Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Victoria Memorial Arena, Victoria, on ESPN / TSN, February 2nd Steve Austin vs. Erin O'Grady The first match of the evening features two young up and comers who are making a big impression on the fans. While they have had some losses as they develop, both men have showed incredible promise and potential , with both gaining quite a following among the PCW crowds. Both men had their mentors, Bret Hart for Austin and Fit Finlay for the Leprechaun, in their respective corners, giving advice and moral support. Just a couple of weeks ago, O'Grady had scored the pinfall in a 10 man match in Fresno and was clearly buoyed by the success, putting in an incredibly energetic and fiery effort against Austin. The genial Texan fought back hard in turn, and the two men had a fast paced and heated battle. Austin kept his cool and his judgment was able to spell the difference, catching O'Grady coming off the ropes and hitting the Stun Gun. A big win for Austin but both men earned a round of applause from the fans for an exciting match. Billy Gunn & The Southern Boys vs. The Oregon Wrecking Crew (Billy Jack Haynes, Gary Albright & David Young) After the shocking betrayal from their former friend Billy Jack Haynes, the Southern Boys have struggled to regain the momentum that they had as Pacific Tag Team Champions. Eager to get back on the proverbial horse, Armstrong and Smothers brought in Billy Gunn to get another shot at Haynes and his Oregon Wrecking Crew allies. The Crew went after the Southern Boys hard, but the handsome cowboy proved to be a good influence on his teammates, providing encouragement as well as timely saves when the Crew had them in a predicament. While they acquitted themselves well, The Wrecking Crew ultimately overpowered them when Albright pinned Gunn following a takeover suplex. It looked like Haynes was going to put Gunn in the Full Nelson after the match, but the Southern Boys blocked the way and, seeing the fire in their eyes, the Wrecking Crew decided to simply return to the locker room. A tough loss, but the Southern Boys have shown they are not out of the game by a long chalk. The Dreamboats (Tommy Dreamer & Glamour Boy Shane) vs. The Juice Crew (Beetlejuice & Big Juice) This was a showdown between two of the up and coming teams on the West Coast. The Dreamboats have rapidly become one of the most popular teams in PCW, with their good looks and positive attitudes garnering quite a following among both the women and the men. The Juice Crew, Art Barr … sorry, Beetlejuice's new duo, have gained a different kind of reputation, with their unpredictable antics and general lunacy making their matches considerably anticipated. The two teams went at it fist and fire in a crazy bout until the party was crashed by Scotty The Body and Johnny Ace, who charged the ring and attacked Dreamer and Shane. Tina Ferrari was with them, but contented herself with glaring balefully at Trisa Hayes. As the ref called for the DQ, the Juice Crew gleefully pounced on the Dreamboats and joined in on the beatdown until Eddie Guerrero and the Force Of July came roaring out and ran them off. Scotty and Ace were red faced and raging as they bailed out of the ring, but the Juice Crew were cackling gleefully. Brian Lee vs. Shawn Cohen Brian Lee had something of a bumpy road in his rookie year, the Florida native withstood everything that was thrown at him and came out with his head held high. He has certainly come into 1989 looking focused and ready to go. Cohen certainly proved to be no match for the big Bulldozer, and after overpowering him and whipping him from pillar to post, Lee easily dispatched him with the Prime Time Slam. Lee is clearly looking to make a big impact in 1989. Pacific Television Title Match : Brian Pillman © vs. Johnny Ace Pillman may have defeated Buddy Rose at San Diego Battleground, but the Playboy's interest in the TV champ has not abated one bit, and Rose was at ringside for Pillman's match with the newest member of the Playboy Club. Rose was accompanied by Mike Awesome and Tina Ferrari, and throughout the match kept whispering to them while they nodded attentively. Ace really took it to Flyin' Brian, but the champ was able to gut it out and come back with the Air Pillman to pull out the victory. Despite the loss, Rose was clearly pleased with Ace's efforts and was all enthusiasm and encouragement as he led the Illustrious One back to the locker room. Bret Hart vs. Chris Adams Bret had a clear vendetta against Adams ever since the Englishman ran his brother Owen out of PCW. The Hitman has taken on several members of the Diamond Exchange since then but now he would be facing Adams himself. Bret may have wanted it to be a straightforward one on one, but the Diamond Exchange had other plans. Diamond Dallas Page and Bam Bam Bigelow were both at ringside, and both men interfered liberally throughout the match. Bret did what he could, but three to one odds were a lot to overcome. It eventually got so bad that Steve Austin ran down to ringside to come to his mentor's aide. This led the Exchange to redirect their attention to Stunning Steve, and he took a fair number of shots until Bret was able to break through the line and force the Exchange to retreat. The ref declared a no contest, and while Austin had a few welts and bruises for his efforts, he still wanted to go after them, only being calmed down after a fair amount of talking from Hart. Whether Bret likes it or not, it looks like Austin is now a part of his was with the Diamond Exchange.

I'd cry Fix for the tag result, but I know how tough those particular Russians can be. Top flight show again.

Pacific Coast Wrestling Show from the UCSB Event Center, Santa Barbara, January 28th The New Generation (Jerry Lynn, Chris Candido, Louie Spicolli, Dragon Azul & Silver King) vs. The Can-Am Express, The Midnight Express & Brian Christopher The New Generation continued their run of standout 10 man matches with another highlight performance. Once again, Brian Christopher couldn't seem to keep himself in check, with even his comrades in the Midnight Express unable to rein him in from going after Silver King. This led him to run right into the Silver Kick (Superkick) and give the win to the New Generation. Eddie Guerrero vs. The Jackal After Guerrero hit a crazy dive on the Jackal outside the ring, neither man was able to make it back into the ring in time, leading to a double countout decision. Toshiaki Kawada vs. Mike Awesome Despite a determined effort from Kawada, Awesome ultimately prevailed with a Power Bomb Steve Blackman vs. Erin O'Grady The Lethal Weapon was able to put down the pugnacious Leprechaun with a thrust kick out of the corner. Vic Steamboat vs. Masahiro Chono Chono was able to pin the Demon following a Samoan Drop 2/3 Falls Pacific Television Title Match : Brian Pillman © vs. Dean Malenko Malenko took the first fall with a Natural Bridge. Pillman came back to even things up with a spinning wheel kick. Pillman took the final fall with a DDT to successfully defend his title.

