If the card ends up that, I can take a nice little nap between 4-6. -

Voices of Wrestling - World Tag League Final review
soup23 replied to W2BTD's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Disappointing since on paper it looked like it could have least been a good show and I had high hopes for the 10 man. Where does this leave us for Wrestle Kingdom? Naito vs. Okada Tanahashi vs. Nakamura Gallows/Anderson vs. KES Yano vs. Suzuki (Have no idea why they went with this) Nagata/sakaruba vs. Gracies What else? -
Here is the big singles for some of the multi mans we have seen so far. Interested to see how Tanaka performs on this big singles stage. The atmosphere for this match was really cool with seeing some headlights from cars and the sightlines in the pitch dark arena. I really liked the work to this and the build up to the first electrified spot and Wing taking it for the first time. Good finish too that was dramatic. Probably my favorite FMW match of 1997 so far not involving females.

Frye just has the best look of a bar room brawler that has legit skill. He works a fabulous match here with his little jabs that he mixes in. The finish sequence also looks devastating and this was super overall. The real gem is after the bell though as Ogawa and Frye standing off feels like a Warrior vs. Hogan moment. Inoki even gets in on the action riling the crowd up and having a little shoving match with Frye. Super super stuff that had me real excited in New Japan overall.

I like the chemistry with these two. Hashimoto does a great job being methodical and smart with the structure of his matches to a certain extent but them not feeling boring. Yamazaki was breaking out all sorts of nasty submissions especially the arm and hand focused one that he was turning Hash's hand over with. the ref bump was kind of weird but Hash was able to lock in the cross armbreaker and get the submission. This match feels like a good litmus test for #100 at the year end. I enjoyed it a good deal.

Still sad those look lost in the DVDVR crash.

Announcing the Network on Jan 4th would be poetic justice from a date standpoint.
-
Candidates off the top of my head: Rey vs. Psychosis BatB 96 Pillman vs. Liger Superbrawl 2 Regal vs. Ultimo Slamboree 97 Ultimo vs. Rey WW3 96 (Never a match I was too crazy about but it has its fans) Honestly maybe Vader vs. Duggan below that That is all I got right now.
-
I can't recall it being put to this much use before. This show overall in a lot of ways represents the first show that felt like the WCW I was first acquainted with as a child.
-
I really think the Steiners vs. Nasty boys rankings at the various sources minus Keller is one of the more perplexing ones we have seen. I'm not usually one to give a modern day hypothetically for a match but I can't fathom that exact match not being praised if it occurred in New Japan right now.
-
Yep, agree with that. I find that match gets better every time I watch it.
-
Congrats on finishing tim. I found your 1989 thoughts interesting as I figured going in that would be a high point of the set but like you said those were problem some of the weakest in your opinion.

Hey Kevin, I would recommend subscribing to this feed: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/ptbn-wr...ork/id715657490 Let us know if a problem persists.

spoiler alert, we like it a lot but correct me if I am wrong but I think I heard you call that one of your favorite matches at one point?

Having watched all but Starrcade 90 now in its entirety, what is the consensus of the best WCW PPV of 1990? I see merits to WrestleWar 90, GAB 90, and Havoc 90.

I don't want Flair to be a humanitarian but there is a big gap between you saying you like Flair as a human, someone living a normal life, and being a humanitarian. If Flair was able to stay loyal to Beth and that would have been it, fine but his track record has been very destructive and sad. This doesn't take into account his financial irresponsibility and fraudlant activity which is somethign I have little respect for given his earnings throughout the years. I also don't understand the argument with his peers in the industry thinking he is the GOAT. So what? That doesn't make him a good human and it seems really bizarre for you to use that as a talking point when you lambast others for doing the same thing. Does Flair respect and love the business? Yes, I would say he does but I think you are overstating the case. I never once said he didn't just that I don't think Flair is someone that is willing to study the history of wrestling. He has his own perception of what wresting is at this point and time and sticks to that unwilling to change. Even in his prime as a performer, he had instances where you could argue he "respected" the business and other times where he didn't. Personal sacrifices will undoubtedly be made with professional success and likewise but there has been a multitude of people that have handled it better than Flair. Flair really gives a low bar to overcome. Hell, for starters I would say his buddy Hulk has manged it better.
-
This makes you like him as a human being that he forsake his family for someone on a message board to call him the GOAT? I don't think Flair all the time had that great of an attitude and in fact was quite salty in regards to his peers and his position in wrestling. I certainly don't see someone like Flair respecting the wrestling business and being a student of the game as much as someone like Bret.
-
This seems odd to say. I would disagree on everything here except the last part.
-
Venue of this is very bizarre and I hate 60 minute matches with only 15 minutes even though I wouldn't really want to sit through 60 minutes of this either. Odd match in the fact that nothign was dreadful about it but a lot felt inconsequential and time marking.
-
Top rope frankensteiner was crazy. Liz looks really good in this segment and we get a great beatdown from the outsiders with trash getting pelted. Giant runs out and wants a go at Nash as we fade to black.
-
Enough of this Flair recruiting shit, this really feels like the end times for Flair and him vs. Syxx could have been a very solid third from the top feud if he would have allowed it.
