  1. I think we have rules about these things just to keep some sort of consistency. For me it seemed to come up with the debate about death. It seemed that there were 3 paths suggested at the beginning of the game : 1) nobody dies (David Von Erich as world champion in 1987 ... creepy) , 2) deaths by some sort of random selection (sorry, buddy, Ric Flair just died ... also creepy) , or 3) death happens as it did in the real world (by sheer coincidence, David Von Erich is not locked into a big match at the time he dies ... weird, but workable). In the end, the decision was made : dead is dead and retired is retired. If it helps, think of it on the Final Destination principal : the wrestler might escape this particular death or retirement or catastrophe in this timeline, but ultimately, it will find them As far as pushes and angles, it seems to be a matter of particular taste. Part of the fun of it, for me, is using as the unvarnished, raw talent they are in some cases. I certainly know I have been one guilty of giving people gimmicks or pushes ahead of their real life status, but I try to keep it clear they are doing it as rookies, and pair them with more experienced hands for guidance. That is one of the reasons I have been shy about having a singles match with Scott Hall and Dan Spivey, even though the angle seems to be heading that way. In 1985, that would have been a pretty rough match.
  2. WWC is now on the clock.
  3. With the 4th overall pick , the AWA takes Leon "Vader" White. With the 5th overall pic, the AWA takes Brian Pillman.
  4. The AWA sends Tony Atlas and Scott Hall to the USWA for the 1st round draft pick (5th pick overall).
  5. AWA has the British Bulldogs on the block. Willing to offer for upper round draft picks as well as existing stars.
  6. If one is going for a rookie, Steiner is an excellent pick. I think he definitely showed strong promise early on in his career, and is an excellent character to work with.
  7. Setting up a separate thread so we can discuss and post reactions on the draft, keeping the draft thread exclusively for picks. So .... let's get the show on the road, shall we?
  8. It's a pretty big draft, I'd be fine with it going additional rounds if anyone wants to.
  9. All sounds good, have a specific kick off time in mind? Edit : didn't spot the recent posts, I am certainly good with Sunday.
  10. One thing to remember is this : part of the appeal of draft picks is that , if a wrestler has gotten stale for a booker of they have used up all of the storyline ideas they have for them, it's a chance to add some fresh blood and have more opportunites for new stories. If a booker is just starting out, they haven't used up any of their storylines yet and so draft picks might not appeal to them as much as an established name. Just my 2 cents, feel free to ignore. I am very much hoping that kevin will stay.
  11. Chris Youngblood is also going into this draft.
  12. Two huge trades involving the AWA. The AWA sends Lex Luger and Brad Armstrong to the UWF for Dusty Rhodes and John Nord. The AWA sends Curt Hennig, Don Muraco and King Kong Bundy to the WWF for Jake Roberts, Chris Adams and Hercules.
  13. There will be some announcements tomorrow that will show why I wanted to get up to date by the end of the month.
  14. I apologize for the lack of detail, I was running way behind and wanted to get caught up before things kick into high gear for December and January.

Atlas’ opponent was supposed to be Greg Gagne, but after Mike Shaw’s vicious attack on Gagne left him too injured to participate. Speculation who would take his place was answered when …. Ricky Steamboat came to the ring!!! Steamboat hadn’t been seen since his former friend Paul Orndorff had given him a series of piledrivers some time ago, but now he was back and went right after Atlas. The match raged back and forth and Atlas thought he had put down the challenge when he clotheslined Steamboat out of the ring, but Steamboat caught himself on the top rope, then swiftly ascended to the top turnbuckle to come off and pin Atlas with a cross body press. The crowd exploded at the victory of their beloved favorite. AWA American Title Loser-Leaves-Town Cage Match : Lex Luger © vs. Nick Bockwinkel Luger was attempting the Human Torture Rack on Bockwinkel but Nick blocked it and countered with a roll up. 17. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for November 29th The big news going into this show was the announcement that the upcoming cage matches between Paul Orndorff and Curt Hennig, as well as Lex Luger and Nick Bockwinkel, would be Loser Leaves Town stipulations Dan Spivey vs. Pvt. Mick Foley Bizarre. Foley came out looking, if anything, more down at the heels than the week before, with ragged fatigues and long hair that wouldn’t pass military muster. Spivey came out and did his usual showboating routine, even throwing his t-shirt right at Foley, but Foley just kept giving him the same, dead-eyed stare. That all changed when the bell rang, as Foley immediately charged at Spivey, bowling him over and raining punches down on the startled Varsity Club member. Spivey tried to fire back, but the crazed Foley was relentless in his attack. The ref tried to interpose himself between the two, but got a headbutt from Foley for his troubles, as did Kevin Sullivan when he tried to come in on Spivey’s behalf. This meant the end of the match, but not the action as the two kept brawling until Cpl. Scott Hall charged out and was ultimately able to calm Foley down. Killer Khan & Jerry Blackwell vs. British Steel The young British Rookies put in a game effort in trying to hold off the two monsters of the Sinister Syndicate, but ultimately it was not enough as Blackwell hit a power slam on Smiley for the win. This was not enough for them, as Killer Khan went up top to go for his dreaded flying kneedrop, but Regal was able to pull Smiley out of the ring in time. Chavo Guerrero vs. Leo Burke These two put on an incredible technical display that went back and forth , and ended when Burke was attempting to hook in the sleeper hold, but Chavo was able to block it and then reverse it into a German Suplex for the win. Both men shook hands after the match. Greg Gagne & The Killer Bees vs. Tony Atlas & The Onyx Express This heated match came to a shocking end when Mike Shaw charged out to the ring and attacked Gagne. While the Onyx Express held off the Bees, Shaw power slammed Gagne before hitting a series of running splashes that crushed him. Gagne ended up being take out of the ring on a stretcher, which puts his upcoming match in Winnipeg with Atlas into question. AWA Canadian Title match : Rick Martel © vs. Don Muraco Muraco tried to use his size and strength to overwhelm the popular Quebecois, but Martel was able to outlast the assault and hit a slingshot cross body press to pin the Hawaiian.

  20. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for November 22nd Rick Steiner vs. Cpl. Scott Hall Once again, an increasingly shaggy haired and unshaven Pvt. Mick Foley showed up at ringside and baffled everyone with his bizarre behaviour. Hall was able to hit a huge side slam on Steiner to get the win Leo Burke vs. Pat Tanaka Although Tanaka is primarily a tag wrestler, he proved he was more than able to hold his own in a singles bout with Burke. After an extremely competitive technical match, Tanaka caught Burke with a leaping forearm smash and score the pinfall. Both men shook hands after the match The Onyx Express vs. British Steel The Express pulled out every dirty trick in the book to keep the advantage over the younger team before finally executing the Spike Brainbuster on Smiley and taking the fall to end the match. Greg Gagne & The Killer Bees vs. Mike Shaw, Buzz Sawyer & Dave Schultz A back and forth match that ended when Shaw had pulled off the turnbuckle and trapped Gagne in the corner, going in for an avalanche, only for Gagne to dodge out of the way and send Shaw chest first into the exposed turnbuckle bolt. Gagne then hit a precision dropkick to score an upset pinfall on the big Shaw.