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the LA Sports Arena, Los Angeles, on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN, January 27th Kensuke Sasaki vs. The Soultaker The Soultaker pinned the Japanese rookie following the Exorcism (spine snapper backbreaker). The Force Of July (The Patriot & The Eagle) vs. The Juice Crew (Beetlejuice & Big Juice) The Juice Crew showed what they were made of when they gave the highly rated masked team a hell of a fight before the Patriot took Beetlejuice down with the Patriot Missile. Billy Gunn vs. Genichiro Tenryu Tenryu brought down Gunn with an Enzuigiri Shinya Hashimoto vs. Cactus Jack Hashimoto defeated the unpredictable Cactus Jack with a leaping spike DDT Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Destruction Crew © vs. Stormfront (Al Snow & Alex Porteau) This was a ferocious match that ended in a no contest with all four men in the ring slugging it out and ignoring the ref. Barry Windham, The Undertaker & Curt Hennig vs. Scott Hall, Dustin Rhodes & Brian Lee After last night, it would be no surprise that this was a crazy brawl, with Hall being the one to get the win for the Brigade with the Gator Breaker (Fallaway Slam) on Hennig. Once again, his partners had to pull him off Hennig after the match.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Olympic Auditorium , Los Angeles , on ESPN / TSN, January 26th The Southern Boys vs. The Juice Crew (Beetlejuice & Big Juice) The Southern Boys have taken quite a tumble in the past couple of months, not only losing the Pacific Tag Team Titles and their manager Sunshine, but sustaining several beatings at the hands of their former friend Billy Jack Haynes and his Oregon Wrecking Crew. Since then, Armstrong and Smothers have struggled to get in gear, and the Juice Crew eagerly took advantage of that. Not a good idea to show weakness in front of a hungry and bizarre team like Beetlejuice and Big Juice, who ran the Southern Boys ragged before taking down Armstrong with the Juice Loosener (Bearhug by Big Juice into a slingshot lariat by Beetlejuice). Hard times for the Southern Boys, but hopefully, they can recover. The Dreamboats (Tommy Dreamer & Glamour Boy Shane) vs. Daniel Lue & Roger Sexton In a very busy first few weeks of 1989 in PCW, the Dreamboat have emerged as a team to watch, and not just because of their manager, the lovely Trisa Hayes. They have impressed the fans and pulled off some high profile victories, including over members of the Playboy Club. Those victories clearly didn't sit well with said members of the Club, as Scotty The Body, Johnny Ace and Tina Ferrari came out before the match started and gave the evil eye to Trisa Hayes. Trisa didn't flinch and just gave them back a glare of her own until the Dreamboats interposed themselves and the Playboy Club returned to the locker room. The Dreamboats then proceeded to make short work of their opposition, with Dreamer forcing Lue to tap out to the Dream Weaver (modified sleeper hold). The Dreamboats are riding on a wave of success, but will have to expect some sort of confrontation with the Playboy Club sooner or later. Bret Hart & Steve Austin vs. Billy Jack Haynes & David Young Someone else who has made a strong impression in PCW has been Bret Hart's young pupil Steve Austin. While he has faced some tough losses but has shown considerable promise, and his mentor would be by his side for this tag match with members of the Oregon Wrecking Crew. Bret had tested Young's mettle last week, and was full of advice for Austin as he tangled with the "Roughneck". Austin acquitted himself well against Young, but was unable to hit the Stun Gun before Young tagged out to Haynes. Billy Jack levelled Austin with a clothesline, then executed several power moves before hitting the Shoulder Breaker to finish him off. Bret swept in after the match to discourage Haynes from inflicting any further damage, and the look in his eyes convinced the OWC to take him seriously and make a tactical withdrawal. I doubt anyone is going to try to mess with Austin as long as Hart is looking out for him. Stormfront (Al Snow & Alex Porteau) vs. Fit Finlay & Erin O'Grady The duo of Snow and Porteau has been making a determined push to get a shot at one of the two tag titles on the West Coast. They have certainly been coming on strong in any tag match they have had. Their opponents tonight are the Belfast Bruiser and his feisty apprentice. O'Grady managed to get some good shots in before Porteau was able to pin him following a takeover suplex. Stormfront aren't going to be satisfied until they get that title shot. Mike Awesome vs. Ryan Shoulders In spite of their troubles with the Dreamboats, the Playboy Club have been walking tall, intimidating their opposition with their hard line attitude. A big part of this has been one of their newest members, the menacing Mike Awesome. "Playboy" Buddy Rose accompanied Awesome to the ring and was clearly pleased as punch with his new charge's fearsome reputation. Awesome proved Rose's faith in him was well founded, destroying Shoulders with crushing power moves and polishing him off with a devastating power bomb. Mike Awesome certainly been living up to his hype … and his name. Barry Windham & Curt Hennig vs. Dustin Rhodes & Billy Gunn It didn't take long for the youngest member of the Brigade to jump into the fire of their feud with the Neighborhood Of Evil. Billy Gunn had his fellow Texan Dustin Rhodes by his side as he squared off with the Pacific Heavyweight Champ and Mr. Perfect, but he wasn't about to let himself get pushed around by his more experienced opponents. He gave a good accounting of himself against the Neighborhood, but his luck ran out when he ran right into a precision dropkick to the face by Hennig that stopped him in his track. Hennig then started to fire away with his Perfect offense, but that wound up being cut short when Scott Hall charged into the ring and attacked him. Hall was retaliating for Hennig's attack last week, but this wound up costing his colleagues the match by DQ, and Rhodes and Gunn had to pull Hall off Mr. Perfect. This feud is rapidly heating up to an incandescent level.

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Selland Arena, Fresno, January 21st The New Generation (Jerry Lynn, Chris Candido, Louie Spicolli, Dragon Azul & Silver King) vs. The Jackal, The Juice Crew (Beetlejuice & Big Juice), Fit Finlay & Erin O'Grady Once again, the New Generation had a long and exciting 10 man tag match, this time with a breakout performance from Erin O'Grady. The Leprechaun hit the Pot O' Gold (springboard bulldog) on Spicolli to get the win. Finlay enthusiastically embraced his pupil after the match, clearly proud of what he had accomplished. Steve Blackman vs. Chris Adams This was an incredibly close battle with Adams just barely able to dodge the running bicycle kick and hit the Superkick to pull out the win. Toshiaki Kawada & Kensuke Sasaki vs. The Can-Am Express Kawada and Sasaki are truly starting to gel as a team, with Sasaki pinning Lafon following a spinning forearm Al Snow vs. Bam Bam Bigelow Bigelow showed why he is the Beast From The East, crushing Snow with a slingshot splash The Rainbow Warriors (Vic Steamboat & Brian Adams) & Eddie Guerrero vs. The Midnight Express & Brian Christopher Cornette's men were their usual devious selves, plaguing their opponents with their considerable bag of tricks. Eddie was able to get one step ahead of them when it counted, dropkicking Cornette off the ringside apron before executing a rana on Christopher and rolling him up for the pinfall. Pacific Television Title Match : Brian Pillman © vs. Dean Malenko The evening closed with another epic match, with Flyin' Brian and the Iceman going to a 30 minute time limit draw.

