Yeah, most of them were actually reported in the Observer or in the Tributes book, at least the ones involving dead wrestlers. The FVordell Walker-Steiner one was true. Many of them also come from the shoot interviews out there. It isn't that you shouldn't believe the stories given by the readers but rather the wrestlers who told them.
-
' I swore I was the only person under 30 who had heard this song. Rock on I only have one for now... "Accidents Will Happen" by Elvis Costello for RVD.
-
This interview was just surreal but Sean Royal of the New Breed did the worst interview ever. This was Sid level-bad. The Dusty impersonation was ok but imagining Chris Champion was next to him combined with a bad vocabulary and idiot savante delivery was hilarious. "the New breed is alive and well and we are feeling... alive?"

Was Nash booking in mid-98 when they strung together horrible PPV after horrible PPV? I know this killed me more than the Goldberg loss or the fingerpoke.

Depends who has the most roid rage at that point of the month.

I am going to add a few more... - The demise of the UWF. first, after watching the Mid-South discs and then seeing the guys in the NWA, this has to be a low-point. Watts had money in the bank with Mid-South and it just couldn't work out in the end. - The stretch of WCW PPV (beginning with Bash at the Beach and ending in Starrcade) runs in 1998 where every show was horrible except Halloween Havoc. Seriously, I loved WCW so much at the time and I saw it slip through the cracks. I knew the prodcut was dying but wanted to believe it would rebound. - At the time, I was intrigued and saddened by the entire Montral escapade. - I can't believe no one has mentioned it yet, and if they did I missed it, but Owen Hart's death at Over the Edge 99. What made it worse for me was the "tribute" the next night that ended with Austin bashing beers in a "salute" to a man who had broke his neck, he personally didn't like and never forgave, refused to work with, stood for all the things that Owen didn't like about the industry... yet there was Austin. This is also the only time I ever believed HHH showed any genuine emotion. If he was acting, it was the best acting job of his career. -
- With the news that CM Punk is now in WWE and Joe is in TNA, I am kind of saddened. I would hope that one day their paths will cross again. - The hypothetical situation Meltz talks about is similar to the incident with Vordell Walker and Steiner on an indy show. Steiner was taking liberties on Walker and Vordell got the better of him. If this happened in WWE, I could see management placing the younger guy in some stupid gimmick and jobbing him out to appease the bully. - Loss, can you explain what you meant when you said HHH would blame his on the downfall of the company? From reading this, it sounds like this would be a positive in keeping SD! alive or am I misreading it? - I didn't know his "vacation" was up.

That is horrible. No wonder guys like Jay Bower make that their new home. -
I was talking about being there live. Once at the RAW where Dude Love debuted and won the tag titles and the 9/10/01 RAW. IT also helped during the Nitros I went to also.
-
Once again, they serve a purpose esp. when their are horrible matches happening I would rather look at the signs in the crowd than watch a bad wrestling match
-
Signs existed in the crowd long before the Monday Night wars. And they also serve as a good distraction when the match you are watching is the shits.
-
THe biggest issue so far is that if they wanted to improve SD!, they should have waited until near the end to trade the champion and they shouldn't be trading off equal talent. Benoit is the equivalent of Angle in terms of what the company thinks they have to offer and Cena and Orton are about the same at this stage of their career.
-
Absolutely, and if Bull would have been able to display this kind of emotion on TV (h was never allowed to) then his career may have taken a very different path. Then again, maybe the crappy wrestling would be too much to overcome anyway.
-
I'm in.
-
maybe we should start the roll call thread to see who is willing to participate.
-
Sure, it can be self-absorbed but it is one of the few ways the crowd can interact with the product. Wrestling during the Monday night wars was as much about the event than the actual show. If they just banned signs than you take away part of that atmosphere. You make your signs, you get on a few seconds of TV, you go home happy. No problem. But what kills me is this groupthink ideal and the fact that McMahon now does what he used to claim WWF never did AND what he would lambast WCW for doing. If the crowd is too smart ofr your product than maybe you need to smarten your product up instead of trying to dumb down your audience.

I am on the complete opoosite side of the fence. I think that if a fan makes a sign, that does not obstruct the view from someone else during a match and has no bad words then they should be able to display it. That was one of the great things about the Monday Night wars environment, seeing the signs. Watching each show to see what some jackass would put up. If you really want the fans to feel like they are a part of the show, confiscating signs is not the way to win back fans yo ualready lost or keep the ones you already have.

No Mercy 2001 Speaking of RVD, I was disappointed with the entire 2002 King of the Ring. -
Courtesy of the Meltz... So, Orton is now on SD!. Good, bad, I don't know.
-
Honestly, to meet your criteria, no one. Key words being good AND current. If I want results, I read Meltzer's updates. If I want good reviews, I look through our match review folder although it is dormant at the moment.

I know there are a ton of them... Katie Vick The unsatisfying finish to Angle-Trips The three new guys losing at Fully Loaded 2000 etc. I don't want this to turn into a wrestlecrap thread because there are dozens of wrestlecrap moments that are some of my favorite moments. However, what angle or finish or match made you embarassed to be a wrestling fan? Or, what angle, match, or finish upset ou because of the outcome? So far, I have been watching about 10 hours of NWA tv, and by far, the worst thing this company did in this time was the scaffold matches between the MX and the Road Warriors. Just a horrible idea that was horribly executed. Tully Blanchard pinning Ricky Steamboat at Starrcade 84. This is the mark in me where my least favorite wrestler beats my favorite. It sucks. Honkytonk Man pinning Steamboat for the IC title. At the time, I thought it was a fluke to give HTM a little bit of a rub and Steamer would win it back. then he disappeared. That sucked.

Speaking of wrestlers, whatever happened to Shawn Royal and Chris Champion, the New Breed? I remember these guys and those hairdos are embarassignly bad. Did they ever do anything of significance? did they ever fix their haircuts?
