigel says "Wrestling fans are a fickle sort, so you have to strike when the iron is hot." - Two programs have been featured on the shows. The main event has been the handsome high flying Ricky Santana and the ring veteran Tom Renesto Jr. but the "star" of this program has been manager Captain Lou Albano. If you ask, Lou will be happy to tell you himself that he's the star of the whole promotion and maybe he's got something there as the fans have flocked to him, no matter what he's done. Lou's been all over the place promoting himself as well as doing whatever he can to help Renesto win. Though it hasn't worked out well for Renesto every time, he has picked up some victories thanks to his manager! - The second feud has been between the babyface Surfers, Ray Odyssey and The Sandman with Miss Peaches against Downtown Bruno's Interns. Bruno has done what he can to help his men win but Miss Peaches has often been the equalizer, keep Bruno out of the picture. - With successful house shows, television would be the next step for the promotion. A weekly show does wonders in drumming up business for the road. No word yet as to when it might happen but rumors have been swirling of preliminary talks with station KDNL, Channel 30 with Friday evenings being the target.