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Cow Palace , San Francisco, on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN, January 20th The Dreamboats (Tommy Dreamer & Glamour Boy Shane) vs. Scotty The Body & Johnny Ace Ace and Tina Ferrari did all they could to keep Scotty focused on the match and not on Dreamboats manager Trisa Hayes, and for the most part, kept him in line. It still wasn't enough to keep him from missing that Shane had tagged out to Dreamer. He had Shane set up for the Body Shot (DDT), but was clotheslined from behind by Dreamer. Shane then held off Ace while Dreamer gave Scotty a Piledriver for the win. Scotty was livid as he left the ring, and it was all Ace and Tina could do to keep him from going after the Dreamboats post match. Gary Albright vs. Alex Porteau The Animal and the Pug had a solid technical duel that went to Albright when he pinned Porteau with a Dragon Suplex Bret Hart vs. David Young Young had his second match in two nights, once again giving a ferocious battle, this time with Bret Hart. He fought out of every attempt to get him in the Sharpshooter before finally being pinned after a belly to back suplex. The Hitman gave him a nod of respect before leaving the ring. Billy Gunn vs. Buddy Rose "The Rough Rider" Billy Gunn gave the Playboy a lot of trouble before being drawn into the Inside Out Backbreaker to give the win to Rose Dan Severn & Maxx Payne vs. Genichiro Tenryu & Masahiro Chono Severn was able to keep Tenryu out of the ring long enough for Payne to hit the Payne Threshold (front layout suplex) to score a major victory for the Citadel. Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Destruction Crew © vs. The Southern Boys The Southern Boys continued to struggle to get back on track, failing to regain their Pacific Tag Team Titles when the Destruction Crew defeated them with the Wrecking Ball on Smothers. Barry Windham & The Undertaker vs. Dustin Rhodes & Brian Lee This showdown between the Neighborhood Of Evil and the Brigade exploded with Undertaker and Lee brawling outside the ring. Windham was able to take out Rhodes with the Western Lariat, but Undertaker and Lee kept at it long after the end of the match, having to be separated by other members of the Neighborhood and the Brigade.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Oakland Alameda County Arena, Oakland, on ESPN / TSN, January 19th The Jackal vs. Jed Hildebrand After the past few weeks of striking from out of the shadows, the mysterious Jackal made his first appearance in a match this week. The other members of the Wild Things were there at ringside to observe their newest member. I don't think either they or Hildebrand were quite ready for what he unleashed. The masked man seemed creased as he let loose an all out assault on Hildebrand, mauling the rookie with crazed offense before putting him away with the Betrayal (top rope flying legdrop). That wasn't enough for the mystery man, as even after the match he locked Hildebrand in the Claws Of The Jackal (Iron Claw) until he was pulled off by Cactus Jack. Jack seemed quite concerned with the behaviour of the Jackal, but the rest of the Wild Things were congratulating their new member on the message he had sent. Steve Austin vs. Fit Finlay In his brief tenure on the west coast, Austin has wasted no time in getting right into the thick of things, taking on several skilled competitors. Tonight , he would be facing the tough Belfast Bruiser, and while Finlay certainly didn't take it easy on Austin, the Texan fought back with equal determination. As usual, Bret Hart was in Austin's corner, cheering him on. While Finlay was able to defeat Austin with the Rolling Hills, Austin had once again showed his potential and the fans applauded him as he left the ring. Steve Blackman vs. Cactus Jack Perhaps he was trying to keep up with the energy and attitude of the Jackal, but Cactus Jack attempted a similarly frenzied attack on Blackman. Unfortunately for him, he picked the wrong man to try this approach. The Lethal Weapon kept his cool and was able to weather out the storm, dodging out of the way of some of Cactus' offense and biding his time until he hit the running Bicycle Kick for the win. Cactus might be better off fighting his own way instead of trying to match the Jackal. The Juice Crew (Beetlejuice & Big Juice) vs. Robb Zbacnik & Ryan Aiken We seem to be seeing a lot of the Wild Things this evening, and their new tag team of the Juice Crew unleashed their own particular brand of madness on the rookies Zbacnik and Aiken. They easily dominated the duo with a blend of power and speed, swiftly dispatching Zbacnik with the Juice Loosener (Bearhug by Big Juice into a slingshot lariat by Beetlejuice), cackling madly all the way. Something tells me that these guys are going to get along just fine with the Jackal. Scott Hall vs. The Soultaker The last member of the Wild Things to have a match tonight was the sinister Soultaker, facing big Scott Hall in a battle of two powerhouses. Hall had pulled off the seemingly impossible feat of beating the Undertaker at San Diego Battleground, but the massive Soultaker was not about to be intimidated. The two rocked the ring with massive power moves, and the crowd were keen to see just who would come out on top. Unfortunately, they would not get an answer this time out, as Curt Hennig rushed out to the ring and attacked Hall, leading to a disqualification result. Disappointing, but it is likely that Hennig and Hall will have to settle their differences in the ring sooner or later. Brian Lee vs. David Young The evening would close out with "Bulldozer" Brian Lee facing off with a rookie who has quickly earned a name as someone not to be trifled with. "The Roughneck" David Young has made his mark with the Oregon Wrecking Crew as a ferocious competitor and he and Lee had a knock down, drag out fight with neither man holding back. Lee was able to keep out of the Spinebuster Slam but it still took a lot for him to land the Prime Time Slam to finally put down Young. Young had clearly earned Lee's respect as the Brigade member helped him up after the match and shook his hand. Whether it is as a single or part of a team, David Young is a force to be reckoned with.

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from McArthur Court, Eugene, January 14th Mike Awesome vs. Steve Armstrong Armstrong made his return to the ring, but might have wished that he hadn't as he got flattened by Awesome's power bomb. Steve Blackman vs. Wayne Bloom The Lethal Weapon kept his momentum going as he took out the Destruction Crew member with the running Bicycle Kick The New Generation (Jerry Lynn, Chris Candido, Louie Spicolli, Dragon Azul & Silver King) vs. The Can-Am Express, Fit Finlay, Erin O'Grady & Brian Christopher This was a long and epic match with all 10 men going all out. There were many high spots and near falls, and the fans were at the edge of their seats in anticipation as to just who would come out on top. Christopher seemed the least interested in cooperating with his teammates, and that wound up costing him as he walked right into the Silver Crash (rolling Fireman's Carry Slam) from Silver King and got him pinned. A major victory for the New Generation, but everyone in the match had gone up in the esteem of the fans. Rick Steamboat vs. Curt Hennig The last match was a tough match to follow, but these two superstars were up for the challenge. This was a rematch from San Diego Battleground and ended when Steamboat dodged the Ax Lariat from Hennig and countered with a crucifix to garner the pinfall. Golden State Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. The Dreamboats (Tommy Dreamer & Glamour Boy Shane) The young challengers did an admirable job of shutting down the trickery of Jim Cornette's men, but in the end their superior experience proved too much to overcome, with Shane going down to the Double Goozle. Pacific Television Title Match : Brian Pillman © vs. Cactus Jack The weekend wrapped up with another great title match. Cactus Jack had a real chip on his shoulder going in and really took it to the champ, but in the end, it was Flyin' Brian who prevailed with the Air Pillman.

