  1. I always love reading these Pete. Good luck as you dive into 1992.
  2. Thats a real head scratcher since it seemed like the most heated angle heading to starrcade.
  3. That is weird though that they had hints of Dillan trying to persuade Barry to join him before this. I wonder what the long game would have been for this angle if they did decide randomnly that the night in Jacksonville was the night it was going to happen.
  4. That is the biggest detriment for me is the no selling and the interference that you reference above. I think the style is very condusive to burnout for my wrestling watching because there seems to be a lack of variety in the type of matches you are seeing. They do have some power guys and speed guys but they all seem to wrestle the fast break-neck speed. I look at something like how Duggan vs. Vader and Avalanche vs. Sting from Starrcade 94 was structured and find it unlikely that a Dragon Gate card would ever duplicate this premise. I don't know if their latest anniversary show is available yet but I do know big Dragon Gate fans were gushing over it so I say that could be a good litmus test for you to see if the style is your thing.
  5. You take that back!!!! In all seriousness, when Dragon Gate does a good full broke spotfest type match leaving the interference at the door, it can be very entertaining. I struggle to get into their singles matches due to the inconsistency their style dictates in regards to selling but there is definitely a lot of wrestling moves and fast paced offense if that is your thing. If you like the style, I would recommend seeking out Alan4L or our very own Dave Musgrave for any recommendations and also you can search the death valley driver board using the key word Dragon Gate and a mysterious poster named Col. Da Bears and get some recommendations to.
  6. Really want to see the other one if this was the lesser of the two becuase I thought the one we did see was a fun as hell underdog vs. big heel match.
  7. Dammit blanked on Paul E, I knew I was forgetting someone when we were discussing it. He is for me at least in stiff competition with Hart around this time.
  8. There is something so bizarre with hearing TOny call an Owen match. He looks ok here but doesn't get a chance to do a whole lot besides a nice kip up. Him and Morton as a team is a cool sight to see.
  9. Two great matches in 1991 for these two guys and I think I liked this one slightly more than the january match because what it lacked minimally in violence it made up for in some sick arm work by Kawada and leg work by Taue. I also thought the finish was done real well and made Taue look really strong coming out.
  10. I thought this was a really good fiery junior match. Kobashi has had some solid performances so far in singles matches in 1991 in some pretty distinctive matches. One thing I do disagree on is the senitment that this would be remembered as a classic if it happened on a Clash or SNME. Maybe it if was two real loverboys like Shawn'/Bret but I don't think this match is near as good as Tito/Perfect and Austin/Steamboat from the Clash and those two matches are more, "oh yeah that match was good" instead of the usual contenders when talking about great matches from around that era.
  11. Why did you have to point out JDW that they really should have had a showcase match against each other on at least a Clash. Is Flair's entrance music the one remain from the Spratan suggestions? I will rank this over the 90 match and think it's one of the best matches of the year. Incredibly violent and sold as a grudge match by Ross. I liked how Flair tried to ground control Pillman so his temper wouldn't flair up throughout the match. Flair's promo work has been solid in 91 but he has yet to have as good a performance that compares to some of his greater years. He is able to acomplish that here and this is one of the best short term feuds of Flair's career.
  12. I'm really interested where this is heading because the Horseman had a real triumph in their Wargames victory and now seem to be ripping at the seams. Good promo but it feels like we are reading a book with missing pages.
  13. 1 minute Flair highlights promo for the WGN crowd. Decent hype for an upcoming match.
  14. I agree with Pete that the only thing slightly off was the Chef boyardee line but man when Gilbert gets riled up, he has one of the most distinctive presences in all of wrestling. He has the ability to make you stop what you are doing and pay full attention to him getting emotionaly invested into what he is saying.
  15. USWA had been quiet the past three weeks but this episode is loaded as well get the culmination of Gilbert's plight for the past few months. Really good stuff using footage as a narrative.
  16. Man this looked like a war. I don't know what camera the USWA used to make this so weird but the action was insanely heated and Embry just waylayed Lawler with 10 chair shots while Tom had the belt wrapped around his throat. This would be the match I would want to see in full of all the USWA arena clips I have seen from 1990, 1991, and 1994.
  17. I'm glad Pritchard has stopped with the annoying Piper impersonation and his promo work has improved dramatically. The arena clips looked absolutely amazing.
  18. I like the feud but see why it can be conflicting watching it now and deciding who to cheer for given Dundee is embarassing his son in public.
  19. I must sympathize with IRS when it comes to business expenses
  20. This still creeps me out. WWF had quite the numerous memorable angles in 1991 and this is one of the most memorable.
  21. Man what a great match and series. they really combine athletic aspects of wrestling with the southern style and mix in big shots. The finish was a repeat but worked for me here and I cant complain if there is more stuff down the line from these two guys.
  22. Real disappointing. This felt as by the numbers as these guys could do for this amount of time and all the MEMPHIS elements felt hashed out and inorganic.
  23. 1. Steamboat - I can't deny the quality of these matches 2. Garvin - As mentioned on latest podcast, I think Garvin's demeanor and style match up the best with the flamboyance of Flair 3. Luger - Great matches that spanned multiple years Honorable Mention: Sting, Funk, Savage, Kerry Von Erich, Jumbo, Dusty, Ricky Morton
  24. I liked this for what it was, a straight beatdown from Satanico with Octagon getting a quick flash of offense in the second fall to win the match. I thought it was effective and actually thought Octagon was ok in what he did in this match and sold well for Satanico.
  25. I really liked this angle and the use of the theory that if I cant have the belt, no one can. Nikita really bent that thing to shreds.
