[1991-03-30-SWS-Wrestlefest] Hulk Hogan & Genichiro Tenryu vs Legion of Doom
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
Very fun match but I have it a smidge behind the WM 7 main event. I was not too keen on a lot Animal did in the later stages of this match as I think he got blown up. He does a comically bad job of going into Hogan's big boot for instance. I did like the double juice and brawling aspects of this match. Hogan/Tenryu is an awesome team. -
[1991-03-30-SWS-Wrestlefest] Naoki Sano vs Masakatsu Funaki
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
Kind of agree with the people on the lesser side of this because while the struggle for the arm work and mat stuff was pretty well done, my mind did start to wander a lot during this. Finish was best part with Funaki picking up a good victory and having a nice celebration.- 9 replies

[1991-04-12-USWA Texas] Jeff Jarrett vs Tom Pritchard (Tennessee Street Fight)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
I agree that the biggest detriment in this was the referee and overall lack on focus in some areas. Still a good match but given the time they went, I thought they may be able to have one of the top matches of the year and this was simply another good entry into their ongoing series. -
Decent match but definitely too short which was disappointing. We do get the insertion of Sweet Georgia Brown into the main feud.

[1991-03-26-WWF-Primetime Wrestling] Interview: Randy Savage & Miss Elizabeth
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
Not crazy about hearing this with the band going on in the background but this was a fun moment seeing Elizabeth/Randy together and keeping everyone in the loop. The dance was a sweet ending. -
[1991-03-26-WWF-Primetime Wrestling] Koko B. Ware in concert
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
Man Koko has put on the weight. I also hate it when someone asks a wrestler what there name is especially when its a second rate cover band in a vegas lounge. rest of this segment was fun stuff. Vince was getting down. -
[1991-03-26-WWF-Primetime Wrestling] Interview: Ted DiBiase
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
I liked how vince played off the fact that Virgil one instead of focusing on the attack post match. I really like the on location feeling this show has. -
[1991-03-23-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Jumbo Tsuruta vs Cactus Jack
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
Fine match that I think has been overblown and over analyzed on both sides due to Dave throwing out a comment I expect he didn't put much thought in.- 18 replies

[1991-03-24-WWF-Wrestlemania VII] Hulk Hogan vs Sgt. Slaughter
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
I didn't see a thread for it but Hogan's pre match promo was awful. He really harbors a grudge for burning ones of his shirts. I want to comment on how good Regis is on commentary in this match. He comments enough to know he is aware of who these guys are but also stays enough out of the way when he gets into any grey area where he might not look knowledgeable. I especially like him deferring to Gorilla on how Hogan can escape the cobra clutch. It is unfortunate how bad the Adnan interference was, but the rest of the match was very good. I agree with Superstar that Hogan can be great in a brawling, gritty environment and we got a lot of that here which works better than him blowing off Savage's high impact offense. Great main event style match and the pop was pretty huge for the win.- 16 replies

[1991-03-24-WWF-Wrestlemania VII] Interview: Sgt. Slaughter
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
I am pretty much done with this feud by this point. Slaughters logic of getting count out and Dq'd actually was not a bad strategy but wasn't really played up in the match. -
[1991-03-24-WWF-Wrestlemania VII] Ted DiBiase vs Virgil
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
Damn this was great to. WM 7 may be honestly be one of the best overall. I always groaned at the work over Pipers leg because it looked so vicious. Even though it didn't lead to much of anything Sherri's debut with Dibiase was really well done and worked. -
[1991-03-24-WWF-Wrestlemania VII] Randy Savage vs Ultimate Warrior
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
Well here we are, my favorite match of all time. A match that transformed a pretty big wrestling fan into a lifelong one. This is the one match that is the toughest for me to view objectively but I think I did my best here and it is still absolutely wonderful and chill inducing. I had forgotten how desperate everything felt in this match. Sherri was magnificent and really added to the magnitude and pace of the match. Warrior is the worst of the main components of this match but I think I liked him better this time than on last watch and he does really sell him looking up to the heavens well. Savage gives the performance of a lifetime here and its inspiring to watch especially to me knowing the actual backstage stuff involving him and Elizabeth. My MOTY and I honestly can't see anything topping it. -
[1991-03-24-WWF-Wrestlemania VII] Rick Martel vs Jake Roberts (Blindfold)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
This is the first year that in addition to ranking each match, I am assigning star ratings. This has been the hardest one so far because from an execution standpoint it is really high, but from an actual workrate standpoint, obviously it is lower. I do have a conviction to make it my #100 match of the year though for the amazing payoff it provides for the feud as a whole.- 13 replies

[1991-03-24-WWF-Wrestlemania VII] Hart Foundation vs Nasty Boys
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
I have been amazed at how underdogish they have treated the Nasties. The finish of this match was really good tag stuff and it actually feels kind of weird to see the Harts together in 1991. Celebration is heel stooging at its best. -
[1991-03-24-WWF-Wrestlemania VII] The Rockers vs Haku & Barbarian
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
A couple of sloppy moments but this cold be the prototype for a PPV opener, as it is energetic and both teams look strong. I loved the powerslam spot by the Barbarian on Marty. Duggan wasn't half bad on commentary to. -
[1991-03-24-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Interview: Hulk Hogan
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
Well it took me longer than everyone else in here as I had enjoyed the build up but Hogan evoking God being appalled at Slaughter burning Hogan's shirt was a little more along with the Hulkamania wall in heaven being compared to military deaths was way out of bounds.- 7 replies

Short squash and Rogers did a good job making Ron look good but I am sad that this is what he is relegated to. The Doom brawl seemed pretty hot to me and they used it to sign off the show so at least on this show, they did a good job making it a pretty big deal.

[1991-03-23-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler & Steve Keirn
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
Skinner was a huge waste of potential as I have enjoyed everything with Kiern so far. The distance thing was key here to make this not look ridiculous. -
Decent promo by Fargo and the way he says babycakes. He certainly gets more respect than most legends of wrestling that I accustomed to getting in a promotion.

[1991-03-23-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Texas Boys / Tennessee vs Texas
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1991
I like the gloating Texas duo but man that footage did look like I was on an acid trip.