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Portland Memorial Coliseum , Portland , on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN, January 13th Toshiaki Kawada, Kensuke Sasaki & Eddie Guerrero vs. The Oregon Wrecking Crew (Billy Jack Haynes, Gary Albright & David Young) Kawada, Sasaki and Guerrero put up a valiant fight but they couldn't withstand the onslaught of the OWC, with Young pinning Guerrero following a Spinebuster Slam Bret Hart vs. Scotty The Body Scotty seemed newly focused after the scolding that the Playboy and Tina Ferrari had given him, and Bret seemed a bit surprised at the ferocious fight that he got from The Body. It took not one but two piledrivers to put Scotty down for good, and afterwards Bret definitely looked like he had been in a full fledged war. Steve Austin vs. Buddy Rose Despite the welts and bruises from the last match, Bret Hart was in the corner of his pupil Steve Austin. "Stunning" Steve gave a good accounting of himself, but the veteran instincts of Buddy Rose were too much to overcome, as he lured Austin into the Inside Out Backbreaker to score the victory. Bret continued to be encouraging to Austin as he led him from the ring, although Austin seemed quite disappointed by the loss. The Force Of July (The Patriot & The Eagle) vs. Genichiro Tenryu & Masahiro Chono This was another hard hitting battle with both teams giving as good as they got. Patriot was able to hold off Tenryu long enough for Eagle to hit the Screaming Eagle (top rope missile dropkick) to give the win to the FOJ. California Title Match : Dustin Rhodes © vs. Steven Regal In what is something of a trend for this show, this was a ferocious brawl that spilled to the outside and went to a double countout. Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Barry Windham © vs. Shinya Hashimoto The evening closed out with a titanic title match between the Widowmaker and the tough Japanese star. Hashimoto was able to dodge the Western Lariat, but when he attempted a DDT, Windham blocked it and turned it around into a waistlock suplex to successfully defend his title.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Portland Sports Arena, Portland , on ESPN / TSN, January 12th Steve Austin vs. Masahiro Chono Young Steve Austin impressed many last week in his PCW debut, but this week marked a considerable upgrade in the level of opposition. He would be facing the hungry and aggressive Japanese star Masahiro Chono, who wasn't going to take it easy on the genial Texan in the slightest. Full credit to Austin, he gave it his best shot and was able to avoid Chono's dreaded STF. One thing he was not able to avoid was the Yakuza Kick, and Chono was able to flatten Austin with it for the win. Austin's mentor Bret Hart was supportive and encouraging after the match, and while he was clearly disappointed, Austin seemed to take the loss in stride. Chris Candido vs. Art Barr Candido has been showing a new positive since his reunion with Chris Candido and the establishment of the New Generation. He gave "Beetlejuice" Art Bar quite the run for his money, and it was all Barr could do to keep ahead of them. Then, of course, as surely as night follows day, the mysterious masked man snuck into the ring while the ref was distracted and hit Candido with an inverted DDT. Barr was certainly not one to give up a free pass, and went up top to hit the Frog Splash for the win. Cactus Jack immediately stormed out to the ring from the back, followed by the Soultaker and Big Juice. He demanded the ringside microphone. Cactus : Alright, freak, you listen up and listen good. I am sick of you sticking your nose in the business of the Wild Things. I don't know who you are, but you are going to tell me what the hell you think you are doing. Masked Man : Oh, Mister Jack, you know me more than you know. I am the Jackal and I am the salvation of the Wild Things. Let me in, and I will show you all just how Wild the Wild Things can get! Cactus : Are you kidding me? If you think you can mess with our matches and just waltz into our ranks, you've got to be out of your mind! Barr : Cactus, we're the Wild Things … "out of your mind" is what we are all about. Besides, I like the cut of his jib. I say we give him a shot. (Soultaker and Big Juice both nod in agreement) Cactus : Well, it looks like I am outvoted. I guess you are in. But I am warning you, give me one reason to suspect you, and you will wish you have never crossed my path. Interview : Don Coss stands in the ring Coss : Ladies and gentlemen, my next guest shocked the fans when he turned on them and the Southern Boys … Billy Jack Haynes! The crowd boos as Haynes, accompanied by Gary Albright and David Young, stalks out to the ring. He pays them no mind apart from a deep set scowl that never leaves his face. Coss : Well, Billy Jack, the fans certainly seem disappointed with your recent change of attitude. Billy Jack : The fans ? THE FANS? The fans have never done squat for me! (increased booing) I did what the fans wanted, and it got me nowhere. Sunshine, the Southern Boys, none of them helped me one bit! I play nice with them, and they just stood by and watched when I got screwed out of the Pacific Heavyweight Title! Well, now I'm doing things my way. I have two men with me that I can trust! (Albright and Young nod in agreement) I have their back, and they have mine, and we don't give a damn about anyone else or what they think. We are the Oregon Wrecking Crew and we are going to take over the West Coast. All the big titles are in our sights. Windham, Rhodes, Pillman, Severn, Midnights, Destruction Crew … none of you are safe. Pacific Coast Wrestling will be ours! Johnny Ace vs. John Raymond "The Illustrious One" was his usual self satisfied self as he headed out to the ring, and proved he was justified in his satisfaction as he completely dominated Raymond, easily dispatching him with the Ace Dropper. The drama came after the match when Buddy Rose, followed by Scotty The Body, Mike Awesome and Tina Ferrari, came out and approached Ace. Buddy : Johnny, good sir .. Mister Ace! I've had my eye on you! I think you have what it takes to be a part of the new look Playboy Club. Too many times I've cluttered up the ranks with dumb muscle. The Beach Bums, the Biker Twins … big guys but not much going on upstairs. What I need is smart muscle. Scotty, Big Mike, they know what to do, even though sometimes one of them may lose a bit of focus. (Embarrassed look from Scotty) But they're good guys, like you. Sign on with us and you can write your own ticket, straight to the top. What do you say? Ace : Mr. Rose, you are on! The Rainbow Warriors (Vic Steamboat & Brian Adams) vs. Fit Finlay & Erin O'Grady In their first run in PCW, the Rainbow Warriors developed a following as a team with a lot of potential. Now that both members are back on the west coast and reunited, they seem keep on fulfilling that potential and earning a shot at one of the tag titles. Tonight, the would face the Belfast Bruiser and his young apprentice, "The Leprechaun" Erin O'Grady. The duo was as pugnacious as one could expect, and Steamboat and Adams had to fight hard for every advantage they could get. Ultimately, their familiarity and established teamwork would prove to be the difference, and they were able to hit the Refraction (vertical suplex by Adams setting up a flying cross body press by Steamboat) and score the victory. I am thinking that Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express may well be starting to regret casting Steamboat out from their ranks. Billy Gunn vs. Chris Adams Billy Gunn hasn't been in Pacific Coast Wrestling for long, but has quickly gained a reputation as a young wrestler on the rise. Not only have the fans rallied behind the lanky Texan, but the Brigade have immediately accepted him into their ranks. Chris Adams and Diamond Dallas Page didn't seem to be particularly impressed at first, but soon found out that he was not someone to underestimate. The amiable Cowboy was all over Adams from the get go, and Adams found himself scrambling to find some sort of advantage. The Diamond Exchange wound up going for subterfuge, with DDP catching Adams when he was whipped into the corner then pulling him out of the way when Gunn followed up with a clothesline. Gunn wound up going hard chest first into the corner turnbuckle, which left him easy prey for the Superkick to give the win for Adams. A tough loss for Gunn but he can still feel proud of the showing he gave.

