"Macho Madness: The Randy Savage Ultimate Collection"
JMFabianoRPL replied to stunning_grover's topic in Megathread archive
And here is everyone's favorite wet blanket (sorry this isn't in the thread about his book): Finally, according to the latest Figure Four Weekly, WWE is announcing a Randy Savage DVD for the summer. The key is that there’s not going to be a documentary (so that no one can say nice things about him) and it’s just going to be matches and angles. Because that way Vince can make money off his name without having to acknowledge him, apparently. However, since all I care about is the matches and angles, WOO HOO! Yes he appreciates the matches and angles, but other than that come on, be a little grateful instead of trying to spin it so we can still insult the WWE. As I said, on the other hand, they can't say MEAN things either...so no Self-Destruction, Part 2! Also... think about it: if it was as simple as throwing matches out there and not saying anything about who was in them, there'd be more Savage on the previous releases. Something doesn't add up with that theory. Come to think of it, why did they deal with Macho with complete silence before, yet they decided to speak out against Warrior? -
I tried two Best Buys in the area (one had it for $19.99)...both of them...COMPLETELY SOLD OUT. I have a feeling this will be one of the biggest WWE releases yet.
-
So...complete matches? About your notes...I heard mention of a tag team set (when the '90s Stars one was first announced), maybe Rockers/Busters I will be there? See my earlier post, re: my opinion about the 2006 stuff.

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad

Being disenchanted with the way current wrestling has gone myself, in all fairness I can understand this one. -

WHAT Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's not true, though it's possible that it was referred to by name in print much more than it was on TV. I concur, re: seeing it a lot more in WWF Magazine. I think there's many more examples too, in fact. (the one I keep remembering is Repo Man's finisher being called the "Crowbar" there but not on TV) -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrestling_Obs...wsletter_awards Very interesting read, but I have to wonder where Meltzer came up with some of the descriptions he uses. Aside from the one in the topic description, he calls Shockmaster a "spaceman" (yes probably the original intent, but after the Great Fall of Ottman, not so much), "New" Goldust (1997...is this the family man GD or TAFKAG?) is a "rundown movie star critic" (again the original intent, but I didn't know him for acting like Roger Ebert or anything...and I am surprised Meltzer didn't call Black Reign a "schizophrenic rundown movie star critic"), and Rock was a "jock comedian" (Okaaaaaaaay...). Also, what was so distasteful about Bob Backlund being WWF champion in 1982? And the 1992 "Global Championship Wrestling" that was worst promotion. Did he mean the GWF?

Not as many times as Austin vs. Hart or HBK vs. Mankind (remember when Mick said that was the best match NO ONE remembered?) has!!! But yes, I'd like more Blondes, more WCW Austin, stat. Is Austin just still bitter over his time there and doesn't want his stuff from WCW seen? Or...I wonder if it's because of the issues with WCW materials with Jesse commentary (and he was there for most if not all the Blondes' existence), as for some reason it seems to be a bigger issue than that from the WWF. I think the Blondes vs. Arn/Flair is on something though. As for this set, it looks like one of the first WWE sets in a while that I am really enthusiastic about IN GENERAL, foibles and all. Some notes (and MORE theories): - Did Steph admit that the baby wasn't Savage's? Cause he gets some good match time here. PLUS! - No Demolition = due to Bill Eadie + burnt bridge? /I have a theory about the title change not being there, though, as they have the Harts vs. Bulldogs 2/3 where the title DIDN'T change hands cause Bulldogs won one fall by DQ. Which happened with the Busters too, except they did get the titles. - re: Busters vs. Rockers 2/3...well it has never been released on VHS or DVD, and it has the angle. Other than that, I don't know why? /Maybe another Horsemen or HBK (like he needs another) set? A tag set? // The cynic/conspiracy theorist in me was, however, tempting me with thoughts that they picked one where Tully and AA didn't look good as punishment for the Flair leaving the company thing. ///I know, probably not. - The skits I accept cause that was part of the SNME element. Oddly, I just saw the one with the safari a few weeks back. - Even 2005+ stuff I accept, hey, it's what the younger audience will buy and if it gets them to see the older matches too, then even better. I just won't watch it. (Small sidenote: I was afraid of it causing That Bitching all over again due to them not using some obscure Benoit match from the new SNME's, but so far, not so much, thank goodness. Some of us are over it already, thank you very much...but that's not here nor there) Obviously they couldn't include EVERYTHING but this is a pretty good overview either way you slice it. Hope it is all it can be indeed.

TAFKAG did lead to at least one good thing: when he did the impersonator gimmick for a while (most memorable one was him as Dusty Rhodes, natch)

The Fernandez bit (about Lawler)...is it a part of a larger article/post? If so, where may I find it? -
Reading some talkback about TNA and how they always mention the WWE, etc. etc. And it got me to thinking...why was it OK for Vintage ECW to make WWF and WCW their heels too (heck, they used the fact that some of their guys were jumping to make them better heels) and to use misused Big Two people. But when TNA does it, they're just big dopes? (I am not necessarily defending TNA, I can see the whole pushing EVERYONE from WWE thing, there needs to be a balance there. On the other hand, there's WWE prejudice against anyone who came from anywhere else)

FYI...Ross Shafer of said "Late Show" would go on to succeed Gene Rayburn as the "Match Game" host in 1990. If it's the same RS I am thinking of.

Didn't an All In The Family episode have an exchange where Meathead tells Archie that wrestling is fake, they know who's going to win...and then Archie says, "They know, but I don't!" -
Just read this in a review on 411 for the Crockett Cup: This is the debut of the third incarnation of the Midnight Express as Stan Lane replaces Dennis Condrey who left without explanation. Lane had just had a falling out with his regular tag partner in the Fabulous Ones, Steve Keirn (Skinner to all you WWF fans) and needed something to do. Cornette already had a replacement for Condrey lined up named – Tim Horner. They even broke up the Lightning Express to make it happen, which is why you see Armstrong and Horner wrestling with different partners. Anyway, as the story goes, Horner was practically trying on the Midnight Express threads when Lane called JCP and asked if they had anything for him. Corny jumped at the chance and dumped Horner in favor of Lane. The rest is history. So Horner went from possibly being a member of one of the most over tag teams in history and a perennial tag title contender to jobbing in the opening round. Horner and Armstrong would reform and jump to the Universal Wrestling Federation and then become jobbers once JCP gobbled up that territory too. Well this is the first I ever heard of this. Any validity?

Wow...up to a tape trade/whatever? Also wonder how I go about getting some of the DVDVR-type comps for certain decades/regions?

WWE quietly moves the release of the WCCW DVD
JMFabianoRPL replied to sek69's topic in Pro Wrestling
You know, while it's cute to make fun of the WWE's mainstay "experts," just because someone wasn't actually there, does it really give them no right to talk about it? Who's to say HHH and JR never watched WCCW and/or studied its past? In a way, saying they shouldn't be allowed to speak kind of supports the "you aren't in the business" arguments against the IWC's opinions. Also, Lombardi is an odd choice, I agree, but Trips and JR ARE old school fans...so if they were on the documentary, it wouldn't be THAT jarring. I still haven't gottwn T&T, I don't know. I am perfectly happy with owning just Heroes, but I hear that T&T wasn't as bad as the Tribute to the Freebirds theme that was feared in this thread. If anything, the WWE DVD department is the one arm of the whole company that still deserves a benefit of a doubt once in a while. -
I can't get enough of these classic WONs and newsletters. Keep it up everyone!
