What is helping the soccer push right now is there are a lot of sports media types and even the networks pushing it heavily and pounding people over the head with it so it makes people that wouldn't normally watch it check it out. Also the youth participation in soccer has grown exponentially in the last 10 years which also helps.
The thing is I believe wrestling will have a stigma to certain people in the media forever. When WWE was at it's peak 15 years ago they were getting killed by the mass media but it didn't matter because they were doing big business.
People like Jim Rome & Colin Cowherd who just bury wrestling fans whenever they get a chance including people that are their friends it's a lost cause.
Like I tweeted to Meltz earlier when he was talking about it....there are a lot of pundits who believe that soccer will be the #2 sport in the US in 10 years. Soccer as a brand is growing big
MKJ and other people are running with a story saying that Bryan has a neck injury that will keep him out of the ring tonight and may hinder him even longer.
His terrible timing issues continue
Jushin Thunder Liger has been a name to American fans for 22 years the others not so much. Liger competed on WCW PPV's and TV on a sporadic basis for 5 years
Normally I would agree but there was a sense among a lot of fans that they wanted Bryan/Trips to be over with especially after a Bryan clean win because you never know how another match would go finish wise. The old quit while you are ahead theory.
Rovert is right........WrestleZone is probably the most popular NEWZ site out there right now. Every one of my non-internet wrestling fans ask me about stuff they saw on WrestleZone not from Meltz or MKJ directly.
The one issue I've had with the Bryan character the last month is the fact they have pushed Brie as his wife like crazy and we know that in the past that hasn't been the best thing to do with wrestlers who are over with males.
Johnny bringing up Ole made me think of another question.
How did the whole JCP/CWA/Georgia merger come about in 1984 and what went into why it fell apart.
Plus what all was promised to Lawler about being the NWA champion in 1985 by Crockett.
I would like to know if he thought that they way Memphis was booked.....which was Jerry Jarrett would book for a few months then Lawler would book a few months so and so on.....was the best way to book a promotion because of their different styles and kept the bookers fresh.
Also I can never hear enough about the proposed Memphis split in 1983 with Lawler & Lance splitting off from Jarrett to start their own promotion just 5 years after Jarrett split from Nick Gulas.
Another point was during the era that Lawler was beating all the big-name stars in Memphis were there any guys that were supposed to come in or they wanted to come in to face him that didn't happen.