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Kelowna Memorial Arena, Kelowna, January 7th Billy Gunn vs. Cactus Jack The masked man once again made his presence felt , tripping Gunn while coming off the ropes to set him up for a Double Armed DDT to give the match to Cactus. The man from Truth Or Consequences glared at the masked man for his unasked for interference, but the mystery man simply laughed and applauded Cactus' "victory". Chris Candido vs. Curt Hennig Mr. Perfect seemed quite surprised at how much of a fight he got from Candido, and it took quite a lot to hit the Perfect Plex for the win. Alex Porteau vs. Chris Adams In spite of his usually ruthless tactics, Adams had a fairly taut technical match with the Pug, which went back and forth before Adams took him out with the Superkick. Brian Lee vs. Fit Finlay This was a knock down , drag out fight, and Lee really proved himself by withstanding the hurricane of the Fighting Irishman's offence and hitting the Prime Time Slam for the win. Golden State Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. The Force Of July (The Patriot & The Eagle) The masked men pushed the champions to the limit, forcing them to get dirty. Lane brought the tennis racquet into the ring against the Eagle, leading to a DQ and giving the FOJ the win if not the titles. Pacific Television Title Match : Brian Pillman © vs. Doug Furnas Flyin' Brian closed out the evening by withstanding a considerable challenge from the tough Oklahoman, pinning Furnas with a top rope Sunset Flip

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN , January 6th Eddie Guerrero vs. The Soultaker Guerrero tried to play a game of cat and mouse with the Soultaker, and did as well as he could, dodging most of the big man's attacks. That came crashing down when, at a point where Soultaker and the ref were distracted, the mysterious masked man ambushed him in the ring with an elbow smash to the back of the head followed by an inverted DDT. Soultaker saw Guerrero knocked out in the ring and hit the Exorcism (Spine Snapper backbreaker) for the win. Cactus Jack, who was accompanying the new member of the Wild Things, was livid at the masked man's interference but Soultaker was willing to take the win. Louie Spicolli vs. Johnny Ace Spicolli put in a game effort against the Illustrious One and definitely held his own, but ultimately went down to the Ace Dropper. Jerry Lynn vs. Erin O'Grady The Leprechaun really took the fight to Lynn and the founder of the New Generation had his hands full with O'Grady, taking everything he had to put O'Grady down with a Package Piledriver. Al Snow vs. Steven Regal With the departure of both Bob Backlund and Robbie Brookside and the dissolution of the Knights Templar, Regal is now out on his own and set on making a name for himself. He showed what he was capable off in his match with the Stormfront member, defeating Snow in a tough match with the Regal Plex. Rick Steamboat vs. Masahiro Chono The Dragon and the Blood Syndicate member had an incredibly intense match that went to Steamboat when he blocked an attempt at the STF and wrapped him up in an inside cradle for the pinfall. Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Barry Windham © vs. Brian Adams It was a battle of two of the most talented big men on the West Coast for the top prize in PCW. "The Crusher" gave the Widowmaker a considerable challenge and, even though Windham was able to hit the Western Lariat on Adams, the champ was taking no chances, putting Adams up top and executing the Superplex to make sure the man from Hawaii stayed down.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Victoria Memorial Arena, Victoria, on ESPN / TSN, January 5th Steve Austin vs. Silas Gaither At the New Years Special, Bret Hart introduced to the world his young protégé "Stunning" Steve Austin, but this would be the first chance for the world to see what he could do in the ring. The young Texan showed a confidence that belied his relative inexperience, smoothly dominating Gaither before administering the Coup De Grace with the Stun Gun. Bret Hart was watching from ringside with a proud papa look, and after the match, put his arm around Austin as he led him from the ring. Time will tell, but it looks like the sky is the limit for "Stunning" Steve. Steve Blackman vs. Phil Lafon "The Lethal Weapon" Steve Blackman made a very welcome return when he came to the rescue of his friend from the Citadel, Maxx Payne. The fans were very glad to see the Ancaster, PA native make his comeback and he has gotten right back into the thick of things, taking on one half of the highly touted Can-Am Express. Lafon has his own considerable history on the West Coast, and this was an exciting technical showdown. Lafon ended up trying to take Blackman out with a reverse flying body press, only for Blackman to dodge it. When Lafon was able to get back to his feet, Blackman hit him with a roundhouse kick to the head that knocked him out and got the win. No doubt about it, Steve Blackman is back and on track. The Oregon Wrecking Crew (Gary Albright & David Young) vs. Clarence Black & Peter Harkey The Oregon connection to the Oregon Wrecking Crew was made shockingly clear at the New Years Day Special when Oregon native Billy Jack Haynes turned on his former friends the Southern Boys to hand a big victory to Albright and Young. Haynes was at ringside as his new allies ran roughshod over Black and Harkey. The Wrecking Crew demolished their opponents with crushing throws and slams before Young planted Harkey with a Spinebuster Slam to put it all to rest. It certainly hasn't taken long for the Oregon Wrecking Crew to earn a reputation as a force to be reckoned with. The Dreamboats (Tommy Dreamer & Glamour Boy Shane) vs. Buddy Rose & Scotty The Body The Dreamboats are another team looking to establish themselves in PCW and they got off to a fast start on New Years Day. Tonight, they would be facing the determined and focused Playboy Club, although the looks that Scotty was giving the Dreamboats' manager Trisa Hayes hinted that his focus was perhaps slipping. Tina Ferrari in turn was giving Trisa looks of pure venom, but Trisa kept her attention locked on supporting her men in the ring. Rose and Scotty never let up on Dreamer and Shane, but the young team kept bouncing back, not about to knuckle under to the more experienced Club. Scotty's frequent showboating in a misguided attempt to impress Trisa wound up costing him dearly. While giving a double bicep flex and a wink in the direction of the unimpressed manager, he failed to notice Tommy Dreamer coming up behind him and catching him in a schoolboy rollup. He was just able to hold Scotty's shoulders for the mat for the three count, earning a huge victory for the young team. Rose and Tina were furious and could both be seen swatting Scotty in the back of the head as they lambasted him all the way back to the locker room. I don't think they will be letting him be distracted like this in the future. Erin O'Grady vs. Gabriel Cade "The Leprechaun" may have been on the losing end of a tag match on New Years Day, but that didn't seem to have diminished his mentor Fit Finlay's faith in him one iota. The Belfast Bruiser was in the corner of his young pupil and giving him encouragement throughout. Bolstered by his mentor's faith in him, O'Grady was all over his opponent, pinning Cade following the Pot O' Gold (springboard bulldog). It certainly has to be a real shot in the arm for O'Grady to have Finlay in his corner. Interview : Don Coss stands in the ring Coss : Ladies and gentleman, my next guest is a rising star on the Pacific Coast … Jerry Lynn! Although Jerry Lynn is the only one announced, his is accompanied by Chris Candido, Louie Spicolli, Dragon Azul and Silver King. The crowd warmly greets the young wrestlers as they head to the ring. Coss : Well, Jerry Lynn, I guess it can't say it is too big a surprise to see who is joining you tonight, given what happened at the New Years Day Special. Does this mean that you are now the leader of a new group of wrestlers? Lynn : Yes and no, Don. We will be working together, but I am not the leader. The guys just agreed that I will be the spokesman. (The other wrestlers nod in agreement) Most of us here are used to being in groups. We used to be taking the lead from more experienced wrestlers. That was important for us at the time. We learned a lot from the wrestlers like Leo Burke, Dan Severn and Bob Backlund. But time passes and things change. With all respect to those worthy gentlemen, there comes a time when a man needs to step out on his own and make his own decisions. We've all talked together and have agreed to work together and support each other. Help each other become the best wrestlers we can possibly be and get the title shots we deserve. Coss : So I take it you and your men will be aiming at the Pacific Light Heavyweight Title? Candido : Not just the light heavyweight title, Don. I've held that title before, and while it was a great honour to hold it, we're not just going to limit our horizons to that title alone. Louie and I had a pretty good tag team going for a little while in early 1988, and we could see ourselves getting a shot at either of the tag team titles. In fact, there isn't a title on the Pacific Coast that we aren't up for making a challenge. Coss : Even the Pacific Heavyweight Title? Spicolli : (laughing) Hey, why not? Even big Barry Windham had best be prepared for a challenge from the New Generation! Tracy Smothers vs. Billy Jack Haynes As mentioned earlier, Billy Jack shocked and disappointed the fans when he turned on his old friends the Southern Boys and joined up with the Oregon Wrecking Crew. In doing so, he temporarily put Steve Armstrong on the shelf, so Tracy Smothers was out to avenge his partner. Smothers is one tough customer, but an enraged Billy Jack Haynes proved to be just too much to overcome. As the Oregon Wrecking Crew watched from ringside, Haynes hit the Shoulder Breaker, then locked Smothers in the Full Nelson to force him to tap out. Haynes refused to release the hold after the match, and it took Shinya Hashimoto, Kensuke Sasaki and Toshiaki Kawada rushing out to the ring to get him to let Smothers go and leave the ring. Clearly, the new Oregon Wrecking Crew are not just a group to contend with, but full on dangerous. Bret Hart vs. Dean Malenko The evening closed out with a matchup between two great second generations. Bret and Dean are both the sons of legendary wrestlers but have worked hard to become standout contenders in their own right and had a gripping technical match. Both men had each other well scouted, so while they did work hard to cinch in the Sharpshooter or the Texas Cloverleaf, they were too canny to fall for the other's traps. It was the proverbial game of human chess, but it was Bret who was able to achieve checkmate with a belly to back suplex on Dean out of the corner. Bret offered a handshake of respect after the match, which Dean begrudgingly accepted.

Pacific Coast Wrestling New Years Day Special 1989 from the Northlands Colisseum, Edmonton, January 1st The Dreamboats (Tommy Dreamer & Glamour Boy Shane) vs. BB Andersen & Dirk Been Pacific Coast Wrestling had an action packed 1988 and has come back to kick off 1989 in style. The first match up of their big New Years Day Special would feature the debut of a brand new tag team looking to make their mark on the West Coast. Coming out to the sound of "Peg" by Steely Dan, Dreamer and Shane were two handsome and well built men, both wearing suspenders and tights, and had ready smiles while they shook hands with the fans as they made their way to the ring. Their manager, Trisa Hayes, had more of a cool confidence as she accompanied them, but her considerable beauty certainly drew a lot of looks. Once the match started, the Dreamboats proved her confidence in them was well founded, easily dominating their opposition before Shane polished off Anderson with the Glamour Profession (top rope flying elbow smash). They may face an uphill climb in the always competitive PCW Tag Team Division, but the Dreamboats are certainly off to a good start. Chris Candido vs. Louie Spicolli vs. Dragon Azul vs. Silver King 1988 saw a host of younger wrestlers start to come into their own, and this match would feature several of them square off in a Four Way Elimination Match. Curiously, Jerry Lynn showed up for this match, standing at the back of the arena and carefully observing the goings on. Although Candido is the youngest wrestler in the match, he has the most experience in PCW, having won the Light Heavyweight Title for a notable reign. He closed off 1989 having renewed his friendship with his former partner Spicolli, but that didn't stop them from going all out against each other. Louie Spicolli had developed something of a fan following as a beloved underground, and his victory over Bob Backlund established himself as someone to watch. After an enthusiastic battle, he attempted to get Candido up for a Samoan Drop, only for Candido to breakout with a slide down and a rollup that just barely held his shoulders down for the three count. In spite of being eliminated from the match, Spicolli shook Candido's hand good naturedly before leaving the ring. As he departed, Jerry Lynn beckoned him over, having a brief word in his ear before the two watched the rest of the match together. The three remaining competitors stepped up the pace, having a breathtaking dual before Candido was taken out by Dragon with a takeover suplex. Another handshake and Candido joined Lynn and Spicolli at the back of the arena. The match now came down to Dragon Azul and Silver King. The two wrestlers were very familiar with each other, with both men having scored victories over the other in several well regarded matches in 1989. The two men got down to brass tacks and the anticipation rose in the fans as to who would come out on top. It seemed like it might be Dragon who would prevail when he attempted a DDT, but Silver King powered out with a backdrop. He then followed up with the Silver Crash (rolling Fireman's Carry Slam), and that was enough to make Silver King the ultimate winner. After the match, Lynn, Spicolli and Candido joined the other two in the ring, and after a quick discussion, all five men left the ring together. Whatever is going on, something tells me this will turn out to be big for Pacific Coast Wrestling. Mike Awesome vs. Joel Klug The next debut was an imposing man going by the name of Mike Awesome. If his height and powerful physique were not intimidating enough, he was accompanied by Buddy Rose, Scotty The Body, Mark Starr and Tina Ferrari, indicating that Mr. Awesome was the newest recruit to the Playboy Club. It turns out, Awesome didn't need the backup, immediately taking Klug off his feet with a running kick before following up with a running knee drop. He then proceeded to dismantle Klug with a series of power moves before full on knocking him out with a huge Power Bomb. Awesome didn't even bother to cover him, simply putting a foot on Klug's chest and giving a double flex pose while the ref made the three count. It didn't take long for Mike Awesome to prove that his name was no exaggeration. The Southern Boys vs. The Oregon Wrecking Crew (Gary Albright & David Young) This match would be the first appearance for the new team of the Oregon Wrecking Crew. Albright was by now a familiar face to the PCW fans, but Young was a newcomer, a ruggedly build man with close cropped hair and a beard. With Albright and Young hailing from Montana and Georgia, respectively, their team name was a bit of an oddity, but they certainly were setting the bar high for their first match, taking on the former Pacific Tag Team champs. Albright and Young were certainly tough customers, landing some jarring slams and suplexes on the Southern Boys. Smothers and Armstrong were taken aback by this show of aggression from the new team, but rallied with their own double team moves and got themselves back in the game. The match took a turn when a commotion arose at ringside. It was Billy Jack Haynes , who had not been seen since coming up short in his Pacific Heavyweight Title match at San Diego Battleground. Before that, he had several altercations with Gary Albright, and he proceeded to stare down Albright. This proved a sufficient distraction for Smothers to sneak into the ring and roll up Albright for a two count. Albright was able to kick out and the ref escorted Smothers out of the ring. While the ref was thus distracted, Billy Jack entered the ring … and levelled Armstrong with a huge clothesline! He dove out of the ring while Albright grabbed Armstrong and whipped him into Young, who planted him with a crushing Spinebuster Slam. Albright knocked Smothers off the ring apron with a running elbow smash while the ref made the count, giving the first victory to the Wrecking Crew. It seemed they had not had enough fun, as Billy Jack returned to the ring and locked the helpless Armstong in a Full Nelson, only releasing it under orders from the ref. The crowd was agog at this shocking betrayal, but Billy Jack paid the fans no mind as he led Albright and Young from the ring. Johnny Ace vs. Kel Gleason The debuts continued with "The Illustrious" Johnny Ace, a tall blonde haired wrestler who came out in a tropical shirt and colourful trunks. He seemed well pleased with himself to the point of smug, and the fans took an instant dislike to the confident man. To his credit, he certainly had the athletic skill to back up his braggadocio . He dominated young Gleason, tossing him from pillar to post before putting him down for good with the Ace Dropper. A convincing win, but Ace will need to do a lot to make a dent in the always competitive PCW rankings. Interview : Don Coss stands in the ring Coss : Ladies and gentlemen, my next guest is one of the top contenders in Pacific Coast Wrestling … Bret "The Hitman" Hart! The crowd cheers the much beloved star as he makes his entrance. "The Hitman" is looking serious even for him as he heads out to the ring. Coss : Bret, I can imagine that you came out of 1988 with mixed feelings. You got a big victory over Bam Bam Bigelow at San Diego Battleground, but you lost two of your closest allies in Jim Neidhart and your brother Owen. Hart : You're not wrong, Don. While it was great to finally get that win over Bigelow, it hurt like hell to lose Jim and Owen. Don't get me wrong, they will both be just fine and be stars in their new promotions. But it isn't going to be easy to face the Diamond Exchange without my family by my side. Speaking of family, I want to talk about something else for a bit. As you know, my dad, Stu Hart, is not just a legendary wrestler, he is also one of the greatest trainers in all of wrestling. Last year, he got a visit from a young man from Texas. This man wanted to become a wrestler and wanted to learn from the best. Unfortunately, my dad has just closed down Stampede wrestling. But he saw something in this guy, so he agreed to train him the best he could. You know my dad. He put this kid through hell, gave him the most strenuous and intense training in all of wrestling. Most young prospects who have headed for the hills at this point. But this kid just kept coming back for more. He wasn't going to be held back from making his dream come true. My dad did everything he could, but there comes a point when you've got to leave the Dungeon and start wrestling day in and day out in a regular promotion. Like I said, Stampede had closed down, so dad called me and asked me for a favor. He said this kid was something special, and asked if I could find him a spot in PCW, keep an eye out for him. I'd do anything for my father, and am always glad to help out a young wrestler who is willing to work hard, so I agreed. I want to introduce a young star in the making who I think has what it takes to go all the way in wrestling …. "Stunning" Steve Austin! The crowd warmly greets young Austin as he heads out to join Bret in the ring. Austin is a good looking man with long blond hair and a muscular physique, and he is all smiles as he greets his new mentor. Coss : Well, Mr. Austin, an introduction like that must feel hard to live up to. Austin : Gosh, Mr. Coss, you can call me Steve. Bret is being too kind with his words, I am just another wrestler trying to make the most of his chance. Bret has been incredibly generous with his time and attention, and I am going to make sure he doesn't regret it. And he doesn't have to worry anymore about the Diamond Exchange! With me by his side, they are going to regret that they messed with the Hitman! Bret : Whoah! Hold it there, Steve, I'm not bringing you here to fight my wars. I'll figure out a way to take care of the Diamond Exchange, you aren't ready for them … not yet. You have incredible potential, but you are still learning to walk before you can run. You'll get there soon enough. Just promise you will focus on that and becoming the best wrestler you can, and the world won't be able to deny you. Austin : I promise I won't let you down, Bret. I will make you proud! The Soultaker vs. Mitchell Olson The next new face to PCW was one of the scariest to appear tonight. The towering Soultaker was a huge man with a powerful build and mohawk haircut, along with several tattoos on his chest and arms. If that wasn't intimidating enough, he was accompanied at ringside by Cactus Jack and Art Barr, showing that he was the latest recruit to the Wild Ones. Once the bell rang, the newcomer quickly displayed that he terrifying look wasn't all show. He tore into Olson like a stewed chicken, using his considerable power to batter him before polishing him off with the Exorcism (Spine Snapper back breaker). Things took an even stranger turn after the match. As Cactus and Barr were congratulating their new crony in the ring, the lights in the arena went out. When they came back on, a spotlight was shining at the back of the arena on the mysterious masked man who had been ambushing the opponents of the Wild Things. He was laughing madly and waving to them. Soultaker looked annoyed, Cactus concerned, but Barr soon started laughing along with him. Hmmmmm ….. Toshiaki Kawada & Kensuke Sasaki vs. Fit Finlay & Erin O'Grady The next match featured two teams combining both old and new. Kawada's Footloose partner Ricky Fuyuki had returned to Japan, but he had found a new partner in Kensuke Sasaki, another promising young Japanese star. Meanwhile, Finlay was doing something rather unexpected with his partner. The Belfast Bruiser has hardly seemed like the most nurturing of individuals, but has taken a young pupil under his wing in the form of "The Leprechaun" Erin O'Grady. The diminutive grappler seemed eerily familiar to the PCW fans, showing a fair amount of his mentor's pugnacious attitude, but with a fast paced style all his own. He was always willing to throw down with the Japanese team, which wound up costing him when he was taken down by Sasaki with a single armed throw. Sasaki immediately trapped him in the Stranglehold Gamma, and while O'Grady held out as long as he could, it was only a matter of time before he tapped out. Despite the loss, Finlay helped his young pupil to his feet and was very encouraging as they returned to the back together. It seems like Finlay does have a bit of a soft spot for someone. Who knew? The Juice Crew (Art Barr & Big Juice) vs. Jeff Varner & Carl Bilancione "Beetlejuice" Art Barr made his second appearance of the evening, this time as part of a new tag team. He had an incredible reign as Golden State Tag Team champ in 1988 with Eddie Guerrero, but has wasted no time in finding a new partner with the appropriately named Big Juice. Juice was an imposing, muscular man who loomed over both the opposition and his partner. Cactus Jack and Soultaker joined their comrades at ringside and were constantly looking out for the mysterious masked man, but the Juice Crew simply got on with the business of destroying Varner and Billancione. The pair simply annihilated the rookies, easily pinning Varner after the Juice Loosener (Bearhug by Big Juice into a slingshot lariat by Beetlejuice) and just like that, there was a new team making an impact on the West Coast. Billy Gunn vs. Bob Johnson The final debut of the evening came in the charismatic form of a long , lanky Texan in a Stetson, duster coat and cowboy boots. With a drop handlebar mustache and a winning smile, Gunn easily caught admiring glances from the ladies in the audience. That said, he quickly proved his worth to everyone in the audience, showing considerable athletic ability as he easily dominated Johnson. Johnson didn't stand a chance as Gunn sent him flying all over the ring before dispatching him with the Gunnslinger (swinging side slam). Once the match ended, Gunn was joined in the ring by Scott Hall, Dustin Rhodes and Brian Lee. After a brief discussion, Gunn's smile got even wider as he left the ring with them. It didn't take long for Gunn to earn himself a spot in the Brigade. Maxx Payne vs. Genichiro Tenryu Genichiro Tenryu arrived in PCW last year and since then, the Blood Syndicate leader has cut his way through the roster like a cleaver. Competitor after competitor has taken on Tenryu, only to end up destroyed by the Japanese star. He had his young pupil, Masahiro Chono, at ringside to observe what he was certain to be his next easy victory. His opponent tonight, Maxx Payne, didn't seem unnerved by this. After having been unceremoniously abandoned by the Neighborhood Of Evil early last year, he has found a new home in the Citadel and has worked hard to earn a reputation as a tough and determined contender. He certainly seemed to give Tenryu more of a battle than he expected. Payne was able to dodge the Enzuiriri a couple of times, resist attempts to hit the Power Bomb, and fought like a tiger to escape several submission attempts. He was even able to hit some jarring suplexes of his own, coming close to cinching in the Payne Killer. He really got the fans behind him, but got in too close and Tenryu was able to hit a massive Belly To Belly suplex. Tenryu followed up with a gutwrench suplex before a backdrop suplex that dropped Payne on his head to finish him off. Even after the pinfall, Tenryu was not done, demanding Chono put Payne in the STF to make an example of him. Payne glared balefully at Tenryu and said nothing, but it was clear he was in excruciating pain. It was then that someone charged in and dropkicked Tenryu out of the ring. He then hit a spin kick to Chono's head, forcing him to release the hold. It was Steve Blackman! The Lethal Weapon had not been seen on the Pacific Coast since early last year, but had come back to help out his old Citadel comrade. Tenryu pulled Chono out of the ring and the two headed to the back, no doubt planning some retaliation further down the line. Blackman helped Payne to his feet and assisted his friend back to the locker room. Payne may have gotten back his friend tonight, but the two are going to have to keep an eye out for two powerful enemies. Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Destruction Crew © vs. Stormfront (Al Snow & Alex Porteau) The Destruction Crew had an up and down year in 1988, but it ended in triumph for them. The rookie team found new direction under the guidance of Diamond Dallas Page and ended the year as Pacific Tag Team Champions. Their first challengers of 1989 would be a team that worked hard to get their shot. After a low key start, Stormfront have made considerable progress over the past year to establish themselves as a team on the rise. The Crew didn't seem to be taking Snow and Porteau particularly seriously, but soon learned how big a mistake that was. Bloom, a former standout Greco-Roman wrestler, actually had an exciting technical duel with Porteau, but "The Pug" was eventually able to come out on top with some hard hitting suplexes. DDP tried to tip the balance by sliding the sledgehammer into the ring, but Snow immediately stopped it with the heel of his boot. Instead of picking it up and trying to use it against the Crew, as other teams usually did, Snow simply used the side of his foot to just slide the hammer out the other side of the ring. The Crew seemed unable to figure out what to do with Stormfront, as none of their usual tactics seemed to work against the pugnacious challengers. The two teams were still duking it out when the bell rang, signalling a 15 minute time limit draw, but there can be no doubt that Stormfront have earned another shot at the belts somewhere down the line. Bret Hart vs. Steven Regal The crowd buzz reached a fever pitch with this, the first match of the double main event of the evening. The Canadian fans were certainly psyched to see the Hitman, who was coming off a tumultuous 1988. No longer backed by his partner Jim Neidhart or his brother Owen, Bret had his new pupil Steve Austin in his corner to observe the match. Regal himself was going it alone, after successful runs in British Steel and the Knights Templar. Whether as a tag wrestler or singles, Regal has a well earned reputation for being hard as ten bears, and he and the Hitman had a match that mixed technical brilliance and bruising blows. Partway through the match, there was the unwelcome appearance of DDP, Chris Adams and Bam Bam Bigelow, who took an immediate interest in young Steve Austin. The trio proceeded to mock and taunt Austin until they goaded him into taking a swing at them, then laughed as PCW security swarmed in between them. Bret Hart came out and calmed down Austin, and the Diamond Exchange left without further incident. After that distraction, Bret and Regal got back down to business. Regal was able to fight his way out of attempts to get him in the Sharpshooter, but Bret was able to catch him in a rollup out of the corner and keep his shoulders to the mat for the One Two Three. A big victory for the Hitman, but it looks like he is going to have his hands full, not just with the Diamond Exchange but with keeping his young ward out of trouble. Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Barry Windham © vs. Scott Hall A long and exciting evening of wrestling comes to a close with a Heavyweight Title match. Barry Windham's second title reign saw him face a host of tough contenders, but the tall Texan saw the end of the year with the title belt still wrapped around his waist. He was definitely not taking it easy to start off the new year, defending it against his former Brigade colleague , big Scott Hall. Hall had an epic year after his return to the West coast, having a brutal feud that culminated with him defeating the seemingly undefeatable Undertaker at San Diego Battleground. The stage was set for a clash of titans, and they certainly delivered. The two big heavyweights went at it in a way that caused the ring to shake and shudder. Hall was able to keep Windham from getting him up on the top turnbuckle for the Superplex, but was still unable to hit the Gator Breaker (Fallaway slam) on the champ. He was going for a big clothesline to take Windham down, but Windham ducked and caught Hall on the rebound with a huge dropkick. He then went up top and levelled Hall with a Flying Lariat and that was that. 1989 starts of with the same question as 1988 finished : just who can stop the Widowmaker?

Been noticing a bit of confusion among multiple promoters going both ways. This thread is for declaring people on your roster available for trade. The roster thread is for changes in roster, such as trades , cutting people from your roster or picking up people from free agency.
-
Amazing show! Was obvs focused on Backlund vs. Takada but there were great matchups up and down the card, especially Maeda vs. Han. Both Backlund and Han are definitely in line for rematches.

Although the PCW roster are enjoying their December break in Hawaii, considerable buzz has arisen over a young prospect fresh out of Stu Hart's legendary Dungeon who is heading to the West Coast. While this unnamed wrestler is under contract to another promotion, Don Owen has reached a special developmental arrangement with this promotion with regards to the new wrestler getting his first experience in the fast paced learning environment of Pacific Coast Wrestling. Not much is known of this young man, but Bret Hart is said to be especially enthusiastic on working with this student of his father. Looks like big things are headed to PCW in 1989!

The scene is set in an Irish Pub. "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" by the Pogues plays on the jukebox, but there is little other sound. Nearly every table in the place is broken, and the floor is littered with the battered, unconscious bodies of burly men. The one person standing is a small but pugnacious man, breathing heavily and glaring. The camera shifts to show the one other conscious person present. Sitting at the bar is Fit Finlay with a glass of Guinness, giving a proud smile to the other man. He raises his glass in a salute to the other man. The text comes up. In 1989, PCW will experience a strange magic thanks to ... the Leprechaun!
-
The scene is set on a ranch. From the distance, a dust cloud approaches. It turns out to be a rider on horseback, who pulls up to the camera. It is a handsome young cowboy in full cowboy gear, including a duster coat and white stetson. He grins, tips his stetson and winks to the camera. The text comes up on the screen. Riding the dusty trail in 1989, all the way to PCW, comes .... Billy Gunn!
-
Bull Pain/Payne and Rick Gantner are both listed on the Free Agent list. They are both the same person.

The scene is set in a graveyard late at night. The camera work is jittery and agitated as it tries to track two men in face paint, snickering and scampering among the gravestones . One is the familiar figure of "Beetlejuice" Art Barr, the other a tall muscular man in a sleeveless shirt that shows off his impressive physique. The two men stop when they run into a huge imposing man with a Mohawk and several tattoos. The facepainted men stare at the newcomer wide eyed, then all three start laughing. The laughter is high pitched from the men in paint, deep and booming from the man with the Mohawk. The text comes up on the screen. PCW is going to get a whole lot weirder in 1989 , with .... the Soultaker and the Juice Crew!

PCW drops Mark Starr and picks up JW Storm.
